Welcome to Achaean Republic!

Hello everyone and welcome back to the World Hit Festival - it's time for the 54th edition of the World Hit Festival and this time we have the honour of going to La Cañada in Achaean Republic. This is because of the nation's win at the 53rd World Hit Festival which was hosted in Bovingdon, Britonisea. The Intermissión with their song, "Quédate" won the Festival in style with 50 points! Congratulations to them and we cannot wait for the broadcasters responsible for hosting the 54th World Hit Festival to put on a fantastic show.

I am happy to announce that the Junior World Hit Festival 8 will go ahead soon! Bidding for the JWHF8 will begin on the 27th September 2020 and we will know our host by the 1st November. The Junior World Hit Festival 8 will be the final World Hit Festival event of the year, with it being hosted on the 20th of December and so it will be a real celebration of the heights of the Festival this year.

Moreover, it's confirmed that WHF56 will be Orchestral Themed as it was at the 46th World Hit Festival, which means the winner next edition will get first dibs on hosting that.

I cannot wait to see you all in Achaean Republic for what is expected to be a fantastic and vibrant show!

What is the World Hit Festival?
The World Hit Festival (WHF) is a multiversal song competition. Each nation shall enter 1 song and 1 artist, and it shall be 'performed' via roleplay. Most nations tend to use a real-life tune as a musical backing, but every entry submitted to the World Hit Festival is required to have original lyrics (ie. if you submit a tune, you must re-write the lyrics), so this does mean that instrumental entries are blocked from entering the contest.

WHF operates with three threads, the OOC, Draft, and IC threads. The one you are seeing now is the OOC/Sign-ups thread, the main place for you to discuss the contest, reveal your entrant, etc. All OOC chatter goes here. The Draft Thread, opened by the host, is the second thread opened up during a WHF contest, and this draft thread is where nations will post and work on their entries until a deadline determined by the host. The IC thread, also opened by the host is the third and final thread attached to a WHF, and it is where the host will transfer your entries.

The World Hit Festival has had a very long history in NationStates, and a thread by the second overseer (Euskirribakondara) has been created to compile this long history. Rules and Procedures

Contest

1. A nation is allowed to submit 2 puppets maximum to the contest, meaning that a user can be controlled at most 3 nations in the contest.
2. Nations must send a full ranking of all nations on the IC Thread to the host of the competition when the voting opens.
3. The nation ranked first will receive 5 points, the nation ranked second will receive 4 points etc. Nations ranked 6th or below will not receive any points.
4. Users are allowed to receive 8 points maximum from their puppets. Meaning, a user with three nations can use Nation B and C (with B and C giving 4 points each) to give Nation A 8 points total, but nothing more.
5. If there is a draw the countback system goes as follows: Amount of nations - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 - 6th places, 7th places etc.
6. A nation is also expected to send their full ranking to the Host. The host will make up your votes in the event that they do not have your votes. Nations are expected not to reveal whether they have voted or not. Only the Host (and the Overseer if needs be) should know who has voted and who hasn't.
7. All or at least most of the written lyrics must be original. Should any user spot any concerns, don't hesitate to let the overseer or current host know.
8. In order for Semi Finals to be initiated, there must be enough nations for there to be 13 nations per Semi Final. The number of participants before Semi Finals are initiated will be dependent on circumstances.
9. The maximum amount of nations that can participate without more than one automatic qualifier (ie the host) is 18 nations per Semi-Final. Once this number has been broken, the top 6 (including the host) will automatically qualify to reduce 18 nations to 15 in each Semi.^*1
10. The host is within their rights to question whether an entry is good enough to be transferred/puts the Festival into disrepute.

Hosting

1. The winner of the competition will automatically be given the right to host the competition. The winner will have 72 hours (maximum) to announce their interest in hosting the Festival to the Overseer.
2. The host must not reveal their acceptance of hosting until the Overseer has announced it on the WHF Network.
3. If within the first 72 hours, the host either doesn't announce their interest in hosting the proceeding contest or declines hosting rights, the nation who came 2nd will be asked. If declined five times, the World Hit Overseer has to host the World Hit Festival.
4. If the host abandons their host duties, the World Hit Overseer will be responsible for what left needs to be done.
5. We would like to ensure all World Hit Festival hosts can host the competition to the best of their ability. If you have any concerns about hosting if given the opportunity to, don't hesitate to speak to the World Hit Overseer.

¹ This rule was clarified here, you can find what it read before the Draft Thread opened. Essentially if there are 36 entries on the Draft Thread (not including the host), regardless of whether the host has posted, this will be the highest amount for Semis without more than one qualifier. If one more non-host nation posts, then the top 6 will be offered a spot in the final - though they don't have to take this offer if they don't want to. Though if everyone accepts this invitations, this will leave 30 nations to go through the Semi-Final process.

In the Official Host Welcome Package you will find details regarding the host city of La Cañada and how this ties in to the mission of quality entertainment for both AS1 and TVS.

Here are the most important points that must be summarized, which may guide your RP during this festival:

¡Bienvenidos a La Cañada!

With over 135,000 residents, La Cañada is the second-largest city in the State of Corola after the City of Corola proper (Ciudad de Corola). Best known as La Ciudad de las Cuevas (“The City of Caves”), the city is home to the world-famous La Cañada Caves National Park, a natural limestone cave that also serves as part of the Greater Corola Acquifer, a natural water system that flows to the Guadalupana River and into the Caribbean Sea, providing potable water to over 40% of the Achaean population.

Named after the Old Spanish word for canyon or ridge in 1735, La Cañada has served a pivotal role in Achaean history, such as the 1796 independence battle that led the independence movement to control Corola, and the 1863 battle that turned the Federalist tide of the Achaean Civil War and guaranteed the freedom of all former slaves. In addition, its famed Southern Caribbean Creole structures date back from the time the Corola aristocracy would buy summer houses in La Cañada due to its slightly cooler climate; thus, these structures remained and have been faithfully integrated to modern times, serving as hostels, bars, restaurants, places of worship, museums, private residence, government buildings, and more.

Hosts

1. Vania Fernández: Native cañadiense and a former Miss Acaya contestant turned entertainment reporter and newscaster, Vania Fernández has graced TVS screens for 20 years through her long-running late night show, Vania de Noche.
2. Nadine Tanóus: Of Syrian-Lebanese descent, Nadine Tanóus competed in the 48th World Hit Festival in St. Christopher, Llanta, with her song, Almalayika. She is also an entrepreneur and philanthropist for the Arab-Achaean community.
3. Adriana Marie Rivera: Best known as MariKary on YouTube, cañadiense Adriana Rivera is one of Achaea’s best-known fashion and beauty influencers, launching a makeup and clothing brand valued at $15 million. She will be this edition’s Green Room and Internet host.

Live Allocation Draw

The Live Allocation Draw will take place on the grounds of the Antiguo Casino de La Cañada, a former mansion built between 1860 and 1863 in the heart of the city. Drawing from Neoclassical and Caribbean Creole styles, the Casino served as the residence of the Fraticelli family for more than 80 years and was a popular meeting place for La Cañada’s aristocracy. In 1956, the descendants of the Fraticelli family sold the mansion to the municipality, who renovated the space and converted it into a convention and reception center for the city’s residents. All three hosts will conduct the draw’s proceedings.

Host Venue

The Palacio de los Deportes Francisco Calderón (Francisco Calderón Sports Palace) was built in 1997 and renovated in 2015, named in honor of local boxing prodigy Francisco Calderón Casanes. With a maximum capacity for 8,000 spectators, the arena is La Cañada’s prime sports and entertainment venue, hosting the Caribes de La Cañada basketball team as well as national and international entertainers such as the Harlem Globetrotters, Chayanne, Shakira, Dia Lika and more. For the 54th World Hit Festival, the capacity will be reduced to 4,000 to comply with safety measure and social distancing guidelines excepted by the State of Corola.

The Stage

Designed by Corola architectural firm Bartoli & Casablanca, the stage features a geographical depiction of the Caves of La Cañada and its largest entrance, the Cueva del Pentágono (Pentagon Cave), an opening said to closely resemble a pentagon. Whilst a smaller stage design than previous ones showcase at the World Hit Festival, its cavalcade of world-class acoustic design, abstract LED screens on both background and floor and a flurry of multi-color lighting and other features such as fire, mist and smoke, holograms, water, underground and discreet overhead wind machines, and more to enhance your country’s presentation!

Postcards

Sponsored by the Achaean Republic Department of Tourism and Atlas Obscura, this year’s postcards follow the concept of music and mystery by having the contestants travel within various offbeat and esoteric spots in the Achaean Republic and expressing their impressions of life, music and mystery in their own hand.

1. Each country will pick from a set number, which will reveal a location where they will film the postcard.
2. Every user will submit a short paragraph in the country’s national language(s), where they will explain in the singer’s words what does Music and Mystery mean to them personally, alongside a translation in English. In Character, this postcard format will be similar to the one featured on the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest.
3. While we strongly prefer that each nation uses their official/native language(s) for the postcard, sending the writer’s paragraph in English is also accepted.

Hello! Below, I am going to briefly discuss what is going to be happening regarding the 8th Junior World Hit Festival. Editions of the Junior World Hit Festival usually happen five editions at a time. The last Junior World Hit Festival was held after the 50th World Hit Festival sometime in April and so with the 55th World Hit Festival fast approaching, it is time to announce what is going to happen with the upcoming Junior World Hit Festival. The host of the Junior World Hit Festival will replace Achaean Republic on the World Hit Festival Board after they host until the next Junior World Hit Festival.

Similarly to the 7th Junior World Hit Festival, the bidding process for the 8th Junior World Hit Festival will happen on The World Hit Network, with examples of previous bids being on the first page. The 8th Junior World Hit Festival's OOC thread will go up to a day after the Draft Thread for the 50th World Hit Festival closes and will last until 20th December 2020; where the winner will be announced. The dates of the Junior World Hit Festival and the 55th/56th World Hit Festival have been designed so that it doesn't clash with WV too much. The 8th Junior World Hit Festival will be the last WHF event of 2020 and it's around Christmas/New Years time so perhaps keep that in mind when going for a theme!

NEWS REGARDING THE 56TH WORLD HIT FESTIVAL

It has been confirmed that the 56th World Hit Festival will again be an Orchestra Edition. This will be the second time that the Orchestra Edition has been done after the first one which was held in Izmedu at the 46th edition. As with that edition, your song doesn't have to be full orchestral, composed by your nation's philharmonic orchestra - it can still be a pop song, but it has to have strong orchestral elements. We will be using the same system as the 46th World Hit Festival to vett who's song is accepted and who's isn't. You can find the rules of Orchestral songs on that thread I posted.

Moreover, it will mean that the winner of the 55th World Hit Festival should accommodate for a full orchestra in their plans. It's not much you have to change, just make sure there's an orchestra pit!

For this edition, RTI has elected to utilize VodiFest (in full: Festival Zabavne Glazbe Vodiznad) as a national selection for the second time in Izmedu's history as a WHF participant. VodiFest is primarily known as one of Izmedu's longest running and most prestigious music shows, doing triple duty as a music contest, music festival, and as an awards show to commemorate the achievements of Izmeduan artists and the larger music industry that represents them. Indeed, the contest is considered the symbolic origin point of Izmeduan music, with many of Izmedu's most legendary names and beloved stars either finding their beginnings here or becoming famous precisely because of a VodiFest win. Due to the contest's nature as a domestic phenomenon, it is rare for VodiFest to be connected to international song contests such as the World Hit Festival and indeed, many of its participants are primarily older stars or those that work within more traditional and out-of-the-way sounds versus other Izmeduan music shows. Regardless, the decision was made to use the festival as a way to directly select the Izmeduan entry for the upcoming 54th World Hit Festival.

Italy's Sanremo Music Festival and Croatia's Splitski Festival serve as the models for this national final. Thus, all songs are accompanied by an orchestra and are traditionally sung in Izmeduan. For the 70th edition of the festival, 12 songs competed for the grand prize of being the VodiFest champion over a process of five nights of constant singing. After four nights, 12 songs were whittled down to a superfinal of 3 songs, of which one could well be going to the Achaean Republic. RTI, in conjunction with the VodiFest steering committee, now asks international juries to join them on the final night of VodiFest 70 to help judge the songs and decide which song is worthy of being the next Izmeduan entrant.

Well! That's an interesting question you've asked us. Hey, Sivartti, what do you think? Yeah... mmhmm... definitely, I agree. So music is really not a mystery in itself, if you look at it as a series of chords, of notes in a melody. However music can impart an aura of mystery, giving the mundane something truly unusual, and music that is intrinsically heartfelt and good comes from the depths of the heart and soul, so in that way it comes from a place that you can't scientifically prove where the inspiration comes from. I have to personally add on, I don't know if Sivartti shares this outlook or not, but I believe that music that has been blessed by the gods is truly something otherworldly! Hymns, songs of praise, songs of nature's music, all share this divine energy that no other song can match. We as mortal artists can only attempt to measure up to such greatness, and it is truly humbling to realize and appreciate this truth.
