When you're setting the pretitle for your nation, there are certain limitations in place on top of the usual NS rules: it can't have any punctuation (except apostrophes and dashes), and it has to stay between 2 and 28 characters. Of course, some nations have pretitles which you can't normally have, since game mods have the ability to ignore the aforementioned limitations, creating what I like to call "illegal pretitles".

That's why I've started this thread. If you have any trading cards that have 0, 1, or 29+ characters and/or punctuation (specifically periods, commas, exclamation marks, question marks, colons, semicolons, underscores, parentheses, or brackets) in their pretitles which you want to sell, feel free to advertise them here! I declare the Illegal Pretitles Marketplace open!

For the first card of this new thread, I bring you an S2 RPRA Techcorp, a UR with a 48 character pretitle being sold at junk price.

What do you think about cards that do the exact opposite?

Rather than have a very weird pretitle, some have no pretitle at all.

That's a type of illegal I've never heard of before, but it seems to be an illegal nonetheless! I'll update the OP to include pretitle-less cards!

There are some unicode characters that are capable of doing that, such as “⠀” U+2800

Nope, your pretitle is only 28 characters, none of which are actually illegal.

Mottos have much looser rules than pretitles, so that's not an illegal.

I think it is just a space key, so it technically isn't illegal

Space keys at the start and end of pretitles just get chopped off, so that doesn't work. You can't make a pretitle that's all spaces.

I just figured out how to get a "blank" pretitle. You have to use three zero-width space characters (U+200B) separated by alternating spaces. The pattern is ABABA, where A is the no width space and B is a regular space.

You can copy and paste the blank line below for an example:

A single character is also possible with ACABA, where C is the desired character.

Example on next line:
​A​ ​

Thus the only pretitles which are truly illegal are those containing more than 28 characters.

*Longer than 28, starting or ending with a space, or containing any of the following characters: .,!?:;_(){}[]&#@%^=+`\"<>/
