WA Ambassador Reprimanded
May face removal from office

Sources in the Ministry of State confirmed today that Gwaredd LLwyd, Embolalia's Ambassador to the World Assembly, was called to Caridd Monday to explain what is being described as "substandard conduct".

According to transcripts from the WA Ambassador's Office, LLwyd made impolite remarks to a number of other ambassadors while debating the Clean Water Act, which LLwyd himself wrote. In response to accusations that the bill would unintentionally bar the disposal of sewage, LLwyd accused two other ambassadors of not actually representing nations of the World Assembly. He then stated that "[the ambassadors] seriously misunderstand some pretty basic concepts here" and offered to "spell this out, nice and simple". He proceeded to explain the provision in question in a sarcastic and condescending tone.

LLwyd was later informed by the ambassadors that they do, in fact, represent WA member states. However, they were noted in the official record as representing non-member states in an observatory role. LLwyd stated that this oddity in the official record led him to make incorrect assumptions about the ambassadors. Following his remarks on that issue, another ambassador, who had not previously been involved, stood to speak against LLwyd's conduct, saying "In general the overtly obtuse and disrespectful conduct of the ambassador from Embolwhatever, combined with my existing reservations regarding this resolution, merits a vote in the negative from this delegation". Following this remark, Henrik Søgård, representing the Imperial Chiefdom of Krioval and the regional delegation of Antarctic Oasis, concurred with these remarks. Both ambassadors changed their vote against the proposal on the sole grounds that LLwyd's comments were inappropriate.

LLwyd, upon hearing this, immediately issued an apology, saying "I apologize for my conduct prior. In retrospect I believe I did not hold myself to my usual high standards of debate." Upon hearing of the appology, ambassador Søgård again changed his vote to be in favor.

LLwyd was asked to return to Caridd yesterday to explain his conduct to Minister of Foreign Affairs Kai Resal. In a statement to the press today, Minister Resal stated that, while unprofessional and improper, LLwyd's conduct is not grounds for his termination. Resal cited LLwyd's work on a previous resolution, which regulated the offshore oil drilling industry, and the usual positive nature of LLwyd's conduct.

The timing of LLwyd's outburst was unfortunate, said a source in the MFA. Embolalia is seeking to renew its term as Delegate for the International Democratic Union, and this conduct in the WA may taint the nation's reputation. However, the MFA is optimistic that the Delegate election will fall in Embolalia's favor, even with LLwyd's comments.

Clean Water Act Passes
Embolalian-authored proposal clears World Assembly

With a total tally of 4,117 votes to 1,556, the Clean Water Act passed in the World Assembly and became law this morning. The resolution, authored by Embolalian WA ambassador Gwaredd LLwyd, replaces an earlier resolution authored by the delegation from Pan Master that was repealed last June. The resolution requires member states to provide their citizens with enough potable water for their "healthy survival", establishes a bureau to dictate minimum standards of water quality, and prohibits the intentional contamination of water supplies.

The resolution is being seen as a possible redemption for Ambassador LLwyd, who had been widely criticized for his behavior in the Assembly during the debate on the proposal. LLwyd had been recalled to Caridd earlier in the week to answer for his behavior to Minister of Foreign Affairs Hai Resal. Sources close to Minister Resal say the passage of this act may be enough for LLwyd to keep his job. Sources also say that the Ministry hopes the passage of this act will help secure Embolalia the IDU Delegate position for another term, though this has not been confirmed.

The full text of the resolution can be found on the EBC website (http://news.ebc.emb/resources/802236), or at the World Assembly website (http://ga.wa/resolutions/107).
