Welcome to the Lafitos Defense Organization General Assembly!

Here we debate resolutions, vote on them, and handle the day-to-day workings of the alliance. We handle a myriad of issues, like economic development, military strength, foreign policy. That's not all though, and, assuming you're a member, it's up to you what issues we'll be covering!

CURRENTLY AT VOTE: NONE; ELECTION CANDIDACY DECLARATION

[South Americanastan]

The South Americanastanian representative, Daniel Mikaelson, steps up to the podium.

"Welcome, fellow representatives, to the LDO. Usually, this would be when I give a speech, celebrating the establishment of our organization. But there is no time for that, there is work to be done and we must lay the groundwork for our future. Which is why I am proposing four bills to be placed in the queue"

MILITARY COOPERATION ACT
Voting Period: 4 Days

ACKNOWLEDGING The need for mutual military cooperation in the face of threats to peace across the globe

NOTING The success of previous alliances through military cooperation, as in ICDN and CUSP

UNDERSTANDING That to form a cohesive alliance, cooperation between militaries is needed

FURTHER UNDERSTANDING that the LDO faces many threats, and must cooperate to defend itself from these threats

HEREBY:

1. Obliges the LDO to hold a Joint Military Exercise between its participants at least once a year

2. Establishes an Office of Military Coordination and Peacekeeping, to be headed by a Commander of Military Coordination and Peacekeeping

3. Empowers the Office of Military Coordination to:

3a. Organize peacekeeping operations for approval by the General Assembly

3b. Lead peacekeeping operations that have been approved by the General Assembly

3c. Organize military exercises between the armed forces of member and observer states

4. Allows for election of a Commander of Military Coordination and Peacekeeping

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ACT
Voting Period: 4 Days

NOTING The need for a strong economy to improve the lives of citizens

ACKNOWLEDGING That some nations are less developed than others

UNDERSTANDING That said nations need economic assistance

FURTHER UNDERSTANDING That free trade improves the economy of all involved

HEREBY:

1. Creates an Office of Economic Development, headed by an Officer of Economic Development

2. Empowers the Office of Economic Development to:

2a. Allocate the economic resources of the LDO to help underdeveloped nations

2b. Execute economic policy passed by the General Assembly

3. Allows for an election for the Officer of Economic Development by the General Assembly, to be organized at a later date

4. Requires that all member nations remove tariffs and taxes on goods imported from and exported to fellow member states

FOREIGN AFFAIRS ACT
Voting Period: 4 Days

UNDERSTANDING That holding foreign relations with other organizations and nations are vital to the function of an organization like the LDO

NOTING That peaceful negotiations are much preferable to conflict

APPALLED At the violent and turbulous state of world affairs

ACKNOWLEDGING That to navigate the current state of world affairs, a functioning foreign affairs office is needed.

HEREBY:

1. Obliges the LDO to seek peaceful solutions when possible, with the exception of situations deemed extraordinary by the General Assembly

2. Establishes an Office of Foreign Affairs, lead by a Chief Diplomat

3. Empowers the Office of Foreign Affairs to:

3a. Handle communications with foreign entities

3b. Negotiate treaties to be ratified by the General Assembly

3c. Propose offensive declarations of war to be ratified by a supermajority of the General Assembly

3d. Issue reciprocatory declarations of war in response to declarations of war on the LDO without vote

4. Allows for elections for Chief Diplomat, to be organized at a later date.

John Dave: Hello my Comrades, I'm here to represent The United Republic of The King Isle, it is an honour to be sitting with you, I'm John Dave and I was sent by the Kingmen Government to represent an entire Country.

Karl Scholz, the Trenakan Delegate to the LDO, enters the room.

"I vote Aye on the Economic Development Act."

The Hopalian Representative Hans-Martin Beck takes his seat in the chamber.

He would speak when called upon; "Thank you for having me here today, it is a pleasure to be here. Some of you may know me from previous work as the Hopalian Deputy Representative to the ICDN. I've now been appointed as the Hopalian Representative to this chamber, as Hopal has been granted Observer status to this organization, which we know was created to contest the legacy of the ICDN. My government did not want to be involved in that dispute and questions the doctrine of military intervention. But still we feel that the ties to the ICDN and to some of the members of this organization are strong, and that the principles of free trade and mutual defence are ones that my government are very much favourable to. And so the government of Hopal is currently considering an application of membership to this organization and I have been assigned Representative to this organization and will gather information, make observations, and help the government to consider whether or not to apply for membership to this organization. I thank you for time and I yield the floor."

Ambrosios Lola, The Arvan representative to LDO, walks in sits down at his desk and makes this statement:

Hello fellow LDO representatives,
I am Ambrosios Lola from Arvan Irawer. Some of you may know my college Evy Krall, I hope we can have as good of a relationship as you had with her. I also extend that hope of good relationships to those who did not know Ms Krall. Furthermore, I and the whole of Arvan Irawer hopes, that LDO can grow and continue, that all nations here can have good relationships and all can prosper while helping others and not falling into the traps of greed. Thank you.

After sitting down, he votes AYE for the Economic Development Act.

“This is the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Trenaka, Liam Schwartz. He served under the two previous Presidents for a total of 16 years. I nominate him for the role of Chief Diplomat,” said the Trenakan representative.

"South Americanastan would like to nominate retired Field Marshal Jack Callahan for the position of Commander of Military Coordination and Peacekeeping. He's directed successful campaigns in Ethiopia, Ceylon, and Angola, and has spent a total of 23 years in the SADF before retirement, including his first 2 in national service as an enlisted soldier."

"Countesia officially backs the candidates Trenaka and South Americanastan have put forward for Chief Diplomat and Commander of Military Coordination and Peacekeeping."

"Also, I am currently in the process of drafting an act to establish an international law enforcement agency between LDO member states. Expect that to be put forward once we have finished electing for internal positions"
