Oakmouth, Communist Oldwitch.
It had been years since the event in question. There was not even a current Communal Union of speak of; it was now a small area under PUF occupation to the West of the Ice States, whose border with, as it was called now, Communist Oldwitch, was now composed of a large demilitarised zone. Peace had been largely made between Communist Oldwitch and The Ice States, after the latter showed the futility of the war after a failed biological strike on the former resulted in the conversion of a large number of residents of Communist Oldwitch, The Ice States, and other neighbouring nations into an ogre-like species, apparently an ancient race of Orcana originating from the Sea of Faith.
However, even if it had been many years, there was no statute of limitations in this case. The Communal Union, at least allegedly, had violated World Assembly law. And the violation it was suspected of was very serious, that of funding wars of conquest. The nation had, in fact, funded the war in Varathron between Fortress Automailia and the Ordenstaat; a war which the World Assembly had even condemned as a "war of aggression", via SC #458, a resolution authored by an Ice human rights agency at the time. The purpose of this was, to be clear, was to weaken both sides and distract the truly evil powers from even the existence of the Communal Union; but at the cost of human lives in Varathron. Ultimately, the actions of the Communal Union were coming back to bite it.
The new regime in the Ice States was not a World Assembly member, but nonetheless its cultural, even if not political, ties with Communist Oldwitch were still significant. The damage it would cause to the Ice States, and by extension the Eternal Union -- whose bona fide relations with the Ordenites were only getting stronger -- from the revelation of the Communal Union's funding of the Varathron war would still be significant. The Unified Authority -- or particularly Fortress Automailia -- had now begun to leak this information to a number of media outlets with the hope that it be published and harm the Eternal Union which was only getting closer to the Authority's mortal enemy. Reasonably, Ice media outlets were hesistant to publish the information directly -- there would be a great reputational damage suffered by the Ice States should the information get out. However it was too late -- media outlets, not even necessarily Ice ones, which had been given access to the leaks, further leaked the information to the WACC.
Why? Perhaps it was a rogue staffer, or perhaps even to create even further drama to report on, but ultimately that was irrelevant. Frankly, Communist Oldwitch would not exist for much longer as the news came out, even if is purely the result of consequences from other neighbouring nations; but also the imminent trial from the WACC. Indeed, the WACC had received much information on the subject, even with the previous attempts of the Communal Union to keep the matter secret and public access to information on it minimal; ultimately the evidence given to the Unified Authority was out of Ice hands. The evidence ranged from documents confirming the items to be transferred, from steel to white phosphorus used to bomb the Mayireni River; to end-user certificates; and even a video film collected by Replicants in the Ice States showing the full transfer of a package of raw materials to Automailia. Similar evidence, too, had been compiled for the transfer of materials to the Ordenites.
"In the event that we are put on trial by the Compliance Commission, we will be represented by our Chief Prosecutor-turned-Deputy WA Ambassador, Johan Bessemer, " spoke the Oldwitch leader.
Now it was on the Compliance Commission to commence the procedure. The procedure to find out whether these materials, this aid, was in fact weaponry or ammunition the Communal Union transferred despite there being "reasonable evidence to suggest they will be used to aid the party conducting a war of conquest". The procedure which would at least contribute to deciding the future, or lack of one, for Communist Oldwitch...
