If you're wondering about those sirens blaring in the background, word on the street is Nationstates is preparing to re-enact an old Flash animation that actually happens to be almost exactly a year younger than Nationstates itself is.

This will be very sad for me given I used to always boast about it in my old region. Now I'm alone.

I probably won’t be able to be here for the start so, I’ll be blown up later, after all the alliances have formed (YAY!) I mean, this is also my first time trying to blow up other nations into inhospitable wastelands!

Apparently the last iteration of this event ended up with one group of mates just utterly annihilating everybody else as a massive coalition? Wonder if that's going to happen again this time.

That's how it's been since N-Day^6 unfortunately. It's a lot of fun to make a ton of nations and see how far you can get on your own or with just a couple friends. I(we?) did pretty well last year all things considered, until the potatoes caught onto what I was doing. Pretty hilarious when they found out it was a single person behind it.
Anyway, I think we need more brave people willing to start their own factions rather than just joining the giant ones for a lame two-sided main battle. Many smaller factions results in more interesting conflict.

Anyone know what it means to finalize targets faster? Does that mean their nukes hit faster?

The belief is that no-one wants that situation again - people will behave differently to create a more balanced conflict that lasts the 24 hours. The reason there's 3 days of advance registration/joining of factions is to allow players the opportunity to carry out that self-balancing; it'll become obvious well in advance if one gigafaction is emerging and hopefully people will fix that.

Forgive me if I sound ignorant, but what is the purpose of forming a gigantic coalition? It just seems like it would ruin the fun, really. I have not been on NS long, so I did not experience the previous 'Nuclear Event', but I don't think it should be about 'winning' but more, well, enjoying the apocalypse with your friends, am I wrong?

No need to explain through TG, fella. It's honestly not that complicated. So, in 3-4 days, N-Day will happen. N-Day is an optional event in which nations can partake in TOTAL ATOMIC ANNHILATION of other nations. Purely in good fun, of course. As whatever happens to your nation, it won't be permanent, since everything will reset once N-Day ends. Here's the N-Day Factbook for further details.

I think one word sums it up: tryharding. Not quite as neat of an explanation, but it is one that I'm aware of.

So how would you get people to join your faction, do you just post something on the gameplay forums?
