Kensington, Britannia

It was early in the morning when small children were waking up and their parents getting ready for work. Everything was calm, peaceful, and safe. That only lasted seconds. Soon three explosions ripped apart several buildings. Two more made large holes in the street. Another explosion destroied the front half of a store. Soon several men came out of another building with guns and began to run across the street. "Move, we have 2 minutes before the cops get here." One of the men said as he pointed at the capitol building. "You know the objectives so complete them." The man said as several more people met them. "I thought that we wernt doing this untill June." A woman said. "Ethan want's this to be over as soon as possible. If Nitom is to take it's revenge it will need to weaken Britannia as much as possible." He continued as he ran for the front gates. He then fired several shots at the guards there. "Move, we can't let them escape." The man said as he tossed a grenade at the guards. The grenade then exploded. "Jimmy, take down the gate." He said as another man came over with a small explosive package and hit the detonator. The gates then went down. "Move, move!" The first man yelled as he came out of the cover of the large brick wall firing several shots as the guards. "Hanks down!" Jimmy yelled to the first man pointing at the man on the ground. "Check him!" The man yelled as he shot at the guards. "He's dead." A woman said as she checked him. "Come on, lets go." The man said as he continued firing. The group of people made it inside after a minute opf fighting. "Squad one, come with me. Squad two stay here and make sure noone makes it in or out." The man said as he made his way up the stairs. Soon several police officers made their way into the scene of the explosions. They then began to move for thecapitol building. "Take 'em out." Another woman said as she looked outside. Soon a hail of bullets cut down the officers making their way to the building. Meanwhile, upstairs, the group continued to move for Edmund Gallagher's room. "We don't leave untill we complete our objectives." The man said as he shot at a few workers trying to make their way out. "No survivors, we don't need anyone to sneak up on us." He said as he continued for the room. "Get ready to clear." He said as jimmy planted a explosive charge on the door. "Watch your fire, we don't want to kill him without explaining all of this." He said with a smile. Soon the explsive detonated and the doors went down. After a few seconds the room was cleared. Three guards had be killed and the man was on his bed looking in horror of what had just happened. "Edmund Gallagher, we have been sent here to kill you for sending our nation into a fight against Gibet and her allies alone without aid. Nitom pleaded for your support and millions were killed because you declined our resquest that could have resulted in a wonderful relationship between our nations. For that you shall die." The man said pulling out his M-9. He then pulled the triger and left the room. "It's time to leave." He said as he walked out.

Two hours later
Elis Island, Nitom

Soon several ships began to set sail as Nitom prepares for war. The ships include several fresh from their part in the first and second Nitomian-Gibetian wars, The NNS Rumek, The NNS New Hope, The NNS Rising Faith, The NNS Shining Glory, and The NNS Kruvok named after Kegan Kruvok the main general of the Nitomian armed forces. OOC: Not really. Adding in the logistics he'll need to support them, it'll be a massive deployment, but it's doable for a nation of almost 6 billion.

Obviously I'll be invoking my defense agreement with Reformed Britannia once the actual invasion becomes known ICly.

Yeah I think I'll stay out of this one to be honest, I prefer smaller scale wars because the huge deployments normally result in accusations of godmoding/wanking

The Fast Response Unit, the elite counter-terrorism and special operations unit of the Britannian Metropolitan Police, was the first force to arrive on the scene of the attacks. Wielding specialised equipment such as the RA-77 Boomslang PDW and more notably the R2 series of weapons, the FRU was a formidable force indeed, having partaken in numerous counter-terrorism operations during Britannia's past. It was this history of excellence in combating threats to Britannian domestic security that allowed the FRU to arrive at the scene of this latest attack with incredible speed, with three armoured cars arriving in front of the building in question and the heavily armed FRU troopers pouring out of the vehicles, armed to the teeth with the latest advanced weaponry.

The FRU made a point of having marksmen armed with the R2 Scout rifle cover every possible avenue of approach-and, more importantly at this point, retreat-from the Fairbanks Building, where some members of the Britannian government were lodged. The Fairbanks Building was the old capitol building of Britannia, though it had been replaced since then and had become more of a ceremonial location than anything.

Regardless, it was now under attack from an unknown foe-something which irked Captain Liam O'Brien. The Britannian Empire had recently been disbanded-and now, a group of yokels had seen fit to shoot up a Britannian cultural icon. "I'll be damned if I don't get to shoot one of the bastards," O'Brien muttered sardonically, clearing his throat before opening up a radio channel.
"Marksmen in position?" There was a brief pause over the line as the final marksman and his spotter took up a position to the west of the besieged building.
"Aye, sir. Whoever they are, they're not getting out of that building unless it's with their hands high in the air."
"First class job, gentlemen. Assault teams on me. I want every fucking side closet of this bloody building cleared before six o'clock. Shoot to wound if you catch them with their backs turned or the like, but you're ordered to take the bastards down permanently if necessary. Gas masks on, and move out."

As silent as a group of heavily armed and armoured paramilitary troops could be, the FRU troopers made their way up to the front doors of the building. Upon entry, the teams would fan out through the building, using fibre optic cables to check rooms for the terrorists before they actually breached-and whether or not any were located by this process, a flashbang would be tossed into the room in order to incapacitate those inside, as the FRU wasn't going to take any chances on enemies who might be hiding in closets or such.

The marksmen on the rooftops surrounding the building kept their eyes on the windows. The advanced electronic scope in the R2 Scout rifle allowed it to recognise FOF infrared strobes on the helmets of FRU troopers, meaning that they could safely pick off enemy targets without the risk of hitting their own men. If one of the terrorists so much as poked their heads out to observe the FRU armoured cars below, the walls would be plastered with their grey matter in a split second.

However, the FRU troopers inside the building also sent a team down to the building's central ventilation system-where several canisters of a special incapacitating agent were opened and pumped through the building's ventilation system. The gas would be near impossible to detect-but the FRU troopers, all of whom were wearing gas masks specifically for this particular aspect of the operation, would not be affected. The effects of the gas were so potent that anyone who inhaled it would be knocked out within ten second for a period of hours, increasing the FRU's chances of catching the terrorists alive.

"Sir, Britannian FRU assulting our possitions." A man said looking quickly out the window to not alert the snipers that they would surly have outside. "Claymores on all the entrences. I also want C-4 on the first level if we have to retreat. Show 'em some fireworks." The man said walking upstairs. "I want defense position Alpha, Delta, 9-21." He said to one of the men. He then went to one of the rooms. "want all the hosteges in the second floor wired with C-4 and a deadman switch." He said throwing a civilian worker into the hallway. "Also, I want to be able to give them a message." He said as he walked the worker into the main room. After two minutes all the workers were in the main room in the second level. The man then got out two phones and put the number of his in the other one and threw it out the window then closed it.

Speaking for the nation of Peasley I cannot say how horrified we are pertaining toward your actions in Britannia. We endlessly condemn your action of state-sponsored terrorism and are appalled the such nations exist. While hopefully it was a severe lapse in judgement or perhaps, not state sponsored terrorism at all, we can only live up to our own moral code by supporting Greater Britannia in this conflict.

OOC: I will act as a mediator here. The nations of the Alliance of Grand Powers, while directly linked to NItom, DO NOT support offensive attacks against external nations unless they are absolutely necessary. The Alliance of Grand Powers will remain neutral in this conflict. Should the two warring nations wish to talk it out, they can propose peace talks which will be held in Alexiandra

The FRU marksmen immediately saw movement in the second floor window as the phone was tossed to the ground. A single FRU trooper boldly ran up to the device, hastily checked it for attached explosives or detonators, and then brought it to an FRU 'negotiator' who was waiting by one of the armoured cars. Part of FRU operating protocol was that mission leaders shouldn't communicate with tangos in hostage situations, mainly due to the fact that a cellphone rigged with a small amount of plastic explosive had once been picked up by a mission leader. The resulting explosion had completely deformed the right side of his face and left him blind. The FRU had enough experience under its belt as a unit to know not to take any chances with terrorists.

In the meantime, the revelation that the terrorists were seemingly concentrated on the second floor was spreading quickly through the FRU ranks, something that O'Brien knew would open up a whole new avenue of tactical possibilities. Evidently, the terrorists hadn't been knocked out by the gas yet-either it hadn't made its way up to the second floor yet or they were wearing masks, which in O'Brien's experience was unlikely. Regardless, O'Brien pulled his team out of the building, instead radioing on an encrypted channel back to the FRU headquarters for some 'special assistance'.

The assistance in question was a transport helicopter filled with additional FRU troopers who were on hand back at headquarters in case things really went south in a hurry. The car-borne FRU troopers took up positions around the building, while the helicopter began to head towards the Fairbanks Building. Several news helicopters had already arrived-the transport would take advantage of this by flying high up in the air, reducing its observability as it made its approach towards the building. Once it reached the building, it would set down a team of FRU troopers, who would then try and sweep the building clear of hostiles. But for now, it appeared the terrorists had some demands to make.

The negotiator, a man named Travers, hastily dialled the number that was on the screen, and waited for someone on the other end to pick up. The brilliant Kensington sunrise was just starting to crest the horizon in the distance, and O'Brien couldn't help but remember an old sailor's maxim-red sky at night, sailor's delight; red sky in the morning, sailors take warning.

It was going to be a very bloody day.

The man picked up the phone and awnsered it. "Do not enter, all the hostages have C-4 on them with a deadman switch in my hand. The second that you enter they all die. The first floor is currently flooded with gas. We want that out of the building," He said walkikng around. He then took several pictures and sent them to the man on the other side. "There is your proof, now, I want you and your men to back off, they would not make it past the front door." He continued as he took a look outside. "My final demand for the moment is that you give us a list of materials that will be put in a text message. If you do not comply we will execute one of the hosteges for everyone of the demands that are not met within 1 hour." He said before sending a text message with all the supplies he wanted.

The negotiator kept a neutral expression on his face as he listened to the terrorists' demands. They were of little consequence to him-among them was a seemingly senseless demand for stripped-down artillery and shells, as well as a 'level 6 security card' for the building-and the negotiator knew that they would not be accepted, as Britannia had a zero tolerance policy with regards to terrorism. The guns of the FRU would be the Britannian response to these ludicrous demands.

O'Brien walked over to the negotiator as his team finished pulling out of the building, nodding at him respectfully.
"What's the scoop?" The almost moronically casual utterance in such a dire situation was obviously intended to be humorous, reinforced by a devilish grin that O'Brien flashed the negotiator, whose tone remained serious. Covering the phone with one hand, he leaned in towards O'Brien.

"They know about the gas."
"What?" O'Brien's demeanour suddenly changed, his face contorted with confusion. "How the fuck did they-"
"I don't know," the negotiator cut in sharply, retaining his calm outer facade and showing O'Brien the pictures of the captives. "Fortunately enough, the Tangoes up there were kind enough to send us pictures of the hostages, and more importantly-"
"The room they're being held in," the FRU team leader grinned triumphantly, carefully analysing the picture. "Looks like the Palatial Foyer. They're on the second floor, alright. And they've smuggled C4 into the country." O'Brien turned away, shaking his head in disgust.
"Lovely. Just goddamned lovely." O'Brien snorted, turning back to the negotiator.

"When's the slick due to arrive?"
"Any minute now. They're bringing in the equipment you requested. If all goes well, we'll have those hostages out within a few minutes." The negotiator, almost as if he was expecting to see the helicopter arrive at that exact moment, turned his eyes skyward. O'Brien stalked off to cover behind an armoured car, where he could radio the helicopter without risk of being seen.
"Right. I'd best get to radioing them and informing them of these latest developments. Keep up the good work, MacIverson."
"You too, Captain. And thanks."

When he was in cover, O'Brien pulled off his helmet and balaclava, and wiped the sweat off his glistening brow. He immediately radioed the inbound FRU helicopter, informing them that there was indeed a hostage situation and that the hostages in question-as well as, presumably, the terrorists-were in the Palatial Foyer on the second floor.

A mere minute later, the FRU helicopter finally arrived, its rotors creating a series of dull whumps that were masked by the much louder noise of the news helicopters which flitted around the building. The helicopter settled ever so gently down on the roof, and the FRU squad on it dismounted, carrying with them a very strange device-something that would allow them to neutralise the Tangoes' advantage in this situation.

The device, in question, was an explosively pumped flux compression generator. Years of research and countless government pounds had been poured into creating a smaller, more manageable form of this device-and they had succeeded in creating a piece of equipment that could knock out power over a good sized distance.

Placing the device on the roof, the FRU troopers prepared to rappel down the side of the building. Positioning himself on the roof's ornate, Gothic-styled parapet alongside his squadmates, the team's leader-a dapper-looking lieutenant named Charlie Easton-motioned for them to begin rappelling down. As soon as the FRU troopers had begun to descend towards the windows, Easton pressed a button on a handheld device that was akin in function to a detonator. There was a loud, crashing noise as the compression generator destroyed itself, in the process creating an EMP that knocked power out over a block and a half.

Aside from the noise created by the device's activation, the only clue to what had occurred would be the sudden lack of artificial light in the building-something which, with the sun rising over Kensington, would probably not be noticed immediately. However, the device's EMP effect had one crucial advantage-it would disable any electronic equipment the terrorists had, namely, their detonators for the C4 plastic compound, as well as the dead man's switch that controlled said detonators.

The FRU troopers, unfazed by the noise on the roof above, quickly reached the second floor windows that let light into the Palatial Foyer. With a callous disregard for the elegant, antique windows in question, the FRU men smashed through them, with one member of the squad firing a specialised grenade launcher carrying shells filled with the exact same incapacitating agent that had been used downstairs. There was enough gas in one shell to shroud an entire room in the substance, and the trooper who was carrying it pumped off two rounds in rapid succession as he swung through the window, one aimed at either half of the room to ensure that both sides of the relatively large room were covered.

The rest of the FRU men fired their weapons at any terrorists who weren't keeling over from the gas and who were in the room; once those Tangoes were neutralised, the FRU squad would sweep into the adjacent rooms, making liberal use of flashbangs and fibre optic cables to both incapacitate and covertly observe enemy soldiers. One the hostages were safe, the squad's explosives expert would remove the detonators from the C4. The FRU was shooting to wound-they were using lower power rounds in their R2C carbines and had zipcuffs on their persons to secure neutralised enemy combatants-but Easton knew his men would go in for the kill-shot if necessary.

The rays of the rising sun striking the thousands of shards of crystalline glass as they hurtled through midair created an almost kaleidoscopic display of light inside the Palatial Foyer; Easton himself was pumped full of adrenaline, his finger on the trigger, ready for the fight of his life.

"FRU assulting our position!" The man yelled as he shot off several shots. "Plan B, cover me." He said as he fired several more shots before taking out a small device. It was a non-electronic deadman switch. Under his coat was enough C-4 to level the entire building. "Don't shoot or you level the whole building." He said showing them the device. "Stand down or everyone here dies." He continued as the went to the middle of the bound hostages. "Aproxxamatly 50 or so lives depend on your judgement." He said with a victorous smile. "Either way I win and we have our great nation has it's revenge." He said laughing. "You shoot I die and so does everyone else here. You don't shoot, you leave, everyone lives, and I get to report the job is complete myself and go on for further missions." He said smiling at the hostages.

Easton’s team hit the ground in a hurry, taking cover where they could and engaging the terrorists with their advanced, high-lethality weaponry. Easton and a soldier in his squad overturned a desk and took up a position behind it, taking turns firing staggered bursts at the Tangoes in order to at least keep them suppressed. Easton ducked behind cover, sliding a fresh clip of CL8-15L ammunition into the empty weapon. A resounding click reached his ears as the magazine slid firmly into place, and he quickly popped up over the edge of the desk, the adrenaline still pumping through his veins, just as a man who appeared to be the leader of the terrorists produced a detonator for the plastic explosives that were strapped to the now-unconscious hostages.

Easton, keeping his eyes on the man in front of the squad, quietly spoke to the squad grenadier, who had taken cover beside him.
“Load a bean bag round. Aim for the legs; take him on my mark.” The grenadier complied, loading a specially-designed incapacitating round into his launcher, before popping out of cover and aiming at the man alongside Easton and the rest of the squad.

Easton himself was a little tempted to say something ‘cool’ or ‘badass’ like “We don’t negotiate with terrorists” or something along those lines, but he knew that negotiation was key in these sorts of situations. He knew that the detonators must have been fried on the plastic explosives-and a mechanical detonation system for the plastic explosives would have to be activated manually by was of a grenade-like mechanism as opposed to a dead man’s switch. Easton, therefore, guessed that the man was bluffing when he said that fifty innocent lives hinged on the FRU team leader’s judgement-rather, Easton knew that unless the terrorists started shooting the hostages, the advantage was the FRU’s.

“On the contrary, the only lives at stake here are your own. You say that you’re willing to blow this whole building to pieces, but you haven’t done it yet even though we just busted in here and started shooting up the place. Why haven’t you done it? I can think of two reasons-number one, your detonators suddenly stopped working, or number two, you’re not all that enthusiastic about dying for your country.” Pausing, Easton patted a hand on the grenadier’s shoulder, telling him wordlessly to get ready.

“Now, all you have to do to get out of here alive is drop your weapons and raise your hands. Keep that in mind-“ as opposed to finishing his sentence, Easton patted the grenadier’s shoulder a second time, and he fired the flexible baton round towards the terrorist leader’s legs. The rest of the FRU troopers, accustomed to such events occurring in the midst of negotiations, immediately opened fire on any armed Tangoes within their field of view, pockmarking the antique walls of the building with bullet holes as the air was suddenly alive with the snap of high-powered rounds sailing through it.

Official Communique of The Alliance of Grand Powers

Image

To: All combatant nations involved in the Nitom-Reformed Britannia war
From: The government of The Alliance of Grand Powers

It has come to our attention that a member-state of The Alliance of Grand Powers, The Holy Empire of Nitom, has orchestrated a series of lethal attacks upon the nation of Reformed Britannia, with the stated intention of causing damage to both property and persons within the latter country. While The Alliance of Grand Powers is a military alliance, we do not sponsor, nor do we endorse, state terrorism. We, under the laws described in our constitution, will only provide military support to member nations which fall under attack by an external nation. In accordance with this law, the Senatorial Republic of Alexiandra, as Prime Minister of The Alliance of Grand Powers, officially declares that our Alliance will remain neutral towards all warring factions for the duration of this conflict. We express our condolences to the families of those killed or injured during the attacks, and wish the affected persons a speedy recovery and a long life.

Furthermore, The Alliance of Grand Powers is willing to act as a mediator for peaceful negotiations between Nitom and Reformed Britannia, in order to settle this dispute. Should diplomatic actions be pursued by both governments, they may contact The Senatorial Republic of Alexiandra in order to organise a conference. The conference would be hosted in the Alexiandran capital city of Minebrook, which has been an historic negotiating centre for millennia.

Signed by all 50 members of the Alexiandran senate.

'A distinction is made in private life between what a man thinks and says of himself and what he really is and does. In historical struggles one must make a still sharper distinction between the phrases and fantasies of the parties and their real organisation and real interests, between their conception of themselves and what they really are.'

"I am a proud soldier of my nation." He said seeing the man getting ready to take him out. "All hail Nitom!" He yelled before he was taken down. A large ring was heard as he hit the ground that signaled the 20 second detonation prep. "I told you I am a soldier for my country and I am ready to die." He continued. "You have doomed us, you, and the innocent people here." "You the soldiers of Britannia will pay in blood for what you have done." He said laughing as a beebing sound got louder and faster by the second.
"Good, better, best.
Never let it rest.
'Till your good is better
And your better is best." -St. Jerome
