Death Toll rises to 350, Damage $3.2 billion estimated
As Biloxi and the rest of the state recover from Hurricane Maria, estimates come out of the National Disaster Recovery Center expect damage to be in 3.2 billion and will still likely to rise. Extensive flooding along the coast and in the swamp lands are taking a heavy impact of economic loss and damaged. Over 200 homes are damaged or destroyed including a total loss to a mobile home park.
Besides the damage to the financial district, farms are reporting total crop loss resulting from the storm. "Just a loss. The house, the barn, two fields." Says local farmer Reiji Azuma. "We can only thank God we all survived."
The hurricane is also believed to have spawn a violent EF4 tornado that tore through South Arkansas killing 16 and injuring over 40. Damage is mostly to farms along the border and in the country side including a small town.
Weather reports also do not look good for the week as heavy rains are expected for the affected areas risking flooding. Congress is expected to resume session next week, assuming the building is deemed safe. If unsafe conditions are present, Atlanta will play host.
