Bienvenidos a la República Acayana!
Exceptional circumstances have forced us to think outside the box and, as the Overseer, it was decided that my home nation will host the 70th World Hit Festival in the Pearl of the Caribbean, the Signorial City, the Caribbean Colossus, the city of Corola! With more than two million people in the city proper and five million in the metropolitan area, this city is magical, vibrant, dangerous, sexy, and beautiful at the same time! Enjoy the thrill and amazement that Corola offers as we honor seventy editions filled with magical entries, wonderful songs, and the warmth and dedication of the Corolanos that live here. The World Hit Festival has been a competition filled with changes and contrasts, and we want to celebrate a valuable opportunity to honor seventy contests, and hope for seventy more! We wish you all good luck, Buena suerte, and enjoy the show!

Tamar de Andrade
World Hit Festival Overseer

What is the World Hit Festival?
The World Hit Festival (WHF) is a multiversal song competition. Each nation shall enter 1 song and 1 artist, and it shall be 'performed' via roleplay. Most nations tend to use a real-life tune as a musical backing, but every entry submitted to the World Hit Festival is required to have original lyrics (ie. if you submit a tune, you must re-write the lyrics), so this does mean that instrumental entries are blocked from entering the contest.

WHF operates with three threads, the OOC, Draft, and IC threads. The one you are seeing now is the OOC/Sign-ups thread, the main place for you to discuss the contest, reveal your entrant, etc. All OOC chatter goes here. The Draft Thread, opened by the host, is the second thread opened up during a WHF contest, and this draft thread is where nations will post and work on their entries until a deadline determined by the host. The IC thread, also opened by the host is the third and final thread attached to a WHF, and it is where the host will transfer your entries. In order to see how the whole thing works, feel free to explore the previous competition in Beepee, linked above, which will also allow you to get a feel for the contest and what is required.

The World Hit Festival has had a very long history in NationStates, and a thread by the second overseer (Euskirribakondara) has been created to compile part of this long history. Click here for a thread with links to every OOC and IC thread of all World Hit Festivals so far (updated to WHF53).

You can also review the reserved songs for the World Hit Festival here!

Click this for a statistical database of all WHF participants (updated to WHF65). For winners, click here to see a full list of all WHF winners with links to their entries (OUTDATED)

*A SHOUT OUT* to Achaean Republic for compiling a Spotify playlist of the winners of the World Hit Festival, which can be found here

Below you can find the rules of the 69th World Hit Festival!

Rules and Regulations...
ENTRIES
  1. For an entry to be accepted, must have one of either at least some staging directions [i]orsuitable background role play. ‘At least some staging directions’ is to be defined as anything more than 3 sentences of RP to accompany the entry. Cases that are on the borderline will be accepted or rejected at the discretion of the Host and the Overseer.' ‘Suitable background role play’ is to be defined as at least 5 sentences of background to the entry. The right to reject an entry according to this criterium is reserved by the Host and the Overseer. More generally, feel free to consult the Acceptable Entry Standards for the World Hit Festival
  2. All or at least most of the written lyrics must be original. Should any user spot any concerns, don't hesitate to let the overseer or current host know.
  3. In order for Semi-Finals to be initiated, there must be enough nations for there to be 13 nations per Semi Final. The number of participants before Semi Finals are initiated will be dependent on circumstances.
  4. The maximum amount of nations that can participate without more than one automatic qualifier (ie the host) is 18 nations per Semi-Final. Once this number has been broken, the top 6 (including the host) will automatically qualify to reduce 18 nations to 15 in each Semi.

CONTEST
  1. A nation is allowed to submit 1 puppet maximum to the contest, meaning that a user can be controlled at most 2 nations in the contest.
  2. Users must send a full ranking of all nations on the IC Thread to the host of the competition when the voting opens. If users usually split their rankings across multiple participating nations (master and at least one puppet), they are free to provide only one ranking - provided it directly aligns with how many points given out across the user's participating nations. Otherwise, the user must send a ranking per participating nation they own. Rankings should not be displayed by any given user until after the Festival has been completed.
  3. The nation ranked first will receive 5 points, the nation ranked second will receive 4 points etc. Nations ranked 6th or below will not receive any points.
  4. When participating with multiple nations, users can only give themselves 5 points maximum across both nations, and a maximum of 3 to one (that is to say, a maximum of 3 to one and 2 to the other). Votes will not be accepted if users give themselves, across both of their nations, more than 5 points, or more than 3 points to one.
  5. In the event of a tie, the countback system goes as follows: Amount of nations - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 - 6th places, 7th places etc.

HOSTING
  1. The winner of the competition will automatically be given the right to host the competition. The winner will be contacted by the Overseer to ask if they want to take up the role.
  2. The host can reveal they will host the World Hit Festival after talks with the Overseer on when to do this.
  3. If the host either doesn't announce their interest in hosting the proceeding contest or declines hosting rights, usual procedure is that the nation who came 2nd will be asked and so on until it reaches the Overseer. The Overseer can give hosting responsibilities to a user placed below them if they are willing to host, and the Overseer also reserves the ability to choose an alternative host.
  4. If the host abandons their host duties, the World Hit Overseer will be responsible for what left needs to be done.
  5. We would like to ensure all World Hit Festival hosts can host the competition to the best of their ability. If you have any concerns about hosting if given the opportunity to, don't hesitate to speak to the World Hit Overseer.

The Chevrolet Hall will become the main venue for the 70th World Hit Festival. Built in 2010 and renovated in 2022 to make the building carbon-neutral and sustainable, Chevrolet Hall has hosted numerous local and international artists, including Bad Bunny, Billy Joel, Britney Spears, Ana Viktoreena, and many more. With a capacity of 23,000 in the main venue, the Chevrolet Hall is the largest indoor venue in the Achaean Republic—but based on the green room and stage design alongside safety issues, 19,000 will be allowed in the main venue.

Created through a partnership between the Achaean architectural firm Benítez & Associates and students from the Pontifical University of Corola, the stage features simple square and rectangular LED designs that cover the stage. The five pillars in the back of the stage feature LED screens with more than 1.5 million colors and typify the storied Corola skyline and skyscrapers. The stage also uses 214 Solaris Flares from American LED company 214 flares, a rotating LED design, a flexible-transparent projection screen, and typical show fixtures like fog, water, fireworks, regular fire, and light.

The two hosts have roots in Corola’s pop, dance, and art scene, and are ready to show that they can sing, dance, entertain, and have a fun and spicy time with the Multiverse!

Francheska “Mannamma” González is a controversial figure. A popular DJ, dancer, and singer, she is well known for her divisive antics, her wicked sense of humor, her pointless Twitter fights and the antics she worked alongside her long-time boo Lewis Capelle in the popular reality show Fran & Lewis. A lifelong Corolana, she knows the beat of this city like the back of her hand…or breast…or fist.

P.P. Galore (birth name: Tomás Pérez Jiménez) represented the Achaean Republic in WorldVision Song Contests 77 with Sabrosa and 92 with Sonar, achieving third place in the competition. She is also one of the country’s most popular drag performers, hosting every edition of Drag Race Acaya and being slated as one of the contestants for Season Three of Queen of the Universe. She represents the vibrancy and diversity of the Corola LGBTQ+ scene, and will become the first drag queen to host the World Hit Festival!

The Live Allocation Draw will take place in the grounds of the Corola Contemporary Art Museum (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo), a space crafted to celebrate the Achaean Republic’s and Caribbean’s contributions in art, music, and design. Inaugurated in 1988 and renovated in 2018, the MACC hosted numerous international exhibitions from renowned artists and has served as the background for films and music videos. The MACC also hosts the largest collection of Fabergé eggs in the Caribbean, as well as a prestigious Jewish-Achaean cultural embroidery collection and regional mundillo handcrafted bobbin laces from Southern Achaea.

About Corola

Postby Achaean Republic » Sun Jul 23, 2023 5:27 pm

History

Corola was founded by Spanish settlers leaving Mexico on December 12, 1533, two years after the miracle of the Virgin of the Guadalupe happened in Technochitlán—hence, the official name, Guadalupe de Corola. Corola was named after the petals of a flower, its design embedded on the rivers that cross the city, such as the Guadalupana, the Ozama, and the Mies. As the city grew, its slightly arid terrain and mountainous cover isolated Corola from the rest of colonial Achaea and its capital in Candelaria, but it also developed a unique culture regarding trade and piracy. This is why many fortifications exist throughout its borders, such as the Fuerte San Cristóbal, the Fuerte Santa Justa, and the Fortín Campeche, which housed many of the slaves’ barracks that later became barriadas, favelas, or special communities in the coming centuries.

It wasn’t until the Revolutionary Era that Corola became prominent as the capital of the Achaean Republic in 1795 after Candelaria was razed to the ground by Spanish Crown loyalists, given the isolation and mountainous terrain to reach the south of the island. Over time, Corola grew to become the country’s largest city and its largest port of call for immigration, receiving over one-third of all immigrants to the island in the 18th and early 19th centuries. Also, numerous syncretic dances and criollo musical styles were developed in the city, such as danza, plena, and even reggaeton (imported from Puerto Rico) and dembow (imported from the Dominican Republic). The iconic Corola Creole style also developed in its traditional colonial barrios, mixing the Spanish Colonial and Italianate styles and adapting those into the Caribbean. French expats and immigrants also brought the Beaux Arts movement to Corola’s streets, making the city a Caribbean hub of culture, art, and entertainment—including the legendary red-light district at Santa Ifigenia, now transformed into a neo-industrial artistic hub. The fact that Corola was left relatively unscathed during the Achaean Civil War also helped the city grow to its unmatched potential.

However, the city suffered a tremendous blow in 1927 when the capital was changed to a swampy marshland called the District of Muñíz after the current president at the time, ostensibly to avoid the overcrowding that introduced many diseases to the city, but alleged to involve political disputes over the city’s corrupt town-hall party system (imported from the United States). However, you can travel nowadays to the Federal District in a thirty-minute drive, creating the country’s largest metropolitan area in which one-fifth of the city lives in. The city was also affected by the Subialta dictatorship and the Coup of the Eagles, where US military forces invaded the Achaean Republic through Corola. This caused a major siege that lasted from 1946 to 1949, culminating with the Constitution of 1950 and the expulsion of US forces from the country.

In the post-coup years, Corola became a center for Achaean emigration through its diaspora, its remittances permitting an extraordinary amount of progress and having more than 5 million Achaean descendants abroad. It also served as a postcard of Caribbean ingenuity, slowly ballooning to become the third-largest city in the insular Caribbean after Havana—which, incidentally, many Cubans left after the Revolution to take major industries and adapt themselves to the fabric of the bucolic city.
Today, Corola is an international city, a melting pot of the Caribbean. You can find Cubans, Asians, Arabs, Venezuelans, Spaniards, Americans, Portuguese, West Indians, West Africans, tourists, and many more in numerous city blocks. The dangerous barriadas surrounding the city also have warm and musical people carrying a legacy of delicious food and seductive beats. It is also a cosmopolitan city, open to receive many from all faiths and walks of life, and has become the center of numerous events in the Achaean history beyond its traditional barrios.

Getting Around Corola

Most people come to Corola through its two main airports: Guadalupana International Airport (GIA) on the city of Guadalupana to the west of Corola, and Corola International Airport (COR), shared between Corola, La Izquierda, and La Cañada. Guadalupana focuses on destinations in North and South America and the Caribbean, while Corola International serves European, Asian, and African flights.

There are numerous transportation options in Corola. All major public transport services are served by SITUC, an entity that manages the Corola Metropolitan Area transport system. Through the use of a LioCard, you can seamlessly breeze through buses, metro, light rail, and ferries with speed and convenience. Rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft are also available, but most tourists use the Metro or take a bus to Downtown. At the same time, hotels are located throughout the main venues for all regions of the city with seamless access.
