Giuseppe calmly let Hillshire ease off of him, and then slammed his chest, crushing the radio and causing one last transmission. This was the per-arranged panic-signal; under this plan Hillshire would run and Giuseppe would cover him.

Hillshire, for his part, ran like hell, drawing his pistol as he did so. Giuseppe, however, kept his pistol in his holster and stared down Nura and Garibaldi more or less unarmed.

"I had done so." the Italian calmly replied. "But this situation has appears to have made rescinding that necessary."

He glanced around the room. "Apologies to the more...reasonable and level-headed delegations here. I highly suggest you all evacuate this building before our host has another breakdown."

Mariana and Sophia

The two girls walked hand-in-hand as they headed home.

"Sophia?" The older, olive-skinned girl asked, glancing at her younger compatriot. "Are you alright?"

"I...I'm fine." Sophia replied, softly. "I really am, Mariana. I just wish, I could have..."

Thema IV - Gunslinger Girls

Both girls halted, as if struck by lightning. A long, monotonous beep - the distress signal, that indicated that something had gone badly at the conference.

More quickly than should have been possible for a 12 year old and 16 year old schoolgirl, respectively, both took off towards the conference building, which all told, wasn't too far off. As soon as they came up to the entrance, both released their cases, revealing an immense wealth of ammunition, and weapons; a pair of M9 pistols for both of them, Mariana's Winchester Model 1897 with bayonet, and Sophia's P90.

Both nodded at each other and kicked in the door, immediately spraying down and suppressing the guards with a rain of bullets. Both knew their orders - Sophia would extract Hillshire and any foreign ambassadors with him, while Mariana would extract Giuseppe and any foreign ambassadors with him.

With one man held at swordpoint, the Field Marshal adding fuel to the fire by the gallon and one of the SWA-men taking off while the other bashed his chest in, things looked dire. Deescalation was not exactly the order of business for the day, especially since the attack on Mister Guiseppe had come out of thin air.
Guiseppe recommended us to evacuate, but there was not enough time before two teenagers kicked down the doors to the building. Liliane and I were still wondering what in the blazes was going on when we heard shots being fired.
The Great Woods Rangers had given us a bit of a crash course in what to do in such situations. In the words of the Sergeant from back then, No heroics. Down to the ground and let the professionals do their thing!

Alfred ducked while covering his ears and yelled “Silence all of you!!!May I have a final word in this debate? Now not all people are ‘compatible’ nor ‘safe’ towards each other as you can see right now. In order to appease both sides and steer away from war, I say that we split Italy into two, North and South. The South will belong to Insaanistan , while the North will become an independent state, separate from Isaani affairs. There will be a DMZ between these two nations, as well as Rome being declared as a neutral zone. I think this will be in the best interest of both Isaani and Italy.

Giuseppe was standing in shock as the standoff abruptly ended and started again. Before he could come to his senses, however, a familiar-and welcome- voice could be heard.

Mariana burst through the door, shoulder first, and whipped her shotgun around in record time. One, two, three, four, five six 12-gauge buckshot rounds went into the guards at point-blank range, followed by Mariana whipping out her pistol and putting bullets into the heads of the arriving guards with a speed more reminiscent of a machine than a young woman, followed by a bayonet being driven again into Garibaldi. Without bothering to check if her targets were dead, Mariana then pulled her shotgun out, rapidly loaded it again, grabbed Giuseppe's arm and dragged him out, motioning for all other representatives to follow. "Sophia!" she shouted into her radio. "Package Golf secured. Extracting; do you need any help?"

A burst of gun answered her at first, followed by the voice of Sophia. "I'm all good, Mariana! A dozen or so, I think. Haven't found package "Hill", though."
"Ha! Amateur, I've gotten a dozen and a half!"
"Hmph!"
"Oh, come off it. Meet me at the agreed extraction point, aye?"
"Aye."
