108th Kyundaoan Senatorial session (MT, Closed)

Postby Kyundao » Mon Aug 10, 2020 5:24 pm

Rules:

Modern tech only
No warfare
No terrorism

Story:

It is 2018 YK (Year of Kyundao) and the ruling Capitalist Party's 108th annual Kyundaoan Senatorial session is about to kick off. It has been three years since the election of Chairman Sung, Kyundao's paramount leader and the one who will preside over the session. This time however, he has decided to do something different in his career: he has invited world leaders - except for Kenmorian political figures due to poor diplomatic relations - to observe the annual session. He wasn't the first one to do this though; a few of his predecessors, including Chairman Yeshayahu, did this at one point as well.

The 108th Kyundaoan Senatorial session will cover an agenda containing the following:

1. The construction of a new capital.
2. The slight revision of already draconian anti-drug laws.
3. The construction of new re-education camps.
4. The further deregulation of the economy.
5. The creation of new branches of the nation's military.
6. The construction of new guided-missile battleships.
7. The implementation of an orbital weapons program.
8. The construction of more nuclear weapons.
9. The spread of the capitalist revolution in socialist countries.

Preparations for the upcoming Senatorial session were being made in the Senate building at a decent pace, not too fast nor slow. The interior was quite a magnificent sight to behold: the white Kyundaoan rose on the giant blue lamp that lit the Senate chamber with a colorless light, rows upon rows of seats - around 1,000 - for the senators on one side, a long table on an elevated platform for the highest-ranking members of the Capitalist Party on the other, the Kyundaoan flag raised behind it and between the two sides a stand for the Saber of Authority to rest on during any annual session. The Senate chamber was a massive part of the Senate building and the most well known.

Government workers, each carrying a gun as citizens are required by the constitution to own and carry at least one, had no intention of complaining throughout. As long as they were paid a couple million won for the job, they didn't care.

Meanwhile the scheduled public executions for three infamous figures - a Populistani governor who was starving his own people to death, a Kenmorian terrorist named Harry Goebbels and a captured neo-Nazi rebel leader - were temporarily delayed until the Senatorial session was over.

While preparations are being made in the Senate chamber, the Organization Committee gathers around a circular table. It was a rather large table in the middle of a much larger room, a functional center piece in every sense. After discussing current world events, they decided to add onto the already lengthy annual agenda.

Committee head: All in favor of including the spread of the capitalist revolution in socialist countries?

Organization Committee: Aye.

The vote was unanimous. The new addition was promptly written down on the annual agenda.

Given your country is capitalist, neoliberal or not, you won't have to worry about capitalist revolutionaries. Our plan regarding them is to help them overthrow only socialist governments i.e. reactionaries in order to spread and maintain the capitalist revolution.

On the other side of the capital city was a parade jointly organized by various capitalist revolutionary groups headquartered in Kyundao. All of these groups were backed by the ruling Capitalist Party. Flags representing the capitalist revolutionaries' many countries of origin were waved as the parade marched on. Towering above them was a massive version of the Kyundaoan flag.

Ahead of the flags were of course capitalist revolutionaries, ones who were carrying Militia Battle Combat Rifles smuggled out of Holy Marsh by sympathizers, each BCR having an X marked over the crosses. Behind these revolutionaries were more revolutionaries, this time carrying different guns. There were also revolutionaries playing a drum and fife.

As the parade played out in front of thousands, the majority of the crowd cheered them on as did the Senators who attended.

It was around 11:00 PM and one of the Senators who attended the parade from earlier sat down in his home and turned the TV on to watch the news. The news story however was something he didn't expect.

International media had reported that a labor camp in the parts of Kongsi that were still under socialist control was struck by artillery, with several guards killed in the attack. According to the international media, a capitalist revolutionary group calling themselves the Popular Kongsi Capitalist Army (PKCA) had claimed responsibility for the attack. Unlike most capitalist revolutionary groups, they have no connections to Kyundao in any form. To combine insult with another injury, they had sent to what was left of Kongsi's socialist government a video of a Kongsi soldier's decapitation. The video wasn't played on air, but the news reported that the Kongsi soldier's head was sawed off.

"We didn't even do anything over there other than investigate some other war," the Senator thought to himself.

Dear Senate of Kyundao,
We share a similar concern as Madam Simmons. Our Most Serene Eco-Republic is a Social Democracy, meaning we practice regulated capitalism but with some very moderately socialist policies, such as universal healthcare, welfare, social security, and nationalization of the energy sector. We employ what is known as “Rhine capitalism” or a “social market economy”, which is essentially normal market capitalism except with higher regulations often, as well as a good amount of state-owned companies and also community-owned co-ops as well. There are, however, several neoliberal parties, such as the Conservative People’s Party and most members of the Centrist Union, as well as some parties that are in between neoliberal and social democratic, such as the Liberal Party or Pax Unio.

We are deeply pacifist, and our most recent war was in the fifties and sixties (although we have led military interventions in Maxtopia and other nations to protect human rights, and we aided the Resistance in Gandenia). We really do not want to go to war, and we wish for you to promise not to fund any revolutionary groups in our glorious nation.

Thank you,
elected King Solomon of Middle Barael

Speaker of Parliament Carrie Bat-Ijlana Çospeaos

Han il-Sung,

Thank you, we simply wanted to make sure, as we have many, many state owned companies (though few industries are fully nationalized, as we still allow and encourage private companies alongside state-owned ones), and we also have some moderately socialist policies.

Thank you for your understanding

On the following day, Senators began gathering in the Senate Chamber. It was 12:00 at noon and camera crews for news networks from around the world arrived as well. The day of the 108th Senatorial Session had come.

The Senate Chamber was packed as always. Kyundao did have a long-established republican tradition after all.

Cameras start recording. Senators take their seats. The massive room went quiet. The President of the Senate, Han il-Sung, walked in with the Vice President and Deputy Vice President. The President made the announcement:

"Senate of Kyundao, the Executive Committee."

Chairman Sung and the Executive Committee walked onto the stage and promptly took their seats. The Saber of Authority was placed on its stand, commencing the Senatorial Session.

With the 108th Senatorial Session now underway, the world leaders who were there as observers listened as the beginning speech was being delivered by Chairman Sung himself. His voice was neither deep nor high and sounded younger than his age, but it was powerful and authoritative nonetheless. By the time the beginning speech wrapped up, the Senate Chamber erupted in thunderous applause.

Next was the main event: the annual agenda. The first day of any Senatorial Session revolved around one. The world leaders waited in anticipation.

Kenmoria is an illiberal yet democratic nation pursuing the goals of communism in a semi-effective fashion. As soon as the Senate got to the annual agenda, members of the Executive Committee began their speeches. One by one, they made their case. Then the Senators submitted their votes. The final results were as follows:

1. The construction of a new capital: 899 for, 1 abstention, 100 against.

2. The slight revision of already draconian anti-drug laws: 91 for, 8 abstentions, 901 against.

3. The construction of new re-education camps: 880 for, 19 abstentions, 101 against.

4. The further deregulation of the economy: 910 for, 10 abstentions, 80 against.

5. The creation of new branches of the nation's military: 700 for, 49 abstentions, 151 against.

6. The construction of new guided-missile battleships: 899 for, 2 abstentions, 99 against.

7. The implementation of an orbital weapons program: 853 for, 7 abstentions, 140 against.

8. The construction of more nuclear weapons: 802 for, 90 abstentions, 108 against.

9. The spread of the capitalist revolution in socialist countries: 890 for, 11 abstentions, 99 against.

All but the second part of the annual agenda were passed by an absolute majority.

The second day of the 108th Senatorial Session was no different than most sessions compared to the first day. Senators presented their legislation and voted on said legislation, as they had been doing even before the Summer Revolution that overthrew the leftist government 110 years ago. Some bills were passed, some were voted down; business as usual.

It didn't take long for the second day to wrap up. The 108th Senatorial Session was effectively over by this point. Before the delayed executions could continue, the world leaders who attended the Senatorial Session had a tour to go on.
