As the clock struck midnight in Fischer's Revolution Square, President Leland Friece delivered a speech to commemorate the arrival of 2023. Alongside President Friece stood Vice President Myriam Daranov, and First Lady Helena Jaradrau.
In attendance were also several prominent members of President Friece's administration, notably Minister of Foreign Affairs Markus Straub, and Press Secretary Eleanora Wolfrahm.
In his speech, President Friece celebrated the progress made by Aumbura in 2022.
"This past year has been a magnificent one for our country," said President Friece. "It was a year of splendid social and economic growth, of increasing stability, and security. I can only hope that this new year goes even better for our beautiful Aumbura."
President Friece also took the time to commend Aumbura's newly minted relationships with countries such as Agausia, and Tangatarehua. President Friece also gave praise to several long-existing Aumburan allies.
"Over this past year we have made many new friends," said President Friece. "It is my belief that we are building some truly special relationships with countries such as Tangatarehua and Agausia. We must also commend and thank many of our long time allies, such as The Aquaria, Janpia, Drongonia, Frisemark, South Olpen, and the many other nations whom have continued to stand by our side as nations for the furtherment of goodness and virtue. They are in no small part responsible for the wonders of this past year."
This speech marks President Friece's second public appearance since being shot and wounded during a terror attack in December that killed 2 reporters. President Friece acknowledged the incident in his speech, and thanked his supporters for helping him to recover.
"An attempt was made on my life recently," said President Friece. "I'm sure you're all waiting for me to acknowledge that. I shall acknowledge it, and I shall express my utter grief over the lives lost on that day. Peter Radriel, and Oskar Munter lost their lives to the hands of senseless violence and evil. I am beyond fortunate to be standing here today, only mildly wounded. For my recovery, I must thank our medical staff, as well as our citizenry who have been so vocal in their support.
A moment of silence was held for the many victims of the December shooting, with the flags in the city square all simultaneously being lowered to half mast.
Many in the crowd expressed hope for the future, and sorrow over the attacks in December.
"That day was no doubt a dark one in our history," said one attendee. "I hope in 2023 we can honor the memories of the victims by building an even greater Aumbura than the year before."

Oldrament_Para: Security increased in 2022? Are you sure about that?
Dee_Drew3: Well said by that attendee. The best way to honor the slain is to ensure that an event like the December shooting can never happen again.
