How much is the maximum number of songs I can participate with? I see a number of nations participating in a number of songs.

I guess there's no limit, but the norm is to submit one tune per nation you participate with. So Nova Kartago would have one RL tune. Some people are indecisive on so have a National Final where they ask people to vote for their favourite song of the ones they have on their minds. The winner (one song) goes onto compete at WorldVision.

The official logo for the Elejamian bid for the 90th WorldVision Song Contest

Haldo! I’m Elejamie, the tolerable loser of WorldVision. Two second place finishes (once of which came with literally the last set of points), two fourth place finishes and a fifth place finish. And four other top ten finishes. I tried to run for the Committee leading up to the 86th edition and finished 8th out of 11. And now I’m trying my hand at bidding to host the competition. Not for the first time, however, as Placely Placington did a no-hoper bid for 87th edition that was somewhat unorthodox and was only made to expand on the whole mythos. But this will be the first time I’ll be bidding with my main and I’m hoping to show you guys why it might not be a bad idea to host the 90th edition of this contest in this admittedly terribly named nation, as well as give you a bit of backstory. Now let me turn from just a single person to a single person speaking on behalf of my nation’s broadcaster to explain what I plan to do.

1. SAFETY FIRST

We all know how the COVID-19 epidemic is ravaging the world with millions of deaths so far, many more still sick from it or with some permanent damage, thousands of things having to be cancelled or put on hold until it subsides for long enough and several countries having to enforce strict preventative measures (including but not limited to lockdowns) just to tackle the virus. And, sadly, we are no exception. With 472 deaths so far out of a total of 9,581 total cases, we kind of dropped the ball at first but with some incredibly quick and tough measures we were able to get things back under control. And we want to ensure that it will remain under control as we host one of the biggest competitions in the multiverse.

So how are we going about all this? First of all, when you arrive, you will be subjected to a quick COVID test regardless of whether or not you have taken one prior to arrival. This is to ensure that you haven’t contracted the virus mid-flight because, if you have, chances are you’ll be on a flight back home. In fact, we urge entrants and their entourage to travel on a private plane (and urge them to take a test prior to departure) to ensure that there’s a smaller risk of anyone contracting it mid-flight. Secondly we have a strict quarantine policy for those entering the nation. Much like our citizens exiting our borders having to hole themselves up for a week, all of those flying into the nation will have to quarantine themselves in a hotel regardless of how prevalent the virus is in their nation; those coming in from a nation with a low amount of, if any, daily cases will have to quarantine themselves for seven days, those coming in with a medium amount of daily cases is ten days, and those with a high amount of cases will have to quarantine for fourteen days. No exceptions. Yes, Karen, this includes you. Maybe you could try speaking to the coronavirus’ manager or something. And thirdly, masks will have to be worn while in stores and in any other designated public areas, hand sanitiser will be freely available while you’re out and about and people are urged to keep a distance of 2m (6 feet) when possible.

You may be wondering to yourself “Why would anyone want to visit Elejamie if they have to go through all that?” And, to be fair, “Why would anyone want to visit Elejamie?” would be a good question in general but that’s for another day. And we’ll tell you: Our tourism board, Welcome Home, has worked with a number of package holiday providers to make sure those travelling from abroad will get a free week or two to make up for the time spent in quarantine. For entrants travelling into the country to perform, they will be holed up in one of a number of five star hotels in either Avon or Coventry. And for those whose travel provider was unable to get you a free week or two, we will try and help you get a free flight home at the end of your stay. And if you’re think that this seems unfeasible, then just repeat to yourself “It’s just a game, I should really just relax”.

2. WELCOME TO AVON

So you’ve arrived in the country, you’ve managed to avoid cabin fever and now you’re ready to hit the town. And you may be wondering what to do first before you step on the Aventry Metro, hire a taxi or use your rental car. Have no fear, here’s a breakdown of what to do in this city of 1.1 million, other than the usual cafe, restaurant or shopping trip:

Image
Clockwise from top left: The Avon Museum of Modern Art, with its logo sans wordmark in the top left; Argonaut Lane, home to the Avon Knights rugby union team, Avon Warriors rugby league team, Avon White Diamonds FC and Avon LFC; an EPBL match between the Avon Saints and the Iceland Fire at the Riverside Arena; the food court at the East Orchards Shopping Centre; the Avon Gay Village Community Centre; and a bustling scene from the farmer's market in Murgatroyd.

Avon is a city of culture and, indeed, was the first Elejamian City of Culture back in 2013. The Goldenderry district in the heart of downtown is unofficially referred to as the “Museum District'' and for a good reason, as it’s home to the National Museum of Art, the Avon Museum of Modern Art (or AMMA for short) that’s just a stone’s throw away and the National Transport Museum. There’s also the Avon Botanical Gardens located on the outskirts of the city should downtown not satisfy your cravings. For a show, there’s the Bristol district which hosts a number of performing arts centres such as the Broadenchurch Theatre, the Bristolian Centre and the Cochrane; there’s the Avon Operahaus which not only is one of two main opera houses in the Aventry area but is also home to the Avon Philharmonia; and there’s the StarLand Cinema, which is the largest cinema in the nation and nestled snugly on the edge of the Avon CBD. And, for those who wish to take part in any religious services during their stay, there are a number of churches, mosques, the odd synagogue and other religious buildings dotted round the city, as well as the Avon Cathedral which also functions as a museum when services aren’t in session.

For those who are sports-mad, you’ve come to the right place. There’s the Avon Stars in the ENIHL, as well as its female counterpart in the Avon Thunder of the ENWIHL. There’s the Avon Saints of the EPBL. There’s the Avon Knights in the ERC, the University of Avon Cats in the University League, the Avon Warriors in the HBRL (soon to be renamed EERL) and the Avon Sphinx in the EWRC. There are a handful of bowls venues dotted around the entire Aventry metro area, including on the Pembroke Golf Course just on the edge of Avon which has weekly competitions open to anyone. There’s a myriad of soccer teams, with Avon FC being the main team but smaller sides such as Avon Egremont FC, Avon LFC and Efontari Iyilim FT calling the city home. And, of course, there’s the Battle of the Bridge, a series of rivalries between sports teams from Avon and sports teams from their cross-river rivals Coventry, all of which tend to sell out very quickly and get good ratings, so expect a tense but ultimately thrilling atmosphere should anyone catch a game between the Stars and the Puffins, the Knights and the Wyverns, the Warriors and the Saviours, the Saints and the Nets and many more.

I also know what a number of you are thinking. You’re wondering what the city’s like when it comes to LGBT stuff. Well, let me tell you. To kick things off, we have the famous Hephaestus Pub, the nation’s first (and as of 2020 only) gay brewpub, where the scrawniest twink, the hairiest bear, the most effeminate queen and the most chiselled hunk can all get together to have a pint and be treated as equals. There’s also the Gay Village, home to a number of bookstores, clubs, bars and other places tailor-fitted for the community; special mentions include LilyRose Books (the oldest LGBT book and comic store in the city), the Avon branch of G-A-Y, the Gay Village Community Centre and St. Sebastian’s Medical Centre. There’s the Avon Pride Parade, held every second Saturday in June since its inaugural edition in 1987 until the cancellation of the 2020 edition (although the 2021 edition will go ahead as planned). And Avon was the first city in the country (but not the first part of the country proper) to elect an openly gay mayor back in 1987, with a statue made in his honour after his death in 1995.

And now let’s get onto the cafés, restaurants and shopping centres that I kind of mentioned earlier. To start off we have the East Orchards Shopping Centre, home to a number of boutiques, stores and a few restaurants for when you want to have a quick snack in between shops. For something a little more upmarket, we have Boardway which is home to a number of high-end stores, most notably Blair’s Department Store. Or maybe you want to visit Murgatroyd for its monthly Farmer’s Market if you want something a bit more down to Earth. If you fancy a quick bite to eat then there are a number of places to chow down if you fancy looking beyond all the chain restaurants. There’s Pancakeria, an all-day breakfast joint that’s the home of the pankarito (essentially a burrito with a pancake instead of a tortilla), which can be ordered in sweet or savoury versions, as well as the pancake bowl and even milkshakes that can be drunk with a pancake straw. You’ve got Iyil Fud, which serves many traditional delicacies such as coriri (smoked fish wrapped in seaweed), caputimi (a fish stew, often served with sweet potatoes, mushrooms and cabbage), raerine (sweet potato bread, often used as a side dish) and its own take on caelu (a traditional pit oven) which sees a blend of traditional methods and modern barbecue coming together to make a unique experience. And we have one last and more down to earth example in Rylan’s, a burger joint that’s well known for its many custom combinations (such as the chilli cheeseburger, ramen chicken burger, a burger sandwiched between two pizzas and a spiced lamb burger topped with couscous) which can also be ordered in vegetarian and vegan options along with gluten free buns, as well as its signature sides such as garlic fries, jalapeno coleslaw and their signature homemade ketchup made to a secret recipe.

There’s one more place to talk about. No, we’re not talking about the capital Coventry, located across the river. We’re talking about where the contest will be hosted. Which brings us onto...

3. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

Image
Image

The contest will be hosted in the Riverside Arena, located on the banks of the Garpu River. Originally planned to be completed in time for the new Millennium, construction was finally finished in March 2000 due to a myriad of problems that saw construction get delayed. The arena is home to a number of sports teams such as the Avon Stars ice hockey team, Avon Saints basketball team and the national basketball team, among other teams. It also hosted the second edition of the rebooted ElejamieVision, which determined who would represent the nation at the 86th and 87th WorldVision Song Contests. Normally it has a capacity of 16,250 people with a potential to expand it to 17,000, although due to parts being tarped off and social distancing measures being enforced the number’s expected to be much lower. Fortunately, there’ll be a number of suites for those who are willing to dish out extra for them, a number of commentary booths for each broadcaster with all the necessary extras and a green room that not only conforms to social distancing measures but also has a free bar (and, knowing how the competition goes, I imagine a number of people would be needing it).

There’s nothing else worth mentioning here so let’s move on to...

4. STAGELY STAGINGTON

Image
(Image originally made by Neil Zhang and as such all credit should go to him. The only change I have made was shrinking the image to fit forum regulations.)

As you can see, we’ve carried on our triangle motif from the logo to the stage. They don’t seem to have any greater meaning in general other than the fact that the person who planned the logo really seemed to like triangles, so you’re free to add your own meaning onto it. Whether it be the three main people of Elejamie (more about that later), a religious meaning or just a tribute to shadowy conspirator organisation du jour, you name it and one of the higher ups will probably fudge an explanation related to it. As for what each bit of the stage does? While I’m sure you’ve got a good idea, let us break it down a little bit for you:

  • The two OLED screens on either side will primarily be used to give a better view of those who can’t see the stage that well. They can be used to add a little extra to your performance if you so choose, however. They’ll also be used to display the votes from each nation as well as provide tables and televote totals whenever possible.
  • The wireframe lights you can see located around those screens as well as the back of the stage are simply a way of providing a good light show. Every straight line is a different light so they don’t all have to be the same colour.
  • Those Triforce looking things at the top and the bottom of the rear bit of the stage? Also lights. Each triangle is a different light and again can be a different colour so, yes, theoretically you could have the three outer ones turned on with a yellow light and the middle one turned off.
  • Those isosceles triangles that seem to be cut into three? They’re just simply screens that can play anything that the artist desires. In fact the stage itself has the same technology so it can project whatever they want as well. Want to re-enact You Are The Only One or Help You Fly? Go for it.
  • Catwalks right at the front, just in case anyone wants any more room to work with. There are also three circular plinths, one big one at the front and two smaller ones on each side, for those who just want a place to stand for whatever reason.
  • Those rear walkways at the end of the stage are simply to get on or off the stage. However, for health and safety concerns and to keep things orderly, the one on the left will be for those heading onto the stage and the one on the right will be for those leaving it. People who try to use the wrong entrance/exit will be directed to the right one.
  • Not shown here but there are also a couple of portable screens that can be placed on either side of the rear stage should the artist/s require more projections.

And I bet you want to hear what sort of effects we have planned. And we’ve got a fair amount planned. Lasers, lights, pyrotechnics, fire, all that good and basic stuff. We might also bring in wind and fog machines for those who require them. Also, for those who feel like adding an orchestral touch to your entry, we’ve got you covered. The Avon Philharmonia have volunteered their services and can show up on the rear stage to add a touch of class; if you’re unable to find a conductor that’ll make the trek then fortunately we’ve also come prepared with Chris Basset, who had previously conducted Elejamie’s WV82 entry Since I Lost Him, prepared to step up with music sheets in hand and a baton ready to conduct some entries.

5. OUR GRACIOUS HOSTS

One of the first things that came to mind when ETV planned to submit this bid was to show how multicultural the country is. And they thought that one of the best ways to do it was to have three hosts. Why three hosts? Because each host will represent one of the three main people of Elejamie. We’ve got one representing the English-speakers (Anglo-Elejamians), who first settled on the island of Rosetta and eventually helped turn the series of islands into the country we know and acknowledge to this day; we’ve got one representing the Spanish-speakers (Hispano-Elejamians), who first arrived in the south-east of the mainland and, despite a strained relationship with the Anglos in the early days and a modern separatist movement on par with the real life Bloc Quebecois, proved and continue to prove to be a vital piece in the nation’s history; and you’ve got the native Elejamians (Iyilim), who first arrived in the 13-14th century and, upon the arrival of the settlers, helped them all survive on their new island home even if the sailing started getting a bit rough in the coming decades. Who are the lucky three? Let’s get briefly introduced to them:

Image
Nick J. Holland
Entertainer and occasional musician, best known for being a co-host of the smash late-night TV show Saturgay Night from 1997-2001 and from 2017 onwards. He will be a familiar face to those watching the Contest as he’s been the Elejamian spokesperson since the 80th edition, as well as the 74th and 78th WorldVisions before that. He will represent the Anglo-Elejamians.

Image
Andrea Pérez
Television hostess and entertainer, formerly known for co-hosting Casa de Diversión but is now one of the main anchors for the early evening TV show Good Evening Islands!, a light evening entertainment show for those in Rosetta and the Elephant Isles. She too has also been a spokesperson at the competition, as she and her husband Cerin Meloten gave the Elejamian points at the 40th edition. She will represent the Hispano-Elejamians.

Image
Yoni Maenilon
Singer who’s best known for being the frontman for the electronic duo Fata Morgana, although since the band's dissolution he has carved out a decent solo career. He will also be a familiar face to those who have participated in the contest as he and his former partner Patricio Esposito helped give Elejamie their first (of two) podium spots when their song Angel (I Can Feel You Now) finished second at the 75th edition in Monterra (as well as a familiar face to any WHF people because Togonistan used this guy for one of his artists). He will represent the Iyilim.

6. POSTCARDS FROM THE ELEJ

While a number of the graphics you see before you were designed in house, such as the mock-up of the stage and the captions down below, others such as the logo were made in conjunction with WR Graphics Design, a small graphics design company hailing from Malta Comino Gozo. We gave them ideas of what we wanted, they either did them to the letter or put their own spin on it after a bit of back-and-forth communication and produced some wonderful designs. We'd like to thank them for their hard work and we look forward to doing business with them again soon. Anyway, let's talk about what everyone's designed.

ImageImage
Trust me, they'll be a bigger size if this bid wins. They'll be 500 or 600 pixels wide and much taller, for a start.

Now, you may be wondering why these don’t look very postcardy. (And you’re right, they’re captions. After all, the real Eurovision Song Contest doesn’t display all the artist and song info in the actual postcard itself so I figured I might as well do the same. I had actual proper postcards in mind but whether or not I’ll go through with them is something I’ll consider past the deadline and in the event this bid wins.) Anyway, as clearly shown above, there will be a bar that’ll either be black or white, depending on what the primary colour of the nation’s flag is. In the “AV” triangles on the left you see where in the running order the entrant’s performing, whereas on the right the “ON” triangles make up their flag. The middle bit will just be the nation’s name. Inside that grey bit will be the artist and the song name. Don’t worry about providing information about composers or lyricists, by the way, as they’ll be shown on the next slide that'll be shown ICly but not OOCly.

Image
Click on the picture above to see a much larger version. This idea will also be carried over to the actual contest itself should this bid win. A text version will also be provided at certain points either to pass the time while I correlate the results or if the images stop working. The scoreboard at the contest should hopefully also feature fewer typos.

As you can see, there are three separate columns for each nation instead of two separate ones. This was partially done to avoid wasting space but also to carry on with the whole triangle motif with the three sides. Furthermore each column has a triangle at a different angle depending on which column it's in, with those at the top being in the left column whereas those near the bottom will be in the right one. Behind all of this will be a lovely stock footage shot of the host city itself with its famous Window Tower revolving restaurant in the foreground while a faded and distorted version of the national flag will pulsate and change its shape to provide a further visualisation. And, to cap off, the top three nations will have their names in gold, silver and bronze respectively whereas the last place nation will be shown in maroon.

7. IN CONCLUSION

And, with me just speaking for myself again, that’s your lot. I must admit that I had a small bit of a blast writing this bid, even if there was a bit of a gap between me starting it and me finishing it, which explains the changes in tone and why parts of it went from “we” to “I”. I hope you’ve enjoyed this bid and I can’t wait for it to finish third, even if there’s only one other person bidding. Seriously, if there’s only one other person bidding and they win it you have my permission to list me as third. And now, I’ll leave you with some notes on how I plan to have things or just any tidbits that I couldn’t exactly fit in any of the above categories. OK, thank you for slogging through reading this. Bye.

8. NOTES

  • I plan to do the televote reveal in blocks. I’ll start off with the disqualified nations so don’t be confused as to why they appear with their points even if they don’t end up voting, then the nul pointers, then the nations with ten or fewer points. After that, I’ll do it normally where it’s one post per nation. Expect a bit of banter to liven things up and to pad things out more.
  • I will be using a firm deadline for this competition, which means that I will NOT be accepting any new entries after 8pm BST on 17th May, 2021. However, if you’ve already posted before then, whether it be a WIP or just a reservation post, then you’ve got until 2am the following day (9pm same day EST) to get it all completed. If there’s anything you want to change after that, then please let a Committee member know so they could give permission because while I might be fine with it I doubt I have the actual authority to do anything.
  • Voting is definitely a hard deadline unless you give me 12 points at which point I’ll allow it :P and any votes/televotes submitted after the aforementioned time might not be accepted.
  • The jury scoreboard will be revealed at 9 or 10pm the same day the voting closes, with the text version being posted first while I work on the official graphical version. The televote reveal will more than likely be the day after, although if this changes I will provide a notice on here.
  • For those on the Discord: While I have no idea what time the Asia-Pacific listen-along will be and will probably leave it up to someone in that area to sort out, I intend to have the Atlantic-European listen-along at 9pm (4pm EST) on Wednesday 18th May; it was originally going to be scheduled for the day before I moved it ahead to avoid overlapping with the first Eurovision semi and I don’t think anyone would be interested if I moved it to after. I promise I will not do my usual trick of sticking an extra, unfitting song at the end, although I will use a condensed version of my planned interval act to close things out instead. For those who aren’t on the Discord, please disregard this.
  • Once again I am thanking Malta Comino Gozo, except this time it's OOCly, for not only helping make some of the graphics (such as the logo) but also by giving feedback and help with the ones that I made myself. Really appreciate the offer and the hard work you put in, bud.

ROMI SELA WILL BE HEADING TO THE 90TH WORLDVISION SONG CONTEST

After much speculation as to who would be the Kishraeli representative at the 90th edition of the contest after it was confirmed that Kdam-WorldVision wouldn't take place this edition, tonight at 22:00, HARESHET announced that Romi Sela would be heading to the contest with the song "Jinn". Romi, a Kishraeli of Ethiopian origin, is known among some social media circles as an activist, musician, and influencer who has had previously successful released two previous songs before getting the call for WorldVision. The song, "Jinn", in reference to the Middle Eastern mythical spirits, is drenched in Mizrahi influences, bringing a distinctly more ethnic style to what one may expect from Ertzei Kishim. This is the second time in a row in which the country has snubbed a dance track for something different. In the most recent contest, Sderot Rothschild finished 7th with the song "Mahari Na".

Normally I would've waited a few hours or even the next day to post this but there's a bit of an issue. After about a week's worth of voting, there is a tie. Not for first place, as that's already been sorted out and no other song can theoretically catch up to it as evidenced by me putting it in the spoiler below. Instead, I am talking about the second placed song. There are two songs who both finished with 41 points and, to make things more gripping, fourth place is only two points behind them so theoretically it can be my WV91 entry. Last place has already been decided so there's no need to worry about it. Apart from the winning song I will not name any names just to leave y'all guessing.

As a result of this whole conundrum, I have extended my NF deadline a further two hours so it's now closing at 2am on Wednesday 21st April (9pm EST on Tuesday 20th April), with the possibility of extending it even further if I don't get any votes before then I doubt I'll have to do that but it's always best to make sure all of your bases are covered. 2am has now passed with no further votes so the new new deadline's 12pm UK time (7am EST) on Wednesday 21st April. It'll also give me enough time to decide a final tie-breaker if I don't receive any more votes.

P.S. When everything's been sorted out and I've gotten my tie-breaker then this'll be converted into a normal results reveal post. Until then, you're only getting what's underneath this.

Worldvision: I'm too lazy to decide myself so I'm letting you do it!
Uhh so we got results, so..

Thanks to the juries in Talvezout, Elejamie and Britonisea! I am so very sorry!
So without further ado, the results are as follows...

3rd: Beans & Co - Title Not Final - -4 points!
2nd: Abcde Zweeblinfaabe - Spin Cycle - -2 points!
1st: Vera Long - ok - 0 points!

Yes, the least hated of these was Vera Long's "ok", which means that she'll be representing us this edition, followed by Abcde and then Beans & Co!
So I guess that's it thanks for coming we have drinks in the back.
I AM NOT A PUPPET!!!11!!!

The Spiritual Republic of Caryton
(CARYTON VIDEO)
A serene & puritan 80s-90s tech agrarian Christian fundamentalist nation with no separation between church and state. Wide prairies, fertile plains, archaic clothing, clean skies, lack of modern influence, universal prohibition, kind societies, and simple austere lives forge the Carytonic identity.

Tobu's Lagoa returns. Will MTL finally pull through with a half decent entry? Gods no one knows.

We can reveal, however, that the planned act is Cenge Fekete with her song "Draudo" (Dangerous).

Tune: Rina Sawayama - "XS" X "Toxic"
