The newly elected president of Spirit of Hope leaned back in his char contemplating what had happened over the last fifteen years. Fifteen years ago Spirit of Hope had been a monarchy, complete political power in the hands of the king, then the rebellion had begun. Many men had joined the revolution believing in the rhetoric of freedom for all men.
To say the least the ruling king had not been pleased with protesters that had begun demanding freedom, the king had ordered the army out in force to suppress the people. Then the protest had turned into outright rebellion. By the forth year of the conflict both sides had realized that their would be no peace until the other side was utterly destroyed.
A tipping point had been reached in the ninth year, the rebellion had begun to overtake and destroy the king’s forces. That year the king had ordered the release of chemical weapons on civilian targets that supported the rebellion. One year latter the rebellion retaliated by detonating an improvised nuclear weapon in the capital, killing the king and all of his heirs.
That single attack had broken the backs of the royalists. Over the last five years the revolution had solidified their position, and prepared a constitution to rule the new government. Three days ago elections had been held and the current president had been elected. Now the president faced the problem of fixing a war ravaged country.
The president sat up and looked at his Foreign Relations Secretary.
“Secretary, send a message to all nearby governments asking for recognition and help in restoring Spirit of Hope.”
