The O’Connor family, who had slaves both before and after the Lord-Chancellor legalised slavery, have been found to have slaves after it was banned again.
The police have raided a caravan site when they found Glevenscestrian,
Thamesholmian and Finish men, many of them mentally ill or intellectually disabled, in filthy conditions.
Some of them were held as slaves when it was legalised and ,it seems, never released when it was made illegal again, others
testified that they were tricked into working with false promises of wages, then threatened or beaten when they tried to leave.
Commissioner Sasja Khan said “I thank my detectives for bringing to light cases where people appear, based on the evidence, to have been held as slaves.
We have asked the Glevenscestrian Prosecution Service for authority to charge these individuals with slavery and are currently waiting on a response.”
The patriarch of the O’Connor family said “when slavery was made illegal again we stopped doing it and offered to hire the lads for money, even before that time we treated ’em like family.”
Many view this claim as ridiculous seeing his family owned a Ferrari, two Jaguars and a Lambourgini and frequently went on holiday in Westmonkwick, Monaco and (until they were denied entry following a previous conviction) Dubai.
He had also claim to treat people like family he was previously convicted of enslaving.
