Hey There,

one thing that I think would make this roleplay a lot more appealing (at least to me), would be to develop the prologue a bit more, perhaps even turn it into a narrative - really give a tone and setting to the story from the off. I'd also advise that, throughout the sign-up process and the actual process, you keep everybody talking and active. People are much more likely to partake in an active roleplay. Try and get people to discuss their nations histories, working off from a much better prologue (like I've advised), so that you can start getting the ball rolling immediately without making people wait for the in-character thread.

That's all I can really think of. There are probably loads more things my counter-parts could advise.

If you need any more help, with anything at all, let me know. :)

All the best,

Questers wrote:Many people say the point of NS is to write a story. No, that isn't true. NS is basically a game about persuading people you're right. You do that through writing a story. There are some ways to do this. Either you can write impressive purple prose that other people can't. Or you could write a series of very detailed technical specifications (but you must be careful not to get on the wrong side of existing 'technical experts.') In minor ways you can draw impressive pictures, or having many, active storefronts. In any event once you have convinced a plurality of the population you are some kind of IC specialist or superpower in the field, by producing some kind of output that majority of players can't produce, then you can get away with a great many things that minor nations can not.

I just wanted to touch on this (better late than never eh?). This might be true to a certain extent for war RPs and the like. But you can RP so, so much more in your nation than just fleets and armies, and a lot of players don't seem to consider the possibilities for making real, interesting stories that don't involve a ton of people shooting at each other. For example, a character RP where a guy from nation X falls in love with a girl from nation Y. How does one "win" or even "be right" in a game like that? At that level there's very little that's technical or needing research. It's down to raw emotion, dialogue and how well you can RP a character convincingly. That's why, in general, I vastly prefer character RPs, because unless the characters are in direct competition with each other you can't point to anything and say "There, I win!" You're reliant on your own writing abilities and the other player(s) to make it good, rather than some kind of obscure technical knowledge.

For me, that's where the life of NS RP is.

Yeah, that's clearly true. But we all know who he's referring to. There are nations for whom it is unacceptable to lose a fight and they get away with it because of their status in NationStates while smaller, newer nations get called out on it. And if a multitude of these nations were to be concentrated in one region, well... That would just be convenient, wouldn't it?

Of course. But I take issue with the kind of statement that says that telling a story on NS has to be done through some kind of underhanded coercion to win an argument. That's not the NS that I personally know.

You're right, I don't approach writing, even war RP's in that way. I'm very much of a mind with He Who I Shan't Name in that regard. But I'm not entirely sure that that's what Questers was saying anyway. Saying that it's about persuasion isn't really the same as writing competitively, I think. Because it's kind of true, in the sense that no matter what you're writing, you're trying to persuade people OOC that your nation's actions are correct and/or the best IC. I guess. I just don't think that Questers' approach necessarily precludes writing for the sake of writing, which I am passionate about.

I attribute this to old NS players getting college degrees.

Which is kind of funny in a way.
Questers wrote:Yes. It's pretty dumb, frankly. However, things are improving/things have improved. General NS reputation is shifting towards preferring people who are very competent/knowledgeable in a particular field, rather than people who can browbeat everyone into believing they're right.
This is how Hitler annexed Czechoslovakia, he intimidated President Hácha. So I wouldn't call it completely unreasonable.

It's kind of true. Except when it's not. I mean, I've fucked up in RP before on purpose (no, it was intentional, really!) for plot purposes or just because I thought it would be more interesting. I don't necessarily always try to do the best or "most right" things in-game. I do what I find interesting and believable and engaging -or at least I try to.

If someone is banned, and someone in an RP they're in invades the banned person's nation and RPs taking it over whilst they are away, and refuses to undo the invasion when said person returns, that's considered godmodding, correct?

Under no circumstances can a nation invade another without proper consent of the other nation. Any such actions can be ignored, meaning the invading nation has not done harm to your nation. If they are persistent, then put them on the ignore list.

And is the other nation also required to give back land in the instance of a complete deletion? I'm not trying to be picky here, I'm just getting at the subtleties. If so, I will be happy to comply.
Edit: Benomia did inform me through his/her side/puppet/(whatever you want to call it) nation Bezombia that he/she would be banned for a week, than would return with the other nation, Bezombia. Just trying to condense things into one post.

This is a thread to ask about RP questions, not about why a person was banned for something. If you wish to talk about such, take it to TG so we can avoid unnecessary cluttering of the thread. ^.^

Fair enough. Next time, if you think there's a rules violation, I advise you to report it to Moderation here: viewforum.php?f=16 Also, must you really sign each of your posts with your name which is clearly displayed next to your flag? It's a little... trite.
