With Knowlandia's military manpower at 60 million (20% of the nations poulation) and a Defence budget surplus, Commander of Armies John Chong has issued an order last week to disband the nation police forces. They will be replaced with Army Personnel, and Police Stations will be refered to as Security Stations. There has been much outcry about this decision, especially from the nations 20 million police officers who have no choice but to reenlist in the military and hope to be assigned to Civil Protection positions, or look for work elsewhere. Many say this is just one more thing the Militarty Junta is doing to take power away from Provinces and Cities. The Department of Defence has issued the following statement
We have made the decision because it is a very logical choice right now. If the military controls local law enforcement, less manpower is needed and crime will surely go down. This frees up a massive amount of money for local governments, which can be better spent on education and healthcare.
The Knowlandian Defence force is expecting a 9% increase in mapower following this decision, as a result of laid off police officers reenlisting in the military.
