Investigation Into Marx Airbase Crash Reveals Far Deeper Military Corruption
Promised Military Upgrade Plan Hampered by Favortism, Backroom Deals
The inital findings of the National Aviation Guild's investigation into the crash of an F-16 at Marx Airbase in Protecta Nova on Tuesday were released today, with an opening paragraph calling the findings "extremely disturbing" and recommending an escalation to a full-blown Department of Justice investigation. In the report, it was found that the F-16 in question had not receieved matinence in three years, and that this was the case for many of the planes on base. This was attributed to a critical lack of the required parts for matinence.
When investigating further, the Aviation Guild found that other bases had been receiving parts and even some newer planes as scheduled. When it was found that many of these bases were in rural areas, Chairwoman Eliza Mann's largest areas of electoral support, the Guild enlisted the help of HawkWatch, a military watchdog organization, to further look into the issue.
HawkWatch found that many of these bases had deals with the government for support that other bases did not. In addition, many of the officers involved in the deals were personal friends of the Chairwoman, dating back to the Revolution. The report ended with another call for a DoJ investigation.
Within hours of the report, several officers implicated in the report have resigned, and members of Congress are reportedly considering a Vote of No Confidence in Chairwoman Mann. In a press release, Mann claimed the report was falsified, calling it "a completely fabricated character assassination piece". Several government watchdogs reacted to this statement with alarm, calling for citizens to take to the streets in case of an escalation to a political crisis.
