And the polls are open! Over the next 63 hours votes will be counted for the Ibican General Election of 2020. On the ballot this time around are:

This page will be updated regularly as the vote rolls in. And we will be taking questions from those that are curious, or your predictions. The consensus prediction is that Conservatives will hold on to a narrow lead across the board at the federal level. But we will see if that prediction holds up. Political Correspondent Mark Rollins will be here to answer viewer questions over the weekend. Individual contests will be detailed below.

Races to watch

Presidential
All experts are predicting a close race, with a potential to end the domination of Ibican politics of the Conservative Party. Strong coattails effect likely.

Petra Governor
Petra has long been a Conservative bastion, but polling suggests that Progressives may have a slight lead over the incumbent Conservative Governor, Emory Henderson.

House of Representatives
Several suburban House districts are expected to flip from conservative to progressive during this election. One of the major examples of that is the Interstate 5 corridor through Panamor. The suburbs between Boston and Franklin have long been Conservative strongholds, but recent polls have shown that that lead is not so secure. Calahan's 8th, including some Cuyoga suburbs and the state's tourist hot spot of Park City are also expected to flip. Also included are 3 suburban districts outside St Clarke, Albion, and Rhone, West Monroe, as well of the new state of Romane's 1st District.

Platforms
Conservatives
Ideology: Conservatism, Economic Liberalism, Social Conservatism
Pro: Abortion restrictions, immigration restrictions, death penalty, interventionist foreign policy, Drug laws
Anti: Gun control, increasing federal minimum wage, reduction in military power

Progressives
Ideology: Social Liberalism, Progressivism
Pro: Campaign finance reform, universal healthcare, gun control
Anti: Abortion restrictions, immigration restrictions, death penalty

Todd Hunter (C) - West Monroe
VP Charles Cane - Ochoa
V.
Ronny Tanner (P) - Albion
VP Jennifer Wright - Haviland

Todd Hunter a congressman from West Monroe's 15th District, leaving the house. Hunter won the primaries on the promise of rebuilding the party's reputation after what is largely considered a failed tenure under the leadership of current President Evaline Buckley within the party. Hunter is a West Monroe native, raised in Rhone's northern suburbs. Todd received a bachelors in political science from West Monroe State University and then went on to Willmington University School of Law. He was an associate lawyer at a firm managed by a relative before he joined the West Monroe State House of Representatives and began his career in politics.

With early, mail in, through Saturday's vote totals reported, Conservative Todd Hunter is now leading Progressive Ronny Tanner, with a margin of 19,000 votes so far.

*Editor's note, although the territories of Edward Island and Haviland are shown as leaning Progressive on this map, their general election only contains a plecibite for President, votes from citizens living in territories do not count into the final vote for President.

6 states have senate seats up for election this year, with Romane having two since this is the first general election since it gained statehood January 1st. The other states are Albion, Angola, Calahan, East Monroe, and Ochoa.
Image

All 235 seats of the House of Representatives are up for election, as they are every 2 years. An additional 3 seats are also up for vote to give new state Romane a congressional delegation. The two populated territories are also voting on their non-voting representatives to the House this year. Surprisingly, the Progressive Party has taken an early lead in Edward Island over the single-issue Sovereignty Party, which largely exists just to advocate for statehood of the territories.

5 State governor positions are on the ballot this year. 4 of them are going as predicted, with 3 looking to be good bets for reelection, with the successor to retiring Panamor Governor Alejandro Padilla in the lead there. The only surprise so far is in the state of Petra, where the Progressive challenger has taken an early lead.

We assume this is for the Presidential candidates. Progressive candidate Tanner has said in speeches he plans to play down Ibica's foreign military involvement, increase the scope of the already existing state-run medical insurance programs through federal grants, and stricter regulation of private ownership of firearms at the federal level. Conservative Hunter largely proposes maintaining the foreign and domestic policies of his predecessor, current President Evaline Buckley, including increasing Ibica's international presence. One noted difference he has proposed, is supporting the statehood proposals for Ibica's two current populated territories of Edward Island and Haviland.

The Conservative Party currently maintains the Presidency, and a majority of Senate seats, House seats, state legislative seats, and state governorships.

The Primary opposition party is the Progressive Party, who control the governorships and legislatures of 3 states, and the mayorships and councils of most large cities. This is largely an urban/rural and suburban divide.

Minor parties include the Sovereignty Party, which largely just advocates for the statehood of territories, and dominates federal politics in both. Another is the Green Party, which has endorsed the Progressive candidate, and the Libertarian Party, which did not receive enough support to be on the ballot in 7 states. (Out of 11)

The Progressive Candidate has advocated for increase in the federal minimum wage, while the Conservative candidate, and party as a whole, has advocated for minimum wage laws to be under the purview of the states and territories.

7pm Update

With early vote and mail in totals in from each state, Progressive candidate Ronny Tanner has taken an early lead of 249,394 votes. Surprisingly, that lead also includes the State of Cartier, where he has a lead of 12,405 votes.

OOC: We've been over this. It is the current year in Ibica. Zanicovia Nova will not be formed for 29 years. You don't exist yet. This is the 2020 general election.

Hunter's team has said that they believe the actions taken by the state and federal governments should be sufficient to mitigate Ibica's footprint, and believes more should be done to help developing countries, rather than focusing domestically.

Tanner has advocated for increased federal regulations on interstate industries, especially raw resource extraction. He has also suggested proposing some form of federal emissions tax on industries.

Friday's votes have been counted and added to totals. Tanner's lead over Hunter shrinks to less than 12,000 votes. Petra trends blue for first time in 20 years. Panamor splits vote, conservatives lead in presidential contest, while progressives lead gubernatorial contest.

Saturday's votes have been counted and added to totals. Panamor flips back blue, with progressives having a 100 vote lead. Leads draw wider in most states. Hunter leads Tanner by 19,000 votes. In person votes tomorrow expected to favor Hunter. Only 12 hours until the last votes come in.

Polls are now closed in Cartier and Albion, and they are counting finally results. Polls in mainland Angola close at 8:30, and Brickhaven Island at 9. Polls also close in East Monroe at 9.

Romane has certified their final votes. Their non voting Commissioner Norene Queen (P) has been elected to represent the 1st District, Zechariah Fosse (C) to represent the 2nd District, and Isiah Welch (C) to represent the 3rd District. They have elected 2 Conservatives to represent them in the Senate, Malcolm Cross and Wesley Thompson. This is Romane's first ever voting Congressional Delegation.

OOC: I'm aware, but this is an IC thread, and that is irrelevant here.
