Okay, where to start?
I'm Ida. 26 Springs, 1.93 meters tall, a Teressian woman from a good house, raised in the Free Lands. My blonde hair was bound into a braid, which hung down my back, my grey-blue eyes shining as I surveyed the surroundings. True to Teressian Form, I wore Tracht, the traditional costume of my people, with the apron's knot on the right - those, who knew this subtle language knew, that this meant, that I was not a single anymore, had a boyfriend.
His name was Berengar.
I met him during a ball last year, by coincidence, and we hit off well.
The man, who I had arms linked with, was not Berengar.
He was Adalrich von Ehrenback, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Teressien and my Dad's boss - and, the Gods willing, mine, too. He was actually married to Oda von Ehrenback, a woman I knew as Tante Oda, but Tante Oda had broken her ankle a week ago. She would survive, but she could not participate in any balls any time soon.
So, Onkel Adalrich had asked around, if anyone had interest in attending the Winter Ball with him, a tall, sixty year old and very serious man, who was dressed in a dark Drachtenanzug, the male traditional costume. Since I had recently graduated in Philosophy at the UoF and since I waited for my course in being a diplomat to begin, I had volunteered and here I was, linked to him and expected to dance at least one dance.
And despite calling them aunt and uncle, I was not related to either of them.
I knew them since I was a child.
I did not know the third person in our group for nearly as long: Baronin Wilrun von Port Monee, a beautiful, blonde woman with blue eyes, who wore a red dress with an open back and very long gloves, was a Baroness of Teressien, and despite being the ruler of a rather small territory, she was a powerful woman. And she had a liking for what was known as Soireediplomatie, diplomacy done at evening gatherings, and was generally a social butterfly.
Albeit a few minutes late from the start, we were still fashionably late and not simply late, and with Adalrich in the middle, my arm linked to his loosely, and Wilrun to my far side, we entered.

Berengar

"I see. And you too-"
I was about to finish my response, but then I saw her. Lady Findehoof, in a lovely dirndl-or, at least, something close enough to one.
We had met a few months earlier, the previous year, at a ball, and to say she knocked me off my feet was...an understatement of the highest degree. An active correspondence between ourselves had kept the spark alive for months, and now...
...I was having the weirdest cocktail of emotions in my life. Fear, anxiety, embarrassment, joy...maybe even love. Maybe. It was hard to tell how much was genuine love and how much was just an immature crush, a leftover of my schoolboy days...But regardless...

"Apologies-" I said, turning back to Sirin. "An old friend of mine just arrived."
With that, I mustered my courage and began approaching Ida and company. Once within range, I would bow and greet them with a bow of my head, as well as doffing my hat and holding it to my chest.

All while sweating profusely and hoping I didn't just make a faux-paus.

"Yeah, an'?" Erika replied. "Would be weird to be seen with a stepcousin, I'd say. And he's waiting on someone else who just arrived, I think or will arrive soon."

IC name is "Blauveldt-Ryszana".

A traumatized, but recovering, MT-Early PMT/FanT constitutional monarchy consisting of a personal and constitutional union of two Realms. Features: near-universal gun ownership, governmental dysfunction, terrified Christinaslander Air National Guard personnel counting down the days until they rotate back home, and an eternal standoff with the last of it's former oppressors.

"Well, glad to know we all had lively kids, replies Regis to Esperanta and Allison. Although Miss Sanchez, pardon my surprise, but in the Empire we're not used to have children starting career studies that early. Nor in Japan where we live. But you're right, being there for your kids is a key factor of being a good parent. I wonder myself whe my nephew will have a little bugger, adds the Prince with a small chuckle.

Adrean and Anna Blachkor
The Emperor and Empress can't help but chuckle at Marcella's constant teasing about her sister. They are so cute together, thinks the Imperial Couple.
However, before they can continue the conversation, they are interrupted by a woman who they recognize as one of Empres Ortifne's sisters.
"We shall do that then, have a good evening Duchess, says Adrean to Marcella as she is dragged away.
-Who do you think she's going to see? asks the Empress with a raised eyebrow.
-Aurelia most likely, remember she's here as well, replies the Emperor, before turning back to Gisella. Anyway Princess, he continues as he leans closer, speaking in a hushed tone, since you have experience with your nations religious beliefs, I would like to ask you about something a bit special. To put it lightly, my wife ans I, aside from being monarchs, are also involved in... shaddy operations so to speak, to protect the Empire. During these,I committed what some people may deem cruel deeds. I would like to know how it would be considered in your religion. Do doing bad deeds myself, even for the security of my country, makes me something akin to a Witch? Or is it something that can be considered forgivable by Madoka's light?"
As he asks that, Anna has gotten away for a minute, soon coming back with three chairs, offering one for Gisella to sit on.

New Visayan Islands wrote:"I understand the surprise," Allison said. "The education reforms of 1995, often referred to as the Ramos-Sy reforms, saw drastic changes to how secondary education was carried out in the Confederation. For starters, we shifted from a K-10 to a K-12 curriculum, with high school split into two grades: Junior High School, which spans Grades 7 to 10; and Senior High School, which covers Grades 11 and 12. I had barely missed out on the reforms--High School '95 under the old system, which made me part of the last batch of the pre-reform year.
"Pity I couldn't come with other Visayan dignitaries; at the time the Confederation received the invite, we were still facing the quarantine." Allison added. Turning to Esperanta, she continued: "Providence does provide, if I may say so. To think that your desire not to leave your family for a stint at the National Assembly ultimately led you to becoming Governor-General." Here Allison smiled.

Esperanta Putino

"Huh" She nodded along listening to every word. "I've always found Education a difficult subject only because unlike many things one-size-fits-all usually doesn't work. So I'm always exploring different ideas to see the best ways to keep improving our system. Granted we're held to Imperial-Royal Standards but Domains get a little leeway in flexing needs of curriculum, operations and other topics that go into a functioning school. Never did imagine a drastic split but if it works, it works!"

Gisella Villa

Watching with her wide eyes as her sister sort of got spirited away by Carpathia, Gisella shook it off and returned her attention to the Blachkor. They brought up a very interesting question about how dark can one's soul be before it becomes irreparable. "That's a tough one....Well the truth is we don't have a real consensus about salvation or damnation like many of the more Abrahamic religions do. That said talking with my own mentors and our High Priestess over the years if I might make an educated guess here is that doing bad deeds is well it is bad but it's always about how much light do you balance. It's as mentioned earlier, our ancestor Tamura the Great she was known to be a bit of a wicked ruler, rather iron fisted and tough. But she was extremely devoted to the faith. Her body passed from the world as all and didn't corrupt to the point of a witch. We're not certain witches are real or if they are manifestations of evil spirits that aren't mortal or come from a mortal plane but are more supernatural in origin. Sorry I know that doesn't help much but remember I am still in training essentially.

I don't doubt you have to do some bad things as apart of your job, just as I know sis sometimes has to do unpleasant things or our mama did before her. But the Goddess of Light spirit radiates in most so best I can say is try to keep that light even when the Dark Goddess has to be more front and center. I mean we are all people of these emotions we just need to find a balance of them."

I waved a hand.
"Oh, it's no problem.", I said - very sure, that Magdalene would use the address with responsibility and diligence and not sent it to the next yellow press news paper. Happened before, didn't need to happen again... I was still sure, that Magdalene wouldn't do such a thing. "You owe me nothing for..."
That was, when someone gently tapped my shoulder.
I could hear Dad's grin as I turned around and came face to face with Marcella and... by the Gods, hers and mine, she was just as beautiful, if not more beautiful, then I remembered her.
And I remembered her well.
My mouth was slightly agape, no sound coming out as it moved - and then I decided to fuck it all, wrapped my arms around her neck and pulled her close, bringing my lips softly onto hers.
They say, that gestures say more then words... well, this gesture would certainly say a lot. It would say, how much I loved Marcella, how much I missed her, how happy I was to see her again...
Dimly, almost drowned out by the sound of my own blood rushing through my veins, and by my heart pounding like a jackhammer, I heard Dad say: "Hello, Marcella."

Khana Amina bint-Karim.
"Indeed, I do have a bit of experience in that.", I said, "Flower-Arrangment on Garden-Scale is a bit difficult in Oea, so we developed a few interesting techniques along the way, especially when it comes to efficient watering." And there we were back at the climate. "An old Kyrenaian proverb says, that a beautiful rose garden is the crowning adornment of any palace - I certainly believe, that mine is beautiful, even if it is a bit small."

Ida Findehoof.

Magdalen, Carpathia and Marcella

"Lady Carpathia I'd really like to know what's so urgent, I was having a conversation with some close nations." Marcella stated out though she wasn't angry so much as confused. In her time here in Kuronami she'd already grown fairly fond and close with the sisters of the Empress.

"Just trust me." Carpathia had practically swung Marcella over to the tall dark skinned lady with hair of gold, even from behind she'd recognize that figure anywhere, it was her, Aurelia. Marcella's cheeks glowed red as she inhaled sharply and tapped Aurelia's shoulder. Though she hoped she didn't interrupt a conversation.

"Oh Duchess, welcome back." Magdalene greeted her

"A-a-a-Aurelia!" Marcella kind of shouted out but quickly lowered her voice to room level again. Good thing there was a lot of chatter and music so she didn't have to be too embarrassed. "It's great to see you here! Small world isn't it?!" She kept her ladylike dequorum for a professional gala like this. Though if she was home and this was her event she'd say screw it and throw herself onto Aurelia. "Milady, would you care to dance with me?" Marcella wasted no more time and offered a hand to Aurelia so they might share a dance with each other.

Better late than never, it was expected with long distances to travel and everything some might get to the party late which is why the gates were still closely watched for any arrivals and of course the good gentleman butler would continue to open the door to allow guests to enter with a "Good evening."

Of course the short walk from the entry way to the ballroom and it'd be quick to see Her Majesty still standing and greeting the latest arrivals. With a party from the Principality of Teressien. Great to meet new-ish-nations (new in the sense Kuronami's relations were still small with them). "Good evening" Empress Fine wished the new party of arrivals "Welcome to Caloris and welcome to the ball."

Izetta again grabed her dress to curtsy a hello. Again Bianca whispered a few helpful details into Fine's ear to make sure she knew who she was talking with. "Minister, Baronin, and you as well, Young Miss. I'm glad you could make it out."

Rivienland wrote:As he entered the large ballroom, he noticed it filled to the brim with all sort of figures from high society, surely from Kuronami and abroad. While the young man was in no opposition to the social scene, appearing in foreign courts always made him nervous. Immediately, Willy had memories of when he visited his grandmother and grandfather, while he was King of some distant country, and the other young boys made fun of him for his accent. "A foreign court can be just as bad as a pit of vipers," my mother always said. There was no doubt, coming from a different country, she did not face many difficulties: the language, the food, the customs, etc. Still, as my father always like to counter, my mother eventually adapted, and the appearance in a foreign court can also become a wonderful opportunity.

Focusing on the situation in front of him, Willy noticed he was now approaching the Empress, who was now welcoming guests. Notcing the Empress in her military uniform, he himself was also styled in military dress, specifically his 19th century-styled cavalry dress uniform. In contrast to the gold and naval blue design, Willy's slick back, brown hair and medium-length brown beard stood out. Standing before the Empress of Kuronami and her entourage, he bowed and said, "Your Imperial Majesty, may I say, on behalf of my family, the House of Van Riviendorp, and all of Rivienland, that it is an honor and a pleasure to be invited to your annual Winter Ball. We wish you, your family and subjects a healthy and joyous Winter Season."

Fine was still taking time to talk more formally with the new arrivals just becuase the demand had trickled down. Bianca looked at the watch "Apologies Milady it seems we still haven't heard from our later RSVPs so I'd say it's okay after this batch for you and Izetta to walk the dance floor at your leisure. My apologies again to hold you up." She bowed

"It's all right. But before we do it looks like we have a new arrival again." It seemed Kuronami wasn't the only nation to keep a sense of tradition and old class alive as their next guess arriving in a dress style uniform much like the one she was wearing this moment. "It's good to meet you and I'm glad you made it, Milord. And yes my family is all doing well. In fact I have two of my sisters here with me this evening, they're out on the floor somewhere so I'm sure you'll bump into them. One is older than me the other is younger."

Sirin blinked a bit but nodded "Yes, I understand, it was a pleasure." A real pleasure but very short. She stood aside to let him move on and well that was that it seemed for Sirin's fist encounter this evening.

He could comment on just how quickly they split apart when they arrived but oh well forget it, it wasn't worth making a fuss over, just as other parties had probably split up to mingle among the various guests here, what difference did it make, so long as the lady wasn't in trouble it was no further concern. "Never mind then, it's not important so I'll drop the subject now. Have you been in Caloris long? Been able to see anything beyond the Palace?"

The Gristolian Imperium wrote:"My father always joked that he feared a buffet table at a Ball more than an assassin's blade." A grin appeared on the face of the Empress as she thought of her father. He was always saying funny one-liners and, when she was a kid, she assumed that was just to make her laugh. Little did she know, all these years later, that he was slowly preparing her for public life. Returning from her reflection, she continued, "But, where are my manners?" Turning towards the stranger and giving a slight bow, Emily announced, "I am Emily the Second, Empress of the Gristolian Imperium and Queen of Gristol. Who do I have the pleasure of speaking with today?"

She chuckled "Yes I'd say I'm the same way when it comes to the sweets of a buffet table. I've had a few mishaps as a younger child about getting a little indulgent. Oh, forgive my lack of manners. Hyeon-Mi Il." she bowed deeply for the Empress "Your Majesty it's good to meet you. I'm the Noble Daughter of Hang Gang Domain in the East. My own father was a bit tied up with matters of the Domain that he sent me in his stead. Well I think I would have been able to come along either way, but I'm on my own here this evening.

Princess Aurelia bint-Damir.
I smiled as Marcella reacted cutely - and very cute she was as she shouted and then commented how small the world was, her face red and trying to be professional as she offered me her hand for a dance.
I took it gently.
"It would be my pleasure, Marcella-Khana.", I said, blushing myself by now, allowing her to lead.
I knew, that she would throw herself at me, if we were in the UIS and to be honest, we would most likely meet in the middle, for I would throw myself into her arms as well. And even here, I had the urge to rip that dress off of her and do things and stuff, but there were youngsters present.
Good things came to those, who waited for them, too.
I smiled, happy to be reunited with my love... for now, there were only three things in the world, her, me and the music.
This would be an awesome evening.
And she would meet Yasmin.

Ida Findehoof.
"Thank You, Your Imperial Majesty.", Adalrich said, bowing his head deeply with a smile, "Milady Izetta." He nodded to her. I followed him suit, just like when he turned back to Ortfine. My, she was as beautiful here as on the photographs. "It is our great pleasure to be here as well. I hope, that we can talk more later, but for now, please allow me to bring You the kind regards and best greetings of Fürst Alrich III., who is very sorry that he could not come himself. We also bring a message of peace and friendship, as well as a little gift with us." He raised his free hand. "All in due time, however. For now..."
He seemed to have spotted something from the corner of his eyes.
"...I'm afraid, that I must leave You to Your duties." He bowed his head and we followed suit. "Your Majesty, Milady Izetta - until later."
And with that, we left them there and went in and almost immediately, I spotted Berengar.
My heart stopped for a beat.
I saw him as my boyfriend. Well, by a wide definition. So far, we were letter-friends, mostly, met once, hit it off well - I had expressed my interest in him and I hoped, that he saw it similarly.
He took off his head as he bowed, holding it over his heart, sweating like a water fountain.
It was, to be honest, adorable.
I bowed my head in return and so did Adalrich.
"Hello, Berengar.", I said and smiled, said smile reaching from almost one ear to the other, then opened my arms and wrapped them around him in a careful, tender way, softly, as we were at a ball, but still proper: "It's good to see you again!"

"Well, I hope to have the honor of meeting them as well." Giving another slight bow, the Rivienlander responded, "I will not take any more of your time, Your Imperial Majesty. Until we talk again." Promptly departing from Her Majesty, His Royal Highness entered the crowd of aristocrats and socialites. Willy understood how introductions at Balls could be a touchy affair. As he has seen a few times in life, some members of the Ducal Court never knew when to stop talking when first greeting the Monarch. While many respected Willy's time, he always made sure to pay back this respect throughout his life. As first impressions go, Willy found the Empress to be nice enough for a foreign sovereign. Still, no final opinions could be made until further conversation could be made.

Staking out a cocktail table, he decided to view the crowd for a few moments. The fashion contrasts were quite apparent, but, when it came to international parties such as these, many simply ignored how others dressed. He was sure that, even with traditional fashion trends, his outfit looked out of place. Regardless, while Willy was not against reaching out to other guests to chat, he was just not sure where to start. At his father's behest, the Hereditary Grand Duke had just begun to make foreign appearances, and had few contacts abroad. "All I need," Willy mumbled, "was some topic to latch onto to start talking with someone..."

The Freezis Sisters.
Ball Room of the Royal Palace of Caloris, Kuronami.

One of the most powerful pair of sisters that Europa and Mervay has ever seen in the last decades, their power and influence was only rival to those within the higher positions of the state appartus, the Royalties of Mervay and the former Kingdom of Ardens and in their sector of power; just by a pair of business people with only one, being their main rival or competitor. Those two sisters are part of a family which has a rich history from way before the foundation of the nation they are loyal; they were famous for it's wealth and history of merchants, industrialists, politicians and military officers; often with successes and failures, then learning of those failures to not repeat them and be back up their feet. That. That was the Freezis Family.

Their history was one to be proud of, they were always getting at the top no matter the struggles they might encounter on their way to success, loyal to the crown and to the nation. But let's leave their history aside and let's focus on who are those two girls??

The Lady on the black dress was no other than; Ma'am Athena Minerva Freezis. Head of the Freezis Group. Her family has been part of Europa's history and so of Bolganio, they were known for their wealth and power, their philanthropist actions and many other things. Ever since she was born many saw her as the future leader of her family's companies, a self-starter and entrepreneur she was the one which had the entire company expand even further abroad their controlled markets with the SEA Accords being the perfect way to kick-in this massive long-term campaign which had begun to see some success, mostly on SEA Nations, but plans to expand to Horai, Kuronami, AHSCA, Shikonjima, The Aurora-Union, Nouvelle-Dunkerque, Teressien, Astares Amauricanum, etc, etc. And tonight with some of those nations representatives present it was a very great opportunity to not pass on, they could even go and expand beyond their listed targets.

Alongside the women of the black dress and violet eyes, there was her sister of crimson eyes and lavander hair. Ma'am Olivia Marie Isabelle Freezis, she was her "sister", well biologically speaking she was her cousin, but adoptively speaking she was her sister, that's sadly because she was taken care from the family after her parents died in a accident just a year later after she was born.

With the mother being part of the Freezis Family, when both families went to the court to see who would be the ones being Olivia's legal tutor's; in the end, it was decided that the Freezis Family would take care of Olivia, but her father's family will be involved on her life too. That promise was never broken and as time grew by, both girls saw each other as sisters, always together during adversities or misfurtunes and moments of happiness and joy.

When they both took over the family's business, Olivia decided to go on a supportive role of helping her sister and dealing with various company's issues as her boss focused on expand the company abroad even further and figure out their profits on their new and possible markets alongside how maximize them.

While both of them were here for business, leisure was another priority, albeit for one of the sisters she would had loved to be somewhere else, far away Kuronami in a archipielago of islands with a "friend", which was more of a romantic interest for her alongside being a friend she knew way back in that event from Bicíní Industries a few months ago.

Before dealing with the rest of festivities and the ball, first things first. Greet the hosts of the event and as such they went together, to greet The Empress and Her Girlfriend was for sure.

"Your Majesty Von Eylstadt, it's a pleasure to meet you and your girlfriend Ma'am. We would like to thank you for invite us." The older sister, Athena said, bowing alongside her younger sister in respect to both of them, minutes later there would be another guest coming.

Luciano Marcello Da Mervay
Ball Room of the Royal Palace of Caloris, Kuronami.

Representing officially the Mervayan Government and it's Royal Family, there were some issues regarding the rest of the Mervayan Royalty and the Ardens one which couldn't be present, mainly because there were issues at home regarding a civil war abroad that was important because of the resources at risk around that area. But that didn't meant he couldn't be away for pleasure and leisure, in fact it was more of a representation, gain some political support and have fun mostly. That was all.

And as such he was to have fun and try to not think about the coronavirus, that civil war, etc, etc. And as such here he was wanting to enjoy the ball and have fun; as soon as all political activities were done of course.

It was his turn of greeting The Empress and her fiancée; as expected he went in and bowed at them, smiling at both.

"Ma'am Fine and Ma'am Izetta. It's a pleasure to meet you, I would like to thank you for inviting me to such ball, I do apologize my sister wasn't able to be present and as such..." His Prince said as he took out something from his sheath. "I do not know if either of you are fans of fencing, but my sister believed it was a great gift. A piece of history copied to exact details, this sword is a copy of those used by both the coalition and Lucifenian Generals during our independence war; sadly we couldn't bring a original and restored sword because of it's history and the historic artifacts protection laws on my home. I do apologize for that but I hope either of you can make good use of it..."

Vladimir Toschya
Ball Room of the Royal Palace of Caloris, Kuronami.

Ahh Kuronami, what a good place to be, more when all you want is to take a break of war and what has been happening around your home. It's the perfect way of have some leisure, even if your head is being sought by at least half of his home continent and the only nation in that area to send people to this ball. Yeah... Perhaps he should went away of this area if he knew Mervayans were to be present, but; what's done is done.

His eyes focused on the guests around him as he watched both Freezis and The Prince of Mervay greet the Empress and her fiancée, at least he had to be glad no one has a track record of him around here, which saves his chances of being recognized easily; or so he hoped. At least if someone knew they wouldn't be doing anything unless some scandal comes into light and may god don't let that happening to him. More when there's a war you must keep going on for your personal benefit.

He looked at his pocket watch and sighed, knowing well it was his turn of greeting the hosts of the event and thanking them for the invitation. As such, he went in and smiled at both.

"Your Empress and Ma'am. I don't know if you all know me but in case, allow me to present myself. Sir Vladimir Toschya at your services...", Toschya said while bowing at the couple in respect to then regain his posture. "I would like to thank you for inviting me to such splendid event you have organized."

Regis and Shiho Blachkor
"Indeed, education is always a difficult topic to talk about, replies Regis with a nod. Between those who believe you must be strict and instill community values in tehc children, to those who want them to develop at their own pace, like the Montessori method, there's no perfect system in this world. As you say Miss Putino, you can only try to explore new ideas to improve your own system.
-Concerning our daughters, continues Shiho, I recognize that we've been strict but just with their education."

Adrean and Anna Blachkor
The Imperial Couple listens with attention to every word coming out from Gisella's mouth. Although the young Princess didn't catch the whole meaning of the question, her answer was still something to listen to.
"Thank you for your answer Princess, replies Adrean with a large smile, you may think it does not help a lot, but in fact it helps. As for bad deeds, what I really meant we do are the kind of "boots on the ground." deeds, like what happened back in 2009. Anyway, I suppose you're right when you say that as long as we put some light in what we do, it's good.
-We get dirty, and the world stays clean, recites the Empress with a sigh, before turning back to Gisella with a smile. Anyway Princess Gisella, since we talked about a state visit of your sister, and possibly you, to our Empire, are there any special things you would like to do or visit?" asks the Empress with a smile.
Just as Anna asks that, her husband puts his hand to his ear, and listens for a few seconds before tapping his ear twice.
"It was grandpa, he says as he turns back towards Anna and Gisella. Apparently, Marcella has been calld away to see Aurelia.
-Good to know the two lovebirds are reunited, replies the Empress before refocusing her attention on Gisella, awaiting her answer to the question she asked.

Allison Sanchez
Royal Palace

"I see what you mean," Allison said. "Given that my children are still in their teens, I worry that we're either too hard or too soft when it comes to their education; given Leon's activities, I'll reserve final judgment for several years after. As for Samantha, well..." She took a deep breath before continuing: "I'll admit her following my footsteps is not exactly what I expected, but it really got me where it counts. Esperanta, Your Imperial Astarian Highness, the thought of having your child sharing your interests does bring a sense of parental pride; were it not for my own religious beliefs I would propose a toast with alcohol in hand."
The Iglesia ni Cristo did not officially allow its followers to partake in alcohol, and Allison was particularly observant; indeed, the Sanchez household didn't keep alcohol, even for those occasions where non-Iglesia would come to visit.

Finé nodded and did Izetta "I thank him for the warm regards and sad he was unable to attend. Thank him in return for me and I look forward to seeing more of you this evening. Enjoy the party."

Bianca gestured the newly arrived guests to please part to the right as she had with the other guests that left Ida and company to move about the floor as they pleased.

Marcella Villa

Marcella had taken time to brush up on her dancing, though she wasn't too out of practice it never hurt to be prepared. With the orchestra playing a slow steady waltz each move was a easy calculated glide. Marcella giggled whispering "I should have known The Empress was up to something. She'd been coy with me all this time when I kept asking who would represent the great Sultanate at this party. My dear Aurelia, I think we've been set up." she smiled and gave a playful wink.

Amaterasu Daidouji

(ooc: I keep holding out but I guess Shio must be busy and can't post regularly right now so no need to hold further...)

"That's a very lovely proverb if I do say so. Huh ya know it's funny now that I think of it. A little bit ago, your country had a big festival for ships, if I recall correctly. Anyway the young handmaiden of my younger sister talked days in of all the sights she saw. I must say she talked up quite a lovely image of what The Sultanate is like. I can see now what young Yuna-san was talking about."

Rivienland wrote:"Well, I hope to have the honor of meeting them as well." Giving another slight bow, the Rivienlander responded, "I will not take any more of your time, Your Imperial Majesty.

Finé nodded, "I'll trust i'll be seeing you again this evening. Please enjoy the party." Like clockwork Bianca gestured the foreign Duke to walk off to the right.

It would seem Lady Sylvia Wisteria would have to entertain herself as her husband, ever the flirt he was had struck up conversation with some other lady. Well so be it then, she had other concerns on her mind than if her husband was a bit of a skit chaser. She weaved around the crowd to see if she could quench a little thirst with something to drink finding herself in the company of the Grand Duke. From the military uniform it was a little difficult to tell exactly his rank alone especially when considering he was from another country where ranks and hiearchy can easily be different so she bid a "Good evening." To him "Just arrived?"

Mervay wrote:The Freezis Sisters.

Vladimir Toschya

Sir Vladimir Toschya at your services...", Toschya said while bowing at the couple in respect to then regain his posture. "I would like to thank you for inviting me to such splendid event you have organized."

Well it seemed at long last the stragglers were starting to arrive which did mean Finé and Izetta would be the center pieces for a while longer but oh well, the evening was still young yet and plenty time ahead of them. The Mervayan Delegation had arrived, at long last and a good sight to see some friendly faces. "Miladies, thank you for joining us tonight! I'm glad you could make it all the way here especially what has been going on in Mervay of recent. Just remember Kuronami is ready to help. I'm glad you could attend ladies, I hope I'll see you more this evening. We should be done here very soon but until then, feel free to help yourselves to any food or drink you might want. Also dancing this evening. Enjoy."

"Thank you for coming." Izetta said with a curtsy.

Never missing a beat Bianca gestured the ladies to move off to the right. Up next another Mervayan guest, "Good evening Sir Da Mervay thank you for coming. Let me stress again as I did with the other ladies, you can count on Kuronami for help if you need it, until then I'm thrilled you could be here. I hope your sister is well"

She was presented with a gift a sword "As a matter of fact I do enjoy fencing, though I'm not very good at it. But it's a fun sport and I thank you for the gift very much. Please feel free to join the others and have something to eat if hungry it's just over to the right." Bianca again did what she did. Next the last guest from Mervay but honestly though Fine couldn't say she recognized him but it's not like she vetted every RSVP herself, it was a rather open invite so maybe he was one of their high end nobility or just another influential figure. "Good evening Sir Toschya. Welcome to the ball, I'm glad you could join your other countrymen here this evening. Please feel free to help yourselves to any food you like and mingle with guests. If you need anything sir, feel free to ask any of the staff, you'll see them wandering about."

"Do you know him?" Izetta inquired

"I'm embarrassed to admit I really don't. It was an open invite so it's not as though he couldn't be an attache of someone else who couldn't come."

"Need an eye on him?" Bianca asked

"I don't think anymore than we have already." Her eyes did glance over to the far left where a few of her other highly trained guards were posted to secure the peace and security of this party. "But I'll leave it to your judgement Bianca."

"As You Wish." Bianca made a mental note, she'd radio her various agents around the room and palace grounds to keep an eye out and alert the serving staff. Until then she kept her to her post. When Lotte came up with a fresh glass of water for the ladies here Bianca summoned her "Lotte, come here."

"Yes, Lady Bianca?"

"Would you have it passed along the staff we have an unusual guest?"

"Yes ma'am."

"Lotte, make sure they know it's not an imminent threat okay, we don't want anyone freaking out."

"Yes ma'am."

My fears subsided a little. Thank God...

I wrapped my own arms around her, just as carefully. If we were in private I'd probably have nearly broken one of her ribs, but we were in public, so...
"Good to see you too..." I responded. "You like the cobbler I sent you?"

I was referring, specifically, to the dozen or so peach cobbler MREs that I had managed to buy from an American quartermaster shortly before returning home. American rations generally didn't have a good reputation among the Reichswehr, but Peach cobbler was a notable exception. It was a tasty(by the standards of your average Reichswehr grunt), if rather messy, dessert, although, like all other MREs, it caused stomach issues(constipation among them) if one ate too many of the damned things at once.

Among the other things I had sent to her over our correspondence included part of the bolt of a rusty-old Khyber-Pass Lee-Enfield that I had confiscated from a cache of arms, and...a lot of camel-related memorabilia and footage. Like, a lot.

If(and when) we broke the hug, I would turn my attention to Adalreich, and held out my hand for a handshake. "Evenin', sir." I said. "I...think I know you, but I unfortunately cannot recall your name at the moment."

"Negative, sir." she replied. "Haven't seen much outside of what I saw through the windows on my way from the airport. Seems like a pretty good place to visit." But not to live in. she thought to herself.
"You're from 'round here, roight?"

Marcella had taken time to brush up on her dancing, though she wasn't too out of practice it never hurt to be prepared. As we danced to the slow waltz, and I felt, that Marcella had brushed up on her dancing, I could not help but smile: "I don't think, that I mind her scheming.", I whispered to Marcella, "It was a wonderful surprise."
The waltz was slow and we basically glided over the dance floor.
"And speaking of surprises...", I said and directed Marcella's gaze inconspicuously towards Dad and his side, "...see the woman with Dad? My future step-mom, Princess Yasmin bint-Atif. I'll introduce you formally later." I gave Marcella and apologetic smile. "She and Dad are up to something, too, I know it. But for now, I have no idea and no evidence."

We have many festivals and many involve ships, but if I would have to guess, she was at one of Sinope's Harbour Festivals, this Miss Yuna. I doubted, that she would have talked the same way about the Surya Fleet Day...
Anyway.
"I am glad to hear, that she liked it.", I said, then added: "If you ever find yourself bitten by the travel bug and want to see Kyrenaia for yourself, give me a call and you and your little sister and anyone you might want to bring along will be welcome in Oea and in the Muaqab Palace." I then added: "And I am sure, that Marla would be happy to meet you as well."
Marla was my adopted daughter and ward.

I smiled so widely, he must have heard it - and I knew, that we would have crushed each other to bits, if we would have been somewhere more private.
Of course, I had received his packages, part of our correspondence - including the cobbler. He, in turn, received from me a lot of images of myself, my sisters, friends, even my parents were on one or two, as well as my grandmother. I also sent him sweets and other such foodstuffs from the Free Lands and Teressien, a recommendation by said Grandmother, who happened to be Admiral Naya Findehoof, the Minister of Defense, Highest Soldier and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Principality of Teressien.
And why had been deployed to far-off lands quite often during her career, too.
And although some of the swimsuits in the images of me, my sisters and our friends had been a bit daring, nothing had been overly sexualized either.
I replied to him: "Yep, it was nice, as you said.", I told him, then added: "I shared with my sisters and Kiah wants to know, where you got them from - and where she can get more!"
I was grinning by then and let go of him.
I would have loved to hug him more, but the inconspicuous cough of an older gentleman made me well aware of the fact, that we were hugging a bit longer then it was appropriate.
Needless to say, that I would have loved to hug him a bit longer.
Berengar held out his hand to Onkel Adalrich, who grabbed it and gave it a firm and solid shake. "That is no problem, young man, and I actually like to stay a bit in the shadows. Adalrich von Ehrenback - I am the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Teressien." Berengar would know, that my Dad was the Ambassador of the Principality to the Free Lands. "And you must be Prinz Berengar von Hohenzollern-Jagiellon. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance."

En Route to The Royal Palace. Caloris, Kuronami. June 20, 2020. Evening time.

With COVID-19 not being a major threat nor having a major effect on Cartoonia any longer, it was safe for the Supreme Leader Jimmy Kudo and his wife Rachel Moore to travel outside of the country to attend the winter ball in Kuronami. Both have dressed in their best, their best in being a military uniform for Jimmy (minus the sword) and a red and white dress for Rachel. One would immediately think they are royalty, which would technically be correct except that the people call Jimmy the Supreme Leader instead of king, though people sometimes do call him emperor. They travel through Caloris on their way to the Royal Palace by limousine. Having spent the day at the Cartoon embassy getting ready (which is quite standard for all Cartoon embassies to accommodate the Supreme Leader and his family when on visits around the world), they’d find themselves comfortable in the wintery setting, even though back home it was summer.

“You know” Rachel says. “I’ll never truly understand the weather of other nations. I mean, it’s June! I thought it was suppose to be... you know, no snow?”.

“It’s kinda weird. I’m not going to lie” Jimmy responds. “But that’s the beauty of the world. We just may never know what is in store”.

“I guess your right” Rachel says, “God does work in mysterious ways”.

“He is a great God isn’t he” Jimmy says. As they finish conversing with each other, they arrive at the Royal Palace. Guards open up the limo door to let the Supreme Leader out.

“Rachel” Jimmy says as he exits the vehicle holding his hand out to her. “Are you ready?”. Rachel nodded as Jimmy helps her out of the limo. They make their way up the steps to the palace doors. They enter the palace and hear a live band playing waltzes in the background.

“Oh, the music sounds wonderful” Jimmy says to his wife. “I hope they play a two-step, I love a good two-step”. They continue to walk in as their names were announced to the palace. They approach Empress Ortfiné Fredericka von Eylstadt, who like Jimmy is dressed in a military uniform.

“Your Imperial Majesty” Jimmy says as both he and Rachel bow in front of Empress Ortfiné as a standard and genuine sign of respect. An honor and a pleasure to meet you. I hope you are doing well”.

While glancing over the crowd, Willy felt the table move as if someone else joined him. Looking over his shoulder, he saw a women and made eye contact. Giving him a brief greeting, His Royal Highness, giving a brief bow, responded, "Good evening, my lady. And yes, I just finished greeting Her Imperial Majesty." Giving a slight nod in the Empress' direction, it seemed she was still welcoming guests. Already, he reflected, it seemed the ballroom was filled to the breaking point with people. He wondered how many more guests were invited to the Ball.

"How about you? I must say this is my first time attending the Winter Ball. Oh, and pardon me for forgetting, but I am Willem-Constantijn, Hereditary Grand Duke of Rivienland. Who do I have the pleasure of speaking with," he asked.

My own father was a bit tied up with matters of the Domain that he sent me in his stead. Well I think I would have been able to come along either way, but I'm on my own here this evening.

"It is a pleasure," Emily remarked. "I must ask, as I do not know the country well, but what is the Hang Gang Domain in the East like? My visit here is the first time I have personally been in the country." Now that she thought more, it was the first time any monarch of the Imperium had traveled to Kuronami. Of course some tourists like to travel here in the winter, but, other than that, she truly knew nothing about the nation she now stood in.

Vizier Azad Safir.
Tamina and I passed on the slow waltz - the orchestra was wonderful and as skilled as any other orchestra I had ever danced to during such balls, if not more, but slow dances... Tamina and I were a bit competitive, when it came to dancing.
I was sure, that we would get enough chances during the evening.
Just now, Tamina had spotted Aurelia and Marcella-Khana on the dance floor, the two dancing like only young love could dance, and I smiled.
Aurelia was a good woman, who fought for what she perceived as her right to marry the woman, who she loved, and who wanted for others to be able to do so as well.
I was not sure, if I was onboard with that myself, but I knew, that Tamina loved this story of forbidden love and everything it entailed. She was that kind of woman.
And that was one of the reasons I loved her.
But regardless of that, the ball room was filling up quite nicely, with people, who I could not identify at first glance, international guests and so on. But for now, the two of us went for a drink, parched after the first dance.
With out arrival at one of the buffet tables, we were available for conversation - now the question was, who would bite?

Peter and Genievra Blachkor

For Adrean's paternal grandparents, the waltz they had just dance would be one to remember, since it had been a long time they had last danced one.
However, a grumble from the retired Empress stomach's had called for a pause for the couple, which is why they're currently approaching the buffet, in search for a nibble and some drinks.
"So, what do you want? asks Peter to his wife.
-Water would be nice first, I'm parched, replies Genievra as she looks around the table.
-Yeah, me too, answers her husband, before advancing to the right of the table, his eyes browsing the table contents, but not so much his other surroundings.
As he finally spots some water, he raises his eyes jst in time to avoid bumping in a dark-skinned man in a suit, accompanied by a woman with pointy ears (Strange, thinks the retired Emperor)
"Sorry I nearly bumped into you Sir, says the Blachkor grandfather to the man, who for a reason gives him a sense of déjà-vu. Peter Blachkor, retired Emperor of the Empire of Astares Amauricanum."

"I don't see why not," Allison replied. "I could use some refreshment anyway," she added with a smile of her own, all the while thinking of what she might say if she ever planned on writing her memoirs; most members of the Visayan Federal Council were avid memoirists, typically publishing their memoirs after their tenures. The memoirs of Jessica Mantuhac, who served as Secretary of Foreign Affairs under Presidents Vergara and Benson, were bestsellers popular in the Visayan political environment; titled Real talk, Realpolitik, it made her the most polarizing member of the Federal Council since it was published in 2015.
"Before that, however...I could use the ladies' room." Allison's ruminations were interrupted by the urge to use the washroom, much to her discomfort.

"Please do", replies Regis with a nod, before stopping another servant. "Could you please bring us four glasses of lemonade if there is any? Would you toast with us Miss Putino"? asks the Prince as he turns to the Kuronami Governor.
- Miss Putino, I've yet to ask, continues Shiho, but can you please tell us more about the Domain you handle?"

Adrean and Anna Blachkor

I hadn't actually paid much attention to the photos. They were lovely to look at, yes, but I worried about damaging them. And...for those particular images, seeing her in a swimsuit felt...wrong. I dunno why.

I still wrapped each one in clear masking tape, and kept them in a secure part of my fatigues-the right breast pocket, to be exact, right next to a small group of rare coins, including a US Guam Quarter.
The sweets, on the other hand...Well, I ate some, gave others away to squadmates, traded a few pieces to yet others for stuff I needed. Some of her candy, in fact, had been part of the price for the peach cobbler. I had met Naya before, and she had made a good impression on me-and if this was her suggestion, well, she was a right old chap in my book.

I shrugged at Ida's question. "Bought a dozen of 'em from an American quartermaster at a Commissary. I..." I hesitated a little. Did she actually find them good? Some guy stuck in the desert and bored out of his mind would, but her...? Oh dear, this was an issue...I had no idea how to buy them.
Okay, that's a lie. I do know how to buy them, but it entails paperwork. A shitton of paperwork.
"I...might be able to get some more, if you want." I replied, after awhile. "Various American bases probably have commissaries, or at least Quartermasters with MREs that they aren't using, some of which will be cobbler. But I need to get back to you on that."

With regards to Adalrich-nice, firm handshake. And a Foreign Minister to boot...I had shaken the hand of his American equivalent, the US Secretary of State once, and his hand felt like a dead fish, and he felt...a little greasy. Far cry from the rough, charmingly coarse, hard-drinking(when they could get their hands on liquor) rednecks I had met, or the quiet, slightly-nasally Northeasterners.
"Pleasure to meet you too, Minister Ehrenback." I replied. "Please, just call me Berengar. Or Beren. Either works."

I considered giving him a salute out of habit for a few moments, but ultimately decided against it. A handshake was formal and polite-or in other words, it was good enough for the occasion-and unlike Prussia-Poland, I was reasonably sure that the top levels of government were not entirely, or at least mostly, occupied by former anticommunist militants or partisans, all of whom held at least some rank that required a salute when greeting them. Most were pretty chill about protocol, but it only takes a few pompous asshats to ruin the rest. Saluting an old veteran was one thing, but him demanding you drop a heavy load to do so was...well, bull.

Vizier Azad Safir.
There was an older gentleman, who nearly bumped into me while looking for something.
He introduced himself quickly - as Peter Blachkor, the retired Emperor of an upstart of a little Empire, where Damir and a delegation had been a few months ago. Diplomatic relations were on a professional level.
There was one Golden Rule about being a Sultan in Kyrenaia: Once you were chosen as Sultan, you stayed in office until your last breath. Retiring, as it were, was frowned upon, to say the least.
How much? There were people, who called him Peter the Deserter. I called him his Grandson's Grandfather. Whether or not that was a compliment is up for interpretation.
Of course, it was rather unlikely, that he knew about that, as such a topic was not discussed in public and those who you discussed it with knew, that some things were not mentioned to others.
I bowed my head lightly.
"Azad Safir.", I introduced myself, leaving out my title and station out on purpose - either he knew, who I was, or he didn't, but I would certainly not shove it into his face. I was Kyrenaian and not a braggart. "And it is no problem, Mister Blachkor."
How do you address an oxymoron like a retired Emperor? As a 'Mister', of course, not as an 'Imperial Majesty' - he had given that up, so why address him as such?

"My sisters and mother do tell me I''m too much of a workaholic so maybe it is about time for a vacation. So yes I'd say we can set a destination for the Great Sultanate in the future. It would be a lot of fun. My younger sister went to see the sensha-do sport, I think that was in The Freelands but I honestly don't remember. Well that just goes to show me even my sister gets out more than me. So consider this challenge accepted!"

Right now her sisters would tell her that's not how vacations work but oh well, Ame (Her nickname) was determined to have a vacation!

Princess Aurelia bint-Damir.
I smiled at Marcella as the dance ended, resisting the urge to kiss her deeply, instead pecking her on the lips.
"You're awesome!", I told her, then offered her my arm to link, "Ready to meet my future stepmom?"
Yasmin, I came to understand by now, was not a bad woman. My initial jealousy had been that, jealousy, maybe even childish jealousy, but the more I watched Dad and her, I saw, that she was good for him.
And, if I was honest, he was good for her, too.
I led Marcella towards the two once she was ready, cleared my throat to catch their attention, not as if I didn't already have it, and said: "Hey, Dad, we're back."
"I can see that.", Dad said and bowed his head lightly, then gave me a little look.
I nodded.
"Yasmin.", I said and had her attention immediately. Before, she had watched Marcella. "If I may introduce? Marcella, my girlfriend. Marcella, Yasmin, my future stepmom."
"It is a great pleasure to finally meet you, Marcella. Aurelia was not sparing with love in her voice, whenever she talked about you.", she said and I blushed a bit - it was true, though. Yasmin was undecided for a moment, then asked: "Would you allow me to hug you?"

Khana Amina bint-Karim.
I smiled and bowed my head lightly.
"It would be my pleasure.", I said and raised my head again: "I can show you my rose garden then, too." It was a point of pride for me, to be honest - and, unlike what some people with their minds in the gutter might think, it was not a euphemism. "Though, just a word of advice. If you don't like hot weather, Kyrenaia will not be fun to you, not even Oea. We do have warm water, though, and that's always fun to bathe in."
That was actually Sheliak's main industry: Tourism and bathing tourism at that...

Ida Findehoof.
I was not disappointed by his reply about the cobbler, I almost thought, that this would be the case - still, Kiah might be. I had hoped, that there were stores selling a surplus or something...
I nodded. Take your time., was the message behind it, and my smile would tell him, that I was not angry.
Really, there were more important things then cobbler.
Berengar didn't salute, although he seemed to consider it for a moment - he did good, mainly because Adalrich had been a civilian his entire life (safe for some time as a voluntary firefighter, if I remember correctly) and even if not, he was too modest of a man to ask anyone to salute him.
"Well, then, Berengar, please feel free to call me Adalrich.", he said, then looked to his side, where Baronin Wilrun was watching us with a smile, "If I may introduce, Baronin Wilrun von Port Monee."
The other woman extended her hand, holding it out arbitrarily, either for a shake or a kiss, whichever Berengar preferred, and smiled: "Please call me Wilrun. I think, I saw you last year at Alrich's Ball at Schloss Zyng, right?"

"Thank you," Allison replied. Escorted by the maidservant, she made her way to the ladies' room for relief.
Shortly after, she cleaned up after herself; she made sure to wash her hands thoroughly. As she made her way back to Esperanta and the Astarian royals, she couldn't help but notice how other foreign dignitaries handled themselves. From afar she could see the Shikonjimanese and wondered idly about their Reunification with the Ferinan Archipelago...
Her ruminations were interrupted as she saw her conversation partners in view; behind them was a servant with four glasses.

"Oh you want to know about Mazomba huh? Well let me see if I can give you an abridged version here..." She thought what would be good to start "Well Mazomba is a archipelago of islands off the south coast of the mainland. A decent ways off the coast not something I'd try swimming too." she chuckled "Oh lame joke then, got it." She chuckled again "Anyway, as I said it's a bunch of islands. They've been around for centuries but were ruled by different tribes and rulers for years then became a kingdom then we were formally annexed by Kuronami. A peaceful one, one of mutual benefit between us, but there are still independence sympathizers, some among my own family. Of course my family wants it done through grass roots political action and not violence. I'm more pro-union myself but I have an open mind and open ears. I became the new Governor General after the good Mister Aberkombi left this mortal world. He was a fine man, loving father and grandfather and solid leader. "Oh it was repelling an invasion. We weren't united then. Well not yet, it was the war that pushed it forward but it was being discussed for years. Only problem was before that, nobody could decide if it should be a federation of states, a unitary system, a confederation. Well push came to shove and our feet were against the fire we felt a federation would be best. I'm not sure we are strictly that but well whatever it worked. But I can imagine how scared everyone was, not sure this whole declaring independence would work. That anyone would take it seriously enough to consider the invasion invalid and to help us. Marcella was whisked away by Aurelia over to meet Aurelia's future stepmother. As they talked about during the festival it was a bit of an unpleasant subject for Aurelia, and why wouldn't it be? It was harder for Marcella to relate having the benefit of both her parents around always but Aurelia lost the mother who gave her life and brought her up from a tiny little infant. All she could do was try her best to empathize and talk to her about it. "ready and waiting." And she was brought before Yasmin who requested a hug, well how could she refuse "It'd be wonderful!" Marcella embraced in a hug with the lady.
