Andrews Government Announces Tax and Welfare Changes
Image

This new year might affect your wallet. The Andrews government has announced a number of changes to tax and welfare in Atlanticatia. The unemployment benefit fund is on course to record a small deficit unless taxes rise, the government has said. This is in addition to a number of a new spending plans that the Government has announced already. "The Government is going to have to raise taxes to maintain a strong unemployment benefit system and ensure it can invest in welfare and public services," a spokeswoman for Andrews said on Sunday.
The social insurance contribution is going to rise by one-half of a percent, the Government has said. Currently, employees pay three percent of their income for the social contribution, while employers pay 17%. "We have to raise social insurance to ensure that the unemployment benefit system does not go into deficit," Victoria Andrews said. "If that happens, the government would have to grant the unemployment insurance fund central funding, which we'd like to avoid."
Many pundits have been unsure which course of action the Government would take to deal with the unemployment benefit system. Currently, people can receive 80% of their previous wages for up to 3 years. Some people have claimed that there is a split in the government coalition, comprised of the Social Democrats, Labour, and the Liberals. A backbencher Liberal, Annie Cook, recently claimed that "the government should reduce the maximum time on unemployment benefits to two years." Party leadership later denied this, claiming that "the Coalition has a unified stance: we will not cut unemployment benefits." This led pundits to speculate out about a divide in the Coalition.
Opinion polls are divided on whether or not the unemployment benefit system is too generous, with 40% claiming that 'being on unemployment benefits is too easy'. "This Social Democrat coalition has been far too generous to the unemployed," the leader of the Conservative opposition party has argued. "If someone stays unemployed for 3 years and receives the maximum amount, $923 per week, they cost the unemployment benefit fund more than $140,000."
However, it seems like the government will be solving the problem with a rise in taxes, and no cuts to spending.

Opinion polls are still strong for the government, though. 58% of people said they 'thought the Coalition was doing a good job'.

The government has also announced more spending on welfare. Child benefit, currently $70 per week, will be increasing by 10% to $77 per week. The currently lower amount that parents receive for additional children will also be equalised with the first child's rate. Large families with more than one child will see the biggest gains - for families with 3 children, this is worth an extra $2,132 per year. "We believe that ensuring every child can thrive is important," a spokesperson for the Social Democrats has said. "This is why we're ending the discrimination against large families and increasing child benefit for everyone." The increase for child benefit is going to cost about $11bn a year, according to the Treasury.

The government plans to fund the new spending on another tax rise. They plan to increase the VAT charged on books, which is currently at a reduced rate of 8%. They also plan to tax wealthier households more, placing a cap on the amount of property tax relief wealthy people can get when they pay wealth tax. Currently, people can deduct the property tax they've already paid from their wealth tax liability. The government plans to cap property tax relief at $10,000 - which is what is paid on a property worth $2.625 million.
"When is enough going to be enough?", exclaimed the leader of the Conservative opposition on a conservative news channel recently. "All the social democrats do is tax and spend on welfare! Social spending has risen to more than $800 billion under the Coalition."

Unemployment Falls as Economy Benefits from Holiday Spending
Image

Unemployment has fallen again, with businesses benefiting from high consumer spending over the holidays. "Holiday spending is up 10% from last year," a spokesperson for the Economic Indicator Thinktank has said.

The unemployment rate fell to 2.8% in Q4. "This government promised full employment, and we are getting closer and closer every day to that goal," said Prime Minister Victoria Andrews. "I will not rest until unemployment falls below two percent."

Many business leaders are worried about the side effects of this extremely low unemployment rate, with the Chamber of Commerce releasing a statement that said "A shortage of available labour could mean rising inflation and too much pressure on wages." When the ABC asked PM Andrews' office for a comment on the Chamber's statement about the unemployment rate, "The Coalition is sorry if the fat cats are worried they might have to pay workers a bit more. That's the beauty of the market economy, right?" the leading spokesperson for the Coalition has said.

PARLIAMENT UNVEILS PLANS FOR NEW CENSORSHIP LEGISLATION
Artists and Activists Worry About Impending Regulation, 6 Iânuar 2015

Alaricstead — Artists, writers, musicians, and political activists are shifting nervously today in Bastarneia as the parliament, headed by Chancellor Balaur, revealed a new piece of potential legislation that could be devastating to the creative elements of the Bastarneian nation. The proposal, raised by MP Timofei Vulg (Leov Province) last Friday, would make mandatory for all published works to be reviewed by a board of individuals to be appointed by the parliament before being released to the Bastarneian public, so that works considered to be "sacrilegious," "unpatriotic," "antisocial," or "otherwise undesirable" may be kept from circulation.

While no confirmation can be had yet, this appears to be a highly targeted piece of legislation centered at a particular band of musicians from the JAR — a Yiddish-language heavy metal band called הייליקע הור (Yid: "Holy Wh*re"), known for its highly offensive lyrical content and shocking over-the-top showmanship, whose recent popularity with youths in the JAR in the tail end of 2014 has caused uproar with local rabbis and conservatives, who have called for legislative measures to combat them.

Most troubling of all, perhaps, are the attitudes of key figures in the Bastarneian government towards this bit of legislation. Though it is still early to jump to conclusions, it is not too soon for those figures who are opposed to have spoken out, nor have those voices in Parliament who approve held their silence. In a press conference Friday evening, Chancellor Balaur issued the following statement, which, while not explicitly supporting the legislation, does not dismiss it:

"The Rabbis and the Elders of the JAR are the leaders of the communities there. It's no big secret, no question, that the JAR exists as a cultural nation-state, and therefor should its leaders have the right to [...] regulate the culture of the populace, so that their common heritage is not lost. It is in the best interest of the Bastarneian parliament to extend our reach in order to aid in this goal."

The legislation will be up for discussion in Parliament until Wednesday, 21 January. Parliament will then vote upon it on Friday, 23 January. As you can imagine, we'll be following this one closely.

Choice For Chairpenguin Down To 2

Image Image
Candidates: Chilly Willy (Left) and Tux Linux (Right)

Penguinopolis - After weeks of deliberation from the 1st Penguin Council, the two candidates most likely to take over the former and founding Chairpenguin, Pingu, remain former Hollywood actor, and outspoken civil rights activist and amateur kettle furnace hobbyist Chilly Willy and entrepreneur and technocrat Tux Linux, mascot of Linux Systems. Within the next few weeks, one of these penguin will be formally registered as the new Councilpenguin in the supervisoral and veto role on the Council, and often considered the highest office in the entire country.

Previously it had been rumored, one supported by both Defense Minister Pentarou and Secretary of Balloon Doggies Franklin Sherman that either Secretary of State Tuxedo Sam or Ambassador General Fleetwood would step in an assume the role, providing an "insider-but-outsider" perspective, but Pingu himself rejected that idea just before leaving office, as neither of them had been elected onto the Council to begin with. With relative neophytes Suica, Penta, and Peggi the only other Councilpenguins on the committee, it would have to be either Willy or Linux. Today's statement from the Penguin Council's Press Secretary Jonathan Strafe Winsberg IV of Statford-On-Abernathy (Esq) seemed to extinguish those previous rumors.

"No, no, there's no way we can give the Penguin Chairpenguin role to penguins not elected onto the Council. Well, sure, the first Council had been on the job for several years before new ones were put in, and that was only because a couple of them got knocked off by that assassin at that conference, but the citizens totally voted for those guys. Hey, does anybody even remember if the originals had all been elected? Oh, and free coffee and donuts in the back."

PUN historian Jennifer Galahad told the Daily Squawk that with the Council now being occupied by three parts entertainment penguins, and two parts practical business penguins, it seems most likely that the role of Chairpenguin would go to Chilly Willy.

The decision should be reached within the next few weeks.

Gwrachbyd industries today unveiled it's latest prototype in project Futen, a modified GBI J1 flying wing (stripped of all non essential equipment such as military hardware). if successful in it's attempt to circumnavagate the globe, the small single seat craft will usher in a new era of aviation.
Futen's revolutionary new engine (the details of which at this time are classified) will remove the need for in air refueling assets for military aircraft, allow comercial airliners to travel to the other side of the globe without need to stop multiple times for refueling thus shortening journy times and remove as dependance on petrolum based fuels.
Futen's creator stated that he came up with the idea while working on a project to create an electrically powered aircraft and realised that the technology being used to power the prop planes and helicopters could be adapted with some modification to jet and even rocket powered aircraft.
when asked why he chose the small J1 as opposed to larger more conventional aircraft he was quoted as saying "the flying wing design is perfect for a test bed as it's light weight and simplicity means there is less that could go wrong during the test and the large wing design would allow the craft to attempt a controlled landing in the event of engine failure"

Futen has been specifically modified to reduce the original craft's stealth characteristics and painted brilliant white "prototype" paintscheme so as not to be mistaken for a military aircraft, and will be accompanied by aircraft of other nations as it passes through their airspace both for security and as a good will gesture.

it's expected that if tests prove successful the new technology will be rolled out to gwrachbyd military and civil aircraft as well as made available on the international market

Saltbridge Sun’s Diplomatic Interview Series: Exclusive Interview with Ambassador Xavier Tucker, Bresdennian Mission to Saltbridge

Diplomatic was a interesting and tricky issue. Peace and war are parts of the playground. Therefore, we in SaltbridgeSun.com try to get more inside about diplomatic arena. Saltbridge Sun’s Diplomatic Interview Series was our tools to dig more about that issue.

Image
Ambassador Xavier Tucker

Editor’s Note: This interview is part of Saltbridge Sun’s Diplomatic Interview Seriess. Today we have, Ambassador Xavier Tucker, Bresdennian Mission to Saltbridge. Member of Nobility; distant relative of the Sovereign. He has a Master's in International Politics from Bresdennian University. He has worked for the government in various positions. He is married and has 2 children

Why did you join the Foreign Service?
I joined the Foreign Service as an act of patriotism and service to the Sovereign and my country. As a member of nobility, its expected to enter a service- whether it be military, public or like myself in the Foreign Service. Those qualities that my family instituted that have given me so much pride and shaped my character as a foreign service member.
We do a lot in the world to improve health, hunger, promotion of diplomacy and education especially through the work of Bresdennian Aide for International Development (BRAID) and the Bresdennian Educational Advancement & Development Service (BREADS)

If you were given the power, are there any elements of Bresdennian foreign policy that you would seek to change today?
I stand by and back the policies of my government. We do a lot in the world to improve health, hunger, promotion of diplomacy and education especially through the work of Bresdennian Aide for International Development (BRAID) and the Bresdennian Educational Advancement & Development Service (BREADS). I applaud the current work of the Bresdennian Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade.

What is your proudest achievement while you were in Foreign Service?
In my career serving the Sovereign, I have been blessed to serve in a variety of useful positions and have achieved a lot. But I would have to say serving as an Ambassador is my greatest achievement. In this role, I am able direct, help and implement change abroad.

What do you see as the single biggest threat to Bresdenn today?
The biggest threat to the Bresdennian Realm as an empire is keeping up with the expanding economy and economic security. The Realm is booming and leave the ''dark ages'' behind. Our economic growth has tripled over the last 5 years. We are such a large empire with expanding influence and some nations and groups seek to stifle our progression. I would like to see more jobs created for the surge of new residents in urban area and foreigners who wished to become Bresdennians.

What your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are simple. I plan to keep growing and working hard for The Realm, for Mankind and God. For a better future we have to work harder today!

Repeal the International Vote

By Milton St. Desjarden
Friday, January 16, 2015

The Internation Vote Act was passed by the Kingdom Council just last week. This act supports and gives outside governments the right to vote in Tuskamocan lordomanic and national elections. Of course, not everyone is satisfied with outsiders interfering with supposedly inland elections, and some have already actioned against it. Senators Dr. Sampson V.R. Key and Arabella Martin were the first two in Congress to speak up about the issue. Quoting Madam Martin, she says: "This nation, we, need elections involving only the Tuskamocan voters. It's not any other foreign governments' job to just jump in and place votes. It's our job and our business. We do not need interference from very high authority overseas."
Image

Doctor Key and Madam Martin have introduced a DDV (Debate, Discussion, and Vote) on a consideration of repealing the International Vote Act, which has passed through the Senate and the Kingdom Council. The DDV has taken place yesterday with an overwhelming big debate at the beginning, a rather faded discussion next, another unexpected debate formed during the discussion, and a tough vote, all which took five and a half hours. At last, the Kingdom Council had come to a conclusion of officially repealing the International Vote Act with twelve over nine votes.

The only question left is: Do you support the repeal?

Government Gave 3 billion Kenzsterling Loan to FlyKenzinia

KENZINIA CITY - The Kenzinian government, specifically the Ministry of Transportation earlier this morning gave a loan of 3 billion Kenzsterlings to the national flag carrier, FlyKenzinia. The carrier recently needed a fleet upgrade since most of the aircraft it currently operates are more than 10 years old. According to the Kenzinian National Law regarding Air Travel, the maximum age of airliners are 10 years.

"We hope the money will be used for upgrading their current fleet." Stated Minister of Transportation Rafka Mahendra this afternoon. He himself was a former manager of Kenzinia's global hub and FlyKenzinia's main hub airport, Sir Kenzsterling Intl. Airport. "Their current fleet is aging, and we don't want to take risks here."

Fauzan Adrian, the airline's CEO, said, "We already decided on what aircraft should we buy for the upcoming years. We assure our passengers their safety when flying with us." He further stated that his aircraft which are older than 10 years will be sold to other airlines soon.

01/21/2015 - Austzeland National Party War Crimes Trials to Start on January 30th in Serkala

Image
Pictured above: Isaak Korberg, one of the many commanders of the former ANP being charged with ordering the ethnic cleansing, crimes against humanity, genocide, and many other war crimes against Muslims and other "non-Austzelandis".

Today it has been confirmed that the date set has been set for the trials against numerous captured Austzeland National Party commanders and leaders who were captured during the 3rd Austzelandi Civil War back in August/September 2014, where anti-government rebels of the Austzeland National Party took the Austzelandi military and government by surprise when they captured the city of Serkala, and continued further into Austzeland until being stopped in the city of Vybor.

Back in September 2014, over 1,900 Austzeland National Party rebels surrendered to the military of Austzeland and other nation militarys serving alongside Austzeland in order to quell the ethnic cleansing and other crimes being conducted by Austzeland National Party forces, and defeat them. A plethora of war crimes were conducted under the territory which the Austzeland National Party controlled for a brief time, such as ethnic cleansing, genocide, torture, use of concentration camps, public executions and floggings, and many more against those the ANP considered "non-Austzelandi"; mainly Muslims, gays, blacks, and even other of foreign ethnicity (ex. American, Russian, Chinese, etc.). Of the 1,900 POWs taken after and during the end of the war, 90 of them were commanders and leaders who ordered the war crimes to be conducted. They are all set to be charged for what they ordered their forces to conduct in Serkala, the exact city where the civil war began.

During the civil war, an estimated 92,000 "non-Austzelandis" were either murdered, executed, flogged, or forced into slave labor by Austzeland National Party forces. However, that did not stop District XIV, Columbion, and Larthinia from deploying military forces to assist the Austzeland National Party in their offensive against the Republic of Austzeland. However, it is not confirmed if the commanders of the Fourtese, Columbionite and Larthinian ordered their forces to commit similar war crimes.

Security is expected to be heavy at the trials in Serkala. Although the war resulted in a government victory, it is known that several ANP rebels are in hiding around Austzeland or have escaped while they could into Russia or other bordering nations. Along with that, the self-proclaimed president of the ANP, Miro Kottwitz, is still at large. He is suspected to either be in northern Austzeland or on the other side of the Austzo-Russia border, and the manhunt for him even continues to this day.

More info on the upcoming trials will be posted right here on AAN Austzeland as it becomes available to the public.

Embargo placed on Adorkia!
Today, at midnight, the People's Congress has voted 211 to 150 To place a Ban on All Adorkian made goods and products coming into The North American Empire76. The ban includes clothes, drinks, food, medicine, building materials and natural rescources. The ban comes shortly after the Adorkian Military invaded Aanglandia, a region by Adorkia. The Emperor said this in his speech:

" as the fires of war die down, there are always others who seek for more land, more miltiary and more power. that is the thing that makes us human. Adorkia, a nation which our predessecor fought with for years, had decided to invade and annex the poor people of Aanglandia. we are outraged by this ' Act of untold aggression that will have dire consequences for all involved in this conflict of liberation and peace . I say to you this, Aanglandians are welcome here, along with radical groups located in there, because of our policy of supporting terroist groups such as ISIL, we recently gave them a loan of 2.3 billion Sais, the 10th largest loan we gave to them."

HDF Forces on the planet Pelagus (Class O waterworld) captured more of the pirates that have been plaguing the Commonwealth. These pirates bearing a black and red seal have been a menace but the HDF seems to be getting the upperhand. The Jade Order(ICH Military Intelligence) is still trying to find the source of who might be supporting the pirate scum.

Saltbridge’s opening of Defense Industry to foreign investors: Implications for region

Image
President Blend

Since the day President Blend has got the government in Saltbridge, he seems keen to develop Saltbridgen defense industry to new heights. The first important move that Oldwich is planning is to open her defense industry to foreign investment. Blend is preparing to modernize the country’s defense. He is planning to enhance Saltbridge’s military capabilities, and turn it into one of the largest arms exporter of the world.

Opening defense industry to foreign direct investment is a major change in orthodox Saltbridgen defense industrial structure, which in the past, relied completely on imports and indigenous manufacturing of arms and defense apparatus.

This initiative means an open invitation for investors to directly put money in order to achieve profits. It will give a boost to the defense manufacturing industry and hugely increase Saltbridgen arsenal that may have significant implications for these region.

Saltbridge Sun’s CEO Interview Series: Exclusive Interview with Chairman of Burgunden Diversified Industries, Mr. Jan Toft

Editor’s Note: This interview is part of Saltbridge Sun’s CEO interview series. This series is with Chairman of Burgunden Diversified Industries, Mr. Jan Toft
Image
Mr. Jan Toft

Jan Toft was born in the northern Burgunden suburb of Embrach on the 14th of March, 1948, as Neu Engollon was going through a mini-boom and the region of Astyria was just struggling through the tail end of the Second Great Astyrian War. His family was already well established, for some generations, as the owners of the Confederacy's most successful brewery, Burgunden Breuerie. Burgunden Breuerie had already been in operation for two centuries when it was taken over by Erich Toft, who rose up from Brew Master to buy the small operation from the previous owners in 1783. The Tofts proceeded to make Burgunden Breuerie become a household name across the Confederacy for the next two centuries. Jan's grandfather, Barnabas Toft, set his sights on expanding the family empire beyond the brewing industry and started to invest into other Neu Engollian ventures such as Vasaille Resources and the casinos that were starting operation in Panoli and the surrounding Mederano coast area. Jan grew up assisting in the breuerie and learning the trade. He strained his back hauling large malt and hops bags to and fro. His father took over upon Barnabas' death, and as Jan exited his teen years, he was put on the path of gaining a business education at Burgunden University that would enable him to prepare to take over the family empire and continue to expand their holdings. Jan received his graduate degree and was immediately put in charge of the Presarius Plaza Hotel chain as CEO, where he excelled and cut his teeth in the hospitality and service industry. He carried those lessons over to Burgunden Breuerie, the pillar company of the Toft family empire and still the main profitable enterprise. Tradition was never abandoned in favor of the bottom line.

In recent years, more acquisitions were added to the Toft family portfolio and it was seen as essential to transfer these holdings to an umbrella conglomerate corporation, rather than have them tied directly to the family coffers, for the security of the family. Also, family friends and fellow business mavens in the Confederacy were willing to join their capital in order to build a strong Neu Engollian corporation that could compete and gain in a regional and International scale. The Tell family was one of these investor groups. Hence, Burgunden Diversified Industries was born. BDI was named after the largest, most famous city in the Confederacy, which was also the ancestral home of the Tofts. The conglomerate holds trillions of dollars in assets currently and looks to expand further and has major projects in the works such as helping to develop AstyBev, the Astyrian beverage conglomerate. Recently, Jan stepped down from Burgunden Breueries, handing the family business over to his son, David, in order to focus on BDI full time.

Having started and built many multimillion-dollar and a billion-dollar business, how important was it to have the right leadership within your organization?
The right leadership is essential. Without it, a key block of BDI might fail. Recognizing leadership and recognizing failure to lead are equally essential skills that help divisions within BDI continue to grow and not stagnate.

They say anyone can become a leader. Is it really possible? Aren’t their people who have traits that make them unfit to be a leader?
This is certainly true that some are unfit to be leaders. While most who are not made to be leaders filter out in a natural process, some need to be given the harsh reality that their 'leadership' is unwanted and unproductive to those that they lead. Denying true leaders the ability to continue to lead those that they already have admirably, however, is also a grave mistake. When we bring on new companies to the BDI family, we try as much as possible to hang on to the entrepreneur CEOs that started the companies in the first place. They were natural leaders to get their companies to the point that we recognized their value. Upon their loss, we have tall shoes to fill. Unfortunately, we face that from time to time as some of these entrepreneur CEOs are selling their companies in order that they can move on in life and retire.

What is one mistake you witness leaders making more frequently than others?
Failure to delegate. You must have a solid crew under you to be able to perform all the tasks and achieve all the goals you wish to fulfill. If you can't trust them to lead in your stead, what is the point? Delegation to management and so on down the chain is crucial to avoid burnout. Along with that, you must know when to step down and realize you are no longer able to do an effective job. When some major health issues arose and stress started to overwhelm me, I was able to count on my son, David, to take over the primary family business, Burgunden Breueries. Now I can focus on BDI full time and not be stretched too thin, as well as work on keeping in good health and shape.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing leaders today?
Technology and how to use it effectively. Change is inevitable. Leaders that fail to realize that will find themselves and their corporations left behind. Leaders that buy up the newest technology, without the trained personnel or game plan to implement it and recoup that investment, lose out just as much as those that don't take advantage of new innovation.
Change is inevitable. Leaders that fail to realize that will find themselves and their corporations left behind.

What advice would you give someone going into a leadership position for the first time?
Have confidence in yourself, as well as those you lead. Do not underestimate those you lead unless they give you reason not to do so. Your confidence infuses those you lead and it is returned back to you tenfold, when you can trust that your people can keep things from going off the rails in this crazy world. In turn, they trust you to guide them through when the crazy world does spin out of control.

MILITIA CALLS FOR NEW PISTOL, CARTRIDGE
Image

FORT ROOT — As the Militia Forces dispose of aging M9A1 pistols in favor of the M10, some in the ranks favor retirement of the 9mm Luger entirely. Such an action would require the adoption of an entirely new sidearm, which others say would unnecessarily cause further logistical trouble. LTCOL Amy Miller, Small Arms Research and Development Command, said, "It would be easier in the long run to improve the 9mm, like using an EFMJ [expanding full metal jacket] round." Elizian military law holds the use of expanding ammunition to be legal in conflicts between nations and armed non-state actors—guerrillas, criminals, etc.—and EFMJ bullets are only marginally deadlier than standard FMJs.
Proponents of a change in sidearm suggest a caliber in the .35-.45 range. SARDCOM has solicited existing designs from arms manufacturers, such as the SIG Sauer P227, Glock 41, STI Tactical 5.0 and Beretta Px4 Storm SD.

McGarry Government Announces New Building Project

Image

Chancellor David McGarry unveiled today the plans of a new skyscraper that is going to be built on the outskirts of downtown Hausmacht beginning this spring. The project will be funded by the Ministry of the Treasury and constructed by the Ministry of Infrastructure and will be used for government offices, a hotel, penthouse apartments and other amenities. The cost of the new building is said to be about 65 billion Confederate dollars, as it will also have space going one or two miles underground. This project has been discussed by a few of McGarry's predecessors, but thought it too costly. "This will definitely put Nationale Einheit, and more specifically our nation's capital, on the map," Chancellor McGarry said during the announcement. McGarry lobbied with the Senate to get the needed funding for the project and it was approved yesterday. "This building will be freaking tall," a source said. There will be office space for the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor and the President in the new building, which will be called Hausmacht Center =
