It's both. Nations who want to give others a chance to bid on their discards are posting their ask list and nations who are cardies are looking at those lists to see if there are any they want to bid on.

Well, how do I post my ask list? I gotta get rid of things.

Use this format: https://www.nationstates.net/nation=your nation's name/page=deck/show_trades=asks
(Thanks SherpdaWerp and Recuecn for posting the correct format)

With the addition of icons that display market values on cards (should said market values be over junk value), this thread's topic seems to be addressed.

Image

To be clear, market value has been abbreviated to "MV", as seen in the top left-hand corner, and both the MV and bid icons only appear when opening packs.

Should a card's market value be over its junk value, players may very likely find themselves keeping cards rather than junking them.

And yet another why I'm in favour of a junk yard.

For those unfamiliar with my proposal, a junk yard is a place where all junked cards are sent to for a few weeks, and whilst there, anyone can buy them at junk value (first in first served). If noone purchases them after a few weeks in the junk yard, I think it's safe to assume noone wants them

I feel like this would destroy a lot of the market. There'd be no point bidding on a card unless there's a particularly high demand for it. For cards that only a particular person or a small group of people want, people could just wait till they get junked and get them essentially for free. And what makes the game interesting--the fact that there's so many cards, you may never pull a particular one--would also go out the window since with the sheer amount of cards being junked, they'd all soar in availability.

I also feel like that's a lot of cards to ask the game to keep track of, from a purely technical standpoint. If violet imposed deck limits to keep the number of cards down, this seems like it would be exponentially more.

I would strongly support this, especially since most "farmers" junk only to get more bank; and it would help collectors to get their hands on some sought-after cards for their collection, which otherwise might be unobtainable for them because of their scarcity (produced by junking).

I do agree to a point, but since there are no limitations of how many farms someone could have, the game is rigged heavily in favour of the big farmers (which might be in the interest of NS, since more nations does show as more accesses).

I don't agree with your point that the number of farms is unlimited. The only limited resource in this game is Time. Farming a puppet for cards costs time. And it's the total amount of time you're willing to spend that limits your production. I use 240 nations to farm, but since my time is limited, the bigger part of that 'farm' is idle and I could generate the same output with only 50 nations. Don't focus too much on the size of the farms.

If you don't want to set up a large farm but you do want to collect certain cards, you can use the time other players spent on farming to your advantage by placing bids above junk-value. Those cards will quickly fall into your deck because the farmers pull them and sell to any serious bid.

You wish; I had (and have) some serious bids (above junk value) for months, without even any sign of notice, reply or ask. But even more than this, I have to ask you, what do you think would be a "serious" bid ? Five bank for a common or uncommon which is owned by above twenty nations, as some people obviously seem to expect to make it "worth of their precious time", as I have seen often enough when going over the market ? Where do you think a single player would take this money from ?
And then, I just have to state, if you don´t even find the time to manage such large farms effectively, why the hell do you even run them ? Why not simply reduce them to an reasonable ammount of farms (if you think you must have them - what even for, I ask) you can handle ? You say, you could handle fifty farms more effective than twohundredandforty (which you declare to run), why do you still feel the need for having all of them ? Only because it´s "possible" and "legal" ?
And where in hell is a real reason for this card game, if only used for creating immense, but somehow worthless ammounts of bank (which leads only to random prices on the market, which "normal" players can´t even dream of to pay) by junking every drawn card below epic or even legendary without real interest in meaningful collecting ?
I say, that´s a kind of "circulus vitiosus", as they call it, farming for bank which leads to higher prices which can only be achieved by more farming...

A lot of your bids are on season 1 cards; which are significantly harder to come by in packs now that season 2 has started; and people value them more highly as a result.

You should try sending telegrams to nations which own the cards you want (but don't spam them, just send them a single telegram), stating your offer and offering to buy their card. Some players don't pay attention to cards beyond opening packs; so you have to draw their attention to the fact that they have something they can sell.

You also just need to be patient and remember that this game has a lot of players and only a small fraction of those players actually check their nations every day, and only a fraction of that fraction pay attention the their cards on a daily basis.

If a bid is placed, i sell commons at 0.03, uncommons at 0.07, rares at 0.13 and ultra rares at 0.24 (unless they have a higher value for some reason or another).

The reason why i use so many nations to farm is because i allready had so many nations. I only selected 240 nations that i didn't care too much for their stats. If it's the high number of puppet nations that bothers you: I created my 100th nation on wednesday december 19 2003. They were not created for cards. I simply use a bunch of them for cards today.

And the reason for this card game? It's like everything in Nationstates. The players make it what it is. Some collect region cards, some flower cards... Some only try to increase their deck value, some try to increase their self-card value... others are only on the market to make more bank. And in the end these are all just bits on a server.

A lot of your bids are on season 1 cards;

Thank you for your tips, although (after lurking in here for quite some time) I already knew about.
Well, I prefer S1 cards, if possible, but I mostly was referring to former bids on cards (not the current ones, which seem to be pretty fresh since the record renews everytime asks or bids are changed), when there were no S2 cards.

A variation of the junk yard idea. What if each day the junkyard would throw up 5 random cards from the cards were junked that day, which you can buy unlimited copies for junk price?

I'd buy 300 copies of the first random common i can spot on that junkyard market :)

I think that won't work.

...tempting offer; but since I´m collecting griffins, not trees...
(In my country and the language/writing system we use it´s very common to use "quotation marks" to highlite or emphasize something; or maybe simply the generation "before computer/smartphone" is still familiar with punctuation marks and their use. Remember the "grammar nazi" thread a decade ago ?)

In English, it means that you are mocking the use of the word.
