King Yazin II walked out onto the balcony. He thought about the last couple of months. He had led the Green Yatzatzians. After the assassination of the filthy Gudom, he had announced that he was behind the assassination, and renamed himself Yazin, in memory of the great Danak Yazin, first king of Yatzatz. He had slowly rallied the people of Yatzatz behind him, using their patriotism as a hook. Now, he was ready for the climax. He cleared his throat, looked at the huge crowd below the balcony, and began.
"Do you remember the 1850s? It was only eighty years ago, less then a century, but anyone here who remembers that time will realize how different it was from now. Then, we were an empire. Anyone passing through the northern half of the largest ocean on a planet of water would stop in to marvel at the sights. Those were glorious days. The leaders of then were men of genius. However, even geniuses can make mistakes. And they made one massive mistake.
"They were mislead by democracy.
"Everyone here can see where this has led us. While those men were geniuses, their successors were not. Their successors failed to take advantage of the opportunity to purchase Alaska. Their successors fell by the roadside as Japan rose. Their successors did nothing as the United States annexed an independent nation.
"No, their successors were not as great. Not even close.
"And if the successors can fall that far, what about the successors of the successors?
"They led us into embarrasement in the Great War. The world laughed at our incompetence and stupidity. But they were not content with merely embarrassing our nation, and led it into a depression the likes of which has never been seen before. Then, and only then, the people of Yatzatz were fed up. Tired of the incompetence, wanting to feel greatness again, they did the only thing they could.
"They assassinated the leader.
"But the government still didn't learn! They tried to fix the problem with democracy, the same thing that had led them into this mess! That only led to two years of complete anarchy. Their chosen leader was so bad, he was assassinated as well! And his son took the throne.
"His son was smart. His son began to fix the problems. But we did not want another cycle. We wanted to break out of the cycle. We wanted to overturn democracy and establish a new empire, one that would never fall.
"And so, with great sadness, we did the only thing we could do. We assassinated the king.
"And now, we can finally forge ahead.
"Gentlemen, General Lenton once said "The reason you capture land is only to capture more." Other nations have learned this lesson, but we, the originators, have not. Let us not fall beside the road again. Gentlemen, join me in following the path of King Yazin I and establishing a Yatzatzian Empire!"
The cheering was so loud, it could be heard throughout Yatzand. The people would join, and an empire would rise.
