"Well, you might want to pass that along to your Govt whom should then contact the Embassy section of the Foreign Office for that modification, I thought the plans for the staff had already been sorted out?" he asked.

"We thought so too and the Foreign Office must have made a mistake as I have seen the plans myself and they were included.. although they could have been in the other room..." The diplomat walked turned around and walked to the door that was closer to the garden and opened it "Of course... how foolish of me.." In the next room were a couple of reinforced booths and markers for a waiting line. There was even a small reinforced booth for one of the guards.

"Then the other one would be the meeting chamber. Now I remember. It has been a long day."

"Indeed it has. I was not actually in charge of the surveillance of the construction of this Embassy. Does it come with living accommodations for you and your family or will you live in an apartment outside the Embassy Compound?" asked the Commander.

"It has been a long-standing tradition that the living quarters are at the back of the house.. so when we go through this door here... " The diplomat opened the door and set foot into a hall where the other rooms were grouped around. The hall was kind of atrium with an impluvium in the floor where water collected and some local trees around it. When the diplomat looked up he could see that the roof was open but that it could be closed by pressing a button. It was a typical feature in many of the more wealthy homes back in Free Tristania. "Perfect" He just said. He then turned around. "That means that your offices and living quarters are down the back in the round-houses." The commodore nodded. "Let's have a look in the living room." The diplomat opened the door to the living room. "Lots of beautiful wood. Very modern.." The diplomat said. "Can you tell us who designed it ? It's in Free Tristanian style."

"Completely no idea, we've had so many Embassies going up lately that I've had to give permission reports to quite a few people. It probably wont be too hard to find out yourself when your staff get here, there will probably be a file with the designer's or the architects name of it." he added.

The commodore looked out the window. "They have thought about everything... even a bulletproof glass view over the garden. And a fireplace. We will need that in the winter." The diplomat looked at a screen door in the wall and opened it. "Plenty of books too. All neatly hidden."

"Would it be a problem to have a look around the back ?" The commodore said.

"No, no problem at all. I just have to find the key..." answered the Commander.

He began walking back into the hallway, heading to a rear glass door. Putting out a black key, he pushed it into the lock. The door took a second to electronically check the key, then the Commander opened it, allowing some cool air to enter the building.

The two men followed him to the back. "This must be one of the garages."The commodore pointed. "Sunken into the earth and reinforced concrete." Standing on the terrace at the back of the house they had a good view across the gardens. "Even a pool. It looks a lot like back home. Just the flora is completely different.. Birch isn't it ?" He pointed at a tree that was standing next to the steps into the garden. The diplomat nodded. "What is the weather like here during winter ?"

"Bloody awful, that would probably suit your weather terms. Snow, freezing weather and ice. That is why we chose some of these plants, the resistance to the strong cold weather present here."

"It doesn't sound like I could take my daughters for the New Year's swim we always have on the beach, no.." The diplomat had a grin on his face. "But I assume that the autumns are beautiful here."

"Usually, but it isn't a reason to hope for nice swimming weather, it is still a lovely sight and the cold becomes bearable. Summer is also pretty nice, the people born in Globexanter has this type of natural mutation, the cold which a normal person may class as unbearable and lethal is easily took by us. But when you live in this weather..." he answered, chuckling.

"... you either get used to it or you won't last long." The diplomat finished with a smile on his face. "A bit like foreigners moving to our country. They just can't understand that we go to work when it is over 30 degrees rather then laying on the sofa and being unable to even move a finger."

"Indeed, it's like as soon as they come here they complain of the cold, then catching a cold when they see the locals walking out with no jumpers and try to imitate them." he said, laughing at a scene he had remembered, where an Embassy Security guard attempted to come to work in a short sleeve tee-shirt and shorts, nearly catching his death in the cold.

The diplomat chuckled. "It is a bit like this exchange student that stayed at our place a couple of years ago. Man.. he couldn't take the food, even-though rules regarding preparations are stricter then in his country, so he got himself a bad case of cramps and on top of that got himself a sunstroke. So there he was..laying on the beach unsure whether he would hold out while going into the sea to escape the heat."

"Ah, tourists. We all love them and we are all some at points in our lives. Care to follow me?" asked the Commander, walking into the garden and following a walkway made out of cement with some tiles, all of which had been hand painted to continue an image alongside the other.

The diplomat followed him into the garden. The commodore walking at the back, checking out a vase and then following the two again. "The garden is really well designed." The diplomat said.

"Indeed, a local garden architect did all of the Embassies present. He does his job pretty well, and knows some very good contacts when it comes to garden decorations and plant dealers."

"It could be me.. but he either studied our designs or he has spend time with some of our more renowned garden architect, Pieter de Brel. I recognise his hand here." They halted before the offices.

"Probably both, they all believe it is better to learn from the others and perfect it to the maximal." answered the Commander, walking back towards the Offices as the snow crunched under his military issue boots.

The diplomat waited for the doors to be opened and looked inside though the window. "It seems to run down there.. it seems you got the extra sunken room and basement that would come in so handy during the winter." He told the commodore.

"I've just only seen that myself, we can go and see it now if you want." he said, opening the door and letting the two men walk in, then following them and closing the door behind him, automatically locking it.

The two men walked around. "Perfect office." On the desk was a computer and some pictures and there were shelves with books and files along the wall. A quick look showed that there were more electronics. "The communications can be controlled from here in case the communications room in the main building fails." The commodore nodded while checking the electronics. "Perfect." He walked around into the sunken room and found out that it was possible to walk from one building to the next. From the main building to the office and the garage and from the offices to the living quarters. All safely underground. He also looked around and found a guard booth were two heavily armed Marechaussees or Marines could be based in order to protect the tunnel. Underground were also the living quarters for the guards including a kitchen, a small living room, sanitation and bunks. They were well fitted and had reinforced concrete walls with wooden panels and ample daylight.

"The small bunker has been arranged as well ?" He said.

"The communications/ fall-out bunker in case everything would go wrong and the embassy would be stormed and taken by hostile forces of any sort." The commodore said. He looked at a door and opened it. There was a lift.

"Right, let's just see if the power is working..." said the Commander, walking towards the elevator and inserting his ID card into a small pad.

Immediately, the power came on, lighting up the elevator.

"Let's have a look, shall we?" he said.
