It is tempting to spend every weekend at Boracay. I ought to know; the island is among the first place one has in mind when thinking about spending a vacation in the Confederation. Then again, I'm with some of my colleagues at the moment. We had dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant in Kalibo and are heading off to Boracay. There's a special night trip for guests of the Black King Bar and Casino, and I'm playing tour guide to the lovebirds, one of whom happens to be the new guy in the team working on a research project involving nerve regeneration, with two others going straight for the slot machines. Yeah, the Franklin and Ruiz Center for Regenerative Medicine does have its swell folks.

@Clara Österreich-Toskana: Congratulations! And if you don't mind me tossing my hat in this here discussion, there is always the possibility of adoption.

The Gospel reading for the Sixth Sunday of Easter is Jn 15:9-17, which forms the other part of the discourse known as The Vine and the Branches and immediately follows last week's Gospel reading. Here Jesus sums up the Commandments of God The Father in three words: love one another (verse 17).

How many times have we found ourselves failing to love one another? How many times have we said to ourselves that "this person deserves to be kicked down on sight" or "this institution should be destroyed and its members lined up against a wall" or "these people are plain EVIL because of their profession?" Are we really showing love to one another when we are convinced that killing off People We Do Not Like is the only option available to us? More to the point, are we really showing love to one another when we turn a blind eye to those in need? We shall find the answer as soon as we examine our consciences.

On a more interesting note: while it is rare for La Parroquia Militar de Sta. Barbara to see a Traditional Latin Mass--prior to this coming Thursday, the last time this happened was two months ago, on March 5th--the parish will be having Traditional Latin Masses on a regular basis starting May 13th, at 1200. In addition, the Sunday/Holy Day of Obligation/Solemnity schedules for the parish and the JSAC Chapel have changed: 0600/1200/1800 for Masses at the parish, and 0900/1500 for Masses at the Joint Strategic Arms Command Chapel. As mentioned, beginning May 13th, which for this year is the Solemnity of the Ascension where it is observed as a Holy Day of Obligation, the Mass at 1200 will be celebrated in the Extraordinary Form.
