Survive Sherechia: Earthquake in Sakhatkhorgo [IC/OPEN]

What is this?
RP as a tourist in Sakhatkhorgo, kind of like this thread but during your stay, an earthquake will wreck your vacation. When it will happen is determined by me of course. You can RP as a tourist, exchange student, businessman, anything really.

Rules:
1. My word is final and I have the right to not recognize a post if it goes against Sherechia's lore or is too unrealistic.
2. Your first post counts as your sign up post, describe how you enter the city.
4. If you have any questions, telegram me, do not write it in this thread.
5. The boundary of this RP is Sakhatkhorgo city, Lake Chida, and the Airport.
6. All human characters are accepted automatically, non-human characters will be approved on a case-to-case basis.
7. I determine the date, no one can advance the time.
8. Don't be too serious, this isn't a political debate on the Quotations of Chairman Mao, relax and have fun! Though please do be aware that any RP on natural disasters can get a bit real sometimes. Ex: Your character might get crushed by a multistory building.

The earthquake has happened. Sakhatkhorgo city has been destroyed. You can still visit though you must enter by road or by helicopter as all air and rail connections have been severed. Road connections may be blocked by landslides and collapsed bridges. Aftershocks, landslides, liquefaction, and floods may occur.

You arrive in Sakhatkhorgo International Airport. The customs officer asks to you, "Papers please, what's your name?"

Orion exits the airport to a busy road with cars dropping off and picking up passengers. The air is cold and light and mountains tower in the distance. He sees a taxi depot, a bus station, and a car rental place.

After exiting the airport, Reza sees his driver waiting for him in the pick-up area. The weather begins to get cloudy and fog descends into the valley. Traffic is relatively light though this being Sherechia, everyone drives as fast as possible. The driver asks,

"Where should we go first? sir? Oh and don't bother trying to find this car's seatbelts, it has no seatbelts."

A commuter train passes by, parallel to the highway. It enters a tunnel as the highway climbs over a small mountain. As the car crests over the mountain. The city of Sakhatkhorgo reveals itself. A valley completely covered by midrise apartment blocks with plenty of trees, the white walls of the Chisun palace radiate over the valley, surrounded by desolate Tibetan-style mountains.

Francine Lemaire woke with a start from the nap she had dozed off during the plane ride. Looking out the window she saw that she had finally landed at her destination.
From the cockpit, Francine could clearly make out the pilot's screams as she was on a small 12-passenger tourist plane. This is because it was the only European aircraft available that managed to enter Sakhatkhorgo International Airport, which was so small that even sardines would have felt cramped.
While the pilot was still hurling insults at someone's mother, the young woman asked the passenger sitting next to her what had happened. She, still pale in the face, replied that a departing plane had just crossed the road while theirs was still finishing landing. Francine was amazed for a moment, wondering if the woman was making fun of her. But evidently, looking at the reactions of the other frightened passengers too, she wasn't lying. She wondered if she had been right to choose Sherechia as a vacation spot. It was said they were a little eccentric but she didn't know at what point these were just rumors. The travel agency hadn't explained much about the country, except that there were good tourist destinations, both urban and natural, at a good price. And may the devil take her if she didn't enjoy that vacation!
As the secretary of one of the major law firms in Paris, she had had an enormous amount of work over the past year. So she had asked vacation early to be able to work off some stress. She was 37 and wanted to enjoy life a little more. But where to go?
Traveling to the other states of the European Federation was too obvious. Why not opt for something further away? Maybe for an Asian country? Usually these countries are known for those Buddhist things of inner peace or the like that would surely relieve them of stress. The contact with nature, then, would surely have set her in motion after all that time closed in the office. With renewed confidence, Francine took her bags and stepped off the plane. She headed to the check-in and began preparing her papers.

"Good morning, papers please. Ok everything is in order, welcome to Sherechia."

Exiting the customs section, a mild feeling of tiredness and lightheadedness hits Francine. The thin air of Sakhatkhorgo which is located a full 3 km above sea level is taking a toll on Francine's body. In the airport lobby are several shops selling overpriced souveniers but more importantly, several cafe's, restaurants, and vending machine. All of them sell herbal tea, the herb in question being Khimak leaves. A native Sherechian plant known for curing altitude sickness.

Meanwhile, the weather outside has turned British with dull-colored sky and fog descending on the valley. There is also an information board showing when the next bus will arrive to pick up passengers from the airport into Sakhatkhorgo city. A car rental place is also visible from the airport windows.

Damn! The lack of air at high altitude was something Francine hadn't considered. Breathing a little, she walked around the lobby of the small airport. She noticed that special local leaves were advertised on the walls to combat the malaise of heights. Before deciding which means to use to reach the city, perhaps it was better to take some.
Too bad they seemed to be sold only in tea format. She walked over to the vending machines; who knows if they also sold chewing gum made from that weed?

Theodora Hubert, a country girl hick, more or less, from a town of 1000 people in the middle of nowhere Abetton. Nowhere near tall mountains, nowhere near anything major, just a down home small town girl. What was she doing here? Well she was visiting her sister, Clara, a college student here at SIT, why all the way here, was really something she didn't get and even resented. Plenty of schools back home but even then, why leave her town? Yeah, while Clara may have been eager to escape the small town life, Theodora was all to comfortable in it. She loved Clara but still kind of resented her for leaving, because she was her only sister and it was tough without having the wise older sister. Her flight arrived, late due to weather coming in and the difficult airport but she made it safe and sound but boy she now hated flying. A tiny little plane for a number of hours, strapped to her seat, uuugh never again, only way she was seeing her sister from now on was when Clara came back for the holidays. Her earbuds in, she dragged along her rolling suitcase ready to present her travel papers.

"Ok here are the keys, follow me."

The person leads Orion to the car, a black-colored Daisan 714.

Orion finds that the car is rather old, it looks like it's either from the 80s or 90s, which it is. While clean and well maintained. It has no seatbelts, no airbags, a traditional carburetor, a manual transmission, no ABS and traction control. At least it has a nice comfy beige cloth seat.

This can be seen either as good news or bad news. Francine doesn't find any chewing gum, however, the vending machine sells the leaves in its raw form, put inside a small plastic packaging. It has this bitter, minty flavor for it and does not cause intoxication, even in large quantities.

While the customs officers check her papers, he sees that Hubert took a small plane directly into Sakhatkhorgo.

"Oh you poor soul, usually people take the comfy big planes and land on Aruday, then they transfer to an even comfier high-speed train here. Might consider that method for a better travel experience, anyway, everything seems to be in order, welcome to Sherechia."

After clearing customs. Hubert sees Sakhatkhorgo's BRT system map on some wall. One line takes her directly from the airport to the SIT. While it is a long ride with many stops, the bus doesn't get stuck in traffic due to dedicated lanes, and no transfers to other lines are required.

Ok, I know a good one near the highway exit.

The car makes a left turn on the cloverleaf interchange. It arrives on a busy 4 lane road with small shops and houses lining each side. The 2 middle lanes are dedicated lanes of busses that zoom past the slow traffic. After making a right turn to a narrow road, barely big enough for 2 cars, the car parks in front of the "Kensen Daishin" restaurant. A casual well lit and cozy restaurant that serves traditional Sherechian food. It is relatively small with only 6 tables though it is barely half full.

Salman is a curious Olmanar tourist that has been to many countries. He always brings his computer to write his adventures. He’s pretty scared of heights, and he has heard that the Sakhatkhorgo Airport is not the best. So, he’s traveled by the Aruday - Sakhatkhorgo train.

Salman arrives at Sakhatkhorgo Station at the heart of the city. The station is a hybrid of modern and brutalist architecture with exposed concrete walls however the inside is pretty charming with many shops and restaurants. The blue Khaigandai high-speed train stops at the platform and Salman exits the train.

From here Salman has several options to get around. Below the station is a subway stop and outside is a bus terminal.

Francine did not want to spend too much time at the airport, also given the approaching bad weather. She wanted to get to the three-star hotel with the unpronounceable name where she had booked a room as soon as possible. It was located in a slightly peripheral area of the city of Sakhatkhorgo but perhaps it would not have been a big problem. Public transport in this country seems very well organized, as it saw a bus passing every five minutes or less. And they even have a fast lanes! The only thing was to see if you could buy the ticket from the driver.
She bought the plastic package with the leaves from the vending machine, opened it and put one of the leaves in her mouth. It tasted very bitter but was no different from chewing tobacco.
Feeling a little better, the woman headed for the bus stop.

Francine arrives in the bus stop. To call it a bus stop would be an insult since it looks more like a station. It even has platform screen doors. Passengers would wait in a climate-controlled room with a large glass window overlooking the bus lanes outside, a bus would arrive and the glass platform screen doors would open, just like a subway. Another similarity to the subway is the usage of high platform stations and busses.

Unfortunately for here, she can't actually enter the bus station. Like riding the subway, she must buy a plastic card that can be tapped so that the gates would open. Fortunately, there is a counter nearby with a person that selling the cards.

Salman doesn’t have much money(Just enough for the necessities and a few souvenirs if he can save some money), so he takes a bus to one of the small, cramped but cheap hotels. While on the bus, he opens his computer to write. But before he can start, he sees that he has reached his destination. He closes his laptop, sprints and exits the bus before it moves. He enters the hotel, gets his keys, runs to his room, enters it and finally lies on his bed. He plans to go to Lake Chida to fish and relax(It’s one of his hobbies).

Salman lays down on the third floor of the Chudo Sanlak hotel, slightly north of Sakhatkhorgo station. The view out the window is of the busy street below. Many food vendors and pedestrians pass by the 2 lane road, some even spilling over into the road as drivers slowly navigate the street filled with professional jaywalkers. The room itself has a single bed and a shower and thats about it. Still, at least it's clean, well lit, and has this cozy minimalist design to it with white walls, some with wood panels, a beige bed, and warm-colored lighting.

While modest, the hotel has a ramen shop at the ground floor. A shop that sells fishing equipment exists within a 200 meter walk from the hotel.
