How did you ride out the apocalypse? Nuking everyone, shielding everyone, or something different? And did you survive? I shielded some people in my faction and I survived the whole 36 hours.
I am an awful person.

I joined a large alliance and contributed the entirety of my industry to my specialty- I had my main as a strategic specialist making only shields (once I figured out that was its advantage) and a puppet that just made nukes. Following the marching orders of August helped out too :p

I stockpiled both shields and nukes and didn't launch any of the latter, holding them simply for deterrence purposes. And it worked, I wasn't targeted once and ended with a shield level of over 400 and 150 or so nukes for purposes of armed neutrality.

By the end of it, I had no radiation, no launched nukes, and no targets placed upon me.

I might've missed out on the destruction of others, but I was rewarded by being able to miss out on the destruction of myself.

We apologise for killing you.

Our strategy was very coordinated, so we timed our attacks to cover all nations in a faction at the same time (or all the active ones) to limit retaliation, hence why we were able to come third without getting hit once.

We also had a command structure which ensured that we knew where our instructions were coming from.

That's how we did it, but we had a slow start. We probably could have been more aggressive if we could have had more people online together, so we scaled down how hard we wanted to push to make sure we could handle any retaliation.

It's a shame too, we were sitting on a huge stockpile of weapons and shields, we just didn't have all the people online to utilize it.

I understand. The only other player that was in my faction but wasn't a puppet got out safely, so, good work

I tried to balance out shields and nukes, and only played for a few hours. I also did my best to protect my countries from getting nuked. Only lost one to rabid asswipes.

Remain strategically insignificant so the nukes flew over my head and hit my neighbors instead. AKA the Canada approach.

I wound up running a fairly decent faction. The hardest part was getting people to cooperate, and organizing newcomers who were jumping on our bandwagon. Our "strategy" was pretty simple: Do what you're best at. Nuke others and avoid getting nuked.

Have strategic specialists mass shields and use them to shoot down anything incoming. Assuming competent organization at a faction-wide level, strategic specialists should never be doing anything but producing shields. Because of the relative opportunity costs, it is critical that strategic specialists avoid losing production to inactivity. Military specialists just need to mass nukes and launch them in volleys at designated targets.

Over time, military specialists can out-produce strategic specialists' shields, which makes offensive and retaliatory action a must. This also means that, during a direct war between factions, it makes more sense to focus on knocking out military specialists before focusing on strategic and economic ones (that is, counter-force rather than counter-value).

Economic specialists can be useful when protected and used effectively. Their main strength lies in acting as a flexible reserve. When on the defense, economic specialists assist in building and deploying shields, while military specialists focus on suppressing fire. When on the offensive, economic specialists help to out-produce the enemy's shields, and racking up points. Economic specialists do not need to be micromanaged as much as other specialists.
