In a speech earlier this afternoon Assemblyman Anthony Quirante (SP-SQ 5) laid the recent incidents on what he states were "the unrepentant reactionaries of Manila." Quirante, one of the authors of the joint resolution recommending that the President and the Federal Council declare martial law, has further stated that the activation and federalization of all available Territorial Divisions would be needed, as the likelihood of further escalation increases by the day.

On behalf of H.I.M. the Emperor, we are incredibly saddened and appalled to learn of the horrific murders of our nationals abroad. Our thoughts are with the families and friends, who had loved ones torn away from them by this senseless act of violence.
At 11:25 local time today, gunmen in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil opened fire on a bus carrying 44 Spanish tourists, killing all on board. The attackers then dragged out and burned the bodies of the victims at the roadside, before fleeing the scene in three 4x4s. According to local police sources, the attackers were members of the Comando Vermelho (Red Command), a radical Marxist-Leninist insurgency group, which has been clashing with the Brazilian government for power since the second half of the 20th century. This group has been responsible for countless abductions, murders and terror attacks in Brazil. However, today's attack against foreign tourists was unprecedented—usually, government buildings and convoys are the target of choice for such groups. In addition, the attack took place in government-controlled territory which has traditionally been considered relatively safe for travel, whereas the majority take place in conflict zones and rebel-held areas.
This repugnant attack on innocent Spanish civilians represents an attack on our Empire as a whole, and shall be met with harsh repercussions for the guilty parties. On advice of an emergency Council of State assembly, the Emperor has authorized the armed forces to launch an offensive campaign against rebel insurgent strongholds in northern and eastern Brazil. It is hoped that this will greatly weaken groups like the Comando Vermelho, and deprive them of their means to commit further war crimes and atrocities.

I'll pray for everyone who was effected by this atrocity.

Armed gays are harder to bash, armed minorities difficult to oppress. Isn't it a wonder, then, that those steeped in privilege would deny others the right to bear arms? Be it the samurai lording over the peasantry with an absolute monopoly on the sword and the right to put said peasantry to the sword over matters of honor, or the slave owner who mistreats his slaves through every conceivable means, it all boils down to the same desire to maintain that privilege.
As we enter Pride Month, we must keep that lesson in mind. Trust me, the reactionaries from the North know this. How else can they justify their conviction that privilege is all that matters?

As the International LGBT Pride Month 2022 starts today, I feel especially lucky to be a Selkie, as the proverb says. As a lesbian woman, I am here in an oasis of liberty and freedom for people of my sexual orientation, but not everyone who is like me or my wife is as lucky. I am thinking of the lassies and lads in Kyrenaia, where being homosexual was legalized in 2000, I am thinking of the street children in Teressien, where children run away from their homes out of fear of who they are and what they are, I am thinking of Kupandukira, where all factions of the Civil War agree upon stoning homosexuals with reckless abandon.
It would be wrong to say, that the Free Lands are a safe haven for anyone and everyone, though: Last year, the Free Lands turned away 1,032 people seeking asylum due to being prosecuted for their sexual orientation (with various reasons, including failure to fill out the paperwork correctly). The Selkie have an issue with hermaphrodites (myself included) and transgender people. Male Marcach like live and work in a world of toxic masculinity, which prevented quite a few from coming out.
Weapons will do little to solve the issues we are facing, only good policy and standing up peacefully will bring the change we need. Princess Aurelia in Kyrenaia and the Principality's Big Sis Enya Findehoof are good starts, as are Doctor Araon and Mister Oighar - but we also need a change in mindsets.
