Other information (optional): slavery has long played a role in Vanaian culture, however modernization has reduced it significantly. Most bonded workers either work for the Emperor or a religious institution. The status of bondsman is no longer inherited, and the government argues that it is voluntary entered into. Criminals are also often sentenced to hard labour. Since priests and certain government officials were traditionally slaves, these positions are held up as the examples of what bondage in Vana Ptang Looks like. There is also a lot of unsanctioned informal bondage, mostly in rural areas but also in the houses of the elite. The reality is that most of those in bondage make up the bottom rung of society, work hard under poor conditions and would rather do something else.

To The Emir of Dar Al Badw:

We regret to inform you and the other members of this once noble alliance that in light of recent events, we must consider this alliance and our commits to it, absolved. In order to fulfill our commitments, we have mobilized 2,000 troops and offered asylum to the late Emir. Unfortunately, the Emir was lost enroute and is missing and presumed dead. His heir has since then fled the country, whose capital has fallen and whose people are in rebellion. All this in a matter of days. We are shocked and appalled by the fate of Dar Al Badw, but can at this point can do no more.

If we thought that it would help, would we offer to meditate between the Emirate and the Fenwicks. However, we see that our participation in such an enterprise would be counter productive. Thus, in memory of our former alliance and present friendship we open our borders to the Emir, his family and his supporters.
