kiu, i wake up at 6:00. i go to a real school, not this "online" school, meaning i lose 2 hours in the morning, then another 7 1/2 hours for school (and yes, NS is blocked there), then I come home, losing about 20 minutes, and have homework for another hour or so, then I have to do productive stuff for another hour, and by then, it's time for supper, and after that, I have to do other chores and stuff, and by the time I even have the opportunity to get on a computer, it's 7:00 and my parents expect me to get off of it at 8:00. so I get an hour of free time, that I then have to divide up between NS and other things, and even then, I can't really fully use my computer because I don't have superuser access on my own damn computer. sure, you may have more schoolwork, but you can actually use your free time. and guess what: this summer isn't gonna be any better, either, because i've got ACT prep to do. and that's gonna take time. maybe even vacations or trips, which, you guessed it, is more time I get to not write for NS.

to put that in perspective, if I were to type NS lore for a nonstop hour at a blistering 80 wpm, I would be able to crank out about 4500 words. but not only can I not type that fast, I also don't usually get a full hour. so nonstop typing for an hour might get me 2000 words, but i'm not nonstop typing, so rol that back to say, 1000. now, that is a 1000 words per day. but I don't spend a whole hour on NS, so rol that back to... what, 750? 500 words a day? and usually, I can't concentrate, and write 0 words. and remember, I still have to post here, and sometimes in F7... and if I effortpost there... that's more time lost.

and on the weekends, I'm usually gone doing other things with my family, so that means I often don't get a chance at all to write on those days. so, if I were to write an Ari-length factbook at 10,000+ words, it might take me a literal month to get something like that done. and that's not counting graphics or BBCode experimentation, which I usually never get a chance to work on at all. something like palisade is literally fucking impossible for me. you've written 50k words for that. that'd take me four months to do just counting the text! doing the graphics, the BBCode, learning how it works, making maps, pictures? that might take me another four months to do. that's 2/3s of a year. and that's assuming everything goes well and I don't lose progress or otherwise stop working on the stuff every day. i have been on NS for only about a year and three months or so. that's how long it probably would take me to make palisade just to where it is now.

ah, fair. though I will point out I did go back to in-person school a couple months ago, NS just isn't blocked there. hope you can end up finding more time, but I definitely understand why posts take a bit a lot more now, at least.

Screams of pain, of terror, of insanity. To her right, she saw the silhouette of a man, tying a noose to a bar, almost hesitating to take his life. She ran in his direction and entered the warehouse. She had thought it was too late, that he had hanged himself. Once she came in, he felt her eyes staring right at him. He could feel her gaze grow into one of fear.

Then she finally spoke up, trying to pull him out of it.

"Hey, is everything alright?" She asked, with the tone in her voice becoming one of uneasiness.

"No, I-I'm not doing alright. Please leave me be, I just want to-"

"Listen to me, you matter. You, from what I can tell, don't deserve what you're doing to yourself. Please, let me help you.

I know how you feel, and I want to make you feel happy for once. Please, it'll get better, I promise."
He was, suffice to say, surprised. he never thought, that at least once in his life did someone even think that he wasn't a scourge on the planet. She appeared genuine, too. The fact that someone would go out of their way to help someone, who was clearly insane and not within reason, to make sure that they didn't kill themselves, that they could be able to finally seek help, was a novelty to him.

"Wait, someone actually cares about me?" He thought. He could hear his own subconscious talking to him, telling him to take his neck off the noose.

"Take it off, you deserve to live." She said. "Now, come on down, everything will be alright. Alright?"

"uhhh-

Fine."

He slowly got off the chair and began removing the noose around his neck. After that, he had gotten close to her, shook her hand, and she asked him one thing:

"Hey, do you remember where you live? I can take you there if you want."

He was nervous, he didn't want to tell her that he was homeless. But he needed somewhere to live. Finally, he told her that he didn't have anywhere to go.

"I'm uh, I'm homeless. I don't have anywhere to go anymore."

Her facial expression, which was one of relief until that point, had turned into a more calculative, thoughtful one.

After a brief silence, she had figured out a solution.

"Welp, I'm sorry to hear that. I can let you stay in my place though, you'll just have to sleep on the couch for the moment. Oh, and I noticed that your arms are kinda bleeding a bit, I can patch it up for now until we get to my apartment. I got some medical supplies to help with the wounds." She said.

"That's actually very generous of you. And yeah, guess I can go to your place for a bit." He replied. Despite the mask he was wearing, his face had turned from an expression of pain into a more joyful one.

"Alright. And in case your wondering, my name is Katerina, and yours?"

'Don't remember it at all, but I guess it's just 049."

"Alright. Now, we gotta go, it's getting late."

BACK TO 1994

He felt a tear running down his cheek. "Thank god I'm wearing this mask." He thought. He was hoping that she was alright, that she was getting better. He wanted to-

No, he had to seek help soon. The risks didn't matter at all to him, he had to get help, and he knew it. He felt terrible for her, despite everything that happened to her, she would soldier on, always helping him as much as he could. "And what have I done for her in return?" He thought, he didn't know what to do at all to help her.

"Am I even a good person?" He thought. "Am I even her best friend? Am I even real?"

Then, he noticed a figure, a tall, menacing figure sitting next to him. He spoke in a thick, almost unintelligible Ukrainian accent.

That son of a bitch.

He was, at least to him, the complete personification of his mental issues. He'd always appear next to him, always taunting him, trying to bring him down to his level of savagery, every time something had gone wrong. Every damn time, he would always try to destroy him. To mess with him, to mold him into his own puppet, his own vessel.

All for the sake of raising hell, all to satisfy whatever nationalistic bullshit Apis believed.

And it never worked.
