How about wars? How do I "fight" them?

Wars are entirely writing-based, and you don't necessarily gain anything that the game will automatically record. Try to also be sensible with warfare, and operate within the constraints of your tech level. Some people can and do run world-spanning empires, but I wouldn't advise flexing those sorts of high-influence powers if you're just starting off, since it frequently rubs people the wrong way.

You can put some information on some political parties and candidates. Over time you can present successive events that happen later. If you want you can present an open poll for players to vote or the leaders to endorse so it seems more interactive or you can do it yourself and maybe allow any dialogue or comments from other nations/leaders as the election happens or finish.

I'm not sure this is the right place to ask, considering there are many Chinas, including myself, and Indias in the NS omniverse and they might not even have contact eith each other.

It's not the appropriate place to ask such a question at all, unless this is in reference to, as Amenria pointed out, one of the many NS iterations of China and/or India, and a specific (please link) N&I thread. If it's about the RL China-India clashes, it would belong in the NSG forum. Be forewarned and prepared to follow the rules there, as well. There may already be a thread for that topic, in which case, they don't need another, and there is more expected of an OP than just 'What do you think of this sucky situation?'

In short, good RP is made in equal parts of how much you have fun with collaborative writing, and what you yourself, and what you think others, would like to read, (or watch - assuming it was a hypothetical script to a movie or series). Cooperation, flexibility, and a good base canon for your characters would make you an ideal RP participant. There are other things that others might suggest, but those will get you well on your way.

In depth, a lot more info is needed on who or what you are trying to write about in order to point you to the best mentors who work within certain niches.

In general, I would think about all of you focusing on developing your nations further, some major characters for your nations, and settings. The turn taking of one line posts - 'I captured this nation', 'I bombed that', 'my nation hates yours', etc. is not RP, that's just verbal RISK™ board gaming. You guys will need to move on from that if you want to appeal to the greater NS RP community and actually get to putting out parts of a story.

Yeah, it's bad as heck. At least I know what an RP should look like, they don't. I have started setting up a thread and am trying to reach an agreement with the rest of them on what they want the starting scenario, time, etc., to be.

For me personally, it's my immense imagination. Though I think part of it is innate, you can explore it further with consuming media of the appropriate genre you're going for. Comic books, videogames, and movies all work for me, as I've drawn lots of inspiration from DC, the Yakuza franchise, and MTG. Do some worldbuilding, then take a moment to think about what problems might arise from your nation or universe in general. What villains would appear? How could they be defeated? How does technology, magic, and what have you affect the lives of your people?

Bottom line is, go crazy with your imagination. Let it run wild. God willing you'll be attracting top tier players like Shwe or Val before you know it.

I would certainly advise finding a roleplay opportunity and getting a feel for the community writing here over just jumping straight in, aye. That said, if you want FT roleplayers, Sunset is both a roleplay mentor here and a FT civ, and I'm sure that he'll be happy to help a new person out with a thread of some variety. As for me, I am perhaps a little too bizarre, compared to other roleplayers, for a new person.

Not to detract from all the great advice already extended, but I did want to make a comment on what makes good RP, what makes a good RP participant, and whether you truly suck at RPing.

I'll preface this comment by admitting that I, too, was a "bad" RPer. Of course, that implies that now I am a "good" RPer and I suspect that whether I am "good" or "bad" really depends on who you ask and against what criteria you judge me. Anyway, the point is that my RP style used to be very different, what I would now consider "bad." I wasn't the only one, I recently ran across an old RP from the Jolt era between Automagfreek, myself, and others and in general the writing was "poor" and I think there was more arguing than actual fiction. I also remember thinking pretty highly of myself back then, lol.

The point is that we all go through an evolutionary process in our abilities and style. And whether we think we suck or not doesn't really reflect the truth because the criteria against which we judge ourselves also evolve.

Again, this isn't to invalidate any other advice or to really make a recommendation on what you should do, it's an aside. Your #1 objective should be to have fun. If you're having fun, the rest will come with time and experience.

Separately, looking to join an RP versus creating your own has complexities of its own. Let's say you join a PMT region — shameless plug: Greater Dienstad —, you might find joining an RP difficult because there's already a complex canon that the region has been developing over X months/years that is related to a geopolitical and historical background. And you'll have to find that place in that world to really be able to figure out where you fit. That can be a very frustrating process, especially as the canon that you have to assimilate becomes more complicated.

Starting your own RPs around your own country and canon makes the world you initially have to operate in a lot smaller and it forces the people RPing with you to fit their canon with yours rather than the other way around.

I would certainly find a region, but I would think of a possible opening RP that you OP that you can use to attract other players in that region to interact with you.

From there, as you learn more and you start to get a handle on what's going on, it'll be easier to get involved in a region on a wider scale.
