It has been three seasons and nearly a year since Cornelius Maximilian of the famed Merchant House and Royal Physician took control of the nation. In this short time, acting on his now iconic quote "In a decade I shall have done what has not been done in a century!" the Regent has expanded on the Natasha-era reformation laws of the tax code and achieved a ninety percent rebuild of Euro-Asia after its disastrous civil war and the short Fourteen Days war. In addition to his actions in legal matters and in Usea, the Regent has undertaken absolutely massive public works projects including but not limited to the construction of a large hydroelectric dam across the Silver River in northern Alisonia, a refurbishment of the Trans-Imperial Railway Bridge which spans the Alisonian Straits and the construction of the Empire's first transnational motorway stretching from Alexandrovsk to Novograd. In addition to his public works projects, the Regent has stated his intention to expand the Empire's industrial power with the construction of dozens of new manufactories across the nation and the refurbishment of older manufactories.

On top of all of this, the Regent has codified the borders of the Baronial estates, the counties, duchies, principalities and kingdoms that exist below the Imperial level of governance, with the assistance of the nobility in order to assure fair voice to the entitled after having expanded on many civil laws to the benefit of the common peoples of the Empire.

His unceasing drive has earned him the epithet whether official or not 'the Great' and many have began to call for his ascension to Emperor; though the Regent adamantly continues to refuse the station.

Large Asteroid Spotted on collision course with Earth!!!

On December 2, 2017, the day the Sieen/Alyssian war had broken out, observers from the international science community have spotted a large asteroid on a collision course with earth. They describe the asteroid in question, quite bluntly, as "big enough to flatten an entire city."

The asteroid was identified as the 2017XR02 Proteus asteroid. Scientists at the Solitude College of Applied Sciences in northeastern Natornic Cultures say that by analyzing the asteroid's trajectory, they predict a 20% chance of impact. The main body will cross the moon and likely break up, sending fragments into the surface. If fragments prove to slingshot the into the earth, the main body's fragments will have a predicted impact point within Alyssia, and the scientists at the college indicate that a major city will be wiped out if they hit (Which city they are referring to they refuse to say), with a 85% chance of a separate fragment impacting the port city of Whiterun in Western Natornic Cultures. They say the fragment that hits Whiterun will destroy a roughly estimated range of one-fifth to one-half of the largely populated port city due to the estimated speed at which it will go in through the atmosphere. The world's major governments advise the international community not to panic, but to stock up on supplies and evacuate the affected areas.

Archaeologists find "The Tomb of the Dragonborn"!

Three weeks ago, after 5 long years since the last bits of the remnants of Natornic Cultures' imperial past were discovered, a tomb has been discovered (entirely by accident) by a scientist on his way up the Dragonmouth Summit path twards the observatory.

Archaeologists went in and, by evening the next day, have explored the whole tomb.

Judging by the inscriptions on the walls, the tomb was believed to have belonged to the dragonborn hero known as "Revan," who in fairy tales was said to have defeated the evil dragon god Alduin. Further examination of the tomb lead to a secret passage leading to his burial chamber, where he rested peacefully for years.

Writing on the sarcophagus mentions, "Hero", "voice wielder", and "Bane of Alduin", further indications that it is indeed Revan inside. Upon opening the sarcophagus, they saw what looked like a katana, likely the blade Revan used to defeat the aforementioned "dragon god." Inspecting the weapon showed a blade of pure diamond, and a strong, pulsating magic enchantment. Writing on the blade's hilt says "He who has the blood of a dragon, can use this weapon to its full potential, and a beam of magic that matches the person's past." The writing likely indicates that the blade, when wielded by someone of note, can unlock the magic locked inside, and coat the weapon in light, either blinding white for a person of good heart, or crimson red for a person who has done evil deeds, much like the stories about it in the fairy tales say.

Carbon-dating done on the body, sword and other items pulled from the tomb indicated they were at least 2,000 years old. Evidence that again prove the person buried is indeed Revan have also been found, including computerized facial reconstructions, letter signatures, and his name mentioned on the wall of Queen Meridia's tomb 15 years ago. The archaeologists were payed highly for their discovery, and the tomb was opened to the public for tours. While Revan's armor was sent to be on display next to Meridia's items at the Solitude Museum of Ancient History, The Dragonborn's Blade was locked away in a display case within the President's office in the Presidential House because of its immense power.

So, everybody knows California made it to the Moon first, and then Belkaland, and then basically nobody but them trading missions back and fourth and setting up gods knows what on the surface over the years until the 90s when Eslovakia and Acrium decided to go up like it was a big thing after the Joint Belkan-Californian Mission to Yol made the Moon look kind of laughable. Well; we've officially jumped on the bandwagon to the moon, or at least we've started the process. The Imperial Space Agency started looking into going to the moon during the Russo-Asian Cold War, same as Alisonia, neither state got very far but, the ISA is now fairly confident that they're going to send an Imperial mission to Ursula sometime soonishly.

As for everybody here? Well we'll hold our breath and hope this rocket doesn't blow up like the last two did.

Asteroid Interceptor Satellite launched for inbound Proteus Asteroid

An asteroid interceptor satellite, code-named AST-INT-4101, was launched earlier today from the Ascention Launch Facility in Natornic Cultures after an emergency meeting from the Natornic Cultures Congress deemed it necessary to examine the asteroid to see what it can possibly do.

The satellite will perform the mission in three stages. First, it will scan the asteroid's outer structure for external defects. Second, it will fire an impact probe into the surface of the asteroid, creating a crater in the surface to test fragility of its structure. Finally the satellite will scan the asteroid again, this time around the new crater for interior mineral composition and possible fracture points. With data from these steps obtained, the scientists tracking the asteroid can determine what kind of damage this thing can do.

The rocket ascended to orbit flawlessly, where it achieved polar orbit (orbiting north to south) and jettisoned its first stage. The unmanned rocket then set a trajectory for the oncoming asteroid and fired its second stage engine for a few seconds to get it into trajectory, before jettisoning it. After jettisoning the second stage engine, the flanges separated, revealing the hundred-million dollar satellite. Approximately 2 hours into the flight, the NCASA crew at the Whitewater Creek Aerospace Center (WCASC) in southern Natornic Cultures began tracking it's position, with computers ready in the case of an autopilot malfunction. "We pray to god that this vital mission goes as planned." reported a technician during an interview. "By keeping an eye on the satellite we sent from the Ascention Launch Facility, I have high hopes that it will succeed, so we can put these fears to rest once and for all."

We are not sure that this will go as planned, but we will continue to cover the story as the mission progresses.

Tragedy in the Skies

This morning, Air Ixiom Flight 324 went down over the Naggiar Plains. Flight 324, a Boeing 767, which was on a route from Saint Ark's Robert Cobert International Airport to Warsaw, Poland-Lithuania, disappeared from ATC radar at 6:43 AM local time. The people in the area have also witnessed seeing an airliner hit the ground, albeit with its nose missing, along with several pieces of debris. Authorities are heavily suspecting a mid-air collision as there have been reports from the Air Home Guard of a Tornado ADV not returning to base. The search for survivors had ended upon arriving at the crash site. The task is now currently going on as a recovery operation. We will provide new developments as they come.

Thaedra — In perhaps the biggest application of electoral magic and work in modern Sylvanean history, Lord Noel Bolton has led the Conservative Party to their first majority victory since 246 OTO, that's 1998 for those of you on the Gregorian, and has subsequently seen Noel return to 11 Lionsgate as the Prime Minister-elect, due to be formally appointed by His Majesty King Richard later this afternoon.

Noel Bolton's return to politics following his retirement at the end of his first term as Prime Minister in 1998 has had somewhat of a coat tail effect for the Conservative Party; who were currently experiencing an all time low this term, only possessing sixty of the four hundred and fifty five seats in the Royal Senate. Lord Bolton announced his return to politics at the most recent convention for the Conservative Party and it was met with instant good news, Harry Reed, whose re-election was hit by constant scandals, and his Labour Party lost five points in a single day, which they struggled to recover for the rest of the campaigning season.

Seat allotments are very different; for the first time ever, the Royal Senate has only 2 parties, the Labour and Conservative Parties. Noel Bolton and his Conservatives won 74% of the general vote, winning the Conservatives 314 seats in the Royal Senate, which has allowed them to create the largest single party majority in the Kingdom's history. The remaining one hundred and forty seats have gone to the Labour Party, which finds itself in need of a new leader as in an ultimate embarrassment, now former Prime Minister Harry Reed, who was MP for Charlton, has lost his seat to the Independent challenger. Front runners for the new leadership include James Sullivan, the Senator from Trent, and Edward Grey, the son of the Count of Aere; either will be elected by their party within the next few days.

Prime Minister Bolton's new agenda is a rather hefty one, but he'll have little to no issues passing it. Among one of his many first priorities is a massive refunding of His Majesty's Armed Forces, which experienced a massive forty percent slash in it's funds over the last eleven years while Labour held the government. Bolton announced he and other senior Tory Senators will be proposing a formal bill in the coming days, but they said that they hoped to put no less then four hundred billion back into the Armed Forces by the end of the decade. In addition to the new funding switch, Bolton has ordered his new Minister of Health to conduct an extensive review of the National Medical System, a universal health care system implemented by Prime Minister Aisha Muir back in 2006. It ran successfully for the first six years until a massive reformation campaign by Prime Minister Reed saw what Tories label as fund mismanagement and borderline fraud. None the less, the political environment of Sylvanea should be getting interesting within the next few weeks as time progresses.

Another Emperor?

As has become common in this last decade it has been noted by more than one opinion that the Imperial Court at Alexandrovsk is unstable. The tragic loss of Natasha the Great has left our hearts heavy for some time now, the benign if not forgettable reign of Aleczandrina the Unready followed, then of course there is now Her Majesty the Empress, Penelope the Young. In a rather uncharacteristic move, His Majesty the Grand Prince of Alexandrovsk has announced he will be pressing his ancestral right as Heir Presumptive of the former Empress, Aleczandrina, to supersede Penelope's reign, as she was unlawfully installed in his opinion.

Down with the Crown? Regent to Introduce New Currency!

The long standing currency of the Empire, the Golden Crown has been declared discontinued by the Imperial Mint on orders from the Regent, Cornelius Maximilian. The Regent cited coin debasement as his primary reasoning, in addition to wanting to revitalize the economy of the Empire in response to recent stagnation, in association with the Mint they will be minting a new coin-based currency, the Silver Thaler. This new coin will be part of a dual system along with the already minted common Copper Coin which will probably become the most common coinage in the Empire, one hundred coppers will make up a thaler. The Regent noted that this change will take some time to implement, and that every Imperial family can expect a one time payment of 100 Silver Thalers to assist in revitalizing the economy. Gold Crowns are still legal tender in the Empire, however they will no longer be minted and will no longer be accepted after a period of five years.

The Lights of Kyiv

Electrical power has been restored to the entirety of the south half of the country, supported by two and a half a dozen freshly built and maintained power plants staffed by professional electrical engineers. The lights came on in Kiev for the first time in eighteen years today, to the amazement of an entire generation that has never experienced electricity before. In addition the pipe work for running water as well as their purification plants and a dam have finished construction through the tireless efforts of Ruthenian and Birkanian engineers and contractors, bringing readily available and fresh water to millions of people for the first time since before the civil war.

The Government announced today that these projects were only the start of the revitalization of the Ruthenian state, and that we should be expectant of a newly expanded and built infrastructure before the end of the year, work has already begun on hundreds of hospitals and schools across the country and some are expected to be finished within the coming months. General Valshannar's office was unavailable to comment on the ongoing projects but a spokesperson for the Junta said that all of them were coming along normally as of this printing. As always the Journal will provide updates on this and other important issues to the Ruthenian people as information becomes available.

NEWS UPDATE - AST-INT-4101 COMPLETES MISSION

Earlier this morning at 2:50 AM, the Asteroid Interceptor Satellite arrived at the Proteus asteroid and created a stable orbit. With no estimate to the asteroid's arrival to earth, the crews behind the mission immediately got to work in scanning the asteroid. After Stage One scanning completed, the surface showed a lot of cracks. The impact probe fired at 4:20 am, creating a small crater that sent mall chunks into the satellite's starboard solar panel, creating holes that would have compromised the satellite. After another orbit, the final stage scan indicated an interior made of nickel and iron. The interior was severely cracked, and thus it was determined that it wouldn't take much opposing gravity wells to shear large chunks off the asteroid. With the satellite compromised and losing battery, the crews had no choice but to abandon the satellite by firing the retro thrusters, burning the last remaining fuel, and let it burn up in the earth's atmosphere above the Adrianic.

In other news, the Altea Aerospace corporation began a test flight of the XR1, codenamed "Delta Glider", the first of 3 new spacecraft. After months of planning and construction since the project began, the XR1 was designed to deal with the growing need for a low-cost reusable spacecraft. The first of its kind, the XR1 prototype cost nearly 2.4 billion dollars to construct. The test flight went without a hitch, as the ramjet propelled it to an undisclosed location. Further development will be undergone from there for the rocket engines that will take the Delta Glider to space. Altea Aerospace has yet to release the details of the other two spacecraft.

The Sound of Progress

Is the banging of the Tsar's gavel, concerning long standing traditional laws regarding landed bondage, the practice of Serfdom has been declared illegal in the Empire, bringing one of the last vestiges of slavery to a long awaited end. The Imperial Edict of His Majesty was issued on the twenty-eighth of June and comes into effective Law starting today forevermore. The caste abolished by this, the serfs, have been allotted to the free peasants, and may now move across the Realm, own property and are no longer bound to the land of their lord's manor, if a serf chooses to remain with their lord's manor, they are under the Law to be paid a wage and to be allowed to continue to dwell where their families have for centuries. It is expected most serfs will remain with their lords.

Thaedra — In his first major over seas trip in nearly two decades, His Royal Majesty King Richard IV has announced that he will be traveling overseas to Sylvanea's neighbor, Beusandille, to review and perhaps ferment even stronger ties between the two realms, which have been growing exponentially ever since the Beusan intervention in the Zvornik Occupation in 1994.

His Royal Majesty will not be alone of course, accompanying him will be the Foreign Minister, Lady Francesca Leonard, and representatives from the Office for Foreign Relations, as well as his youngest son and third in line to the throne, His Royal Highness Rhys Lancaster [16]. This comes as a not shocking event as the Royal family has tried to take spotlight away from the Crown Prince, HRH Ronan, who was recently called up on his commission with the Royal Navy and word has been going heavily around he will be deployed quite soon.

Despite no formal alliance existing between the two realms, Beusan intervention to the tune of tens of thousands of troops back in 1994 help see the Winter offensive succeed and the finale to the Zvornik Occupation; a debt which Sylvanea has yet to repay and a number of Beusans were immortalized for their effort, including His Lordship, Marquis Gervais Joel Duval, who was commanding a unit of Beusan curassiers who infamously took part in the cavalry charge at the apex of the Battle of Thaedra, and led to the legendary photograph of Lord Duval charging next to Sir Peter Bailey.

Thaedra — With the first reports coming in just five minutes ago, possibly the largest terrorist attack in the history of Sylvanea has occurred in Granger Shipyards, which resides in the Twins.

Reports are still early and not fully developed, but at approximately 1:40 PM a massive explosion was heard on Slipway #6, which contained a large deep water cargo container which was under construction, and several crew workers reported seeing a number of cranes and buildings either collapse or get destroyed. An estimated three minutes later, four more explosions were heard, both at the shipyard's entrance, at a on site repair shop and second workshop, with two more explosions coming from slipways about five minutes later. So far, an estimated forty workers are missing and at least four are confirmed injured, two of them were flown to Alsby Crown Hospital with life threatening injuries.

The Prime Minister's office could not be reached, but online statements from the Department of the Navy shows that the H.M.S. Rothbury and three Vickers destroyers were present at the yards for routine repair and upkeep work. A more detailed report is expected to follow once more details emerge.

Thaedra — The Ministry of Justice held a press conference this morning focused on the deadly terrorist attack on Granger Shipyards yesterday, which caused more then thirty billion pounds of damage and left one hundred workers dead and nearly triple that wounded, most of the causalities coming from when a deepwater cargo container exploded and collapsed on itself.

Secretary Vanimedlë's official stated that the radical Rhlonar insurgent group, calling themselves the Green Circle, have claimed responsibility for the attack and have threatened more, through an online video which has since been removed by government censors. The group claimed that it had infiltrated the ranks of the shipyard workers and placed multiple explosive bombs in critical area's; which rings through, bombs were detonated at the foreman's office, on several slipways rendering them inoperable and the worker's barracks, as well as several ships that were under construction.

The Ministry of Justice is asking for increased vigilance from all citizens and is asking all industrial workers to report any suspicious activity from fellow co-workers or employers, the Ministry itself is releasing several experts and advisers to corporations to help prevent yet another attack such as this one.

The Navy's Gaulex-class carrier suffers a massive attack that leaves a huge hole in her hull and has to be towed back to port

Thaedra — Royal Navy spokepersons have confirmed what has been flying over social media for the last two days; the HMS Frank McDonnell, the Navy's only remaining Gaulex-class carriers which were purchased from the Russo-Spainish Empire twenty years ago suffered massive attack from the inside, which left a ten meter hole in it's aft hull and left it without power, requiring a tug to bring it back to Taunton Field yards for repair.

The Navy has confirmed that the attack was carried out by Green Circle insurgents who infiltrated the ship's crew, mostly Operations, and planted high yield explosives in the ship's boiler pipes, which caused a massive back explosion and also destroyed the ship's boilers, killing approximately six hundred crew men and wounding four hundred others, as well as leaving a massive ten meter hole that broke the ship's waterline. The Navy states that if it wasn't for the quick actions of the remaining crew, the ship would have certainly sunk, which civilian elements confirmed when civilians near the yards when the carrier was towed in earlier this morning saw a visible heavy list to starboard from the carrier.

Taunton Yard officials in cojunction with the Navy confirmed the damage was quite extensive, and given the age of the carrier indeed, many were surprised to see it get the repairs, which Taunton officials including an un-named foreman stated would take the better part of the year. Repairs are to include new boilers, new hull plating, a resurfacing of the flight deck as well as the updating of various ship components. She is expected to be relaunched next Spring.

Royal Appointments

In Alexandrovsk today the Regent of the Empire officially resigned his position before the Tsar, ending his effecient but short reign after only a few short years. On the same day the Tsar announced that in order to better manage the Empire and modernize its interior workings several changes would be made to the government of the Empire, though simultaneously he reassured the nobility that there would be nothing harmful to their offices.

The position of Steward is being filled for the first time since the early reign of Natasha the Blessed, the Tsar appointed Lord Sevastyan Yordanov, his fourth cousin to the position, who stated he would be working closely with his kinsman to better run the day to day operations of the Imperial Government, essentially acting as the Tsar's Prime Minister.

In addition to this the Tsar has declared intent to create an Advisory Parliament, appointed by His Majesty to assist in matters concerning the little peoples of the Empire, he has stated that it shall be consistent of free peasants and contain one hundred people of varying ages, ethnic groups, religious backgrounds and professions as well as comprising both genders.

Cruiser King Kyeswa III Sunk in Air Attack

Yesterday, the Asrani Loyalist cruiser, King Kyeswa III was sunk by Rebel aircraft off the coast of Loyalist controlled territory. Out of the ship's compliment of seven hundred thirty, there were only nine survivors. The King Kyeswa III, a Crown Colony-class light cruiser, formerly a Britannian ship, was purchased by the Asrani Royal Navy in 1952 and was one of the oldest ships in the Royal Navy.

"The loss of life is unacceptable. We should not let this sinking deter our resolve. Our vengence will be swift." One of King Saki's advisors said in a press release this morning. King Saki himself was unavailable to comment on this turn of events, but he did mention in a note that "the sinking of the King Kyeswa III was a devastating blow, but one that the people will rally behind in the hopes of bringing this long and bitter war to a conclusion."
