This post will contain the official ballot with which users will vote upon as well as instructions on how to vote. The current exceptional circumstances of this election have resulted in only one candidate standing for the position of Overseer. In light of this situation, the ballot below will have only two options, either to elect Achaean Republic as Overseer, or to Re-open Nominations (RON). If the votes for RON outweigh those for Achaean Republic, open nominations will be re-opened for a period of 1 week, after which a new election will take place, unless no-one else stands in which case Achaean Republic will beocme the Overseer. 7TH WORLD HIT FESTIVAL OVERSEER ELECTIONS RESULTS

The deadline for voting has passed and thus, it is time for me (slightly overdue I'm aware, many apologies) to reveal the results of the 7th WHF Overseer election.

5 nations elligible to vote did so. They were Normandy and Picardy, Elejamie, Ealdracaland, Beepee and Kalosia. All five voted unanimously for Achaean Republic

It is therefore a great honour to announce that Achaean Republic will be the next Overseer of the World Hit Festival. I will help Ach run the rest of this contest, before handing over the reins for the start of WHF71. Whilst I can, I would like to say that although my overseership had been more... disrupted than I had imagined it would be by real life events, I have really appreciated the opportunity. I wish Ach the best of luck in carrying this contest forward, and hopefully doing a better job than I could.

Thank you so much for the honor, the opportunity, and the responsibility to carry this festival to its future! I have received so much support from friends, family, and colleagues and I will do my best to make this the best Multiversal competition around!

Now, I shall be collaborating with the outgoing Overseer—and host Normandy and Picardy—for the duration of this edition before passing the mantle to me. Once this edition is complete, we will begin considering any changes that need to be made before moving on to the next contest in whoever city wins and (hopefully!) decides to host the competition. This being the 70th edition of the World Hit Festival, we are committed to providing an iconic competition that everyone in the Multiverse will enjoy!

First off, my sincerest apologies over the lack of communication from the current and upcoming Overseers regarding the situation of the 70th World Hit Festival in Caen, Normandy and Picardy. There have been many OOC situations impacting the progress and development of the competition, but we are ready to remedy these situations immediately and tackle such challenges as they arise.
To date, we have very few sign-ups in the Draft Thread, and we would like to extend an invitation to every user to sign up and submit their entry to the competition. Thus, we will extend all the deadlines by a week in order to maximize the entry and qualities of such. The changes are as follows:

WHF 70 | Further Hosting Details

Many thanks to those who have already posted their entries on the Draft Thread, or are planning to do shortly. In order to allow you to get a better sense of how the show itself will look, the team at SRNP here provide a series of details on the show.

« Fabriquer: Un pays moderne » | The Postcards

The concept behind the postcards for this contest is the theme « Fabriquer: Un pays moderne » (Making: A Modern Country). Jointly funded by the Federal Arts and Humanities Council, the Industrial Council of Normandy and Picardy, and Art Normandie, and integrated into the hosting of this contest, "Fabriquer" is a broader festival and celebration of the creative impulse, and especially its relationship with industrial processes and other forms of 'making', in the modern history of Normandy and Picardy. It is part of promoting and aiding a much larger campaign of regeneration following the decline of traditional large scale industry, and seeks to show off the emergence of a new, modern country that embraces the creative abilities of its people; the previous hostings of the contest in Amiens and especially Le Havre have directly benefitted from and sought to highlight these, as is also the case with this contest and the refurbishment of the Stade du Parc, hosts of the contest. Meanwhile, the Atelier Hugo Rouselle, who designed the stage for this contest, have been involved in a range of cultural events, and have received central government funding to aid their work to prepare Caen for the thousands of fans who will visit over the course of the contest itself.

The postcards themselves will draw directly on this. Like in previous Normand hosted contest, the opportunity to showcase both Normandy and Picardy will be taken, but the artists themselves will also be celebrated and introduced. This will be done by bringing them to Normandy and Picardy to experience the country for themselves, and engage with activities that fit as part of the "Fabriquer" theme. To demonstrate this, let us use the example of the postcard for our new overseer, Achaean Republic. The central theme of this postcard is the production of the world-famous Camembert cheese in its traditional home, the village of Camembert in the department of Orne, south east of Caen and in the heart of the Normand countryside, which the postcard will also celebrate. The Achaean representative, Rodrigo Arenas, was invited to take part in the artisinal cheese production process and learn about this cornerstone of Normand life. The production of foodstuffs is but one of the range of different activities celebrated in these postcards, from art lessons at the house of the artist Monet at Giverny, to museum curation and local arts projects at the Museum of the First World War at Peronne, to animation in Avranches and house music and the rave scene in Le Havre. Indeed, the creation of music will especially be central to the postcards, as individualised tunes will be played during each contest as well, a celebration of modern Normand music. Especially featured will be previous Normand World Hit Festival entries, celebrating the heritage of Normandy and Picardy as one of the contest's most successful countries, and these will sit beside songs by well-known names as well as new artists. In case you're curious, the song chosen for the Achaean postcard is « Laisse-m'en un peu » ("Save A Little for Me"), an unexpected hit for up and coming indie artist Malypense from Caen itself.

L’Animatrice du spectacle » | The Host

We are also glad to announce that veteran Normand broadcaster and TV host, and previous host of the World Hit Festival as well as often-spokesperson for Normandy and Picardy, Marie de l'Abre has kindly agreed to return to run proceedings. A safe, and popular, pair of hands, Marie will be well placed to keep the show on the road in two languages, French and English. Normand and Picard federal law requires that at least half the contest be produced in French, as the Normand broadcasting group SRNP is overseen by the Federal government (and individual members of SRNP are overseen by the respective governments of the constituent states), and thus fall under rules on official communications; this does not apply for most contests, where the Normand commentary suffices, but as the show is being produced by SRNP, the rules must be followed. Neverthless, we are also aware that English is the official language of the contest and one most international audiences will be familiar with, and so the show will also be presented in English. Marie will be able to draw on her experience to manage the many competing countries and their acts, the all important voting, and the interval acts provided by SRNP to again represent the best of modern Normand music; acts will include the most recent winners of the prestigious Cherbourg College of Music Song Contest.

To the World Hit Festival community:

It has come to our attention that our Normand and Picard Christine Périault has immediately resigned from her duties as the Overseer of the World Hit Festival as of today, July 2, 2023. This leaves me to automatically take place as the official Overseer of the contest as I was previously elected. This also means that Normandy and Picardy will no longer host the 70th World Hit Festival in Caen. We wish Miss Périault the best wishes and her future endeavors, and we appreciate her contributions to the overall health and progress of this prestigious competition.

In these exceptional circumstances, many changes must be done immediately and expediently to ensure that we hold our contest. And mark my words: we will have a contest complete with amazing entries and crown an amazing winner. This event has not occurred in recent times—per research, this event has only occurred during the 12th World Hit Festival, celebrated in Korbia, The Atlammes—but our community has managed to rally and commit for the contest. However, we face an unprecedented challenge in the number of entries and sign-ups. To date, we only have two posted entries that can be considered complete and a few other entries that have signed up and no RP. And as the 70th edition, I would like to maximize the opportunity of others to compete and have their chance to win.

Thus, the following:

1. The Achaean Republic will host the 70th World Hit Festival in the city of Corola. The details of hosting, including postcards and venues for the final event, as well as the live draw, will be shortly announced.
2. All completed entries and sign-ups will be accepted into the draft thread.
3. Sign-ups will continue to be open until a later date, to be announced.
4. New dates will also be announced in order to ensure that everybody has a chance to complete their entry and compete.

We sincerely apologize for the circumstances that have affected the progress of the contest. But rest assured I, as your Overseer, will dedicate myself to overcoming all the challenges afforded to me by this role. Muchas gracias for your patience, and I hope to see you all in Corola.
