Welcome to the Achaean Republic!

Firstly, I would like to thank and congratulate our friends at CRTS for their hosting of the contest last edition, helping show off their country and culture to millions across the multiverse, and with a top production to boot. Merci beaucoup. I also look forward to working with our friends in the Achaean Republic once again, who I must also congratulate on what is of course not their first win, on the hosting of the 68th edition of the contest in the warm and welcoming city of Santa Ana. I am sure that the team at AS1 will put on the best possible show and we will do everything in our power to work with them ensure that it is so, and that indeed we can welcome more countries and more viewers to enjoy this great festival of song. All that remains to be said now is Bonne chance à tous!

What is the World Hit Festival?
The World Hit Festival (WHF) is a multiversal song competition. Each nation shall enter 1 song and 1 artist, and it shall be 'performed' via roleplay. Most nations tend to use a real-life tune as a musical backing, but every entry submitted to the World Hit Festival is required to have original lyrics (ie. if you submit a tune, you must re-write the lyrics), so this does mean that instrumental entries are blocked from entering the contest.

WHF operates with three threads, the OOC, Draft, and IC threads. The one you are seeing now is the OOC/Sign-ups thread, the main place for you to discuss the contest, reveal your entrant, etc. All OOC chatter goes here. The Draft Thread, opened by the host, is the second thread opened up during a WHF contest, and this draft thread is where nations will post and work on their entries until a deadline determined by the host. The IC thread, also opened by the host is the third and final thread attached to a WHF, and it is where the host will transfer your entries. In order to see how the whole thing works, feel free to explore the previous competition in Beepee, linked above, which will also allow you to get a feel for the contest and what is required.

Rules and Regulations...

ENTRIES

1. For an entry to be accepted, must have one of either at least some staging directions orsuitable background role play.‘At least some staging directions’ is to be defined as anything more than 3 sentences of RP to accompany the entry. Cases that are on the borderline will be accepted or rejected at the discretion of the Host and the Overseer.' ‘Suitable background role play’ is to be defined as at least 5 sentences of background to the entry. The right to reject an entry according to this criterium is reserved by the Host and the Overseer. More generally, feel free to consult the Acceptable Entry Standards for the World Hit Festival
2. All or at least most of the written lyrics must be original. Should any user spot any concerns, don't hesitate to let the overseer or current host know.
3. In order for Semi-Finals to be initiated, there must be enough nations for there to be 13 nations per Semi Final. The number of participants before Semi Finals are initiated will be dependent on circumstances.
4. The maximum amount of nations that can participate without more than one automatic qualifier (ie the host) is 18 nations per Semi-Final. Once this number has been broken, the top 6 (including the host) will automatically qualify to reduce 18 nations to 15 in each Semi.

CONTEST

1. A nation is allowed to submit 1 puppet maximum to the contest, meaning that a user can be controlled at most 2 nations in the contest.
2. Users must send a full ranking of all nations on the IC Thread to the host of the competition when the voting opens. If users usually split their rankings across multiple participating nations (master and at least one puppet), they are free to provide only one ranking - provided it directly aligns with how many points given out across the user's participating nations. Otherwise, the user must send a ranking per participating nation they own. Rankings should not be displayed by any given user until after the Festival has been completed.
3. The nation ranked first will receive 5 points, the nation ranked second will receive 4 points etc. Nations ranked 6th or below will not receive any points.
4. When participating with multiple nations, users can only give themselves 5 points maximum across both nations, and a maximum of 3 to one (that is to say, a maximum of 3 to one and 2 to the other). Votes will not be accepted if users give themselves, across both of their nations, more than 5 points, or more than 3 points to one.
5. In the event of a tie, the countback system goes as follows: Amount of nations - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 - 6th places, 7th places etc.

HOSTING

1. The winner of the competition will automatically be given the right to host the competition. The winner will be contacted by the Overseer to ask if they want to take up the role.
2. The host can reveal they will host the World Hit Festival after talks with the Overseer on when to do this.
3. If the host either doesn't announce their interest in hosting the proceeding contest or declines hosting rights, usual procedure is that the nation who came 2nd will be asked and so on until it reaches the Overseer. The Overseer can give hosting responsibilities to a user placed below them if they are willing to host, and the Overseer also reserves the ability to choose an alternative host.
4. If the host abandons their host duties, the World Hit Overseer will be responsible for what left needs to be done.
5. We would like to ensure all World Hit Festival hosts can host the competition to the best of their ability. If you have any concerns about hosting if given the opportunity to, don't hesitate to speak to the World Hit Overseer.

AS1 is proud to present the 68th World Hit Festival from the Sultan of the Sun, Santa Ana, Achaean Republic!

The Taínos inhabited the lands of Marién in Northwestern Hispaniola as their own for over a millenia, carrying their traditions and forging alliances with other cacicazgos across the island. The city that has now become Santa Ana was called Utuabey, whose spirit of fierce independence has become part of the spirit of the zacatequense people. When the Spanish colonizers arrived in 1501, they were received with rocks and arrows over the perceived intentions of taking over the land. This led to the first Taíno wars against the Spanish until 1530, when illnesses, guns and attrition from starvation led to the near extinguishment of the native Taíno populace. This lead for the Spanish—in collaboration with the Portuguese slave handlers who looked for a stopby to São Vicente (later Rosario Island)—to import Tupi-Guaraní indigenous peoples from South America to Western Achaea, which later became the Tauí. Also, slaves from the Yoruba, Hausa, and Fula tribes were brought to the region. During this time, the city was named Santa María de Catalunya.

In 1789, a young mixed-race nun called Ana María José de Ocampo-Duchamps was brutally beaten and almost assaulted by Spanish authorities because she was believed to harbor anti-monarchical sentiments due to the French Revolution, which her half-French family supported. The next morning, the bruises in her body miraculously healed, and forgave her captors. After her death in 1795, her example of love and forgiveness moved the authorities in newly-independent Achaea to rename the city to Santa Ana de Zacatecas.

Zacatecas was also the very last state to regain its statehood during the Achaean Civil War for the freedom of slavery, hosting various battles in Santa Ana, El Conuco and Obligado. Santa Ana is also the scene of an eclectic urban music scene, as well as a thriving culinary spectacle that engages the senses and tantalizes everyone that comes to the city to enjoy its fabulous beaches and peculiar shellfish.

You can visit the Casa Grande de Vigó Cultural Center, where you can explore Santa Ana’s rich history and culture. If you want some excitement, you can enjoy dipping into the waters at Río Cañas Natural Park or relax on the serene beaches of Playa Santa. Maybe you can enjoy the Caribbean’s largest zoo in the Zoológico Nacional, or enhance your studies at the University of Zacatecas. Bahoruco has the best bars, and the unofficial “gayborhood” of Manizales enjoys an popular indie music and art scene. The fifth-largest city in the Achaean Republic, Santa Ana has a population of 400,000 and with enough sunshine to offer for everybody that arrives here!

You can arrive to Santa Ana through Santa Ana International Airport; by boat through the Civilian Port of Santa Ana (Puerto Civil de Santa Ana); or driving through Federal Highways 15 and 16 from major cities like Corola and Candelaria. Many also take a coach bus from other cities to Santa Ana, such as Greyhound. Santa Ana also boasts an integrated Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system that travels to all of its major barrios and suburbs, as well as nearby cities in its immediate metro area such as Viñales, Nossa Soña, and El Progreso.

The Hilton-Tamaná Convention Center is located near the shores of the Caribbean Sea. Built in 2017, the venue is one of the most technologically advanced centers in Latin America and the Caribbean, closely located at the conjunction of two major federal highways. It is composed of four main buildings, of which two will be used for the 68th World Hit Festival: The Pabellón de Ferias y Congresos (Fair and Congresses Pavillion), which will house 14,500 visitors and the main stage; and the Convention Hall, which will be split in half for the Green Room and the International Media Center.

Following a reversal of last edition’s spirit, this stage brought by Santa Ana-based designers Polonius Consulting features a catwalk-like stage with 3D notions that also provide the typical elements needed to provide the best performance to the audience: fire and fireworks, water, smoke, moving platforms and stage pieces, and so on. Use the 16 cameras on stage to your advantage, and don’t forget that contestants can perform on the sides, as well!

Augusto “Y-Jacie” Rodríguez has represented the Achaean Republic twice in the World Hit Festival, competing alone with “Lluvia” in the 52nd edition in Monterra, Kalosia, and alongside supergroup DYY on the 60th edition in Ayronik, Britonisea. He is a popular singer, songwriter, critic, and cultural ambassador for the Tauí peoples of Western Achaea, giving classes about the indigenous way of life across the nation and the world. He will also perform his new single during the final night.

Carolina Choi is a Santa Ana native who became Miss Acaya 2022. The Korean-Achaean model is also a popular influencer, YouTuber, and designated cultural ambassador to South Korea for the Achaean Republic. She speaks Korean, English, Spanish and French, and is more than ready to showcase the beauty and diversity of Santa Ana to the Multiverse!

Sponsored by the Achaean Republic Department of Tourism, this year’s postcards will follow the theme of Follow the Sun, where the performers will travel across the country and enjoy the hottest and sunniest spots Achaea can offer. Each postcard will also have a thirty-second musical interlude featuring tropical rhythms. Look at the examples below:





Other elements of this edition’s graphics package will feature vibrant colors reminiscent of sunrises and sunsets, the waves of the sea, and the freedom provided by following the sun in all its splendor. This has been created alongside the Official Televoting Partner for the 68th World Hit Festival, Axis®, an Achaean and Caribbean leader in telecommunications that is also headquartered in Santa Ana.

The Casa Grande de Vigó Cultural Center will set the stage for the Live Allocation Draw. Built in 1887 at the height of the postwar Santa Ana Creole movement taking the best of Spanish and Portuguese neoclassic styles by the Galician Vigó family, this mansion in the heart of Downtown Santa Ana also hosts numerous cultural events sponsored by the city, including Viernes de Bohemia, the Santa Ana International Book Fair, and the Amanecida Cultural sponsored by the University of Zacatecas’ Student Affairs Office.

The live allocation draw will be hosted by Y-Jacie and Carolina Choi.

The draw structure used in World Hit Festival 59 will be maintained:

1. The Achaean Republic will be drawn to perform first.
2. Countries will be drawn to perform in either the first or second halves of the contest based on a performance record algorithm (PRA) of the past five contests and placements in subsequent pots.
3. After the countries are allocated, one country will be drawn to perform first or second if the Achaean Republic has drawn first.
4. One country will be drawn to perform last or second-to-last if the Achaean Republic has drawn last.
5. Should semifinals be triggered, the draw structure will be slightly altered. In addition, the qualifying nations will have their final halves drawn on the live telecast of the contest.

The Performance Record Algorithm (PRA) will seed nations based on a nation’s performance in the last five contests (WHF63-WHF67) between 0 and 1, with 0 being a non-performance and 1 for first place. The maximum number of points allowed will be 5.00, which equates to five First Place placements. If two or more countries have the same number of points, the following tiebreaker criteria will be used:

1. Number of Editions performed;
2. countback system with country’s placement within the last five editions starting from WHF67, WHF66, WHF65, WHF64 and WHF63;
3. if tied after the countback, alphabetical order in the Spanish language.

Countries that have not performed in the past five editions or are new in the competition will be allocated according to Spanish language alphabetical order.

The final performance order will be determined by the host producers and approved by the Reference Board of the World Hit Festival in order to provide every nation the equal opportunity to shine on stage.

A Hit For The World: Britonisea breaks 4 edition hiatus as Ben Nikolai represents Britonisea at WHF68!


Ben Nikolai: The 26-year-old will represent Britonisea with his rock ballad "CAMOUFLAGE" in Achaean Republic...

With Britonisea's last win being on Achaean soil, it was a no-brainer for Britonisea to return to the festival after taking its lengthiest break ever...

The last time Britonisea participated at the World Hit Festival was at the 63rd World Hit Festival when Scotatrova hosted. It was a relatively small festival - with fourteen nations participating though nowadays, that's a pretty good number for the Festival. Britonisea placed 9th - landing on the right-hand side of the scoreboard for the third time in four editions. In fact, at the 60th, 61st and 63rd World Hit Festival, Britonisea received less points than it did at the 59th World Hit Festival which saw Josh Morris pick up Britonisea's eighth and most recent World Hit Festival win making the 60s pretty disastrous for the nation. BVC decided to withdraw the country until further notice and while there had been some attempts to come back, nothing came into fruition until the 68th World Hit Festival. With Achaean Republic hosting once again, the strong ties between Britonisea and the host nation enticed the broadcaster to return, alongside the fact that Josh Morris' landslide win happened whilst in the Republic.

On today's episode of A Hit For The World, it was announced that Ben Nikolai - who was rumoured to represent Britonisea at the WorldVision Song Contest 103 - would in turn represent Britonisea at the upcoming World Hit Festival and after speaking to the 26 year old Machievelihian, we listened to his song which then went public on all social media for everyone to listen to. His song, "CAMOUFLAGE" was written by James Benamar, who represented Britonisea at the 57th World Hit Festival - where he finished in fifth place in a field of 21 nations. Alongside Benamar, Willis Corsia joins the music production team. Nikolai is credited as a lyricist alongside Benamar and Michelle O'Hagan who also worked on the entry at the 57th World Hit Festival.
