The VALV-A is the attack variant of the normal VALV. Most VALVs can be equipped with things like AGLs, MG's, rotary cannons, missiles, and rockets from the doors, but the VALV-A went all out and strapped as many 40mm AGLs, 30mm anti-armour chainguns, 7.62 rotary guns, Inferno and ATLAS anti-tank missiles, unguided anti-armor rockets, and armor that the engines would allow, and on top of all that it's a VTOL gunship that can hover in place or circle a location for extended periods of time. It can wipe an entire company out if you use it well enough, and if you can get several you could probably take on thousands of troops at a time with little to no risk of danger. It's practically invincible to anti-aircraft guns, and it can evade and/or jam and/or hard kill SAMs. The VALV-A can also be used to shred lightly and medium armored ships to gibs, if you can make it within the anti-air perimeter, which is pretty easy if you have anti-ship missiles and know where to aim; SoMac uses anti-ship missiles liberally, so this was never a problem.
In case you're wondering, there's the VALV-T (transport) C (cargo) A (attack) AS (anti ship/submarine) E (electronic warfare) S (stealth) and a few niche others. Those are the main ones.

So it's the result of a three-way between a Warthog,, a V-22, and an AC-130? I'll take your entire stock.

Socialist Macronesia wrote:Nope. It's bigger than a single fighter jet, but smaller than an AC-130. That's a single rotary gun, eight missiles, 32 rockets, and no more from the looks of things. The VALV has those, probably 2x or 4x the missiles, 4x, 6x, 8x the rockets, throw two more chainguns in, and a couple 40mm AGLs/ 7.62 miniguns mounted from the doors. That's the VALV-A.
You think it would weigh a lot, but after you start firing the weight drains off quite a bit.
It took the best parts: the A-10s survivability, the V-22s CTOL and VTOL capabilities, and the AC-130's loitering ability and sheer firepower. And it's fucking glorious.

Yeah, it would; warheads weigh quite a bit. And you're right, the comparison I drew is only superficial; iirc the VTOL VR dev said that aircraft was explicitly meant to be an A-10-sized CAS VTOL.It took the best parts: the A-10s survivability, the V-22s CTOL and VTOL capabilities, and the AC-130's loitering ability and sheer firepower. And it's fucking glorious.

For reference, it's internal cargo bay was designed to hold a Commissioner APC, which makes it at least bigger than a V-22. And it can mount heavier stuff via sling load. Of course, there's also the as-of-yet-unnamed attack helicopter, which is VALV but smoler... and a helicopter.
2. Except it's more like a cacophony of guns, missiles, rockets, and cannons. It's probably actually more terrifying than the BRRTTT, because it doesn't have to make strafe runs, it can keep stuff coming at you as long as it needs to.
This is just Ari and Ross in SoMac.
