She shrugs. “I am not very longwinded, my friend. But da, Xofrauten. We went during its famine and were able to smuggle our way out during the blockade.”

“It was one hell of an awful situation, Xofrauten. Although, funnily enough, that 400 ship blockade that was thrown together in less than a week is a pretty big reason that the ISD was founded. We were cooperating with units of the Federation of Nation M, and were locked out. The people there are still starving to this day, because of that insufferable act.”
“It was then that we decided that we needed some method, as smaller nations, to stand up to mega-alliances.”
“Granted, we have all since become far more powerful than we had been at Xofrauten.”

Just then, the restaurant owner returns, holding some plates of food, and a bowl of soup. “Here you go!” He says, handing out the tasty food to each of the three people at the table “I hope you enjoy.”

“I am glad we were able to cut through falsehoods and rumors about our alliance.” Ana says, and then smiles as the food arrives. “Ah! Perfect!” She says in happiness as she begins eating, rather quickly.

Ilain wipes her mouth, and sets down her spoon.
“It’s about… having agency. About how, you not only control how the restaurant is operated - you don’t just do so on someone else’s behalf - you do so for yourself. That you… care for a place, so much, and can be in a place where you do not have to rely on anyone else.”
“The illusion of control, in a sense, satisfied.”

“Well, it does vary from culture to culture. I’m perfectly happy with the fact I do not own my house, or my car. But we’re equal, we have our needs taken care for and nothing to envy. If there’s no self-fulfilment here, then there’s not either jealousy. I guess it’s a different mindset.”

Ilain takes a sip of the tomato soup.
“And yet, we aren’t killing each other over it.”
