From the website of the Discoverian Office of National Heritage: The Monument to Queer Utopia stands in the centre of Rand Square at the very heart of the Central Zone of Discoveria's capital city, Las Veritas. The Monument comprises a 15-metre-tall sculpture overlaid with white marble, depicting a group of people with arms up-stretched supporting a steel and glass 'buckyball' structure in rainbow colours, representing the diversity of the world’s people. Engraved into a circle of silver set into the ground around the base of the Monument are Marsha P Johnson’s words: "No pride for some of us without liberation for all of us".
At the base of the Monument, a raised granite plaque bears a quotation from Professor Simon Goldacre's preface to Two Principles, One Nation, engraved in gold lettering: "In Science we trust: we trust that the institutions we now establish with the results of scientific progress, we shall one day observe to be the most effective form of human government."
The Monument was commissioned by the Office of National Heritage in 2006 to celebrate the ratification of the Articles of Founding by the first Discoverian General Assembly. It was designed by Discoverian architect James Venter of Venter and Franklin, Las Veritas. After it was damaged by street protests against the authoritarianism of President Rutherford’s final term in government, a reconstruction project was carried out in 2026 as part of the 20th anniversary of the Founding of Discoveria.
