Derpedian Missile Defense Project Reaches Completion

The Republic of Derpeda, after taking the steps required through our acquisition of missiles, warheads, launching platforms and satellite systems legally and publicly would like to announce the completion of the Derpedian All Altittude Missile Interception Screen. AAMIS was designed with the purpose of protecting Derpeda from the numerous aggressor nations that have armed themselves with ballistic missiles capable of striking Derpedian soil.

We would like to outline to the international community the guidelines of the system's employment, and the armament details. Derpeda believes in sharing this information with the rest of the world to help and build trust, and to calm fears that AAMIS may be a system with aggressive ulterior motives.

Employment Guidelines

- in the event of immediate threat, the system shall be employed as soon as aggressor missile launch has been confirmed in both the defense and retaliation roll.
- in the event of high-level threat, it will be announced that the system is online and ready to be utilized in the preemptive strike role should the aggressor nation refuse to stand there own missile systems down.
- should Derpeda be invaded by forces via air, sea, or land, Derpeda reserves the right to defend and disable the silos, but will not utilize the system to retaliate.
- AAMIS shall not be used to blackmail non-nuclear nations into concession that otherwise would not have been granted via standard political means.
- all silos are open to international inspection as per any regulations instituted by the World Assembly, but only by W.A member nations.

The Derpedian Defense Department believes that these very modest numbers and medium level range shall reinforce the point the Derpeda is not aggressive with her nuclear policy. It was with courtesy and by no internationally-placed regulation that we announced this, and we hope that will be another factor that will prevent international outcry at this project's completion.

SUBJECT- Warning in regards to SLAMS Missile System

New Hayesalia neither commends or condems your nuclear program, however, if New Hayesalia recognising a launch that could be derogatory to the Island Republic of New Hayesalia, the SLAMS Missile System will see it shot down with no regrets or compensation. All tests dates and details are to be forwarded to the New Hayesalian Air Force.

The AAMIS system will also now have within it 6 missiles capable of international strike ( 4000 + km ) in range, but only one fully equipped with nuclear warheads. They are as follows, and were obtained via hardware exchange with the Republic of Ferkas:

- a single R-7 Semyorka ICMB, 4 warheads
- 5 R-12 Dvina ICMBs, without warheads

The missiles are to be utilized in the event a major nuclear power declares war upon the Republic. They are our only chance in retaliation and are humble when compared to the munitions of many other countries.

The AAMIS system has now been enhanced with the purchase of OS10 Static Sentry ICBM/SLBM Launch Detection Arrays. Three of these have been purchased, and are being integrated into the Derpedian national SKYCOM-1 system.

Multiple detection systems are needed to monitor the growing nuclear threat, and Derpeda is no slacker when it comes to it's defense.

History and Reasoning Behind the Construction of AAMIS and the Cv-X4 "Pilium", written by Colonel S.Mahoney

The Republic has finally completed the design of a new ICBM system, the Cv-X4 *Pilium*. It will be used to phase out the aging Cv-x1 missiles currently in service.

The Cv-X4 has been produced out of necessity to protect the Republic's boarders from a continually growing nuclear threat. This threat does not affect Derpeda alone. It is a global spanning arms-race between dozens of nations to consistently grab for power where ever these * aggressor nations* can find it. The Republic would not be intimidated by such maneuvers, first launching the proper satellites, then developing and purchasing missile assets and guidance apparatuses.

With the acquisition of the Cv-X1 Short Range Ballistic Missile, the Republic began pursuing other military applications of it's enriched-uranium factories being used for civilian power stations and reactors for the navy. After acquiring nuclear warheads from a nation mothballing it's stockpile, Derpedian scientists and engineers began work on reverse-engineering and improving the original warheads. This lead to the completion of the Derpedian AAMIS system once enough warheads were completed to fully arm the meager missile load-out that Derpeda possessed at the time.

The AAMIS system was announced globally, and all details about it's employment revealed to the nations of the world. The Derpedian government believed and continues to believe that transparency about this part of the greater Armed Forces is vital in international relation. It also separates Derpeda from the secretive * aggressor nations* that simply purchase warheads and missiles and hoard them, with no indication to the global community of reasoning or purpose.

The Republic slowly built up it's reserve of Cv-X1's producing a naval variant, and a smaller, conventional variant ( the Cv-x2a ) employed by mobile missile launchers and small naval craft. But nations nearby Derpeda built larger, more powerful missiles capable of atmospheric entry and independent targeting. The simple, triple-warhead design of the Cv-X1 no longer served the purpose of a SRBM, as such a role was futile against the array of Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles present against the AAMIS system. Retaliation was impossible, defense probable. But assurance had to be given to the United Chiefs of Staff that a strike on Derpedian soil would not come without consequences. So the military began working on a solution.

The first step was placing nuclear-armed Cv-x1's on board Derpedian Missile Battlecruisers and Super Missile Battlecruisers. It was hoped that a MBC abroad would be able to retaliate after receiving word of a nuclear strike on the Derpedian homeland. But this tactic relayed on luck, and the survival of certain ships of the Derpedian Grand Navy.

The team that armed the Cv-x1 with nuclear warheads was organized once again, this time given the task of designing a new, totally home produced ICBM with global extension, rapid deployment, and first-strike survivability. The team produced the prototype Cv-X3 "Lance", of which was tested within Derpedian soil in limited aspects so as not to come off as aggressive to Derpeda's bordering countries. Problems with the Cv-X3 were worked on, including that of the primary booster stage firing for to short a period of time reducing the missile's ability to enter the upper atmosphere.

With the rough edges smoothed out, the crack team of scientists and engineers prodcued for the Derpedian military the Cv-X4 "Pilium". Capable of strikes at ranges exceeding 14 000, the Pilium is the hallmark development in Derpedian missile technology. The primary boost stage elevates the rocket into the upper atmosphere, after a 4 minute launch phase. Then the Pilium begins a circular orbit of the planet, releasing decoys and disruptor to prevent anti-ICBM lock-on. During this phase, the second stage propels the MIRV along a pre-calculated flight path. After reaching the apex of the targeting sequence, the MIRV detaches from the second stage and begins the re-entry phase. Once within the lower atmosphere, the MIRV releases the warheads, which are propelled the final distance by previously locked-on boosters which acquired their targets during the orbital phase. 16 warheads are released by the MIRV, which eventually crashes harmlessly.

The strength of the blast is dictated by the equipped warheads, the weakest of which is 60 Kilotons and the most powerful 450 kilotons.

The role of the Cv-X4 is purely that of retaliation in accordance of the current AAMIS regulations. The Pilium will not be placed on foreign soil, utilized by the Navy, or sold to other nations regardless of alliance status.
