Background
Months after a Parliamentary Election was held and Andrew Jonathan was appointed as acting President after being appointed by Prime Minister Ernest Thylleson, Ficterio will hold a Presidential Election.
Under Ficterio's Constitution, the President is mostly a ceremonial role. However, this Election has been interpreted as a referendum on various issues. And the President as the Ceremonial Head of State may theoretically be much more powerful than it seems to be.
Candidates:
Theresa Walker - Ficterian Union
Jean Pastoki - National Alignment
Campaign:
Ethnic Tensions
After Ernest Thylleson appointed a Cabinet composed only of English-speaking members, ethnic tensions rose in Ficterio.
The incumbent government has also been accused of only hiring English-speaking Ficterians as civil servants, although it has constantly denied those accusations.
Allegations of Unfairness
Theresa Walker has been accused of having support from the incumbent government, and Ficterio's media has been accused of giving preferential coverage to Theresa Walker.
A few days before the election, it was revealed by a whistleblower that the National Security Council of Ficterio was spying on Jean Pastoki and many of his campaign members.
