Okay, I've given it some thought, so here's my character sheet.

Name: Karel Kloss

Age: Thirty years old

Occupation: Profiler and police officer working for the KND (Kleindyran National Defence, the equivalent of a police force)

Brief Bio and Description: Born and raised in Kleindyr, Karel has led a perfectly normal life. After his military service, he studied psychology at the university with a minor in criminology, and later joined the KND where he began working as a profiler. He chose to work for the KND because criminality rates are extremely high in Kleindyr and he wanted to contribute to making it a safer place to live. It's not really a vocation, more of a "I don't have anything better in mind, so I might as well do something useful" line of thought. His curiousity is his main drive ; he just has to get answers, no matter what. He doesn't have much of a personal life, his favoured companion being a tortoiseshell, mean-looking cat that tends to bite and claw any human being getting too close, including Karel himself. He lives alone, most of his (not so numerous) attempts at living together with someone else having met a dire end, either because of the aforementioned cat, or because of intrusive in-laws. Usually soft-spoken, he doesn't like to shout (or anyone who does) and dislikes loud noises in general.

Crime is a very big problem in Kleindyr, and the police forces have to deal with insufficient funds, a lack of modern techniques of investigation, and corruption. On the other hand, Brutland and Norden is pretty much a model of how things should be run, in the crime department. Therefore, it was decided to send Kleindyran police officers in order to study and learn Nord-Brutlandese techniques and methods, and to encourage a greater cooperation between both countries. Karel was picked to be in the exchange program because, having Nord-Brutlandese relatives, he speaks the language and knows the country.

Karel is about 1m73 (that would amount to 5'7 I think), stocky, with black hair and light brown eyes. Since he left the army he's been too lazy to keep himself in a good physical condition, so without being completely out of shape he isn't in top condition either. He doesn't like weapons, considering them inconvenient and useless more often than not, and tries to avoid carrying one whenever he can.

Note : That's a first draft, but I have no problem with changing it if there's anything you don't agree with. Let me know.

EDIT : Removed the part with the high official daughter.

They wouldn't be able to tell him anything about the specific crime (they're in jail in another country, so they wouldn't know), but can sort of give him nudges in the right direction. I understand that this could be a little tricky for a) you to work in to the plot as you've already thought most of it out and b) me to divide up ideas between my character and them. It might be easier for you to RP the Autesian serial killers, if there is space for them as a "clue dispensation" method. If this isn't possible for whatever reason then no problem :)

Well, it's up to you to RP your own serial killers, but certainly they won't have any connection with the SK running around (or rather riding around) in K'ville. It can be a good discussion of ideas. But I'll leave it to you. ;)

Usually soft-spoken, he doesn't like to shout (or anyone who does) and dislikes loud noises in general.

He read about the Underground Killings case in the newspapers, but had no interest in them until recently. Unfortunately, it so happened that one of the victims was the daughter of a Kleindyran high official. Needless to say, the high official in question kicked up a big fuss. The Kleindyran authorities requested they be permitted to send one of their own officers to assist with the investigation. They also reserved the right to request the extradition of the killer once he was caught. Karel was sent because, having Nord-Brutlandese relatives, he speaks the language and knows the country.

Karel is about 1m73 (that would amount to 5'7 I think), stocky, with black hair, light brown eyes, and a vandyck. Since he left the army he's been too lazy to keep himself in a good physical condition, so without being completely out of shape he isn't in top condition either. He doesn't like weapons, considering them inconvenient and useless more often than not, and tries to avoid carrying one whenever he can.

Hmmm, let me see. Like what I said to Weltmachtistan, the victims (and their identities) are under my control, so I will have to work the high officials daughter into the plot. Thing is, I have no space yet for a woman in the victim list, and she'd most likely come later (seventh, eighth on the list?). In addition, the idea of "serial killer" won't come out in the newspapers until four, five killings later, so if that would be the raison d'être as to why he'd be sent to the country in the first place, he'd have to come really, really late. :o So, you'd have to get a reason to enter the country early... like an "exchange cop program". ;)

Nevertheless, I found your application very good. :) Just a little tweaking, and you're good to go! ;)

Thanks !

Well, I did the high official daughter thing mainly because I wanted to do something more original than exchange cop, since there's already someone doing that, but it doesn't really matter. My character can just be a normal exchange cop, sent to Brutland and Norden as part of a program to improve relations and cooperation between both countries.

I'm at work right now (best hope my boss doesn't check on me within the next five minutes) but I'll update my profile this afternoon and have a look at the IC thread.

Posteed. Brut, I hope you don't mind my writing the DIO chief's dialogue; I didn't really put in anything character-altering, and playing post ping-pong on a small chat of minimal importance seems unneccessary to me.
Important Government figures (MT):
King: Malcier IV
Heir Apparent: Prince Kayle
Prime Minister: Pieter Marcyr
Foreign Minister: Charlotte Helyvyr
Chancellor: Malcolm Griehn
Grand Master of the Order of the Just Sword (Autesian Armed Forces): Granth Malechyr
Grand Master of the Order of the Level Hand (Autesian police force): Kherys Paenderhar
Grand Master of the Order of the Mindful Eye (Autesian Secret Services): Gaulan Cheffre

Oh, nicknames, I'm totally in favour of nicknames ! Although "Brut" in my language means, uh... oh, never mind.

Updated my character sheet to remove the part about the high official daughter, and sent first post in the IC thread. Good work on the description of our surroundings, Brut' ! The whole post about Brutland and Norden was very interesting to read. The layout of the underground reminds me a little of the Manhattan metro, is that on purpose ?

I suppose Nord-Brutlandese is like Italian ? (of course, you had to pick a language I don't speak :p )

Anyway, I think this game is going to be fun !

AHHHHHH!!!!!!! Am I too late?!?!?!
Name: Hin-Shi-Park
Age:25
Occupation:Prosecuter
Brief Bio and Description:
Description:
Ethnicity:Korean
Height: 164 cm
Picture:
Bio: The only child of his parents who remain unknown (they were supposedly killed in a bombing run) Park was raised in an orphanage and developed a cold and calculating personality. Born in the nation of Sensal before the time of the Republic, Park was considered a child prodigy being accepted into the Sensal National University (Best University in Sensal), but was born into a unkwon social stnading. Due to this lesser social standing, Park was refused entry into the National Institute of Alchemy since at the time only nobles were admitted into this elite school. Refused entry to the school, he decided to take up his parents' proffesion as a crimanal prosecuter. When the King was disposed of, instead of applying for the Institute of Alchemy, Park decided to stick with his profession he was trained in instead of going for his dream. During his 7 years as a prosecuter (Park finished law school at the age of 18 and was hired by the Republic immediately) Park is credited with bringing a lot of crimanals to justice. After an attempt on his life by a mob gang, Park decided it was time he learned to defend himself. Learing Tae-Kwon-Do from a master (who shall remain unnamed) and is currently a 2nd degree black belt.

Maybe the prosecuter can be at the crime scene looking for some evidence or something and gets caught up in the madmans plans...

Oh, goodie, the more the merrier !

So Park is his first name ?

If his parents remain unknown, how do they know they were from a middle-class family ?

If he brought five thousand criminals to justice un seven years, that makes it approximatively two criminals a day, assuming he works on week-ends and never takes a holiday, and without counting the trials of people who end up cleared of charges and cannot therefore be counted as "criminals". Bit of a workaholic, or what ? :p

While I wholeheartedly agree about that, there is a thin line between hastening the plot and godmodding. I certainly view this RP as an RP and a collaborative writing experience, be careful with that.

Anyway, Nord-Brutlandese (see this page, though I had not updated it in years). It was supposed to look like Italian but no it isn't. Totally unrelated syntax and grammar, but with macerated Italian words.

I have a model of Kingsville in Sim City 4, and it has a metro system, so I made a map for it, just for fun. That is that map. Then I had an RP idea for it. TBH, I had been thinking about this for years and some of the posts have been laying dormant and gathering cobwebs in my computer and at the back of my mind... until now!

Nah, it's not a curseword, nothing really bad. But according to my dictionary it can be translated as "gross, crude". Also it sounds the same as the word for "bully, ruffian" (same pronounciation, different orthograph). But I think I can manage not to snicker every time I use it. (Besides, it's not like I'm in a position to say anything, considering that "Klein" means "small" in German...) :p

I do have a few years of RPing under my belt, but I'm used to playing with always the same rules and the same group of people, so this is going to be a change. And it's my first RP in English too. Just to say I'm likely to make mistakes, but we all strive to improve !

Yeah, it shows that you've been thinking about this for a while. It all feels very real, just like a real city. The description kind of looked like the wikipedia page for a real city ;) Good thing all this material can finally be put to good use !

EDIT : Have just been to see that page about Nord-Brutlandese. Goodness, you've really thought this out, haven't you ? It's very impressive. Do you speak Italian ?

Hum, 3000 criminals in seven years, let's see...
Seven years equal to 2555 days. That makes it 1,17 criminals a day, without taking holidays or week-ends, and still not counting people who end up cleared of charges. Talk about expeditive justice :lol2:

Sorry, I just like nitpicking. But seriously, a trial usually takes more than one day (well, depends in which country, but you see what I mean). Park can be a genius all he wants, but that won't make the trials go any faster (yes, the evil of bureaucracy, procedures, red tape and paperwork). Assuming that Park doesn't take much holiday, he'd be working, say, around 250 days a year at most (since we're not counting the week-ends, and those amount to 104 days a year, give or take). That makes it 1500 days in seven years, so a reasonable number of criminals brought to justice would be closer to five, six hundred. That's still a lot, mind you.

[OOC: I hope you don't mind this type of investigator, I'll delete the post if you don't want him in the RP]

Name: Emmanuel 'Manny' Wilkes
Age: 29
Occupation: Private Detective
Brief Bio and Description: Emmanuel Wilkes grew up in a wealthy family that lived just outside New Berlin. When he was a teen, he loved to solve mysteries and shoot guns on his father's massive property, becoming the town's marksmanship champion with his FN-FGR rifle. When he was conscripted into the Army, like every Cazatanian of eighteen years, he excelled at solving problems incredibly quickly and was of course natural with a firearm. He was offered an officers commission, but he declined in favor of working as a Military Detective. He solved at least a dozen crimes during his first year in service, and was awarded the Distinguished Service medal for gallantry. When British Londinium invaded Cazatania in 2007, 'Manny' was transferred to a front-line infantry unit, where he fought in Mortun before retreating back to New Berlin. When the Cazatanian government surrendered, he fled to Greal and worked for a private firm, solving several murder cases during the two years away from his homeland. When the occupation ended, he returned to Cazatania and worked as an independent detective up until 2015, when he joined Investigative Services Incorporated, a private criminal investigation company that mostly worked for the Cazatanian government. Manny learned of the 'Underground killings' when it was brought up by a fellow Private Investigator during a coffee break. He took interest in the seemingly strange murders, and decided to investigate, even if he wasn't going to get payed to do so.

Sample RP: Since most of my RPs were on Jolt, I'll give you my most recent RP. You should be able to find my post somewhere down there.

It's a good idea to bring a PI in the story. It's up to Brut 'course, but personally, I rather like your character.

So do you want me to edit my post and just cut off the end to let you RP the rest of the conversation, or should I just add more conversation?

Learing Tae-Kwon-Do from a master (who shall remain unnamed) and is currently a 2nd degree black belt.

Sorry 'bout the delay, I had to turn in a report today and spent the entire yesterday making it. :? Anyway, that'll give y'all a preview of how busy I can become, so when the "busy time" comes (heck, it's looming on the horizon!) Because of my work/study schedule, during those "busy times" I may be able to post every two (or three) days or so. :meh:

Brutland and Norden wrote:Thanks. You can call me Kyle if Brut means something obscene in your language. I suppose that's not a curseword, is it?

And nice opening post too, perhaps you might have been a seasoned RPer, but I think RPing by mail and by forum is essentially the same, it's all written words!

(Besides, it's not like I'm in a position to say anything, considering that "Klein" means "small" in German...)

The description kind of looked like the wikipedia page for a real city Good thing all this material can finally be put to good use !

EDIT : Have just been to see that page about Nord-Brutlandese. Goodness, you've really thought this out, haven't you ? It's very impressive. Do you speak Italian ?

I'm not a native English speaker too, but I've been learning the language since I was a kid. As for Italian, I don't really speak/read/write/understand it. Most of my knowledge of it comes from Wikipedia and a good English-Italian dictionary. My love of the Italian language comes from my love of pasta, pizza, and mozzarella cheese, and the rest of the Italian food. Mmmmm. Now my stomach grumbles.

Ha! I know you from the jolt days. Hmmm. Accepted; but then the news about the killings in the Underground* won't really come out until later, after the RPers establish a link between them and the relatively docile and non-sensationalist Nord-Brutlandese media picks it up. So your character would come in later; unless you have a reason to be in Kingsville in the first place (like, being a tourist! )

* Which is really a misnomer, as most of the killings did not really happen in the Underground, it was just a dumping ground for corpses. :o Ooops, I dropped a hint. Damn.

Autesia wrote:So do you want me to edit my post and just cut off the end to let you RP the rest of the conversation, or should I just add more conversation?

The first choice. I hadn't made it really clear, the "exchange cops" will be meeting the Chief and each other, so we should wait for the others to arrive. He immediately went out. That gave me a dead end on how to continue.

Provisionally accepted, still needing the reason why he'd be in Brutland and Norden in the first place.

I'll be posting in the IC thread within 3-4 hours or so. Also, I'll stop accepting people for now. I'll TG everyone who posted here tonight to inform them of that we are up and running; but I'd give them posts to reply to first. If we'd have a vacancy, then I might accept an applicant or two. ;)

Update Post!
Just so as everyone would know which of the posts are intended for them:

The "exchange cops": Klein, TQP, Aut and DQ; post #2, second part is for y'all. Aut and Klein had responded, you can keep up; last post for that scene is post #8. (But I'll post a reply for that later.)

For the "native cops", Kaz and Welt, post #7, second part is for you. Kaz, you can take the lead as the lead homicide investigator for the 7th of September case; and Welt, that is your character's kid. (took liberty in giving the name, though) The precinct captain is calling you ICly and will guide you guys OOCly. Welt, start getting angry.

Caz* with a C, you can start anytime, but take note that this hadn't been reported yet in the media... too early. ;)

Sens^, we're waiting for the amendments to your application. :)

That might be the case, we've had no news from several players... Yes, I do know that not everyone has a lot of time to devote to RPGs :) Still, it's been a few days.

Anyway, I'll wait a little while before posting a reply, I don't want to flood. I'll definitely post a reply before going to bed, within the next 3-4 hours at most.

And I know I've said it already, but I'm loving it so far.
