"We appreciate the offer Your Highness, but we won't be staying for too long and the Chancellor has told me the resort is quite lovely as well." Ariadna smiled all the while she added to herself how the woman besides her on the left was completely also keen on other personal reasons as well.

The rest of the situation was certainly something they wished to keep an eye, but they did also knew she had a point; it would take nothing short of an disaster for a war to break out. An apology will be required, and that's where this whole issue will lie, either Marcella Villa keeps her head up against the current situation and rival, or does she steps back and takes a decision that would save face for everyone involved? After all she's saying there's nothing to discuss, when there's a lot in stake strategically and politically speaking to all involved if not on foreign politics, then national ones.
Shock was expected by the sarcastic smile of a woman which didn't seem to be that way on their eyes, this situation letting out, or what appeared to be letting out, an cynical side. Clearly believing the possibility of an intimidation tactic by the whole fireworks show they were also felt in the Embassy Isle; Embassy personnel was forced to take shelter by the magnitude since it felt like an earthquake, the sensors warned of the magnitude and it was after five minutes that the false alarm was discovered.

The Chancellor spoke after that, an smile that was polite, yet it was easily able to feel that she wasn't pleased with any of this.

"I will admit that it is more than possible an apology and compensation will be what the Kyrenaian Government will want during the mediation, however, please take in mind we will also make sure that they won't exceed the certain guidelines that could be established." She looked at the Duchess to eyes. "It is on our interests and of everyone else that an agreement is found between the two parties and not an humilliation; what happened on that base could either be an message or the only other way they had to do a quick dismantling of the base, please bear in mind Your Highness that considering the current climate and the scramble over who will take the land, it is possible that they could had also done it to complicate whoever will be the new owner of that leased land." And they did had a possible candidate of which nation that could had been targeted if that was the idea.

Then she just sighed, shaking her head as she decided to just confess her reason at least.

"I will admit that I also have a personal reason as well about why I want this to solve on a peaceful manner, Lady Marcella." The Chancellor, no, Jessica spoke; her gaze softening as she did. "You are surely well briefed that my daughter is married to an Islander, my daughter in law; how they are also citzens of our nations and how I value the lives of them. Those two are everything to me like my husband is to as well." An smile begun to form in her lips as she kept on.

"Ever since she married that girl, my daughter has been enjoying with the highs and lows one might expect of an long distance relationship to be part of the story of the woman she loves, we welcomed her with open arms to our family and we are glad they can be happy together either here or in Mervay." A beat passed as tension filled her, that moment she moved on very well and how she feared if it would repeat here.

"I fear for their safety should this whole debacle continue Your Highness. I know well there are memories she would rather forget and those are of a woman on bedridden that many thought wouldn't make it..." That was something she didn't wanted to continue, the whole point already established. "The point is Lady Marcella, that I hope you understand well the implications this could have to even those that aren't part of this scandal between you and The Sultana, war won't happen, that is a point established. Yet, in your opinion what would happen if this spiral out the grasp of everyone? What would be the consequences of a bad move if this falls into something one does not want to imagine? This will have consequences Your Highness; we are yet to see how far reaching and harsh will they be..."

Tea had always helped to calm your nerves on the worst moments, now, she just really needed it after having such breakdown. For sure it wasn't her greatest moment, but with all this mess, who could blame her? After all, for Tess Catherine Dileva (and now Fujimiya as well) who would had thought the worst case scenario would be possible, sure, she understood they had to leave; but, couldn't they had asked for an extension rather than blow the whole base?? It would had at least saved everyone the worry and wouldn't made theories of what could follow rise from that madness.
Yet even with that, she was set keen on staying for her wife's sake until things were truly dangerous; she didn't wanted a false alarm to have everything up and down, not now...

She just sighed.

"Sorry for the outburst sweetie, it's just those are memories I would rather forget." She sighed, it was indeed something no one on her family wanted to deal with again. "To think they would surface now of all times... Anyway. You understood well my reasons to not leave just yet, right?"

"That sounds like a reasonable agreement, I shall look forward to seeing what you can bring to the table, with you as mediators. I truly can't imagine this getting any worse. As much as I've grown cold towards her, I've always known the Sultana to be fairly firm and level headed. Compared to me, certainly, being as impudent as I let myself become." Of course she had a point, the Chancellor's daughter now a citizen by rite of marriage and that meant now under Marcella's care so to speak. How truly bad things could be if something happened to her as a result of this mess. More and more Marcella began to feel a bit of defeat creeping, just a matter of time before she had to relent but still, the issue of Kyre's explosive exit, left her feeling uneasy as well as not knowing what Kyre's demands would be from her.

"Your daughter, is now one of my citizens through her marriage to another islander, thus I feel just as responsible for her as all those born on our soil or to families abroad. Milady Chancellor, I want to assure you, as foolish and half-witted as I was to get into this mess, I'll know when it's time to accept what's coming to me" AHSCA certainly had it's allies to depend on, Lamoni, Holy Marsh and Mokastana, whom have voiced at least support in this time and keeping the lions at bay but last thing she wanted to do, was drag them into a war on her own stupidity. "I want to hear what they have to say, with Mervay helping, I do have high hopes we'll all walk away from this with little more fuss. Now, is there anything more you want to discuss with me today? Otherwise I can have a couple of my Knights escort you to your inn."

"Oh don't be sorry." Satou nuzzled her face against Tess' own, being close to her certainly made her feel better "I think we're all just a little on edge over this. Many of the gals at work certainly are. I am too but I think we'll get through this, just as the UIS got through the war, this too will pass. Really, whatever you want to do, I'll do it with you. If you want to go back to Mervay a while, we can, or we can stay. Just let me know what you'd like." After all they did have her family to also think of, Satou certainly cared about Tess' s family just as much.

Aurora Public Bathhouse - Evening

The Kitan is famous for more luxury kind of baths at a decent cost (well to an islander) so the more utilitarian and cost friendly (but not as private and quiet) there was the more public bathhouse but well when you're a woman of the people as Setsuko Fujihara is, well the public is probably the best. A day at the end of another busy session of Congress, the news was plenty abuzz in this whole situation well right now was the time to forget that for a bit and soak the day away, honestly more politicans oughta try this. Plenty crowded with hordes of people gathering to do the same so she hoped she'd get a nice little spot that could be a little relaxing. Children were great, she certainly wanted them, but they can be noisy at times. Well at least her hope was that but it was about to be dashed with one of her colleagues, Senator Kiri Whatitiri from neighboring Hoshino, showing up in the same changing room. "Oh Senator, good evening." Setsuko wished to Kiri

"Heya, fancy seeing you here" Kiri fanged this as a funny coincidence but she had a purpose "Though great timing because I wanted to talk to you"

"If it's about sponsoring or co-signing onto a proposal of yours, can't it wait until tomorrow? I'm really hoping to just relax for the evening."

"I had wanted to but then I saw the evening paper." she held up a newspaper she grabbed from the entrance, it was the Hanasaku Press, a smaller independent newspaper, not always known for being accurate but not maliciously out to lie either, usually. "Has there really been that much more news since this morning?" Setsuko finished packing everything into a storage box and prepared to head to the pools of hot water eagerly calling her name.

"Why yes, yes there is." Kiri began walking along side her "If you don't wanna read it than let me sum up, a letter got out, a letter that the dear Kyrenain Princess Aurelia wrote to another. Even in her letter she thinks the Duchess is a fool."

"Well perhaps but the Hanasaku Press isn't known for being the most accurate source."

"You trust it less than a state ran press with a minister appointed by the Duchess more than an independent news outlet?"

"I agree the Duchess maybe has too much invested in the State ran media but in case you forgot, my party position tends to advocate for more state intervention."

"Sure sure but still, rotten at the core rotten on the surface." They continued talking as they settled into the hot water together. "You and I have a common goal, we both don't like the current head at the top right?"

"Common yes but different motives. I'd rather restore power to the people, I think you're more status quo."

"A bit, but I'm flexible. I just want her grubby paws off the rights of states and our constitution. This whole debacle is what I've been waiting for to finally kick her from the top. You and I could propose an impeachment or vote of no confidence."

"You're really saying we should invoke that?"

"I am. I can't do it alone though, I need someone who is just as radical as me."

"Why not get your fellow State Senator onboard?"

"Ah I tried, he lacks a spine to do anything though."

"Still, what can we get her on? What she did isn't against the law. Stupid perhaps but hardly against the Constitution or the State."

"She's playing a game of chicken. Steering us towards another ship hoping the other moves first. I fear she's gonna slam us on the rocks first."

"I thought you were a farmer, what's with all the nautical metaphors?"

"Practicing I suppose for the senators that only speak in naval terms and for our pink Duchess. Not saying we gotta draft it tonight and present it tomorrow. We can wait and see more how this plays out. Fine, I really doubt this will amount to much beyond a few bad words being thrown back and fort but a chance like this only comes along once in a generation."

Setsuko sighed almost perfectly in time with a crash of thunder. "Oh, looks like rain tonight hey?" Kiri chimed in merrily, no sense in letting silence takeover

"You're worried about getting her out but I'm also worried about the greater ramifications."

"Like what?"

"The rest of the world?"

"Ah that old excuse for inaction? The rest of the world doesn't give a rat's ass what we do anymore. The old powers have all but forgotten us for greener pastures elsewhere. We're brine shrimp now, Stevid sure as hell don't care about us to waste a military campaign on us. Besides we have an order of succession built in for these contingencies."

"This have never been tried before, Kiri."

"oooh on a first name basis now? Hahahahha" Kiri cackled, Setsuko side glanced at her, honestly she was a little annoying, Setsuko thought. "Okay I can call you Setsuko then?"

"If you must."

"I know you think of me as a bit of a hick but we can get along very well I think. Perhaps you and I could really talk things over tonight? I mean really talk things over?"

"W-wait I thought this was just a conversation now you're talking that?"

"Hahaha well a Senator away from her family does get a little lonely. It worked for our two Coronan senators too. Surely you think so."

"Eeeh" Her cheeks were read maybe from the water or Kiri's implications. "I can't help but feel you'll use that against me if I refuse in the end?"

"Would I? Surely you don't think so little of me. Hey either way give it thought. And I mean give it a lot of thought. And remember it's not against the rules" she winked back at Setsuko. "I think the heat is getting to me already. A hot bath does wonders. But I'm gonna cool off by enjoying the evening rain. Senator, I'll see you tomorrow. And like I said, no great rush."

Now left to think about it some more in solace Setsuko wondered, could they really pull off a vote of no confidence? Frankly even if they did, would they have the votes to get rid of The Duchess? Such a vote required 3/4ths in Congress (so at least 7 of 10 Senators) and every state Leader (save Aurora) to agree. Certainly, Stillestando was eager to get rid of the Duchess the others, probably not but it would be a real stunt to pull off, maybe it'd even garner more support for Setsuko's idealistic commune of AHSCA, even if slowly. Her seeds of revolution were more about changing the hearts and minds of people to be rid of their monarchy more than topple a leader out. But this wouldn't be a violent coup, it'd be the law, the law outlined in the wake of their bloody struggle for independence. Well she didn't have to do it tomorrow or the next day, maybe a bit later. For now she'd lay back and enjoy being alone with just her thoughts.

Utica

Their patients in waiting paid off because they were finally approached by someone they didn't recognize but she clearly recognized them. She clearly was playing up, whether that meant they were being watched or she really was just covering her base was unknown but either way it was good to be on the safe side. "Hey, great to see you too!" I.F. feigned her enthusiasm to see this woman she in fact never really met before. When she sat down she whispered code to them. Yup she was one of them all right, well that was good, it would be worse if she was actually an enemy.

The code were for their dead drops where they would convey and get new information on their mission. That probably meant things were escalating, their directive was to listen and observe from the point of the general public, get a beat on the press but with this outreach, chances are it was a change.

"Yeah that sounds great." Faria said.

Naofumi asked "Maybe you can give us directions? It is our first time here after all."

Utica

"I can, one needs to find something to do in the city to pass the time, doesn't it?" replies Alima with a smile, before taking out a small piece of paper from her pants pocket and slides it on the table, in the view of the three Shadow Knights operatives.

The Household of Grand Vizier Mahmut al-Zahir searches for a Handmaiden well-versed in the handling of flowers, specifically of flowers from tropical climates. The Handmaiden in question will mostly be occupied in the Greenhouses of the Darqaeidin Palace, but can, if need arises, be drafted to work in other areas of the gardens.
Payment in accordance to the tariffs, unless prior active experience can be proven. Good looks optional, but preferred.

"This job offer came in the Utica Herald this morning." continues the ACI handler with a more serious tone, to show her colleagues she's now talking business.
"It's well known around here the upper echelons of society do not hire anyone off the streets to work for them, especially the Handmaidens. Having been trained in an academy and having a reputation are two key factors that are required. So we will not be able to use that.

But this," she says as she lightly taps the piece of paper, "is more along our lines. A Household ranked low enough to not have the same standards as the Ilkhans or the Big Boss, but high enough to be associated with them and the circles of politics and influence of the Capital."

"So, I have to ask, which one of you or your colleagues who are not here with us know enough about gardening and tropical flowers to be able to apply for the job?" asks

In the private conference room a few meters away from Marcella office, Daniel Vincao sits with his laptop opened on the table, as the listening device under Marcella's chair record everything, and coupled with a text-to-speech software, writes down everything that is said, and by whom it is said.

"Man, I'm having a field day." chuckles the Astarian Ambassador in a low voiceas he sees the text being written on his screen, while he listens too in headphones...

"Huh..." sighs Adrean as he sits at his desk, looking through the various documents related to the current diplomatic affair on his screen. "Shit's getting piled up more and more. I hope it will stop soon enough."

"Yeah, me too." replies Anna as she crosses her arm and leans back in her chair, before pushing a bit backwards with her legs to get some space between her and her desk."
"But with another release of sensitive informations to the yellow press, I hope it will not add more unecesary fuel to the fire."

"Either if it does or not, the only thing we can do is adapt Honey." reminds Adrean to his wife. "Personally though, now that we know what was said in the letters, I think Marcella gave up too easily. on Aurelia."

"Yeah, you're right. We'll talk about it later if you don't mind." answers the Keisaerina with a sigh, before taking a sip of her tea mug. "What do you think we should do? I was thinking about sending a letter to Marcella, and maybe tell her to write an apology to Razia, now that we've seen that the Kyrenaians are not out looking for war."

"Goo idea Anna. With Mervay mediating, I hope things will go smoothly. We can't hide it, with our current involvment in Geonal, the Imperium can not afford total war in AHSCA. So yeah, maybe we should try to convince Marcella to give a bait of apology to Razia, and see how the Old Dreadnought reacts."

"Then let's get to it." finishes the Keisaerina, before opening her text software on her computer, while her husband does the same...

Diplomatic affair between the UIS and the Sultanate

Encryption:Maximum

Dear Marcella,

we hope this letter finds you in good health. The past few days have not been nice for us, and we suppose it's the same for you too, as well as all the parties involved in this crisis.

According to our intelligence analysts and planners, it seems that the event of a war between the UIS and the Sultanate is close to zero. However, as you have seen in one of the recent Kyrenaian press releases, the Sultana will certainly ask for compensation. We trust that the Kingdom of Mervay will do its possible to mediate the situation fairly for both parties.

Still, Marcella, be cautious. As you may have heard, the Kyrenaian yellow press released sensitive letters that you wrote to Aurelia, and that she wrote back, to the public. And according to the article of The Sun's Review, they do not support you, which puts you even lower in the Kyrenaian public opinion.

So, in light of all this, we can only suggest you one thing Marcella: write an apology letter to the Sultana, in person.
"An admitted fault is halfway forgiven" says an old Astarian proverb. If you write a letter and apologize, maybe this could lead the Sultana to become more mellow and more willing to ask for less in return.
And since the RKN base explosion did quite some noise in Aurora, like many UIS citizens, we fear this may very well be a warning or a veiled threat.

Of course, the final decision to send this letter or not remains in your hands. But based on our experience, we can only insist for you to do it. At the very least, it could act as a bait to show what Razia really has in mind for the UIS.

Kind regards,
Adrean and Anna.

Dear Duchess,

I write this letter to you not as a politician or head of state but as someone with political experience wishing to provide a few words of advice. I am not in the habit of making assumptions, but I think I know how you feel right now. Betrayed, for one thing. When I asked Aurelia what she thought of you as a politician I trusted her to respond truthfully and impartially, and I feel that she did so. I will not comment on the troubles in your personal relationship with her, but I will say this with regards to her opinion of you: there is a certain cold-blooded rationality you need to develop in order to survive in the political world, and being able to separate the personal from the professional is a major element of that. If you will allow me to speak frankly, Duchess, you cannot win here. Your first option is to apologize to the Sultana, personally and face-to-face. Doing so would send the message that you are both serious about said apology and genuine in it. A letter would not be advisable: Razia is a clever woman, and she knows that paper may lie but actions and body language speak the truth. Your other option is to stay stubbornly dug in as you are doing now, and that may lead you and your country down a dangerous path. You have chosen to play an old wolf's game with a young pup's experience, and I fear your opponents may be about to teach you a painful lesson. Your choices are yours to make, Duchess, but I will close by reminding you that it never killed anyone to bend the knee and there is no shame in admitting your mistakes.

Respectfully yours,
Thomas Cärrino, Emperor

Mervayan Delegation
Ducal Palace, Aurora Village

With AHSCA on board now that it can be found, negotiations would begin sooner or later; the government would set up a venue for the event in order to make sure that neither side meet on their home soil, but somewhere neutral for this diplomatic mediation to happen and since the nation was acting as mediator it was obvious it would have to be on Mervay. It will be an massive task, but, the situation will be solved with everyone keeping their cool.
Then after they had the Islander Government on board, the conversation turned a bit more personal as the Chancellor told her about the situation with her daughter. The long haired dark greened woman just sighed fondly before smiling.

"I'm glad to hear that Your Highness, I appreciate this. Thank you." As soon as she said that, she; smiled, warmly smiled at the duchess before getting up with the rest of the delegation after a moment of silence. The Princess looked at her companions and they both nodded.

"We will prepare everything for the mediation to happen, however shall it be necessary; we will organize an summit in Mervayan Soil rather than the possible videochat or having such event take place in either of the affected nations. An communique exclusively sent by Ambassador Bellrose will bring you the respective details as soon as that is arranged." The Princess spoke, a quick glare and the Ambassador nodded, confirming she was indeed to be bringing the respective details.

"I wish to add as well Your Highness, that we would like that as soon as it is possible; an confirmation is given to the media on which it is stated that the current situation is to be mediated." The Ambassador spoke, ending the wishes required before continuing with something that wasn't to be forgotten. "Of course, we will also send you an special communique where it is stated that The Sultanate has confirmed or not the mediation?" Before anything else could said, Jessica interrupted the conversation, the chancellor speaking in German, courtesy of the massive German Speaking population around the nation native from the Osean Region.

The words exchanged won't be said, but the look of the two ladies besides the foreign minister said it all; surprise and a bit of shock around there. Those faces and expressions would then swich to an understanding smile and a kind nod. Lady Bellrose smiled, pushing her hand in an stop signal to her superior and resumed.

"The Chancellor wishes to extend her gratitude to offer, but compared to Her Highness, she will have to pass. It will be grateful if the knights escort Princess Circe to the resort as the Chancellor has a personal matter to attend to."

Satou's touch and warm did comforted Tess, it felt, relaxing and peaceful. An quite rest from that mess, and she wished that it didn't had to be cut when all that has been happening made her nervious; the fact she heard the whole explosion as well said it all, in fact the Kyrenaians only needed to tune the 1812 Overture and it might as well pass as an movie scene!
It was only after a moment that she came to her choice...

"I think that also counts to you as well Sweetie." She smiled, her eyes glaring at her wife's beautiful face. "You are to choose as well on this; I personally think that for a while we might stay, if only for a while." She was planning on returning to Mervay with Satou around late july to august so they spend a while there before she had to return to college for her final exams and Satou for the festival; in fact. The whole autumn season might be spent on her exams and obtaining her degree and the doctorate she was working on. "You know, we might also make the most of this before returning back to Mervay since I wanted to spend a while with you before returning back to Mervay around late July and enjoy what little remained of summer before autumn begins and you have to get back for the festival."

Dear Emperor Thomas,

as somebody growing up with the wise guidance of my Father and of my Grandmother but a stone's throw away, I would not hold it against you to quote yourself. Wisdom is a noble pursuit, one, which can lead back to the own steps.

As for Marcella... I, too, hope, that she blinks – if first or not does not matter. She must be terrified.
That she has not folded yet tells me two things: Either she listens to the wrong people, and we both know, who that is as it is simply not in the character of her officers to be so stubborn, or her pride is getting the better of her. That she does not see what is right in front of her eyes, that was one of the problems we had in our relationship from time to time, so my bet is on the former.
I do not wish to go into too much detail, so please allow me this reference and be done with it.
In the end, many people have their own little interests at heart. Let's hope, that the UIS as we know isn't ground up between those interests and their holders.

With a kind hug,
Aurelia bint-Damir,
Princess of the Ilkhanate of Utica and Beyeha of Malakiard.

P.S.: Even if we don't always see things eye to eye, I do admit, that my Grandmother is a wise woman. She is also a proud woman. A very dangerous combination, at least around here.
Dear Princess Aurelia,

I assume that the Mervayans are on board as mediators by now- I do not know for certain, to my knowledge our intelligence agency does not currently have boots on the ground in either Mervay or Kyrenaia -and we can only hope that a neutral party will be able to level the playing field. Or if not level it, at least smooth it out and dispose of its land mines. I would imagine that there are equal amounts of pride and outside influence (I'm sure we both know which two people that means), but as the days go by I feel that the Duchess will realize she does not really have any other option than apologizing. For her country's own good if for no other reason, as the UIS needs the Sultanate far more than the Sultanate needs the UIS. I hate to close on a negative note, but I feel I must mention the Sun's Review. When I asked your opinion of her as a politician, it was with the expectation that you would answer fairly and truthfully and I feel that you did so. Needless to say it was also with the expectation that our correspondence would remain private, but apparently nothing is sacred anymore. This exposure will hurt the Duchess even more, I fear, but I am confident that this unpleasant period will be resolved soon enough.

Aurora Ducal Palace

"I'd hate to put so much trouble towards Mervay's people by calling a summit but if it comes to that I would agree wholly." A soft knock on her door as her chamberlain Yoshi poked in "Begging your pardon, Milady, just wanted to inform you Officer Gozen is here."

"Thank you, please tell her I'll be a few."

"Certainly."

"Speaking of, my Information Officer is here so I'll be speaking with her on this too to arrange any needed press announcements. I'll be awaiting your response from the Sultanate to me as well. Milady Chancellor are you certain you don't wish for an accompaniment? I understand though wholly, it is your choice to make though. I shall ensure Her Grace's safe escort in the meantime, we look forward to having you as a guest in our country."

How can she not love this woman to pieces? It certainly would be easy to do as Tess wants, considering her family line is so important but Tess valued what Satou had to say. Still, Satou could only say she was split because well she wanted to do what her wife wanted on this but well good to get it out, "I would hope to stay and ride this out. I know I said I'm a bit scared but I still have faith things will work out well. Your country is getting involved, I'm certain everyone will be able to walk away from this all in the end. Really, if you're okay with it, let's stay a little longer before you go back to school in Mervay." she parted a few strands of hair from Tess' forehead. "But again, if you change your mind, I'll go with you. Even then, I'm sure we'd have the festival together. " If not then oh well, what's one festival anyway? There would be future ones. "Anyway, do you want me to stay with you a while? Manager said she'd understand if I had to take the day, we're well covered and not that terribly busy right now.

Your Highness,

Thank you very much for your kind words and advice. The coming few weeks will be... to describe them as trying sounds like an understatement, but it is the best word that comes to hand. Perhaps the reaction in the media will be milder than I fear. Our news organizations seem to labor still under the delusion that I am my father and he had a rather low tolerance for dissent or criticism, so their institutional trauma may work in the Crown's favor. No day goes by during which I do not wish my late wife were still alive, but this is a period in which Arabella's advice and maternal warmth would have been worth more than their weight in gold to myself and Marco; mercifully my daughter Helena seems to have inherited her even temper and wisdom. Thank the gods one of my children did. I am flattered to hear that Aurelia likes me. I truly respect her, your daughter has been through things nobody should have to go through at her age. Marco is hardly the son that I expected I would have and mercifully he is not the son I feared I would have (that dishonor would go to a son like my older brother Alerik, a man whose only overall contributions to his country were having the decency to pay his gambling debts and die), but I am nevertheless greatly proud of him. As for your daughter and my son, should she look behind the flashy car, the mercurial temperament, and maybe a certain vanity in dress & grooming she will find a genuinely kind and generous young man with a heart of gold to whom life has occasionally dealt a very bad hand of cards. Draw your own conclusions as you will.

Respectfully yours,
Thomas Cärrino, Emperor

P.S. He asked me to send you his regards as well, and seemed to find some comfort in your remark about being afraid.

Your Highness,
I conclude, that he and Aurelia would get along well, for I am proud of my daughter and her big heart and her beautiful soul. He might see those without looking past anything, for Aurelia wears her heart on her sleeve – an art, which has brought her many friends and just as many foes, and a weakpoint, which she managed to make into her strength.

Sometimes, I wonder. You might know, that she was born to a Selkie-woman, Marla Taistealaí of the Tribe of Louth, and out of wedlock – what would have been, if I hadn't been a coward and if I had asked Marla to marry me, if she would have agreed and if Aurelia would have grown up in Utica or Motya or wherever else we would have settled down?
I love Yasmin and I love Dschafar, my wife and my son, I love them as much as I love Marla and Aurelia, but sometimes, in dark hours of the night, I can't help but wonder. And the funniest part is, that Yasmin knows of these thoughts and she, as a woman, who never even met Marla, predicted she would do the same as Aurelia predicted: That Marla, on that day in Aurora, would have taken Mother's head and split Marcella's desk in half with it.
My apologies for rambling on you.

I remain respectfully yours,
Damir ibn-Razia,
Rajalkim, Bey of Mawjayi and Khalsamak.

Dear Emperor Thomas,

my apologies, but I have been in Malakiard ever since we returned from the UIS, occupied by ruling my little plot of land and by a visitor, so I am a bit out of the loop of the inner workings. We have to wait for the corresponding press releases. I hope, however, that both my Grandmother and Marcella see reason and agree to at least meet.
And I hope, that our very special friends will not be part of that meeting.

As for Marcella – the Sun's Review released a letter, in which I said, that she was an inexperienced idiot, who got in way over her head. It released it to read for everyone, who had a halfway decent internet connection. It must hurt her, rip her heart out, that not even I trust her to handle the situation. No matter what her inner and outer opponents say, this fact alone will hurt her more then any insult she could receive.
Allow me to add, that the one responsible will be put to justice. Sadly, this justice will not involve an axe, but one can not have everything in life.

With a kind hug,
Aurelia bint-Damir,
Princess of the Ilkhanate of Utica and Beyeha of Malakiard.

P.S.: If I were to be honest, when You describe it like that, I certainly will do anything in my power to prevent the two from meeting... otherwise, we might have to see, if you are faster then my horse. ; )

He was not expecting that, Luciano wasn't expecting it at all. That letter was just... Dear god. What did Marcella Villa just did was; wow. Yet, he had the feeling this wasn't the whole story behind the letters, like if it remained something else to see and that was... Aurelia's reaction. Yet, he knew why The Old Dreaghnout (which he now knows why is she called like that) would say something like that; he knew that a person in love wouldn't give in so easily and he was witness of that and knew people of that style; and he also knew how Aurelia Bint-Damir risked everything for Marcella. Only for the letter to show that she just gave up, that this fight was lost and that... They should move on.
He would consider it anti-climatic, yes; but also an insult and without a doubt as he inherited the same passion and love his sisters had, he would had said the same and yelled to not give up the fight and only give up when nothing more can be done to cry when it's all over.

"I know... How that feels." He sighed, he knew it well. "My older sister, my twin, suffered the same as Princess Aurelia did like that, the person she loved broke up with her; he just told her to leave it all behind. Heh, like if that was easy..." The nerve of him; he personally went to give him a piece of his mind to that bastard and he wasn't the only one. The Prince might had never felt it personally, but he did witnessed it and was hit as well.

"To think that would be all what she had to say... Weren't they close to marry each other? Because if so and this is how one will react to the heartbreak, either she moved on easily at the cost of the heartche one will suffer when the time comes for an look in-depth; or. It was clear that the relationship might had been going south because of the struggles, like, like a desperate chance to turn it around and just be met by the Iceberg." His arms crossed as his eyes looked aside, the prince leaned on the chair as he said the next thing. "Yourself, being their greatest obstacle besides the whispers..." They whisper behind your back so you have to scream, an struggle and never ending game.

Silence filled him as the prince tried to find anything else to say, then he just decided to sigh before looking at The Sultana.

"Be assured we will mediate Your Majesty, but we will make sure both nations meet as equals and that neither try to turn the chance for an agreement for the humilliation of the other; we can only think of the national consequences and may someone forbid they extend internationally as well..." His gaze softened as he was to say something that could be tense. "As for Your Granddaughter, the best you could do besides that is perhaps give her the choice, it was their relationship after all, they have the right to end in another way than the one you propose; besides, I don't imagine she will be happy to hear you got involved in a battle of hers, not with all that happened and the, possible tensions that may linger from your involvement in breaking the relationship. I may be young Lady Razia, but I know well that this something she must solve to give any real clousure and it would at least make the road between you and your granddaughter easier to finally amend whatever damage your relationship suffered with her."

Agustinas Florenze Da Mervay
Altinyarat-Palace, Malakiard, Khanate of Khond

The subject of her relationship with the other families, friendship was what lied on it and that was the most; no family history nor branching, just them, and only them. No distant family or nothing, it was only them and her parents that remained; their grandparents from both sides sadly passed away a while ago and both of their parents were single childs so the idea of uncles was out of the question as well.
It was kind of truth, deep down she knew Aurelia was right, they were kind of alone. Lonely on top for her case.
Still that was one of the many subjects her mind was focused while the talk with Aurelia went and how she reacted a bit shy and undecided at the request of the Princess, her other thought was all regarding how beautiful Aurelia is and how much she heartche she had, perhaps someone would finally give her that warm ending she deserved and that one person would finally appear; yet, the thought made her heart throb faster, she pushed aside the feeling as she tried to not think about, it was rushed to think of that yet and she was her friend!

Of course that was thrown out the window as soon as the Princess begun to massage her, it was very pleasuring and something she really needed after all; Aurelia was certainly great at this like she said, the best thing was that this was a preview, so if she was calming her now then the main event would certainly make like if the whole problem will entirely pass away. She could also add how soft and gentle was Aurelia with her skin as well, it was all indeed mind-melting.
She then felt the Princess hugging her from behind all the while whispering into her ear if she liked it, it all startled her and made her heart beat even faster than it was already while her cheeks went red as a tomato; but, in a manner of a second and in a quick switch, she let out a teasing smile while a chuckle escaped her mouth, her blush dissapearing in a quick second or hiding it very well.

"Well I can say that you indeed are an expert and that the preview was excellent to say the least." She smiled, looking at her friend to the eyes as a hand carssed her cheek. "I will look foward to the main massage." She grinned before and almost got off the hug, before she decided against it. It felt, nice. She might had wanted to tease her friend, yet, the hug felt comfortable and enjoyable.

"You know... Part of me would had wished for me to come and visit you without having to use the pretense of an state meeting and just see you, as my friend and not with the whole formalities one might encounter, plus work has been stressing and while most matters are handled by the rest of government, the Premiership, Cabinet, Parliament and the whole system; when I got into something, I got deep on it or I had the public acts because of this being electoral year or even college to deal with, and I'm not joking in the last part you know?" That was another part she had as well, even if she begun college four years ago, but considering she wanted an PhD and so, she wanted to work hard and do it all right, without the pretences of her title giving her favouritism (Even if that was impossible and illegal by law).

"So, the fact this was the closest I could get makes me glad of that, yet sad that it had to be under such circunstances." Agus just sighed bittersweetly at the fact of why was her visit. "But I decided to come no matter what, to help you out and give you a shoulder to lean on now that you may as well be in need of Aurelia, you know what those who are considered close do for their friends, family or loved ones." She kept looking into her eyes as she kept caressing her.

"You know well that you can vent out on me you know, if that does help you then I will be glad to..."

Razia-Sultana Umm-Albilad.

I was silent for a long, long time after Pandereos had finished speaking.
I looked at him, watched him, my expression neutral.
Then I spoke: “I sometimes wonder, how Dschafar, my late husband, a commoner I came to love and who I fought for in front of my father until he literally fell over dead, would have dealt with this situation.” I indeed did so. I wondered. “He was quite the homophobe in his day, one of the only redeeming qualities my father saw in him, so how would he have dealt with Aurelia's first escapade gone public? How with her second? Would he have grown lenient with age or doubled down?” I shook my head. “I don't know. I do know, however, that you have a point – Aurelia needs closure. If that closure can be found with Marcella or not remains to be seen.”
I gave a sheepish smile.
“As you can imagine, she and I are not on good terms right now. 'Iceberg' might be a good metaphor... and yes, to my knowledge, Aurelia wanted to wait until the Change in the Law of Marriage had passed and Macella said so herself.”, I told him, “And I don't expect for my relationship with my Granddaughter to change any time soon. Maybe it is not my place to help her seeking that closure, however – maybe it is her Father and her Stepmother, who have to do that.” I shook my head. “Questions upon questions... dealing with international incidents seems like a cake walk compared to that!”
I let a beat pass.
“Speaking of which...”, I began, “...I understand Mervay's will to mediate and to find a solution to it, which humiliates no one. Believe me, I don't want to see Marcella humiliated either, despite it maybe being a valuable lesson to her. Hence, why I want her to ask for forgiveness, not to beg and why I want her to do that in person. If that is not to her liking, however, I am sure, that we can find other ways to compensate the Sultanate.”

Altinyarat-Palace, Malakiard, Khanate of Khond.
Princess Aurelia bint-Damir.

I saw Agus' blush and felt her heartbeat increase – had I gone too far?
The chuckle and teasing smile alleviate these concerns, her caressing my cheek and looking me in the eyes reassured me. Her words, her praise, made me blush lightly, which increased as Agus seemed to enjoy the hug as well.
Her words... her caressing... her gentleness...
“You know well that you can vent out on me you know, if that does help you then I will be glad to...”, she finished.
I pulled her closer, into a deeper hug, burying my face in the small of her neck.
Some might view the sight, two attractive, naked and wet women hugging, one caressing the other's cheeks, as an erotic sight, but for me... a life ring in a stormy ocean, if you will.
It was crazy... over the last few days, I had shared some quite intimate things with Emperor Thomas of Brettenwald (and, as I would soon find out, by treason with the world) and now I was this close to letting it all out on a dear friend of mine...
...oh, bugger it.
“Not many people visit me because they want to relax and unwind... quite the opposite in fact.”, I admitted to Agus, not surprised in the slightest that she was studying for a PhD – she had ambitions and so had I once I had finished my Service. “But I am glad, that you are here. Sarina is like a sister to me, but... I can't talk to her about some things. Dad is a guy, while he would listen, he would not understand and Yasmin...” I shrugged helplessly. My stepmother was a good woman and she would do her best to understand, too, to help me, she already did, but at the end of the day, she was my stepmother. I missed Mam. Especially in times like this. But Agus... I felt safe with her, in her arms, with her hand on my cheek. “I wished, that you could have come in better circumstances, too, but our jobs don't really allow us to just drop by and say hello. This is, what Manat weaved into her Tapestry – and I am glad, that She weaved you into it as well. And that She weaved us so close together.”
I loosened my grip slightly, moved out of the small of her neck and looked her into the eyes.
Beats passed – or were it millenia?
“I am now going to do something incredibly stupid.”, I announced, warned Agus – and kissed her on the lips.
Third time's the charm, eh?

I know, that you have a certain set of interests and we have, too, and that they might not align too well a times, but I would hate to loose more friends and more acquaintances due to this.
I look forward to the call.

Pet for your hound from me, please.
Aurelia

P.S.: Yep, that one was lame.

Dear Aurelia,

unfortunately, it seems we're way past the point of no return on this one. Even though the release of your private correspondence with the Brettain Emperor to the public is unfortunate (and we sincerily hope you will find and make the perpetrator pay dearly), in it, you can't deny that as a politician, you have been thinking the same thing as everyone else regarding the shift of powers in the UIS.

We have to agree with you, Marcella may be foolish on this one. But making big mistakes when you're a rookie and learnigng to salvage the problem the hard way is a sure way to mark it in you, and make sure to never repeat it again. We've been through that ourselves.

As for the relationship between the Sultanate and the Imperium, only the Stars (or Manat in your case) know what will happen. The only thing we want, in the end, is stability in the Malditas so that we can extract the ressources. Nothing more, nothing else.
As heads of state, we will do what must be done. But as your friends, know that no matter what happens between our two countries, as people, we won't use it to adapt our relationship with you. Come hell or highwater, if you still want to be our friend in the end, we will gladly continue to do so.

We petted Oronar on your behalf, and he greatly appreciated it. In return please do the same for Aldhyib.
Adrean and Anna.

In front of the Mervayan Embassy in the Astarian Capital, a few people have arrived, soon joined by others. In half an hour, around a hundred people are sitting or standing in front of the embassy, holding signs such as "Please mediate equally" or "AHSCA shall stand."
All in all, these people are simply demonstrating peacefully to ask the Mervayan government to mediate the situation equally between all parties, while also showing support to the United Island States of AHSCA.

Some policemen have arrived to watch over the demonstration, but they don't do anything to disperse it, only standing near their patrol cars.

"Thank you, please tell her I'll be a few."

"Certainly."

Manager said she'd understand if I had to take the day, we're well covered and not that terribly busy right now."

"I assure that I don't, Your Highness, it is something that is deeply personal and I would rather go on my own than divert resources to the safety of Her Highness." The Chancellor spoke, smiling at Marcella. "It is good to be back in the islands after so much time after all." She smiled, turning back and looking at her back before making her leave, a final glare to the Princess and Ambassador which they three nodded and bowed at Duchess Villa.

"I'll be taking my leave Your Highness, we'll be in touch." And as such, Chancellor Dileva was the first one to leave, Princess Circe was then decided on retiring to the resort to rest as well, before looking at Duchess Villa with a smile as well.

"I appreciate your words Your Highness and I would love that we can continue to discuss this and perhaps have an more personal and friendly talk soon." She then gave her a curtsy before turning to the door. "I'll be waiting for your knights before I leave, godspeed Your Highness." As such, Princess Circe was the next one to leave, the ambassador curtsying as well, taking her leave to be prepared for an call or message regarding the Sultanate as well.

Tess could only say that she was truly blessed to have someone like Satou as her wife, she was someone truly important in her life that she wouldn't know what it would be of it without her by her side.
She smiled as she heard her opinion on the matter, nodding when she said said they should stay for a while before leaving for Mervay. Making her smile as her eyes gazed upon the woman she loved.

"Well, rest assured that we will surely make worth it our stay here and there." She smiled playfully. "Then it's decided, we stay for a while in the islands then! Albeit don't think I will leave without you when I have to return to college dear." The brunette giggled as she leaned onto Satou.

"There's a lot of places I've got yet to show you." She cat like smiled before kissing her quickly to then hear about her free day. "It's up to you dear, if you want to stay I won't object since it is always lovely to be with you; but I don't want you to lose your day and well even if there isn't so much work, a hand or two always helps. So that is your choice sweetie."

'Iceberg' might be a good metaphor... and yes, to my knowledge, Aurelia wanted to wait until the Change in the Law of Marriage had passed and Marcella said so herself.”, I told him, “And I don't expect for my relationship with my Granddaughter to change any time soon.

Pandareos III of Mervay
Palace of the Azure Hall, Utica.

For the Prince, that silence only meant she was seriously considering his words and weighing them; the possibilty of having stepped out an plausible idea he wouldn't blame the thought to, that was until she finally spoke.
Her words surprising him in a way, his words certainly giving effect to this, this affair needed it both politically and personally to those hurt and involved. He heard of the Sultana's words about her husband attentively, knowing well how hard it was for her to fight for the love of her life; and also thinking of what would he had done shall he be alive; the only truth she agreed was that Aurelia needed closure. Then the Sultana smiled sheepishly as she explained that wasn't her place to be involved, not when their relationship isn't on it's best moment and how it will be of her parents, but Luciano knew that they will need to talk as well, personally.
He then begun to think on his answer to her last question, a pensive look on his face as he knew well what she meant. Then, he nodded.

"That is correct. The decision of Duchess Villa in apologizing is up to her and to you on regards to the conditions of the compensation should that not be possible." The Prince answered as he thought of the possibilities. "Our mission will be only to make sure both parties are satisfied with any agreement and to assure a proper negogiation; which is where I want to advice that this will take place in Mervayan soil, which is imperative that if that is perfect, we can work out an date for this mediation to take place under a reasonable timeframe." Then he let a beat pass.

"That is, if I get confirmation that AHSCA will partake in the negotiations as much as I must confirm the Sultanate's approval for to be present as well."

She couldn't help but find it cute how Aurelia reacted, her gaze warming further as she slightly blushed from the praise.
The Queen didn't objected when Aurelia pulled her closer and buried her face in her neck; she just kept on, caressing her friend and hugging her back. It felt like if she was giving a person she deeply cared about an massive lifeboat, an hand in the turbulent seas where she risked being drown and sink into the abyss.
And she couldn't blame her, she endured so much and always came stronger, yet, no one was prepared for a truthfully broken heart from the person which were to spend your life with.

For Agus, Aurelia was a person she deeply cared for and she knew well, she would do the same if she found herself on her shoes.
She heard all what she had to say silently and attentively, hearing every word she let out of her mouth. About her visits, and how she appeared to be the only other person on which she could count during these times to understand her and give her a hand, that person she could tell her deepest secrets and feel safe with her and comforted, and how... How she was lucky to have her here.
To say her cheeks nor her heartbeat didn't went up would be a lie; she was blushing mad as her heart was beating crazily, that was of course until she got herself together and warmly smiled at the beautiful and strong woman in front of her. Their eyes linking as there was a hint of desire, need and comfort; and before she could make sense of what was to happen. Aurelia kissed her.

It was... an myriad of overwhelming feelings as that happened; it felt wrong, it felt guility, it felt... Magical; caring, comforting, tending and... Warm... So conflicting, yet so decisive. Agus could only show shock as her heart beated faster and more feelings continued to appear, until she decided to embrace it passionately and warmly; placing her arms on Aurelia's shoulders and locking her up, she begun to kiss her back with a need of love and comfort, like a reassurance that it would all be alright, that she will get through this all the while those doubts she had were dismissed for the moment as she let herself lose in the warm kiss the two were sharing, not stopping with until she felt she was running out of air, like if it was a dream and she wished desperately to see if it really was or was this real.

As soon as she was done with it, her eyes shied away of Aurelia's ones for a moment, recomposing herself from such act which did certainly deserve to called stupid, but daring. Too many thoughts to get together and when she did, a sheepish, but warm smile formed as her eyes were filled with care and warm rather than uncertainty and coldness.

"I will admit that what you did was stupid." She said, laughing as she said that before being silent again. "But, it was also beautiful; I don't know why you did it, but I admit you surely had your reasons..." This time she got near her friend again as a hand went onto her cheek, making the Princess stare at the woman in front of her. "I just hope one day I will be told of your reasons." She then decided to also do something stupid as well, returning the kiss Aurelia gave her a moment ago. It will be interesting to see where they will go.

Embassy Security Personnel was watchful of the protesters, a few security personnel outside and without any weapons on sight; just keeping an eye in the manifestation as they knew they would be joined by more people as time might go by.
The Ambassador was watching it all from her window in her office, sighing as the people was outside and now the situation could take the heat up to them as well; if it wasn't already. Ever since the communique and then the private conversation with the Prime Minister there was an tense air regarding the Astarians and their focus on defending the UIS, even if some bridges might burn because of those actions, and yet; the investigation was still ongoing from what they said, there wouldn't be an conclusion for a few weeks at most if so.
The only thing she knew however, was to be ready for any eventuality.

Even Her Lover Agrees; Duchess is Nuts~
-A Report from The Hanasaku Press, A Private Independent Newspaper You Can Trust~-

This article first appeared in The Hanasaku Press, which is a privately owned news outlet based from Aurora Island in the UIS. This story has not been independently verified by UNICIM or any Government agency.

by: Fumio Taiya,
Editor in Chief, Hanasaku Press

Much fuss has been made about the recent fallout between the UIS and the Sultanate of Kyrenaia in recent weeks. From wondering if this was the right thing, to general concerns about the future to just all out off the walls drama suited for the juiciest of pulp novels now. A recently published article in the Utica Herald, 30th of June, 2021 reported on a personal correspondence between the Princess Aurelia bint-Damir and Emperor Thomas Cärrino of Brettenwald, wherein the Princess confides in the Emperor that even she thinks the Duchess Villa may truly be in over her head, well that's actually putting it nicely. The letter of which we obtained through a copy of the Harald reads as such, and for the sake of transparency, we have chosen to make no omissions or editing to the letter as written,

Dear Emperor Thomas,

I want to be honest with you: I would not have come out of the pickles I have been in they way I did without my Father, without my trusty Sand Wolf Aldhiyb and without my Handmaiden Sarina. I am positive, that they will help me through these tough times as well and that my stepmother Yasmin will be right with them – in fact, they already do, as do other friends of mine.

Now, as for your question – no.
Please do not get me wrong, Marcella is a woman with a beautiful mind and soul, strong and fierce, but despite all the love I still feel for her, she is not the right woman in these trying times for the UIS.
She lacks the experience to handle the mess, that was made by both her and my Grandmother, she lacks the resources to do so effectively, she lacks the corresponding government and I fear, that right now, she chased the foxes out of the chicken coop only to let the wolves in. I pray, that she realized that before it is too late and acts accordingly, swallowing her pride.

With a kind hug,
Aurelia bint-Damir,
Princess of the Ilkhanate of Utica and Beyeha of Malakiard.

In turn the Press in the Sultanate too have been having a true field day over this information as further letters back and forth between the Duchess and Princess were also shown, which Marcella rather plainly expresses her regret over the situation getting this far. With the Mervayan delegation acting as mediators in this whole mess, it remains to be seen what will happen in the months or even years to come. A recent poll by us show's the Duchess' popularity waning in points, considerably morose than in years prior even when faced with other moments of her ineptitude, such as the sluggish response to the slow moving hurricane on Animalpolis back in 2018. Honestly, that back then was the least of her worries compared to now, as now before the world stage, her name and reputation is being dragged out in public for the world to see, The Duchess is going to need more than just a little good will and a bow of her head in apology to weather this storm.

Meanwhile, even the Duchess's own family seems to have had enough of the ordeal of her causing as the Princess Gisella has seemingly left the country. Yes that's right, readers, with this ongoing situation the Princess saw fit to attend the wedding of a foreign monarch. And from what we've heard, [https://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?p=38799512#p38799512]her entrance was less than graceful.[/url]. The further blow back of the shuttering of relations with the Sultanate will be seen but for now, it's looking like The Duchess has wrecked upon the ships, having foolishly perused the siren song of the foreign Desert Princess, Aurelia.

Ducal Palace of Aurora

Scathing, harsh and downright painful to read. Shizuka Gozen was her Majesty's Trusted member of the State Press but now with all the independent outlets picking up on this, it was getting harder to resist to have to publish the same facts uncovered. As far as anyone in the office knew, this leak was genuine, these letters were for real and it was going to absolutely kill Marcella. Shizuka had knew Marcella would be upset by this but what would come next was the part scaring her the most. After all, she lost her temper enough to completly shutter relations with a foreign nation like Kyrenaia, honestly a real power broker of their region, influential. Everyone was already expecting The UIS would eventually come around to their senses, Shizuka thought the same but what was next was a scary unknown, how would she take to this? From a side office door, Noir stepped out. "Noir!" Shizuka quickly flagged her down.

"Shizuka." Noir nodded in a rather flat cold greeting.

"Ooh, I guess you saw..."

"I did. You going to run with it?"

"I have no further choice. I'm obligated. Of course I'll do a better job to be a journalistic report and less of a hit piece like the HP is but my back is against the wall, you must understand."

"The trust of our people comes if they believe the media that we inform them which is equally honest."

"Noir. I'm not quite in the same confidence as you would be with Her Highness....This piece is really going to hurt her badly."

"Indeed it will."

"But what's scaring me more, is what's going to happen after, is she going to lose all control at this point and do something rash? Honestly I'm not so certain she can be trusted any further in this matter."

"If you feel that she is, grab two Senators and ask for impeachment." Noir said rather nonchalant, not really expecting her, it was more like a bad joke. "You seem awfully calm."

"It was a hard lesson but I'm confident she's learned it. She's handled the Mervay delegation quite well. Good day, Shizuka."

"G-good day."

Noir went along to do her thing as Shizuka waited further for her time with the Duchess.

With that, Marcella was ready to wrap up her time with them. "Very well, if you so insist, I shall honor your request." The door opened for Asuna to step in "Asuna, grab one or two others if you will, escort Her Royal Highness to the Kitan. I'm entrusting her to your care."

"Yes, Milady. But nothing for The Chancellor?"

"The Chancellor has willingly waived any extra security for her, and I think there will be little issues for her. But do kindly show her out as well. I hope you will enjoy your time here, even under the circumstances that I regrettably caused that forced you here."

"As you wish. Miladies." Asuna waved for them to follow her along. The Lady Dielva would be escorted to the door while The Princess Cirque would be walked to the resort. When the doors of Marcella's office opened, Shizuka respectfully bowed as they would walk by her. Another guard taking rotation at the door summoned for Shizuka to enter. "Her Highness will see you now."

Residence

Satou smiled brightly at the prospects of going back with Tess for a while. "I'm going to stay with you then. I'll just run back and let Manager know that I'll take the rest of the day. Besides I think it'll rain tonight anyway and going home at night in a downpour is always a hassle." She kissed Tess once more "I'll be back in a few."

"Milady, I'm sorry about a short notice meeting with you." Shizuka apologized bowing her head.

"Something you need?"

"I need to discuss this with you." She handed over the newspaper. Marcella read it, any semblance of a smile left her face, her lips curled a bit more, she visibly swallowed quite hard.

"M-Milady..."

"So, this is just one paper isn't it?" she was still awaiting more intel from her agents in Utica after all maybe it was a mistake.

"Milady, all independently ran papers are running with this story. I'm sorry but in my attempts to vet it, I've come to a reasonable conclusion the report which was obtained form The Harald is authentic and legitimate. It's now impossible for me to ignore it without the cloud of impropriety."

"Is that so?" Marcella didn't seem angry, upset, or anything...It was rather uneasy tense silence.

"Milady."

"If you must, you must. Our media is here to inform our subjects, not suck up to me is it not?" Marcella sighed dumping the papers into her waste bin.

"Of course Milady. I promise I will write it with as much tact as I can possibly muster..."

"Good." Marcella snapped. "Then why don't you quit wasting time in here and get to work?"

"Yes, Milady." Shizuka bowed deeply to the point she was nearly ready to get onto the floor and beg for her life, as if Marcella was the type to so willfully order an execution of someone who may have rubbed her the wrong way. She wasn't perfect, this whole event can be a testament to how impulsive she can be for better and worse, but she wasn't cold blooded either. Shizuka shuffled her way out trying to continue to avoid Marcella's piercing glare of disapproval. "Yoshi!" Marcella called before the door could be shut.

"Ye-yes milady?"

"No more visitors today."

"As you wish. Oh but should that include the guest you had escorted to a private office?"

"I said no visitors did I not?"

"Ye-yes of course! Apologies, Milady!"

Left alone now for Marcella to sit in the quiet of the day. What to do next, well a few dozen options ranged in her mind from petty revenge to the sensible choice. "No matter what, we'll always be pushed around. Just no more room for little ones in this world of ours." She muttered aloud to herself, honestly at this point she forgotten the room was bugged. In the time alone and without visitors she did have time to thumb through everything else, a letter from Brettenwald's Emperor, ugh, last person she wanted to talk to right now, knowing they were in quite contact with the Sultanate. She thought again to the fact her letter was deemed as a breakup, It wasn't intended as a breakup per se, just a quick untidy note to just say she was sorry, she'd hopefully talk to her face to face or write something more formal when things cooled off but things only seemed to be getting worse since then.

Not reading anything further she set the Emperor's letter down and again her hot seething rage boiled over. "So, that's how she thinks of me, huh?" She crumpled the newspaper in a bit of anger and seething rage, resisting the urge to scream. Sitting down at her desk by the light of her lamp she wrote out her own little piece she could feed to the press to get revenge. About how Aurelia wept about her incoming stepmother, feeling abandoned, acting like a child instead of a grown woman, and plenty of other salacious things. Reading it back over, oh it was good all right, too good. Honestly, it was vicious and venomous too much for her. Removing the glass chimney from her lamp, she took her little scathing tell-all letter and burned it up. Fine, she feels that way, so be it, too late to do anything about it now. It was time for her to just face up and make the next move.

Addressed to the Honorable Razia-Sultana Umm Albilad, Lady of the Five Deserts, Ilkhana of Utica, Daughter of Kyrenaia, Mother of Her People, Highest Servant of the Lioness

Your Grace,

I know right now, I'm probably the last person you're wanting to hear from in any capacity. Truly, I let things get out of control by allowing myself to lose all sense of composure and manners instilled in me since I was a child and behave in such a manner unbecoming of my family, my name, my line and my people. Truly, I may have taken for granted how much the Sultanate did mean to the good people of the UIS and the region of the Southern Seas. We did fundamentally disagree on my relationship with your dear Granddaughter but in the end you probably did put up with it longer than you had any obligation to so for that I do thank you.

We may continue to disagree further into the future about the future of our two nations, our relations but what's done is done and it's time I admit I've forgotten a core value of our people and that is to live and let live. The Sultanate will continue to do its thing and we shall continue to do our thing, perhaps one day we'll rectify.

I know this is only a letter, for now it's what I'm sending to you to at least mend this rift. Of course, we are probably both awaiting the word from Mervay whom as cordially taken up the offer to mediate this feud between us and I will welcome their advice and consult as I'm certain you will. For now let my words on paper speak to you but if you still wish me to apologize before you and your court in the person, I shall do so.

In the Meantime, blessings of peace and harmony on your people

Marcella Villa

Dear Princess Aurelia,

I sincerely ask your forgiveness for bringing up the Sun's Review. It was a subject raised without care for your feelings on the matter and I doubt I could have chosen my words more poorly if I had let my son's dog write that section of the letter instead of doing it myself. I.F. took her sales receipt and flagged down one of the servers "Pardon me, may I borrow a pen?" Grabbing a pen she wrote down a series of numbers. The numbers were address markers, a sort of step-by-step way to find their choice agent. "Thank you very much." Handing the pen back, she waited for the server leave again and handed it over to her. "Follow the map and you'll find the treasure. If something comes up, she'll hear from us. Knock first and use the same calling card you gave us, then she'll know it's a friendly. No further questions from us. Your contact is appreciated. If you have anything more for us now's the time to tell us."

"Thanks." replies Alima as she takes the paper. "For me, I do not have anything more important right now to tell you. Relay the codes to the rest of your colleagues, and start observing. Follow people working inside the Palace and other places of powers when they go out, try to listen on what they say. In general, get a feeling of the general ambiance and atmosphere, and let your eyes and ears wander. Do not get caught. First reports are to come in in three days. Any questions?" asks the ACI handler to her subordinates.

Having listened to the meeting between Shizuka and Marcella, and having also read the article leaking the info about Aurelia's private letters to the public, Daniel Vincao decided to not disturb the Duchess again, and retrieve his listening device later.

But as he was about to pack his things and leave to get back to the Astarian Embassy, the listening device started picking some sounds again. A pen scratching against paper, some murmurs and mumbles from Marcella, etc.

As he listens intently, comprehension dawns on the Astarian ambassador/ACI case officer: Marcella is writing a letter of apology to the Sultana. Although at first it had been a revenge piece to the press to tarnish Princess Aurelia, she apparently aborted it and went for something else.

With a relieved sigh, he quickly opens his encryption software, and types a quick message to be sent back home.

The Duchess is writing a letter of apology to the Sultana. Exact content unknown. She was going for a revenge piece againt Princess Aurelia first, but aborted it.

With that done and sent, he stands up, puts his compuer back in his bagpack, and gets out of the conference room, before going to the exit of the Palace, nodding to the people he crosses paths with...

UNICIM

Princess' Letters May Bring About Resolution

Image
by Shizuka Gozen, Officer for Information and Culture

It's become well known by now that a letter (or series of letters) allegedly written by the Princess Aurelia bint-Damir, Princess of the Ilkhanate of Utica and Beyeha of Malakiard of Kyrenaia has been circulating in media outlets around the globe at this point. A what was intended as a private communication was somehow fed to local press outlets within Kyrenaia and made public detailed some honest and rather blunt thoughts by the Princess in regards to Her Highness, the Duchess Marcella Villa. In AHSCA, these stories first made it into local independently owned newspapers through the islands, on the good faith the contents to their best of knowledge was genuine and accurate so far as research could reasonably say so. After further vetting by UNICIM's own State Press office, we too conclude the same.

Obtaining the same copy as other outlets have, we too present the same finding:

With a kind hug,
Aurelia bint-Damir,
Princess of the Ilkhanate of Utica and Beyeha of Malakiard.
.

The blunt words do come as a surprise as it's been known how close the Kyrenaian Princess and Duchess have been over the past four years and no doubt plenty of private conversations exchanged between the two are starting to come out into the open at this point, though decidedly one sided as no remarks about the Princess beyond what is already known publicly have been made in the open yet. As also reported by select outlets, the Princess Gisella is indeed abroad attending a wedding event for another monarch marrying, leaving the Duchess alone in this instance with perhaps only her mother to fallback on for advice. But as such, with many officers of government who normally broker the UIS' foreign presence being tied up with this ongoing situation, a Princess doing her duty to represent the state should not be so easily dismissed.

No official word has come down from Her Highness or the other Officers in her close confidence what this recent revelation will mean, though some may be fearing the worse could come out of it others are hoping this will move towards a final solution to this problem. On good confidence, this reporter can already say that a meeting with esteemed representatives of Mervay went well with the Duchess agreeing to them acting as a mediator in this matter, and able to broker some kind of reasonable conclusion.

Your Graces,

Thank you for writing me and do accept the apology that I took as long as I did to write back. Indeed the letters have now gotten to me and to say I'm deeply hurt by them is putting it lightly. That said, I've fought all the battles I intend to fight and won't let this go further. I decided I made this mess so foolishly and now I intend to clean it up anyway I can and that means finally apologizing to the Sultana. I still would like to see Mervay mediate this between us, as much as I'm ready to call this finished I'm also not ready to get down on my hands and knees and beg for mercy. I will apologize, sincerely of course, and hope that will be enough for them to accept.

Your nation has done so much for us in this short time to navigate us through this including some other ventures you've been helping us on. You know which. For that I'm so thankful. I would be glad if you'd accompany, be by my side or whatever course you feel is best to help me when I go to face the Sultana about this. I eagerly await your reply until then, I wish the blessings of harmony, peace and prosperity for you and your people.

Your Grace,

Apologies for the lateness in my letter, I hope you'll understand I've been reading carefully all correspondence sent to me and taking time to properly think of a response, less I repeat the foolish mistake I made with the Sultanate. I do want to thank you for the candidness of your letter, because every once in a while my foolish stubborn mind needs a little bluntness to shake me up a bit. I've given it thought and have deiced it is time I admit wrong and hopefully move away from this ordeal soon enough. I've agreed to Mervay becoming a mediator in this with no further demands from me, I can only hope the Sultanate will be as graceful, though in the time I've known the Sultanate, I'm sure she will be. What else can I say now other than I'm standing a defeated woman.

I wish the blessings of harmony, peace and prosperity for you and your people.

Dear Adrean, dear Anna,
there is an old Auwaltian saying: “The best can't live in peace if the evil neighbour doesn't like it.”
I hope, that the presence of the Kyrenaian Forces never made us appear like evil neighbours to you and your people, especially those on the Malditas. I hope, that your new/old neighbours aren't evil either.
And yes, I did think some things when the shift occurred – and, if we find the time during the Return Visit, I will explain my thoughts to you in person. As I have recently learned, private communication isn't as private as I thought it would be. While we are at it, the investigation is proceeding apace – sadly, its resolution will not involve an axe coming down, but one can not have everything in life, now can one?

Signed,
Aurelia

P.S.: I would like to stay friends with you, too. Or to, as they say, keep the communication channel open.

Dear Princess Aurelia,

I sincerely ask your forgiveness for bringing up the Sun's Review. Dear Emperor Thomas,

you mentioning the Sun's Review is no problem. I did not get over it, over the release and the treason involved with it, and haven't by now, but I learned very soon, that some things need to be talked about. This apparently is one of these things.
One of the most confounding things for foreigners about Kyrenaia is, that we are an Absolute Monarchy, with freedom of the press and freedom of expression. It has something to do with Kyrenaian Philosophy, about only the free discourse leading to wisdom and thus advancement, both as individuals and as a nation, but at the end of the day, the law was intended to allow for free discussions of issues of great importance. The Sun's Review uses it to write gossip. This time, they struck gold and, as problematic as it may be for the investigation of the security leak, no one can force them to reveal their sources. While private correspondence, these letters are not state secrets.

I trust, that, either with the mediation or without, both my Grandmother and Marcella see reason.

As for the stationary, it is no problem. I always have a package or two of ink cartridges for my pen (which I am using right now) in my desk, but the paper for personal letters is from the printer across the room. It might not be as fancy as the formal, personal letterhead I sometimes use for private-formal letters, but it does its job, doesn't it?

With a kind hug,
Aurelia bint-Damir,
Princess of the Ilkhanate of Utica and Beyeha of Malakiard.

P.S.: Depends on how much of a headstart you have. ; )

Diplomatic Correspondence.
NOT to be released.

Your Royal Highness,
You are gravely mistaken as You are far from the last person We want to hear from right now. In fact, We are grateful to hear from You directly instead of by the ways of press releases and relayed messages.

To Our understanding, the Kingdom of Mervay is still willing to, indeed, mediate, a service rendered upon the Sultanate We can not forget nor recompense. Furthermore, said mediation is to take place in Mervay, on neutral grounds, and ensure, that both sides leave with a diplomatic solution in hand, which they can live with.
The Sultanate is willing to attend such a mediation – We will, however, send a delegation, led by Our sons, Prince Damir ibn-Razia and Crown Prince Ilia ibn-Razia. They will speak Our Will.

Allow Us to close with a few personal words, Young Khana:
I 'put up with' (to borrow your phrasing) the relationship between you two not because of any obligation, but because it made Aurelia happy. What Grandmother would I be, if I wanted to see my Granddaughter unhappy?
At the same time, it was reasons of state as to why I ended it. I told you of them and I will not repeat them. What Sultana would I be, if I allowed the Sultanate to be divided?
In time, I hope, that both of you will understand and that, maybe, we will eat at the same table again.

May the winds carry a cool, gentle breeze and not too much water (to adapt the usual blessing),
Razia,
Sultana, Mother of the Nation, Lady of the Five Deserts, Ilkhana of Utica, Daughter of Kyrenaia, Mother of Her People, Highest Servant of the Lioness.

I nodded.
“Well, I can give you a verbal agreement and assurance, that we will send a delegation – please understand, that I will not attend the mediation personally. After all, diplomacy is best left to the diplomats.”, I said and leaned back, “I will most likely send Damir and Ilia.”
Pandereos should be well aware of who I meant: My sons, Prince Damir and Crown Prince Ilia, the former an experienced diplomat, the latter an experienced public face for the more uncomfortable side of Kyrenaia's power.
Besides, the Navy had something to say at this table as well, though only as far as the demolition of Mokastana Northeast went.
“A written confirmation will have to wait for a bit, I'm afraid.”, I said and looked at the clock, “The majority of my diplomatic staff is currently having midday break, as far as I know them, so in the afternoon, we will get that underway. I might be able to give you a draft of the press release at tonight's dinner... speaking of, you still plan to stay, right?”

Altinyarat-Palace, Malakiard, Khanate of Khond.
Princess Aurelia bint-Damir.

Gods...
I had half expected her to push me away and to never speak with me again. I had expected my other half to bail (again), too.
But, as Agus returned the kiss – I was rooted.
Not only because of Agus' arms, mind you, but because... she returned it.
And quite long, in fact, until we ran out of air and had to break apart because of that – gasping for air, Agus looked away for a moment, searching for composure, like I was. When they returned, they were warm.
She told me, that my act was stupid, but also beautiful – and that she did not understand, why I did it.
Neither did I, to be honest.
And as I wanted to tell her that, our lips found each other again and again we kept them together until the air ran out, breaking apart for that sweet, sweet oxygen.
Her hand still held my cheek and I had wrapped my arms around her during the second kiss, pulling her ever-closer. I could feel her heartbeat in her chest, or was it mine, that hammered away like a mad pianist on his instrument?
Regardless, I smiled.
“I...”, I began, then stopped, began again: “You were quite daring as well...”, I told her, “...and it was beautiful... you're good...” There was an impish smile at the last comment, before I pulled her close and whispered into her ear: “But before we loose ourselves, how about we go one room down? I did promise you something there, didn't I?”
The last was accompanied by me pecking Agus onto the cheek before looking into her eyes again.

What was the mood in Kyrenaia's seat of government?
It was hot, so very, bloody hot - the daily mean temperature for July was 32.5° Celsius in Utica and no percipitation in sight. Normally, the Kyrenaians would stay indoors, with indoor coolers and other means to cool off, but last year and the outbreak of the COVID-Pandemic in Kyrenaia, which had spike in summer, had taught one valuable lesson to the Kyrenaians: Indoors was not good in times of pandemics.
So, many Kyrenaians tried to do their work outdoors, whenever possible, tourists were out anyway. Officials of the Ministries, especially important ones like Defense, Foreign Affairs and of course the Office of the Grand Vizier, were forced to either work in their office buildings or from home offices.
As these ministries did a lot of work on paper, that had to be transported somehow. The intrepid spies would quickly notice, that figures on very new, very expensive motorcycles, in black leather overalls, rushed to many of the ministries and away again. Motorcycle couriers.
Their reconnaissance would also notice, that there were not simply agreeing and disagreeing opinions on what was happening, but a whole matrix of opinions: Some people blamed the entire issue on the question of homosexual marriage and wanted the question to be resolved in one way or the other and for either the Duchess to apologize, the Sultana to just drop it or for Aurelia to go to hell. Others were feverishly on the side of the Sultanate, though the hawks among them were few and far inbetween. Others yet again were mostly drawn into it by the drama, as if it was fresh out of television, of course with different allegiances. And then there were many more opinions.
What might surprise the UIS' spies was, that there were quite a few fans of Marcella, not many, but quite a few.
In general, however, the mood was positive towards a mediation. The issue needed to be resolved and the less bloodshed there was, the better, as far as the public opinion was concerned.
The government's opinion... that was a bit harder to come by...

"You're welcome. Dismissed." replies Alima before standing up from her seat, putting back her sunglasses on her nose, and walking away.

After a few minutes of walking, she takes the paper I.F. handed her from her pocket, and reads it.

Okay, here we go. thinks the Astarian agent, before starting to follow the path to the treasure, the gardener Shadow Knight.

40 minutes later...
After a stop by a market stall where she bought two bottles of water, Alima now finds herself in front of the door where her agent is residing.
Without a word, she takes a blank card from her pocket, uncaps a small spray, and vaporises a lotus perfume on it. She then slides the card under the door, then knocks three times, before stepping a few meters away...

please do not apologize, we understand perfectly that with what you are going through, between the leaks and all, you have a lot on your shoulders at the moment, and it is surely not easy to handle it. So if you take a little time to answer, that's perfectly reasonable.

We got a report by our ambassador that you were indeed about to apologize to the Sultana. That's a good thing. We have yet to see where this will lead us, but it is a step in the right direction.

Anyway, know that helping your nation on the matters we know have been really good for us, and we will gladly continue to do so.
As for our presence at your side when you go to the negotiations in Mervay, just tell us the time and place and we will be there. Besides, we have things we need to settle with the Kingdom as well, so it will be useful too for us.

We thank you for your blessings, and in turn, we also wish the blessing of the Stars on your people and country.

PS: We do not mean to insist unecesarily, but please remember our offer to buy the land of the former Kyrenaian base still stands.

Dear Aurelia,

this saying is pretty accurate, but we feel that since our acquisition of the Malditas, it's been us who's been considered the evil neighbour (#Brettenwald), and not the other way around.
The presence of Kyrenaian forces was already written and acknowledged way before we arrived in the vicinity. And honestly, just a few Littoral Combat Ships and SAR choppers are not what we would call "evil."
So no, the Sultanate has never been considered as a threat by us. As for our new or old neighbours, even if they are evil, the amount of fire we have ready for them now should be more than enough to make them think twice.

We'll be ready to hear your opinion on the matter during the return visit. Indeed, such a shame people of our rank can't hold a 100% private conversation unless they take extreme measures.
In any case, good luck with the investigation. But if we may give you an advice, don't reach for the axe on this one. If you start putting down everyone who does you wrong, you'll end up like I nearly did (Adrean speaking). Just kick them hard, really hard.

Signed,
Adrean and Anna.

PS: Very well then. Thank you. : )

PPS: To whoever else might be reading this, you can go suck a dick. And we mean it.

Marcella Villa

Dear Duchess,

There is no need to apologize. To put it lightly, you have a great many cats to herd at this moment in time. I thought I might have been too candid, we Brettain have a not undeserved reputation for bluntness. Your mistake was foolish, as you say, but it was also an understandable mistake from someone with a passionate heart who decided that they didn't have to sit there and take it any more. I am happy to hear of your decision and confident that negotiations will go well, the old saying about a good compromise leaving everyone unhappy notwithstanding. Razia will want her due, but hopefully no more. Finally, don't think of yourself as defeated just yet. You've lost this battle, but you may yet win the war (and Aurelia's heart once again.)

Cordially yours,
Thomas Cärrino, Emperor

P.S.: Depends on how much of a headstart you have. ; )

Dear Princess Aurelia,

It seems I was looking in the wrong desk drawer. My daughter and I play mind games with each other from time to time by moving personal things around, and waiting weeks at a time to lull me into a false sense of security before making a move is one of Helena's preferred tactics. (She says it's to keep my mind in shape, which I find impudent given that I'm only 61.) Pardon the digression.

I find my country similar to yours in that respect: though the Empire is a constitutional state in the sense that it has an old piece of paper in a glass display case that says it is one, it generally functions as an absolute monarchy with executive power delegated to Parliament at the monarch's discretion. Hardly a perfect arrangement and one with far too much margin for error given the wrong backside sitting on the throne, but being able to fob off unpopular policy matters like budgets and whatnot on the Prime Minister and make it his or her problem has its uses occasionally. I think our press here is still somewhat traumatized by my grandfather's reinstatement and my father's upkeep of lese-majesté laws from 1924 to 1989, an unfortunate period during which egos were placed on a higher pedestal than the rights of the individual. One cannot speak truth to power if power has slapped gaffer tape over one's mouth, after all, and for a country so wrapped up in its past they nevertheless forgot that from ancient times all men were guaranteed the right to speak during tribal assemblies. I will admit that I did not do away with such restrictions entirely, merely ordered the Crown judiciary to drop all relevant cases and informed them that they were no longer permitted to pursue their prosecution, but it was the first official act I had drawn up and I didn't want to rock the boat with my father barely dead two weeks. We have our fair share of gossip rags too, though I only ever see their print editions wrapped around an order of fish and chips. At least they're good for something.

Cordially yours,
Thomas Cärrino, Emperor

P.S. Quite true. How many miles do I get?

Your Highness,

There is no need to apologize for rambling, I find myself dwelling on might-have-beens from time to time myself. Your description of Marla's likely reaction reminds me of my Arabella: golden hair and a red temper. She was French, so I knew what I was getting into. I occasionally regret not marrying again after her passing, as children need a mother, but somehow it just... seemed like an insult to her memory. I was 38, clinically depressed, and spent most every waking hour by Helena's cot in the natal intensive care ward for nigh on six months, so I didn't think any woman would want me anyway. I found I was wrong two years later, but that is a story with a highly unhappy ending and I doubt I could do it justice on paper.

It will no doubt interest you to know that Marcella has just informed me of her intention to personally apologize to your esteemed mother and her agreement to Mervayan mediation. It seems the light at the end of the tunnel is not an oncoming train after all.

Cordially yours,
Thomas Cärrino, Emperor

Please do pardon the lateness of my response to you. As you can imagine, things are quite busy around here but that said I'm glad you decided to reach out to me on behalf of The Honorable Kudo. I would be glad to have an audience with you at your convenience. You may be aware, I'm also intending to meet with the Chancellor of Mervay soon enough so I'm sure I can fit you in afterward. My security staff shall escort you here.

I look forward to our meeting,

CONFIDENTIAL release at Discretion of Her Highness

Greetings Honorable Leader,

Thank you for writing to me personally. Having just heard from your ambassador and now yourself, makes me happy. The fallout between our two nations is a sad one, I suppose a great deal of it is, is my own fault for letting my own temper get the best of me but thinking and feeling on it some more, I've been torn whether it's time to simply apologize or accept this to be the case. The Sultana has a point, I may be letting politics mix to much with pleasure but that said, I have to say I'm waiting for more information before I make my decision one way or another to mend ties (though I truly doubt mending is possible with what I've done) or moving forward without Kyrenaia. The support of Cartoonia is welcome at this point, the UIS will show the pride of our two decades of unity and independence with a strong foreign policy.

I hope to meet soon with your Ambassador stationed here and see what he has to say on your behalf. I shall hope to also meet with you soon as well, perhaps when things are less hectic, I shall make my first formal visit to Cartoonia.

Her Royal Highness, Marcella

P.S. Also want to thank you for your cordial hosting of two of our senators, they enjoyed their time and discussion upon their visit.

FOR PRIVATE EYES ONLY

Hello Your Royal Highness,

I am sure whatever decision you choose, it will all turn out for the best. I am not one to take things lightly, but I have a feeling that once this situation has subsided. Things will return to somewhat normal circumstances. I have seen and dealt with the international press. They crave juicy drama, but that would subside very soon as they clamor over the next craziest thing to press on about. I am sure the rest of the world will be able to forgive and forget, we all make mistakes sometimes.

On a different and happier note, I think it would be wonderful of you to visit us here in Cartoonia. It has been a while since we had a public state visit from any foreign leader. Perhaps during August as this whole situation dies down, perhaps My family and I can treat you to a relaxing week in Cartoonia.

Hope to see you soon. Sincerely,
Supreme Leader Jimmy Kudo

P.S. It was the chancellor’s pleasure to have the chance to speak with Ms. Pacifica and Ms. Miela. I believe that this served to strengthen our ties even closer than before.

PC Delta Frat House, Headquarters of the International Liberal Liberation Front. South Park, Mainland Province, Cartoonia.

PC Delta is a fraternity for young college students who wants to “share” American liberalism in a nation like Cartoonia where it is not absolutely necessary. Some of these college students, who have been attached to their smartphones for the past years or so have developed a taste for American Political Correctness, while others have developed a taste for American National Globalism. The Cartoon college campuses have become a battleground for American politics, with normal Cartoon students caught in the middle of the crossfire.

The PC Delta Fraternity was created by these students to promote American liberalism and as a police force against others. The Cartoon government tried to control their more aggressive tactics, but the students often end up shouting freedom restricting fascists. After college came a new extreme liberal activist group to spread this idea throughout the world through force. This became the International Liberal Liberation Front. A secret society for like-minded PC attentive people who make it their mission to force the more extreme ideas of American liberalism.

The Cartoon House Representative Peter Charles Patterson was in charge of this organization and has spread its message via social media, recking havoc all around the world. Tonight, they have their monthly meetings discussing “important” issues. But first, they do their daily incantation

“Social Justice, 1-2-3! (Woo Woo)
I wanna be PC! (Woo Woo)
It's just the way to be for me... And you! (Woo Woo)

Your hateful slurs are through! (Woo Woo)
(I call woo woo on you!)
(Woo Woo)

We'll fight until you're PC black and blue! (Woo Woo)
We are language police! Fighting bigotry! Hurtful words can suck our turds! 'Cause it's PC for me...

And you! (Woo Woo)”.

Their little chant done, Patterson calls the organization to order, being the most senior member there and the leader of the gang.

“Alright P.C. brothers, I call the meeting of the International Liberal Liberation Front to order. As we all know, our mission is to spread and plant the ideas and policies of the new American government. The policies of America being of our great deities!” He looks upon six portraits of American politicians.
“All praise our saviors and our future overlords. U.S. Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Jamaal Bowman of New York, and Cori Bush of Missouri”. The P.C. brothers all bow down and grovel, Patterson then reveals a statue of another prominent politician.

“And let us not forget our greatest deity, the almighty senator from New Hampshire, our only god, Bernie Sanders! The greatest of all socialists!”. The PC brothers continued to hail their leaders, praising them as their saviors.

“We as the International Liberal Liberation Front, it is our duty to spread America’s Democratic ways and shut down any tyrannical, right-winged policies around the world. As a politician and victim of the conservative conspiracy…”, he waits to finish as he hears hissing and booing which was towards the politicians (who PC Patterson says are conservatives) “controlling” the government.

“I sent a very strongly worded letter to this Sultana of Kyrenaia ever since I learned that they did not allow LGBTQ rights in their country”. More shouts of anger from the PC brothers came out for this revelation.

“I have received a response, and I must say that this enraged me more than any injustice that has ever happened!” He shows off and reads the letter he received from Kyrenaia.

Dear Mister Prince,
in the name of the Sultana, I wish to thank you for your fan letter to Her. Unfortunately, the Sultana is a very busy woman and thus can not respond to every letter personally, hence why I was tasked with that.
In regards to the rights and duties of the LGBTQ+-Community in Kyrenaia, I wish to add, that the discussions are still ongoing, but, due to recent events on the international stage, gone from the forefront of media attention.

With kind regards,
Karim Usra,
Household Agency of the Palace of the Azure Hall.

The P.C. brothers were furious. Their cries for world wide liberalization are being unheard by this… lousy sultana who wouldn’t care to listen to them. Their anger boils over to words.

“P.C. Brothers. Now is the not the time for words no matter who truthful they may be!” Patterson shouts, and as he said it the others calm down a bit.

“Ours is a righteous cause and they have denied the most basic rights to the LGBTQ community for too long. I suppose we will have to make them understand what is at stake”. Shouts of “jusitce” is heard from the brothers.

“I will be sending another letter of warning to this sultana about this, and while I cannot do anything because “Chancellor” Uno wants me to go with a councilman to a patriarchal sport exhibition…”, he waits for more booes and hisses to die down from that comment. “I will be assinging one of you to carry the task. Nothing that will kill her though, but somethign that will get the message across”.

“I volunteer!”. One of the PC brothers shouts. A college student from the University of Elmore (a private institution).

“PC brother No. 19283, very well. You will travel to the sultanate and get our message across. Thus, I shall adjourn the meeting tonight”. The organization splits up and returns to their homes in whatever clean vehicles they have. In secret, PC Patterson gives this PC brother some Aersol paintcans, something was up with them, nothing good at all.

To the Sultana of the Sultanate of Kyrenaia,

You think you can ignore us? Foolish conservative! 2021 is rolling in faster than you can shake a vegan steak at. We will get our message across. We will see liberalization!

You have been warned! AGAIN!

TO: Supreme Leader of Cartoonia, Jimmy Kudo
FROM: DUCHESS MARCELLA VILLA

CONFIDENTIAL

Honorable Kudo,

Thank you for your message to me. I feel I should let you know that i'm ready to begin mediation of this, which the Mervay government has agreed to organize on our behalf and behalf of the Sultanate and I've already written the Sultana personally to begin a process of hopefully mending things. I'm certain you've also seen some of the open press outlets that gave the Princess Aurelia's thoughts about me as Duchess of this nation so you can imagine how I'm taking that right now.

Anyway, I personally would love to make a visit to Cartoonia, be if official business or personal or both. August is certainly possible, hopefully in the middle, the first week might be a bit busy with much to do before the close of legislative session at the end of the month (you'd be surprised, Senators really race to get things on my desk at the start of the month) and last week would be tricky so that I might be back in time for our nation's annual religious festival but right in the middle should work. If August cannot work, there's always late September or October. We'll be in touch soon enough to finalize details.

Meantime, thank you for writing to me.

Residence
"Take care then dear!" She smiled warmly before seeing her wife heading back to the resort. As soon as she was alone, Tess sighed. She had all the time of the world to think of what to do with this warm and quiet period she will be able to enjoy now that she's calm... And dealing with her mother.

It made her groan lightly as she knew that she won't take no as an answer before she sees she's deep serious on this and if she had to be thankful of something, was that her father wasn't present; because may god help her. The two will certainly want her to return and make this even more tense that it already was, this was a nice way to rest of that... Huh... Ironic isn't it?
But she knew well why would such talk would be tense, her parents loved her, they were close to the other and cared a lot for her well-being; she wouldn't be the woman she's today if not for their care and lessons. It was just meant for it to be tense sadly.

As Satou set foot out of her house, she would hear a voice calling for her, a very familiar voice...

"Ms Fujimiya!" It was the voice of Jessica Dileva, Her Majesty's Chancellor and, Satou's mother in law; behind her two guards followed her closely, evidently from the Royal Guard. She sighed in relief as she saw her... "Thank godness I see you. Is Tess inside the house? There's something we need to discuss."

Pandareos III of Mervay
Palace of the Azure Hall, Utica.

Prince Damir ibn-Razia, a seasoned diplomat, De Facto head of the Ilkhanate of Utica and father of Princess Aurelia; The Prince saw coming the possible intervention of him as the Sultanate's head in such mediation considering his history, what he didn't expect was the presence of the head of the Kyrenaian Royal Navy. There was a slight worry it might make the situation tense enough, but there was also a possibility his presence might be related to the whole explosion in their former base that now lies in ruins, it's a miracle everyone came out alive.
But Pandareos understood what she meant, better leave this to the diplomats and he knew well back at home the Prime Minister would like to partake as the head mediator considering that of all high ranking officers, he's the only one with the experience besides the Vice-Chancellor; as such, he nodded with that statement.
Then, he nodded with the rest; he will certainly have to contact the people in the UIS then. Well, hopefully they are in the Duchess office and would make it all simple.

"I do still plan on staying." He told her, three days to keep an eye on the ambient around here; if this could be relied to Asteria of the general feeling of the situation, then it will make thing easier beyond the scope seen on the media, but also the general air. "I would to love share dinner with you, Lady Aynur and with Princess Dschamilla." His own mention of the latter was followed by an warm smile, he was looking foward to sharing dinner with both of them, but there was something that intrigued him of the Flower of Fenchu.

"I hope it won't be a problem my stay I believe?"

Agustinas Florenze Da Mervay
Altinyarat-Palace, Malakiard, Khanate of Khond

The fact that it was all happening in what, a minute or two? Made it all passionate, she could feel the fears she had when making such bold move; how this was a situation that could grow or break their relationship, yet those concerns were being silenced as the former route was chosen.
They just let themselves out of their fears as it all happened, not once, but twice. She didn't know why she was doing it as well, yet she couldn't hold herself that as it would had made everything worse; and by the time they broke from that kiss, her eyes were glued on Aurelia's ones as she caressed her cheek all the while they kept their hug, Aurelia must had surely noticed how her heart was beating like a mad pianist or a violinist, hers not so far off on that matter. And as soon as she told her of the massage and how it was all beautiful, her blush finally exploded and it almost seemed like her whole face turned into an red tomato, perhaps steam blowed out of her ears? All made worse by the kiss in the cheek.

It takes her a few seconds for her to stutter a "R-right..."

Then she finally recovers quickly and with the same mischief her friend had, the young woman strikes back by placing her fingers on her chin, making the olive-skinned girl look at her eyes.

"Well then, lead the way; My. Dear..." She giggles teasingly before pecking her cheek as well, waiting for Aurelia's reaction.

It was no sooner Satou was ready to set out when a familiar voice called her, oh it was her mother-in-law! Still call her by her last name, no less. Well Satou wasn't one to complain or speak out but hopefully the two would become more comfortable with each other but that wasn't important right now. "Mrs. Dileva!" Satou ran right up to her. "It's good to see you too! Yes, Tess is home. I'm sure she's eager to see you as well. I was on my way back to work for a few moments but it can wait. Please, please come in." Leading Jessica inside "Tess. Ehehe" She giggled rather awkwardly "It seems we have a guest here." Satou sat back down "Don't worry work can wait a while, I want to be hear with you and her." She was her family now, certainly someone Satou could look up to.

A small eye slot on the door slid open for a moment then slammed shut again. The sound of a few locks being released and the door opening was a hand waved for her to enter. It was another woman who answered. "We've been expecting you. Come in. We had word sent down from Pluva we should expect another agent to give us a new directive. You're here to see " Pluva being a code name for I.F. She parted a curtain that lead into another room, rich in smoldering burning incense a big hazy with some of the smoke, there she was Mola was her name. Her role was giving Esperanto code names to everyone and writing directives in the native tongue of AHSCA's Corona Island. With enough cryptic coding of course, not like just saying "Hey spies go here!" in Esperanto. She was known for her flowery way of writing and of course she too had an affinity for flowers which is what Alima would need for certain.

"Welcome" Mola greeted her "Sit, the both of you please. All right so what brings you here? I knew you were coming but that's all I know."

Answering on behalf of her Highness, she will be certainly welcoming to see you in person at her office tomorrow morning as her first appointment of the day.

En route to Aurora Ducal Palace

It seemed like a good idea to meet with Her Royal Highness today. It has been a couple of days since Jellal Fernandes sent a message to Her Royal Highness to speak with her on behalf of the Supreme Leader. There were a lot of leaders coming in and out of the palace throughout the week ever since this whole debacle began.

He had a few words of advice and proposals to share with her royal highness, on behalf of the Supreme Leader. The situation so far is indeed a mess. Jellal has a few words of his own to ease the mind of Her Royal Highness. After all, he is a very skilled diplomat.

He arrives on Aurora Island where the Duchess’ palace is. A place that is all very familiar to him from his many travels to the islands on vacation, especially last time with his lover. The fresh island air has always put his mind at ease.

Once the boat he had taken docked, he begins looks around for Duchess Marcella’s security staff that are to escort him to the palace. With him is his ID as a way to identify himself as an ambassador, and he also wears a flag pin on the collar of his polo shirt to signify his status as a Cartoonian ambassador. He spots them and immediately walks up to them.

“Excuse me”, he starts, pulling up his ID. “Mr. Jellal Fernandes, Cartoonian ambassador. I have an appointment with Her Royal Highness”.

Dear Emperor Thomas,

I like to keep my Father on his toes as well - which was especially true during my time as a student and his offer to help me if I had trouble in school... I think, he hoped, that I would get integral calculus on my own, though. ; )

Your people apparently discovered one use for gossip rags, which we have missed. Then again, I could live without staring at my own face when I order fish and chips (which I never had, by the way, but they do sound delicious).
As mentioned, the Freedom of Opinion was originally installed, though not always observed, to facilitate a free exchange of opinions for the betterment of all. You might have heard of how the politcal career of Grand Vizier Mahmut al-Zahir, our current Grand Vizier's predecessor, started with him arguing to Kian-Sultan about the quantity of Math and Language lessons. The thought was, that every man (and in the beginning, it was a male perogative) could speak up freely, without the fear of punishment, if his arguments were wise and well-substantiated. We have raised debating into an art form.

With a kind hug,
Aurelia bint-Damir,
Princess of the Ilkhanate of Utica and Beyeha of Malakiard.

P.S.: Hm... a kilometer?

Your Highness,

I understand, what you mean. Marla was a force of nature, something she passed on to her daughter, and it was that fire, so unlike any woman's I knew at the time, which drew me to her like a moth to the light. While Yasmin is a lot more composed and a lot calmer, she is by no means a slouch either.
As for unhappy endings, if You are willing to share the story over a bottle of Aragh, I will be listening.

I have been informed about that, yes. I thank you for the happy news.
I might also share a small secret with you, as I will be leading the delegation at the mediation. Aurelia and my brother Ilia will come along as well, we are waiting for the date and time from the Mervayans, essentially. Our press release should come out in a day or two.
I am glad, that Marcella sees reason - and that Mother agreed to it.

From: Household Agency of the Palace of the Azure Hall.

Dear Mister Prince,
in the name of the Sultana, I wish to thank you for your fan letter to Her. Unfortunately, the Sultana is a very busy woman and thus can not respond to every letter personally, hence why I was tasked with that.
You might not be aware of it, Mister Prince, but we do have calendars and we know, which year it is. While we use the internationally common denotation of BCE and CE, we also have a more traditional way of telling the year, currently the 49th Year of the Rule of Razia-Sultana, the Mother of the Nation.
As for getting your message across, please take care to not get drowned out by the Movement for a Change in the Law of Marriage aimed at allowing for Homosexual Marriage (or Homosexual Marriage Movement). It is the understanding of the Household Agency of the Palace of the Azure Hall, that Her Royal Highness, Princess Aurelia is very high in their structures.

With kind regards,

Your Excellency,
dear Sirs and/or Ma'ams,
I know, that this letter arrives at your doorsteps at an interesting moment in the relationship between our two great nations and I would fully understand, if you were to move this letter over to the trashbin with posthaste.

However, I ask of you to reconsider and to please humour my humble, small request. Over the last few weeks, a total of two letter from a Mister P.C. Prince, calling himself the Leader for the International Liberal Liberation Front, arrived addressed directly to the Sultana. The Household Agency took care of the replies, but the Chandshar managed to track the group back to Cartoonia, hence why I am writing to you. As they used relatively threatening language in their letters, some people grew concerned, since it is especially the fringe groups you need to be careful about. This is a lesson we learned the hard way with the 2019 Al'Arz Terrorist Attack and the involvement of the Front for a Traditional Kyrenaia (if I remember correctly, You even sent a letter of condolence, Your Excellency).
Thus, I would like to enquire something small: Is the International Liberal Liberation Front harmless?

I remain respectfully yours,

Pandareos III of Mervay

Palace of the Azure Hall, Utica.
Razia-Sultana Umm-Albilad.

I saw, that a brief moment of worry came in as he realized, who I meant by Ilia - his presence involved Mokastana Northeast, officially. Unofficially, he would be a friendly reminder to the world, that Kyrenaia could have, and, in times long past, would have, reacted differently.
Besides, it was high time, that the Lord-Commander of the Navy got a bit of diplomatic experience under his belt.
He did smile warmly at his own mentioning of Fenchu's Flower... was somebody crushing already?
"It is absolutely no problem. In fact, I went ahead and organized a room for you to stay.", I said and smiled myself. "Please apologize the presumptions of an old woman. Fara?"
My own Handmaiden bowed her head, then poked said head out, calling in another Handmaiden. She was a pretty young woman, light skinned and with brown hair and red eyes. She gracefully sank to her knees at the head-end of the table, on Pandereos' side, which would give him a good chance to look at her closely.
"This young woman is Marla Sahrar of the Tribe of Wicklow, a Handmaiden in Service to this House.", I introduced, "She will take care of any of your needs, which might arise." I let a beat pass. "I am afraid, however, that I will have to leave you now. While the current diplomatic issues are at the forefront of everything right now, normal duties continue."
I rose, then bowed my own head lightly, more a nod then a bow.
"It was a pleasure, Prince Pandereos, and I look forward to dinner tonight.", I said, sincere. "Keep it up and your future will be bright."

Altinyarat-Palace, Malakiard, Khanate of Khond.
Princess Aurelia bint-Damir.

Oh, Agus being embarrassed and red as a tomato looked so adorably cute, I could hardly contain a giggle - her reaction was quite nice, too, er tease making me blush lightly as well.
Her fingers on my chin felt... electrifying...
I rose with her and led her down, into the Hot Room, which deserved its name. It was full of steam, ready to be soaked up for health benefits - the skin profited from it, the nervous system profited from it, it was generally healthy... and it was only a small curtain and a small stairwell away, leading down into the rock. The mats on the steps ensured, that even the wettest and slippiest of feet would have safe steps.
Downstairs, a number of benches lined the room, with four tables of massive stone were set into the middle, massage tables. Usually, a tellak was the one giving massages, and I had one on staff (he was actually my gardener), but today...
I turned to Agus, my eyes serious.
"Agus...", I said and then continued: "...if you really want me to give you a massage, I will do so - the whole nine yards. But please be aware, that I will have to touch you in... places for that." I hoped, that she got my message and... something in me hoped, that she would not chicken out. "Are you okay with that?"

"Mr. Ambassador," Asuna greeted him. "This way please." She guided him through another corridor to the waiting room outside her office. "Sit here a moment if you'd please." She instructed him to wait on a chair, she took her post at the door when Yoshi in turn greeted "Good day, Mr. Ambassador, I'm Yoshi, Her Lady's Chamberlain. Please let me see if she's ready to receive you."

As just the day prior the afternoon turned rather glum with Marcella shooing off any visitors, perhaps today as a bit better, Yoshi went inside Marcella's door to inform her "Milady, the Ambassador of Cartoonia has just arrived."

"Thank you, Yoshi, please show him in."

"Certainly."

Yoshi returned to the ambassador, "Her Highness will see you now, right this way please." She lead him through the door to Marcella's office. "The Cartoonian Ambassador, Milady."

"Thank you, Yoshi. Mr. Ambassador, welcome, please come in and sit." She urged him to take the seat in front of her desk, as she sat back down. "I understand the Cartoonian Government has taken a great interest in this recent event, I understand why, many have. Well at risk of having you come down here for nothing, I've agreed to a mediation to be done by Mervay, very likely on their own soil. I've also written the Sultana personally to begin the process of apology. You've likely seen the newspapers, about the Princess Aurelia's regards of me as a Duchess. I won't lie, it stung hard, she's someone I confided deeply with and now I feel she's let a lot of that confidence out, even if not intentionally. Anyway, that is that, what's done is done. So what does Cartoonia wish to discuss with me today? I hope I can be of some solace to your Leader whom has shown his concern for us."

"Alima, good to meet you." Mola replied as she uttered out their code words she nodded replying back in Esperanto, "Komprenita, amiko. Palaco Abigail Naŭ. Ĉieliro, Sep, dek kvin, unu, du, dek naŭ, sep, dudek kvin, ses. Mago."

Mago repeated the numbers both forwards and backwards. She also pulled out a knife and handed it over to Mola. The knife in question had a hollowed out handle just should they write anything to drop a coded message to be picked up. "Mia amiko, I was only informed you'd be coming and to be ready for arrival. So if you are able to inform me do so otherwise I have our coordinates."

"I am here to inform you Mola, and even more. Pluva told me of your skills as a gardener, and there is something that has arisen for the mission given to us that requires those skills." says the ACI Arabic agent with a smile.

Once again, she takes a small piece of paper out of her pants pocket, and shows it to the Coronan woman, just like she did with her colleagues a few moments ago.

"This job offer came in the Utica Herald this morning. As I explained to your colleagues earlier, th Households of Kyrenaian Royalty and Nobility do not hire anyone off the streets, and require applicants to have a solid reputation in their field of work, and also to have trained in a Handmaiden Academy.
While this, a Household of someone not as high up in society as the Sultana or the Ilkhans, but still high enough to be associated with them, while not having the same standards of recruitment for their staff."

Alima lets a beat pass, allowing Mola to digest the information.

"I will get straight to the point: if you agree, we would like to send you for this job. But if you accept to go in there, we will need to work on a fictional legend and background so that you look the part when you go in.
So, are you in or not for this Mola?" asks ALima with a serious tone.
