IBA Council Elections

Hi everyone! I am pleased to announce that the 2nd IBA Council elections will soon be taking place. I have to say it's been quite overdue, but these elections will be the first since the official establishment of the IBA here on NationStates and, therefore, the first to openly take place here on the forums.

The IBA Council consists of 7 seats. One seat is reserved for the World Hit Festival Overseer, and another is automatically filled by a representative of the WorldVision Song Contest Committee—both positions are elected by a public vote. In this election, the remaining 5 seats will be up for grabs.

There are four roles that you can undertake as a member of the Council. If you are running for election, please declare which roles you are interested in taking, and you can pick multiple roles. The roles are as follows:

Arts & Culture: 2 seats. This role is in charge of the general IBA Arts & Culture thread, as well as the IBA Programme Exchange thread, where members can post their nation's shows and televised events for airing in other member nations.

Press: 1 seat. This role is in charge of overseeing the smooth running of the IBA's Newswire thread.

Secretariat: 1 seat. This role is in charge of the running of the main IBA thread, and therefore has the responsibility of periodically processing sign ups, posting any relevant announcements, and just in general being the IBA's go-to for general inquiries.

Sport: 1 seat. This role is in charge of the IBA's Sport's thread, which entails the management of sign ups for IBA-linked sporting events as well as general sporting discussion among iBA members.

IBA HQ Bidding

Thank you to Makhaviv, Ertzei Kishim for hosting our offices in the past year and a half.

At the conception of the organization, it was decided that the location of the headquarters of the IBA is to be rotated on a yearly basis through an annual bidding process. Bidding is now finally open and countries (NOT broadcasters) are free to submit proposals to host IBA HQ on their territory for the remainder of 2022 as well as the year 2023. Please keep in mind that the IBA is a telecommunications organization so the bid should focus on how the proposed site suits the organization's activities, rather than focus on tourism or visitor experience.

Given the timing of this bidding process, the winning bid shall host the organization's headquarters until at least the end of 2023. If you wish to submit an HQ bid, please fill in this form below, writing up to one paragraph only in the final prompt of the form:

Valletta is a UNESCO world heritage site as it is one of the most concentrated historic places in the world. The downtown however is purposefully designed to be a business hub for Malta Comino Gozo's knowledge economy, attracting both local and international companies. As well as this, MCG plays an integral role in IBA affairs arranging many IBA shows on tv including Worldvision and World Hit Festival and has proved itself as a phenomenal host on many occasions. MCG has a healthy and growing ICT and high-tech industry. The MCGBC HQ built in 1929 and is one of the first skyscrapers in the country occupies 4,617 square meters (49,697 square feet) and offers 36,317 square meters (390,913 square feet) of floor space. The building is ten stories in height. The main building is 77 meters (253 feet) high to the roofline, and 83 meters (272 feet) to the spire.

The builders followed a consistent art deco scheme, from exterior design to interior decor. Most of the building features granite facing, while the ninth floor and the roof are surfaced with terracotta. The eastern facade (facing Valletta Bay) features a pyramidal roof with steep sides and a height of about 10 meters (33 feet). The pyramid is faced with copper, which has corroded to light green.

(Optional, max. 1 paragraph) Why should we vote for you?: Whilst I've been on the Board for nearly two years, I've had my time being the World Hit Festival representative and also the Arts & Culture representative. I believe that in both of those roles, I was very active - especially with the last role where I was able to do the IBA Film & Television Awards, which saw 17 people vote and 20 nations broadcasting the event. However, I did this job by myself in a department that really should've had two seats. I would like to move on from Arts & Culture (hence why I haven't included it at all in my declaration of interest) and move onto Sports as it's something that I am particularly knowledgeable on in NS. ICly, Britonisea - alongside the rest of the ABEN Union - has finished fourth at the past two NS Olympic Games, winning a total of 101 medals during this time showing the nation's depth in a wide range of sports. Britonisea is currently gearing up to host its fifth edition of the Britonish Open in its national sport, tennis. The nation has also contributed to sports in an IBA aspect, hosting the 1st IBA Football Champions League alongside Togonistan which saw 130 clubs participate. Going forwards, I would like to put the same energy I put into Arts & Culture into Sports to get it up and running again. I've been speaking behind closed doors to several members of the IBA Community about coming up with a structured plan to introduce sports to the IBA. With my background in xkoranating events (the most used programme to make scores up) and knowledge of sports thanks to my huge interest in the NS Olympic Games, I've come up with a plan to introduce up to 10-15 different sports spread across my tenure which nations can use in preparation for the next Olympic Games. It was my plan to OOCly score the events unless a host has a (sufficient) background in xkoranate and wants to try, allowing anybody to bid to host certain events that aren't hosted in the ABEN Union - for which there will be plenty. I plan to introduce a certain number of sports in sections (maybe every two months or so), in a similar way to how the NationStates Tennis Tour runs, allowing nations to submit a small number of athletes (around 30-60 say) for a number of sports/events. The problem with multisport events especially on this level is that signing up deters people from participation which is why I'd like for it to be in smaller increments like what I'm proposing. I then plan to add the IBA Champions in one uniform iiwiki page for everyone to look at as well keep a list on IBA Records (as the NS Olympics does have Olympic Records - this would be separate but one can compare the scores in their RPs). I look forward to executing a plan that I've been working on and those that I've spoken to are excited too.

Despite my lacking participation in the organization aside from being a constant participants of the two song contests, I put my interest in the arts and culture. While I do applaud for the success of 1st IBA Film and Television Award, I wish to expand the arts and culture perspective beyond the programs broadcasted by the broadcasters. As arts and culture encompassed a range of different aspects such as dance, cuisine and even fashion. These fields that I wish to brought up while the IBA Film and Television Award will be continue to held.

Surely such a technical advantage is an essential need for the multiverse's largest broadcasting organization? Its rural location means that plenty of undeveloped land can be used, for example, to install IBA infrastructure or house the organization's multiversal workforce. Consider also factors like low crime rates, high quality of living, and easy access to basic living needs as well as various other goods. Siéra Alba residents are among the happiest citizens on this side of Kalosia, and they surely will be very happy to greet the International Broadcasting Alliance with open arms.

Why should we vote for you?: I love TV, film and media, and am passionate about writing and storytelling so I'd love to lead this department. Though I have little experience in running things, I think I more than make up for that with my love for all things arts and the like. I recently won 4 awards at the IBA awards entailing my show 'City of Cranes', a little passion project I made, so I hope you can see I'm truly passionate about this stuff! Brit did an amazing job at running the thread so I'd hope to continue his dedication, as well as hopefully being able to host the 2nd IBA awards next year. Another thing I'd like to venture into is the possibility of RPed reality shows, like an IBA Big Brother which everyone could partake in with their own character or Real Housewives of Peeto (idk), IBA Love Island, IBA Survivor or something entirely new. I'd also like to give people the opportunity to delve into the details of their TV & Culture, though that's something in the early stages of my brain processing. I think these would be a fun direction that I'd love to take the Arts & Culture department in, and I hope you can see my vision!! ♡

I personally think that the IBA is a wonderful idea, and personally, I do have ideas of my own that I'd like to see about being implemented, such as racing competitions, an international movie awards (accepts non-IBA titles, similar to the Emmy's) among other ideas. In regards to the Secretariat, speaking from personal experience, they don't appear, at least the ones here currently, like the most active people, and if you check my NS activity, you'll see that I'm plenty active, guaranteed on the weekends, so I'll get people in the IBA hopefully quite quickly.

The smooth running of the newswire over the past year and a half under my watch has been pretty successful, with the newswire not really having any issues and being one of the more regularly active IBA threads. I would like to continue this in this role and improve on it going forward. Being that this seat is basically just moderation of the thread, there isn't too much one can too, however as I plan to make a gradual comeback to NS rping in general in the near future, I hope to contribute my own news stories to the thread as well, and also encourage those who can write entire novels in the group Discord to consider publishing them on our thread too. Furthermore, as my role is a more passive one, I have stepped in to help other members of the council to fulfil their duties when things irl are more difficult/time sensitive for them, for example helping our secretariat by processing sign-ups and checking activity of members and helping out with this election itself, and I more than willing to continue being a jack of all trades for the group. Even if I take a little while, you can trust in me!
