Can I RP as my pre-state? AKA I make a NS just for it to collapse into this NS via RP here. I want to expand on the history of it, but having to tell everyone that "the rebels will win no matter what, lol" seems pretty cheap to me for anyone that wants to RP on the side of the government

Yes, of course you can roleplay as your pre-state. A lot of RPs done on Nationstates involve, not just your nation as it is today (whatever time period you chose today to be), but also your history. If you are going with an RP that anyone can join, then I recommend to add in a spoiler at the beginning, telling everyone that this is a historical roleplay about X nation transitioning into Y nation. Just so that everyone is aware what the outcome of the RP is going to be.

For most people, the fun of the roleplay, is not discovering the conclusion, but discovering how the conclusion came about. The whole "journey over destination" thing. So, enjoy your historical roleplay and good luck!

So, your want to have a war RP, eh? Then you have come to the right place! First off, International Incidents is filled with dozens of active war roleplays, many of which allow newcomers to join in. if you want to try out those, I recommend telegramming the OP (original poster) to ask if you can join.

Now, for creating your own modern war RP with another nation. the easiest way to go about doing this is to simply ask. Most people on NS are quite friendly, so don't be scared to just send them a telegram and ask them if they want to join in a war RP with you. Sometimes this is expedited by joining an active roleplay region where you can have a bunch of people to both rp with you and make some fun online friends!

I think the typical way is to use this software to edit images you download off of google.

There're also free fancy text-generators and the like on the internet if you look around. Just remember to download them and stick them on a dedicated image host like imgur.

If you're just looking for fonts, dafont.com has a huge stock which you can use in Paint.net or other editors which will allow you to stick effects over the text.

This is mainly because I'm really not that knowledgeable of the tech, tactics or terminology. I was wondering if anyone happened to have any resources that I could look at that could be of some use?

A well-ordered war comes from knowing your nation, and knowing the nature of war. Rather than trying to learn some explicit rules, the best structure you can give to your RP is to know what is realistic for your country, and to understand what your country is capable of. If both you and your fellow players have this understanding, the war will play out naturally, as everyone involved makes the most of their resources, and looks for the opportunities for success.

EDIT: In other words, if all the players can agree on how many resources each of them has, there will be little need for 'rules' aside from the basic etiquette which is intrinsic to the game - only controlling your own characters, for example.

I second Thebes' comments.

Also, don't think of a war that will impact the game. The game is huge. Most of us aren't even aware of 90% of the game being played.

The war should impact your canon and the canon of those you are RPing with. I don't even think you should focus on influencing. You should focus on how to make the RP fun and constructive. If you can do that, the RP will influence canon organically.

So, I'm starting to feel like I've written myself into a corner and generally not planned out my worldbuilding enough before jumping into RP and getting into a rut. Should I plan out a new nation, retcon some things, reboot in general, something else...?
