OH NIGHT UNHOLY
"Hark, come yonder the white snow
A winter wind with fury it shall blow
For hither shall beasts that only old know
And strike a sick poison from below"

-=-

OOC |IC

-=-
IC INTRODUCTION
-=-

Oh, come all ye faithful. Winter has come to the Western Isles, and with its cold and darkness, arrives a new horror. A carol of madness, one conceived by an ordered chaos, crawling through the white pristine snow that has settled upon much of the land. A beast, biding its time, crawling its way up the frigid rocks.

Can you hear it? The timber sound of the jingling of bells. The crackling of fire. The whipping of the fierce bitter winds. The chorus of a thousand voices exalting a new season. It is coming. Do you not hear the scraping of rocks? The cries of animals? The rumbling above the rooftops? The smell of soot and ash? They are coming. And with their bidding, they shall bring forth a force that shall be reckoned with. A poison that shall seep through the foundations brick by brick, stone by stone, person by person, till nothing is left but the chiming of the clocks upon a silent night. A land of happiness, a happiness that they want. After all, isn’t that what we all wish for? A very... merry... existence.

You better not shout. You better not cry. You better not open your eyes. Something is coming to the Western Isles, and you wouldn’t want to end up on the naughty list.

-=-
OOC INFORMATION
-=-

Welcome to the start of an RP called Oh Night Unholy. It is a short horror-mystery themed RP centered on establishing the Cults, a conglomeration of religious cults in connection with the Arrangement, a secret global organization that will soon be revealed, that seek to establish sole domination throughout the Western Isles, either openly or covertly. They are present in all countries, the proverbial secret organizations mentioned only by conspiratorial lips and maddened witnesses. Their goals are simple,

  1. Destabilize nations in the Western Isles
  2. Take control of weak institutions due to destabilization
  3. Maintain secret control of all aspects of life

For this RP, we aim to establish characters, storylines, and important details with a Christmas / Horror / Mystery festive twist. An introduction to the religious cults that will play a part in the madness that will soon envelop the Western Isles. Our mission for this roleplay is to establish the Cults and to create a new plotline for the region that can be explored in further RPs in the future.

Be creative and imaginative with what you want to write. Bring conspiracy, drama, mystery, an element of horror, everything.

All nations that are a part of The Western Isles and are on the map are invited to this RP and storylines can be varied. There are no set central plots to follow, though cooperative plotlines is highly encouraged. If you have any ideas, suggestions, and have decided on what story your country will head on to, let us know. We want participants to be creative and expressive in their storylines. Think of this as a creative exercise and writing prompt. Creative liberties can and will be acceptable, however, please do keep it within realistic boundaries.

Roendavar’s involvement in the roleplay would be significant as the country will serve as a primary hub and headquarters for much of the organizations and cults due to a variety of reasons: (1) lax law enforcement, (2) sparse area and population, (3) religious significance, and (4) greater freedom of movement, communication, and access to equipment.

The general plotline that I will take is that the religious cults, in connection with a larger conspiracy, would seek to infiltrate Roendavar’s institutions and place themselves, covertly, in positions of power. They would do this through several means. One of them would involve the Mildew Agents, a variety of chemical weapons developed by the country, along with prominent war-scientists mostly Magarati, after the Imperial War in Operation Mildew. There are four of these agents in total, each of them will be significant in the storylines. A dispatch on the Mildew Agents and Operation Mildew will be released in a few days.

As per Roendavar’s cults, the Cricenexinos, Protacist cults, will come into play. How and why? The religious cults in Roendavar hold significant power in the countryside, as formal religious organizations and informal power contenders. If one wants to wield power, an organization for example, in Roendavar, they need the support of these religious cults, which in this case, they already have. You’ll get to know them throughout. For those who wish to know or use the Protacist cults, just reply to this with an affirmative and I’ll send a list.

If other countries would want to collaborate with me in this storyline, reply to the thread. I need countries where I can export my cultists and secret organizations too and also infiltrate your institutions over there.

I’ll probably write my story up to a slow burn. However, the general plotline is that the cults would make their move in eliminating enemies in certain sectors of Roendavarian society and replace them with their own. It would seem too “horror” at the start, but I assure you all will make sense at the end.

Will start posting IC soon.

Not entirely sure what I want to do with this, but still -
The island of Lovsk, which is under Oster occupation, can also fit some of your plans. It's cold and sparse, and in the next few months it's also going to gradually become a semi-warzone.

That would be a great setting to consider. Have the Cults capitalize on the chaos and try to install themselves in power by coercion and manipulation. Another player in the power-politics of your warzone. Could even have ties with Roendavar and Ainslie.

Mokov will absolutely take part in this, owing to its recent Ultranazi revolution. The new regime would most likely covertly support these cults in their destabilizing actions worldwide, as doing so would allow for the expansionist government of Mokov to capitalize on the chaos in the future.

Perfect. Perhaps you can have cults of your own with connections to the ones in Roendavar approach your government? Or would you have it rather that a Protacist cult be the one responsible for approaching your government? If the latter one is the case, I would suggest having the Cult of Valcrios, the God of Chaos, Malice, and Destruction, be the ones to approach you. I can provide you names if you wish.

Sounds good to me. The Vozhd's government will allow the cults to operate within Mokov, even if they don't follow the cult's teachings at all.

Yes, well the government doesn't really need to follow the religion. The Cults are more of religious organizations under a broader political organization/movement. They just serve as groups that wield significant power, like mercenearies, spies, etc. They just do it under the banner of Protacism.

How would you take or write this ICly?

Gday! So if you’re like me, you are on board with the whole monolith story occurring across the world at this point. Since Thromsa dared me to do something with monoliths IC and a good idea actually came about, here’s a potential storyline we could bring into the RP.

Here’s the rough idea I’ve got:
  1. Cultists start constructing monoliths across the isles, using them as shrines to their various figures they worship
  2. The media and governments start catching onto the existence of these structures and a craze begins around them with people beginning to try and search them out
  3. Fearing that the structures will be either removed or corrupted by the presence of non adherents to their beliefs, they begin to kill anyone who goes near it except for government authorities whom they don’t want to start a firefight with.
  4. As deaths increase and more people don’t come home governments plead with the people to not visit the monoliths and start to make arrangements to remove them - although they simply keep popping up
  5. The cultists aren’t blamed for it. Instead, there are multiple conspiracy theories centred around aliens or simply government testing involving these monoliths that a reasonable size of the public just don’t adhere to what the government says
  6. Eventually the monoliths just stop being built in obvious spots as governments begin to step up patrols

So, any ideas or comments? Anyone interested in building on this or joining in on it in the news thread or in this RP’s IC? Reply down below and we can start working things out

Cheers.

I have a perfect place for one in Ostehaar and in Lovsk.

Ainslie wrote:The media and governments start catching onto the existence of these structures and a craze begins around them with people beginning to try and search them out

That's true for the one in the mainland, but the one in Lovsk is going to be built inside a closed military zone. The main issue would be understanding how the hell a small group of cultists manages to construct it without being noticed at all...

Meanwhile, the Lovsk monolith - untouched by civilians - is investigated by the military. They discover a tunnel under it and realize it was built underground and pushed above. In a maze of tunnels they reach an underground temple. The cultists attempt to hunt down and kill those who have witnessed the temple, fearing they may lead others there. Some attempts look like "accidents" or "bad luck" and result in major injuries or death. Eventually the geologists and soldiers refuse to approach the place.

As the instigator of the idea I am certainly interested.

At least one could be built in Thromsa. Most likely on a mountain, near a trail or tourist site, so people actually notice it and go to the bloodshed. I'd probably prefer, at least for Thromsa, a more mysterious root at the start, rather than a full-on social media craze.

I will also incorporate these monoliths into my storyline. For Roendavar, our monolith would most likely be black glass, an object assosciated with Valcrios, the God of Chaos. We believe that there is another world beyond ours filled with malice, and it is through this black glass that followers could bring forth power for themselves.

Glad to see that more people are getting interested in this RP. I'd suggest you all start writing on IC posts now.

Wellsia is not a theocracy, but does have a state religion. My story line will revolve around four students who let curiosity get the best of them. The object of their investigation is an ancient cult with desire to gain control of the kingdom and empire. As the story unfolds, it will shake the very foundations of Wellsian society as many cultists will be prominent in government and business.

Got a couple plans in this RP too that aren't linked to anyone in particular yet, but could be in the future as they become extended and more developed.

1. There's the storyline where I get members of my doomsday cult deep into Roendavar to escape the Ahnslen police, the first of those posts just being published. There should be a couple more posts of that nature and I can't really see how anyone could be directly linked into them - however, the posts will allow for a link between a resurging trade in Buzz, a crystal methamphetamine which caused a big incident in Ainslie a few years ago, and the doomsday cults. Much of what is coming up in that storyline is just posts to allow for Buzz to be further exploited later this month both in Roendavar and further afield.

2. There'll be a storyline where a crazed cultist, amidst evacuation warnings due to a snowstorm, will smash a bunch of vehicles off the road and kill twenty people in the process. That's mainly just to stir up chaos and drama in Ainslie and cause a lot of anger which may or may not be directed at the doomsday cult (haven't decided if the driver gets caught yet). Mainly that'll just be a tragedy around Christmas time - nothing much further than that.

I've already written the lion's share of those mostly individual storylines so I'm keen if anyone's got ideas for the monolith one which is a lot more collaborative I'm keen to work on that with all of you.

Going to work on the first post of the Lovsk monolith. A reminder:

Ostehaar wrote:...the one in Lovsk is going to be built inside a closed military zone. The monolith - untouched by civilians - is investigated by the military. So now it's only going to be discovered in the middle of the zone. Further exploration next week. If any of you would like to join this, you could be the cultists, soldiers (there are Vancouvians in the base as well, if it helps), people who helped construct the object, people who take part in the murders...

I had a cult written and planned based on some eldrich aruian\varitheni being dedicated to some casted patron counter part to Ili Tiruno, who took part in creation there was a patron of destruction.
With the cult either being named brotherhood\disciple\movement of the forgotten.
the organization acts as a memorial organization to the public that focus on remembering and honoring the deceased or deads who were unidentified in death. but their activists have far more sinister activity.

I could see this in my nation where the cultists manage to convince alot of Galbarans that they serve (Whatever name I come up for the Estral god of chaos) and that with their blessing that they will be able to gain secession from Estra which could lead to a secessionist war in my nation. I can imagine quite a bit of kicking in doors and counter insurrection in addition to the religious implications of this in Estran society which is still polythiestic.

I wasn’t going to have a monolith in Ainslie, but after looking at existing ideas surrounding Ahnslen cults it made sense. So, the storyline I’ll likely run with deviates into two directions…

It all starts with a bunch of people finding the monolith and getting killed, which in turn catches the eye of detectives and causes the national park to close. Unbeknownst to the cults, the monolith is found and regular patrols are set up - cultists soon find out, ambush the ARSF patrols and then a firefight ensues. All the cultists get away except two who the ARSF have shot and later turn into custody. Police then do a stakeout and through learnings from the two people in custody they work out contacts and get warrants. However, some cultists were scared off to Roendavar already from the firefight where they will regroup with the assistance of the cults over there.

Meanwhile, police uncover that the cults have links to the Indenats, a party that is reasonably powerful in Arlanah. This attracts the interest of the Judicial Council who undertake an inquiry. From there, the party will get deregistered and those found guilty will get the book thrown at them. This prompts politically significant elections in Arlanah that could very well change the balance of power in the subdivision. Of course, all of this is spun by some as a hitjob by ACEGAD to solidify and consolidate power in Arlanah by removing the Indenats in the hope that votes get directed back to their party.

Meanwhile, the cultists who escaped to Roendavar have a pretty clean slate as far as ideas go. I’m happy to hear suggestions or potential collaboration points - maybe we could get Buzz involved at that point?

Go so now that i am back here is the ground idea for it.
The Varitheni-Aruian mythology tells of a god who is the counterpart in power to both Ili Tiruno and Loras and in being counterpart he was the domain of destruction and death, he was cast away by Loras to be forgotten for harboring destruction.
Mainly the cult as the name says follow the belief and his existence and try to bring destruction in his tribute, outside to the public they seem like a movement that is focused on helping with final rights and wakes, remembering forgotten deads who are not visited in cemeteries and commemorate fallen unknown and forgotten victims of death from tragedy or war.

The first event would be that a foreign, visitor went to visit a war memorial and got too close to a monolith and found his demise by it. His body was found close by mangled and mutilated with markings, potentially ancient davari markings correlate with arcane. The idea is to tie to reserafce of the Aruian troubles once again in some form

That sounds good. You can focus on the dealings of the cult as that may become significant in the future. The secessionist war sounds like something to look forward to in the future and this could be a good way to shed a light on one of the factors that is accelerating that, which are the religious cults stirring up trouble for their benefit. I would love to read your work.

I had a cult written and planned based on some eldrich aruian\varitheni being dedicated to some casted patron counter part to Ili Tiruno, who took part in creation there was a patron of destruction.
With the cult either being named brotherhood\disciple\movement of the forgotten.
the organization acts as a memorial organization to the public that focus on remembering and honoring the deceased or deads who were unidentified in death. but their activists have far more sinister activity.

leaving it here as a reminder to myself. :)

Already going for a violent happening off the bat? Love it. Ili Tiruno is your deity of creation, correct? Would love to see the dynamic from a different religion altogether and how that would fit in the RP.
