I also need help on picking allies. I usually pick ones who end up leeching my resources and people to the point where the uranium mines are depleted completely cause somebody wanted to force "Friendship" on another country, and when I make alliances myself, I end up being a puppet until I get tossed out like trash, and I end up begging for more money.

I can see the hidden, subtle reference there Wellboneland. Cut it off please (you've done this at least three times now); this is not the place to softly insult other roleplayers, whether they be roleplaying non-humans or not. Post that somewhere else, thank you.

Then just don't join any mainstream NS / II alliances, and instead create your own group of alliance based from those that you roleplay amicably and cordially with. It's a simple world is it not..? ;)

Funny thing is I was referring to Hathradic States, not anyone in CoPS.
And yet, I cant get any support for my own alliance.

OOC means out-of-character. This means you are speaking as a person in real-life, the person behind the nation.

IC means in-character. This means you are speaking as a member or leader of your nation.

Hello (again),

I'm new at this and I'm not sure where to start. My nation's backstory (linky!) sets it up as having space travel, but I try to keep it as realistic as I can. The problem is that a lot of the other FT RPs I've seen really go FP - force fields, wormholes, etc., while I try to keep to things that -for want of a better phrase- make sense and have explanations behind them. This means that I'm too relatively underpowered to participate in FT RPs, but too overpowered to participate in even PMT RPs (since, you know, space travel). So I'm not sure where I can fit in here.

It seems like you would fit in with those FT RPers who prefer Hard Science FT rather than SciFi based FT. If you ask aorund a bit, I'm sure you can find those RPers who prefer that. :)

would railguns be considered PMT if IRL we've already made a production model and they are expected to be on US Ships by 2015

Huh...

I've always considered railguns early PMT weapons. Though this is the first time I heard of a production model already in place.

From my experience, the vast majority of people would consider railguns PMT. Though it depends on the group, few people give much credence to what is 'in production' versus what is generally considered PMT.

ok, I kind of exaggerated the 2015 part, but we do have a production prototype:

and it's been stated that is is to be put on the DDG-1000

It's not a production prototype. It's a test-bed. There's a difference.

A production prototype is a finished model, where the only thing separating it from entering full production is that the schematics have not yet been sent to the factory to have the thing fabricated, or there is some other logistical delay. At that stage, there are no design changes, no technological breakthroughs necessary, nothing stopping the unit from entering full production other than logistical concerns (tooling up factories, making funding available, etc.)

A test-bed is something that is not a finished model, because there are still technological hurdles to overcome. For example, railguns have been test-fired since the 1980s. They have required extremely bulky capacitors in order to store the power for each shot, and they are unable to fire successive shots without overheating the barrel and melting the weapon. These hurdles have not been overcome to date, and in fact (using your example of the Zumwalt-class destroyer), have proven so challenging that the proposed railgun for the Zumwalt has been scrapped.

So while it is theoretically possible to have a railgun in MT, you would need to devote an incredible amount of space for power-generating and storage systems, and you would have to cope with weapons that will completely fail within a half-dozen shots. Conventional guns will get you much more bang for your buck (pun intended), and likely will do so into the early PMT era.

That being said, if you are absolutely determined to use something other than a plain conventional gun, you might do well to look into electro-thermal chemical (ETC) guns.

Any player can ignore anything another player does; it's part of freeform RP. This is usually done to players who consistently godmod and wank, or are simply not fun to RP with. It has nothing to do with whether or not the topic is closed or not. However, it's best to not excessively ignore players, as that can give you a bad reputation on the forums.

He has the right to ignore your annexation if that is what he desires, albeit ignoring certain IC interaction is not always so simple.
