Sequentially lowering your own card offer by 1 cent?

Postby Tessen » Sun Jul 14, 2019 10:18 pm

I'm curious... what is the point of sequentially lowering the price of your own sell offer by 1 cent, well over a hundred times -- without any bid challenges? By doing so, the seller has raised the the auction timer to nearly 13 hours.

What is the purpose of the recent offer activity on this card?

Doesn't this inappropriately manipulate the trading system, and disrupt the format for anyone else interested in fair trade?

Its so definitky everyone active in card dealing will log on at some point and see this sale. Being one of the most expensive legendaries it's possible somone might bid above this sort of "minimum offer" and buy the card. As for fair trade if it's not against the law it's fair lol.

Well lets put it like this when I tried to look at the recent moves my screen nearly froze so I'm not personally in favour with the idea. Though as an experiment I do think it will be quite intriguing to see what happens.

The record is 4 days held by me :P it started out as a way to try and shake someone off the auction but soon became lets see how crazy long we can make it. it also helps if you are doing a pull event for the card as cards at auction have a higher chance of being pulled

How did the seller slip out of the initial 150.00 bid from The Tampa Bay Rays which had been standing for many days?

Highest bids match to the lowest offers (or the closest offers in the event of multiple matches). Just as you can outbid someone for a card, so a seller can out-ask someone to get the sale instead. That can take place even if there isn't a competition for the card.

Nah. That's not it. One bid stood for days -150.00. Dude asked 150.00 yesterday. Bids matched, no competition and the seller just lowers his price? No other cards involved. Who gets to do that?

Matched bids just mean that's how the auction will resolve when the timer ends. It prevents the matched bid and ask from being cancelled. A bid can still be increased and an ask can still he decreased. A decrease in the ask means the seller gets less money and, in this situation, The Tampa Bay Rays is not injured in that process. So I'm a bit miffed about your implication that there is some injustice here.

For this auction, the seller wishes to prolong the auction length. It's costly and time consuming but, ultimately, innocuous.

Ultimately a player's stunt to announce he's "done" with the card game. Miff that.

It also has the effect of tying up the Bidders Bank until the trade is resolved or someone increases the bid. In this case Tampa Bay cannot free up his $150.
