Good-bye, Mr. President.....

Postby Epicnopolis » Fri Jul 31, 2009 11:02 pm

OOC: Sign up thread is here. Start with a post getting off the airplane, then one getting to the memorial service, I want basically everyone to respond before we start.

In the Blue House, in Castin Epicnopolis
Rachel looked at a picture of her father, in Fredrick's square. They were set to leave in 5 minutes, first to limo, then to the private jet, to get to the memorial service in Peroya.
By they she meant Alex and her. She had always been close to him, she grabbed the picture of her father, then, with trembling hands, set it back down. She put her hands over her eyes, she was sweating, or was that tears...

1 hour later, on the private jet, 15 minutes after initial lift-off.

Rachel looked a Alex. Who was apparently sleeping. She got up, to do something. The jet was big enough that she could aimlessly walk around on it. While she walked, she thought, about how her father had been the general during the civil war for the rebels. How her brother Brian had died in that war. How her mother died giving birth. And now this.
She was overwhelmed with rage, on the second story down, she punched her hand into a TV. It was bleeding.
One of the security guards ran down the stairs. Gun in hand, "What is it?! What's going on?" He asked wildly.
"Nothing..." She said, hiding her profusely bleeding hand behind her back.
After he left, she ran upstairs to Alex and woke him up.
"Whaza goin' on?" He asked sleepily.
She held out her hand, and his eyes widened in amusement. "What did you do this time?" He asked.
"I uh...Punched a wall."
"Uh huh." He said. "Come here to the bathroom. I can fix that up."

3 hours later, in the room which the service is being held. The open casket of Adam Santers lies their. Their is only one person in the room.
Rachel walked up to it. Her right hand had a homemade cast on it, courtesy of Alex. She leaned down, on the brink of crying.
"D-Daddy..." She said, she knelled down. "Daddy..." She said again, she leaned her head against the coffin.
All of a sudden the door shot open. Many voices could be heard, but the most audible was Alex's.
"I swear to god if you go in there I'll-" He was fighting with the paparazzi.
She heard grunts, and people saying, "But we have rights!" And that assorted nonsense.
Finally Alex slammed the door on all of them. He looked at her, and apparently saw the tear tracks in her eyes. Because his look softened.
He slowly walked up to her. And hugged her. She silently soaked his jacket with his tears...

Marcus Tiberius had been waiting on confirmation on his request for a private jet to travel to Epicnopolis. Due to Master M's strict security he had been forced to wait. Now though, his request had been accepted. Marcus looked at the white jet with the Master M logo on it, he had never seen such a beautiful thing. Marcus then looked at a pocket watch he was holding, flipping it open to show a woman. "I'm sorry I wasn't there Alexandria." He said as he closed it.

"10 minutes until take off Mr. Prime Minister." a flight attendant said as she walked by.

"Yes, thank you." Marcus said as he tucked away the watch. Now was not the time for grieving for his own loss, his nation's friend and ally's leader had died. He must be strong for this.

As Marcus walked aboard the plane the captain came on the intercom, "Hello honored passenger, this will be a 4 to 5 hour flight. Please get comfortable as we prepare to take off."

"Okay." Marcus said to himself as he sat in a chair. His body lurched forward as the plane began lifting off of the ground. "Oh yes, this is going to be a long trip." He said as he felt his stomach begin to hurt.

The deep hum of the jet's engines shook Marina Medicine Shield to her core. She hated flying. She felt herself sigh but could not hear it over the rumble of air travel. She thought maybe, her job as President would be a lot more palatable if she never had to fly. That, and if she never had to deal with one of Her Majesty's mood swings. Turning her dark brown gaze away from the window, she focused her attention on the collection of papers in her lap that had been faxed over to her by General Castin.

In it, was a brief history of Epicnopolis and a quick run down of customs and things of that nature. She idly flipped through the stack of papers and photos, halting her quest for nothing when she stumbled onto the picture of Rachel Santers. The picture was recent, but clearly taken before her father had died as her expression was lively and full of vigor.

Marina covered a sniff by brushing some of her black hair away from her face and turning her head away from the photo. Rachel looked young and Marina too had lost her father at a young age. To lose a parent was to lose a part of yourself. She could not imagine what the other woman was going through; especially all of the responsibility left on her shoulders. It was Marina's hope, and Queen Sarai's as well, that Apanii would be able to help in any way they could. Apanii's nation was still young but they had much to offer and they needed all the allies they could get.

"Is that her?"

Marina jumped with a start at the low voice next to her ear. She straightened her hair and glared at her companion. The Queen's brother or not, Adolph Crowfoot vexed her in ways she did not even have the vocabulary to explain. She cleared her throat irritatedly.

"Yes, that's her." she replied shortly, closing the folder.

He was wearing a bemused expression on his face, his brown eyes twinkling with mirth. He loved nothing more than to fluster her though he would never admit it. "She's pretty" he said nonchalantly, leaning back in his seat to gauge her reaction. She looked perturbed but did not say anything. He frowned slightly, his brow creasing; he hated it when no one was paying attention to him. Leaning over, Adolph snatched one of the papers out of the folder in Marina's lap, drawing an icy glare with it.

"Kiyi," [ooc: "kiyi" means "hey" in Blackfoot] He said genially, ignoring her stare. "They've got casinos, wanna go spend my inheritance?"

Marina whacked him on the knee with her folder. He could be so childish sometimes. If the Queen were not a close personal friend of hers as well as her boss, she might have bludgeoned Adolph ages ago. "Issapóómahksika, don't be a stereotype." she warned.

"Come on, Rina." he protested, knowing he was really getting under her skin. She only called him by his Blackfoot name when she was especially peeved. "We've been in Apanii for hundreds of generations, we're not 'Native Americans' anymore..." he balled his hand into a fist and thumped his chest, just over his heart. "We're Apaniians."

Marina pinched the bridge of her nose. Adolph would never understand diplomacy or politics. His sister was Queen and he got the titles along with it, free to live the playboy lifestyle of a celebrity without any responsibility. "Aaa [yes], we are Apaniians, which is precisely why you're going to behave yourself. If you ruin this for Sarai, or if you make a fool out of yourself at the funeral of Creator forbid, in front of Rachel, I'll cut your hair off, so help me."

She could have been joking, but Adolph's hands flew to his hair which had never been cut, it was to the middle of his back. His hair was important, his hair was his memories, the memories of his people, the memories of his ancestors. She could have been joking, but he'd known Marina since they were children and he would not put it past her.

"Yes, Miss President." he grumbled, crossing his arms.

Marina turned her gaze back towards the window, the flashing blue lights of the landing strip coming into view along with a fabulous blanket of lights from Epicnopolis' cities like a carpet of stars. As they circled the runway, she could just make out a sleek black limo waiting on the tarmac.

"Creator, please keep me from strangling this idiot." she mumbled under her breath before clearing her throat. "Adolph," she said so he could hear. "I'm serious. We're going to go to this funeral, you're going to present them with the funeral blanket and you're going to let me do all the talking, do you understand?" she paled for a moment. "You did bring the funerary blanket, didn't you?"

Adolph scoffed and reached under his seat, pulling out a large box and carefully taking off the top, revealing the blanket. It had been made by the finest weavers in Apanii. The funerary blanket was a conglomeration of tribal designs from the heritages of the weavers working on it and a style that had been developing in Apanii for the last hundred years. It depicted Adam Santers as a warrior, surrounded by horses. It was a high honor, but Marina was worried that the gift would not be enough. What could be enough to ease the grief of a daughter who has to bury her father?

She nodded her approval at Adolph and he closed the box, replacing it back under the seat just as their captain announced their descent. Marina's heart jumped into her throat as the plane bounced and jostled upon landing and slowly rolled to a stop. She really hated flying.

Chet sat in the jet headed to the funeral with his head leaned against the glass looking outside the window. His father was older than Rachel's father but had always been close friends. His father was in the Chetssaland congress when Rachel's ran for president. He couldn't remember a time that his father was happier other than some old wedding pictures and when Chet became president. Chet was like a big brother to Rachel on the other hand. He was 9 when Rachel was born and had stood up for her plenty of times when trouble struck.

He arrived at the service in a black sedan, and had to rush in to avoid the media. As he walked in he noticed Rachel with tears in her eyes. He walked over to her with a hugging gesture to try and comfort her.

OOC: Wow, short post dude. You forgot to mention that she is hugging Alex as of the moment.

IC: Rachel smiled, she let go of Alex and hugged Chet. "Thanks for coming." She said. Alex backed out of the room. "Can I ask your advice?" He nodded. "I'm the first queen of Epicnopolis, these people want me to...I don't know, perform I guess... What do I do?"

As Josh slid on his pin-striped jacket, he looked in the mirror.
"He was a good man. Why him, I'll never know." After a short look in the mirror, he started to walk out of his bedroom and pick up his badge. When heb slid the pin between the hole where a button should be, he straightened his jacket and then slowly walked towards his wife and children.
"Why do you have to go? You know it's her birthday."
"I know, but this is personal. He was a great man, and I look up to him. I'll make it up to her." As he finished his sentence, he kissed his wife on the cheek and gave his children a big hug. He felt the warmth of both hugs, and he put a smile on his face, so his children won't be sad.

After five minutes of walking, he finally reached his jet.
"Miranda, do this little thing for me."
"Of course Mr. President." As she finished, he whispered in her ear. After she gave him a smile, she walked off into the hanger where the jet was set.
"Lets hope this goes well. Johnny, how long will it be?"
"A few hours Josh, so sit back and relax." After, the pilot walked into the cockpit, and shut the door behind him. Josh was feeling tired, and decided to get some sleep before he reached the memorial service. He slid his jacket onto his hanger, and shut it into a wardrobe, before his lifted up his telephone.
"Johnny, wake me up when we get there."
"Aye Mr. President." When the pilot put the phone down, Josh heard a crackle, and pulled his covers over him.
A few hours later, and nagging voice started to filter through his mind.
"Mr President, we've got a turblance, you may want to put your seatbelt on." After the pilot warned him, he nodded and began to rub his head, as a sign of not getting enough sleep. As he stumbles through his room, he reached his seat, and fumbled with the seatbelt. As he looked above, a sign lighted up saying - "Landing".

"Johnny, you're one son a gun."
"I do my best Mr. President." Johnny started to climb up the stairs, and the black Rolls Royce slowly slid along the tarmac that Josh was standing on. He opened the door, and stepped into his car, ready to drive to the service. Later, the car pulled up at service and started a soft hum as Josh stepped out.
"Great, paperattzi. All I need." Josh soon wedged his way through the people he called "parasites", and made it to the door. As he lightly pushed it open he silently stepped through to the hall, where Adam was laying. Josh slid his hands into his pockets, and started to step towards the open casket.
"I'd never though that you would go so soon. I mean come on, you were pretty fit for your age. Great wife. Beautiful children, don't get me wrong. And now after all the times you've been through your time has come. I really wonder when I go I'll be a successful as you. Rest in peace." Josh finished his speech, and held Adams cold, wrinkled hand. As he let go, he sat down on a bench and started to cry.

On a Tu-144 jetliner flying over an ocean towards the Epicnopolis's capitol city, due to land in about 1 hour.

Xi Chang had already donned his uniform on, all the way down to the medals he had received during his service in the KJPA.
This was the first time in many years that someone other than the Dear Leader has gone to Epicnopolis. The Dear Leader knew the family of Adam Santers far more than Chang had.
"Psst". "Who was that?!" "In here Comrade Chang!" Chang opens up one of the large boxes and finds the Dear Leader inside of it. "Dear Leader?!!" "Yes of course, you know that I nothing would've stopped me from coming to the funeral, I at least want to meet the Santers family again". "Of course but how did sneak on the plane so easily?" "Told the airport officials to put me in a large box, store it on board and say it was supplies for Epicnopolis." "Good idea Dear Leader." "Indeed it is Comrade Chang, anyway we should be readying for the funeral which will be in a few hours I'd say."

A couple of hours and several international flights landing later. Driving to the funeral area were The Dear Leader, Xi Chang and several soldiers in a couple of armoured cars and a Zil limousine, all waving little Kim Jong-Ilian flags.

August 3, 2009, 2017 hours, President Jimmy Wales of Wikipedia and Universe boards his private jet to Epicnopolis. He finds his way to a seat and fastens his seat belt. He rotates his seat to face a flat screen TV. He picks up the remote and goes to the guide screen. He finds his way to a channel and selects it. He watches coverage of Adam Santers' passing. The engines roar and the plane speeds down the runway. It suddenly lifts off the ground. Wales went into another compartment where his entourage and others were seated. He looked out at the ground which seemed to be falling. He returned to his compartment, took a seat on his couch, and looked out the window at his fighter escort of two F-22s. He then picked up his cat and retired to his bed.
Image
One of his guards woke him up. His plane was about to land. He strapped his seat belt and waited. The plane touched down. After taxiing to the hangar, he could see the baggage, which included a crate with a golden retriever, being unloaded. Holding his cat, he exited the plane and stepped down onto the concrete platform. Two men greeted him and said "Epicnopolis welcomes you!"
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, if they get pissed, they'll be a mile away- and barefoot.

OOC: I'm just going to start this thing. If you haven't gotten here yet, then just post yourself getting here. Oh, and I have no idea how a funeral goes. So please, bare with me. I do seem to remember a sort of, party after a funeral too celebrate that person's life? I dunno...

IC: After everyone had gottern their, (or, mostly everyone,) Alex walked up to the podium. Everyone stopped talking. Rachel sat in the front row, in the arms of Chet. (OOC: The bestest of friends mind you. :p )
"We..." Alex started to say nervously, he took a deep breath. And started over again. Much louder and stonger this time. "We are gathered here today to celebrate a man, a great guy...A great father. This man had influence over people that you couldn't imagine. He was kind, he was generous, he was loving. He able-bodied this country so that no one could oppress us. He was the heart of all Epicnopolian's...He was..." A tear dropped on the piece of paper holding his speech. "So let us mourn this man, his accomplishments. Everything he did, was for us. Good-bye, Mr. President."

Rachel sat up, and wiped her eyes. She walked up to the podium and recieved a tremendous appaluse from all attending Epicnopolian's.
"My dad..." She began. "Didn't deserve to die. He was too good to be true sometimes. I still remember when I would whine to Dad and my brother Brian to play with me and my barbies...They would, just to make me feel better." She smiled meakly. "I know of all his political achievements, and I don't want to talk about that. He was a great president. But he was a better man. He was the type of person who would help you pick up your books in school." She laughed a little bit. "I want you too remember him not by his political achievements; but by the-" her voice finally cracked, and she couldn't go on. "I love you daddy..." She said quietly. Only the people in the front row; Marcus Tiberius, Chet, Xi Chang, and Napolean heard her.

After being greeted, President Jimmy Wales takes out his cell phone. He calls back to Wikipedia and Universe and contacts an adviser. He asks her to check the telegrams and she confirms he has one from Epicnopolis.
Adviser: It says that your embassies are confirmed.
Wales: Awesome.
Adviser: Anything else?
Wales: Negative. Thank you.
*Flips phone shut*
He proceeds into a government Denali delivered earlier by airlift. The golden retriever in the crate is loaded into the rear of the vehicle. The driver turns on the GPS and taps in the funeral home address. They pass the palace. Wales spots a man loitering in the bushes. He then spots guard dogs chasing him away. They pull up to the funeral home. Wales takes out his phone and makes a call to his adviser.
Adviser: Yes?
Wales: I am making plans that I may stay the night in Epicnopolis, though my plans remain flexible and could change. That shall be all. Thank you.
Adviser: Thank you Mr. President.
*Flip*
Leaving his cat with a member of his security, Wales entered the funeral home and signed in. The golden retriever was then taken to an undisclosed location in the Denali to await presentation to Santers. Wales then entered the room and glanced at the casket before taking a seat.

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, if they get pissed, they'll be a mile away- and barefoot.

The Zil limo and the 2 BRDM-2s arrive at the funeral home. Xi Chang and the Dear Leader along with the soldiers guarding them quickly rush, all finding seats towards the back of the room, though making little noise as they came in.
