Athelhart explained strumming a few chords and adjusting the strings afterwards.

"A lyre?" Larsa piqued up. "What's wrong with playing a lyre? Did the folks back at home not think you a truther?" the young Prince punned and quickly inserted a quip in. If there was one thing a Dancerian enjoyed, it was a good round of rustic music. Archades of course was more Greek and Eastern in terms of musical culture, having been long since influenced by the Byzantine colonists.

"Hey now I never said the lyre wasn't fun to play with a merry band of friends and kin but unlike the guitar you can't play rock and roll and metal music with a lyre. My parents were not all that excited for that choice of mine." Athelhart explained with that signature smile still in place and a laugh at the end. "Though if you need a change of pace from rocking out I'll bust out my lyre skills, it is still a fun instrument after all."

"I like the harshness, it's a major change of pace. Now on to the lyre, while yes I am familiar with the Greek myths the lyre I was trained with can best be described as an Anglo-Saxon lyre so I'm not really sure if it is exactly the same thing but probably pretty close." Athelhart explained to Helena before he turned to answer Otto's question. "The difficulty wasn't to bad because I had so many masters of the craft in my village, it was and still is the most popular instrument in the lodges because it lends itself well to singing and playing."

Ciorstan chuckled softly, flattered mostly at his grin and reply. She then assists Niek with the rest of his luggage.

"Say, may I ask where you're from, if that not much of a bother," she inquired.

“Thank you” Niek said once Ciorstan had helped him get the remaining bags out. As he listened to her question, he noticed that more and more people were heading inside the hostel. Not wanting to seem indifferent to her question, Niek tried to neglect the others and keep his focus on Ciorstan.

“Yes ma’am”, the Limburger replied. “I come from the Free State of Limburg, most beautiful country in Europe.” His accent thickened, especially when saying “ma’am” and “Europe”. His words were fully genuine and he spoke with conviction, as any loyal Limburgs patriot should. “Folaisia is most beautiful country in America” he quickly added, trying not to sound too boastful or rude. He had, indeed, not traveled to any other American nation before, and his knowledge of Folaisia limited itself to an airport and a ten-minute trip through Grangemouth in a school bus.

Ehtelë had been one of the first people in the lobby followed by a woman he recognized from the bus. He had been particularly amused at her concentration to not look regretful when the Camolonean recited a lengthy oath. What had she said her name was? He thought but couldn't remember, however he did recall she said that she hailed from the Union of Cybernetic Socialist Republics.

He knew little of these Cybernetic Socialist Republics, save that - like his own country - they seemed rather fond of long names and that they did not have a rigid social hierarchy like his own, though few did. What was a Cybernetic Socialist Republic, anyway? Ehtelë surmised it must be some form of technocracy adapted for contemporary progress or the like.

"Greetings and salutations," He said to her with a polite, formal bow at the waist his clasped together before him. His spoke with a soft voice and words accented with the melodic rhythm typical to his people, the Noldori, "Elen síla lúmenn' omentielvo." He stated the traditional greeting in his native Quenya, with another bow yet not so formal, then re-iterating in English, "A star shines at the hour of out meeting. I am called Ehtelë Arvanion and I wish to extend a gesture of friendship to you. I do hope that, generally, your journey from home was a pleasant one. Yes?"

As Verity atood of the side of the lobby, her suitcases placed on the ground but her backpack on, she was approached by an asian student she'd seen on the bus but noticed that he was quiet the entire ride.

He introduced himself to her as Ehtelë Arvanion, extended 'a gesture of friendship' and inquired about her trip. While one couldn't be absolutely sure, it was a fair bet by his mannerisms, accent and language that he had originated somewhere in asia, though he notably did not inform her of the country he was from before inquiring about her own journey. Nonetheless, she would answer:

"My name is Verity Nicholas, from the Union of Cybernetic Socialist Republics, my journey from home was, in fact, pleasant, thank you. May I ask where you're from?"

Ehtelë's eyes widened slightly as they darted left and right. How could he have neglected where he was from? Such an embarrassed, especially after his own mental admonishments of others for their behavior. There was a moment's hesitation before he responded, "Twelve thousand apologies, Verity Nicholas. I forget myself. I hail from Arda Tuluva. From Nindelos, our largest city." He bowed again in apology.

He realized that he should have mentioned his nation of origin with his introduction, but then again he had never needed to before. This was his first time leaving Arda Tuluva and back home he spoke Quenya with an unmistakable Nindelosi accent that anyone in his country could pick out instantly. He concealed his annoyance as his folly, but

"It is certainly a... ah, varimaldëa, uh, varimaldëa..." he paused trying to find the best translation. At times, he found that it was difficult to translate Quenya into other languages, "an interesting... unique group of people. I am rather surprised at how many are counted among the nobility." Ehtelë had spent enough time in the presence of the Blood back in Arda Tuluva to pick out who was raised in nobility. One could easily sense the aura of the aristocracy; their entitlement, their attitude, their entire demeanor almost always gave them away.

It came to him then, how was he to interact with them? Rituals and regulations stipulated a ridiculous amount of protocol on how they were to interact. But, these foreign nobles have no understanding of the proper rites; therefore, they would not act in accordance to Arda Tuluvan tradition. Would he, then, still have to maintain the proper custom? Probably, but he was really unsure. He decided then he would have to settle on mostly following Arda Tuluvan etiquette.

"May I ask, then. What had brought you to be selected in this exchange program?" It was then the soft melody filled the room, Ehtelë looked over towards the young woman playing a guitar, "Ah, you happen to also play an instrument?"

"In this vast expanse, that is sheltered by evil and led astray,
she will be the beacon of light in the darkness, to the warriors of the Fëanturi,
and to all who follow the true Path to salvation. With the wisdom of the ages,
she will lead us to glorious victory over any and all unbelievers."

Though the sudden intervention had been a large disappointment, Mary saw no point in going against the order. "My apologies, sir", exclaimed Mary as she simply tagged along behind Benoîst towards the mandated direction. Anyhow, she wasted no time in continuing their previous conversation. "Well, aside from my own sister, I also have 2, sort of twin brothers, Richard and Alistair. Before I go on, what about you? You haven't told me about yours", suggested Mary with her usual demanding and knowledge-seeking tone. Surely, Mary herself was a really energetic and active child. Added with her status as the youngest sibling out of 4, she is sometimes admittedly a difficult daughter to raise by her parents and her siblings on several occasions.

"Twins? Having twin siblings sounds interesting - identical twins, I assume? That's cool, very cool. Sounds like you have a pretty large family." Benoîst smiled, giving off a friendly grin, before shaking his head, "Oh, forgive me, I don't actually have any siblings, I'm an only child. A lot of the top members of the Purgation National League, like my father, well, they don't really believe in having more than one or two children, for a whole bunch of ideological reasons. And anyway, most of the PNL leadership, well they tend to prefer to conceive artificially, through the PIGC's Les Enfants du Ciel program, and my mother never ceases to remind me how expensive it is, I've heard the average procedure costs as much as $575,000 Élites. Which I suppose only encourages the PNL leadership to have fewer children. Anyway, it does get a little lonely sometimes, being an only child, but I had friends at school, and honestly sometimes I do wonder if it does tend to make my mother a little more over-protective of me than if I were, like, one of four children or something like that, you know? Gosh, I've been talking for far too long about myself, now haven't I?" Benoîst chuckled softly in bemusement.

Champagne Socialist Sharifistan wrote:“Hello Mary” said Khalid, kissing her hand.

As Benoîst made his last remark, he saw this slightly-older, well-dressed, Arab-looking teenager saunter over confidently towards him and the Princess Mary, and without hesitation planted a kiss on her palm and greeted her, which took Benoîst aback, instantly. He wasn't sure how things were done back in this teen's home country, but back in Purgatio this kind of behaviour would have been immediately regarded as sexual assault and harassment, and the Purgation authorities took a very harsh and stern view of anyone they deemed a violent criminal or antisocial subject - Génétiquement Dysfonctionnel, that was the term the PNL elite used for this type of situation. Benoîst, however, was a pretty timid and unassuming person, who hated conflict and confrontation more than anything, so he was desperate not to make a scene out of this. He tersely cleared his throat, "Excuse me?" He asked this newcomer, eyebrows raised in impatience and annoyance, "Did you just...I mean, did you seriously just....ahem...did you....." He stammered aloud, his facial expression getting visibly more irritated by the second, he couldn't stand the audacity and temerity of what this teenage boy had done right in front of everyone.
Purgatio is an absolutist hereditary monarchy run as a one-party fascist dictatorship, which seized power in a sudden and abrupt coup d'état of 1987-1988, on an authoritarian eugenic and socially Darwinistic political philosophy and ideology, now ruled and dominated with a brutal iron fist under the watchful reign of Le Grand Roi Chalon-Arlay de la Fayette and La Grande Reine Geneviève de la Fayette (née Aumont) (i.e., the 'Founding Couple' or Le Couple Fondateur).

"May I ask, then. What had brought you to be selected in this exchange program?" It was then the soft melody filled the room, Ehtelë looked over towards the young woman playing a guitar, "Ah, you happen to also play an instrument?"

After Verity had asked Ehtelë about his home country, he was quick to apologize for not having already informed her of it in his introductiondo, clearly embarrassed by his mistake. Additionally, he had bowed toward her. He also had done so when he first introduced himself. That told her that in all likelihood, he was yet another student from a highly traditionalist, arbitrarily hierarchical society, though she supposed they could just also be exceeding deferential. At the very least, however, in this case, that upbringing did not lead to him acting in any way that was condecending to her.

He went on to point to something that she had also been thinking, that this group of exchange students was crawling with nobility, a fact that she had been increasingly recognizing during the bus ride up till now. Ehtelë then asked her about why she'd been selected for this exchange program.

Before Verity got the chance to answer, Ehtelë turned toward a girl that had been playing her guitar in the lobby. Ehtelë had asked her a question, thought Verity. The least he could do was let her answer it before being distracted by someone else. If he wanted to talk to this girl about her musical endeavours. he shouldn't have bothered continuing the conversation with Verity.

Before the little guitarist girl could answer, Verity audibly cleared her throat and answered the question Ehtelë had asked her in the first place:

"Back home, I'm in a preparatory school for students pursuing a career in international affairs, after having been assigned there for testing high aptitude for the field. As part of the third year of my studies there, I'm required to participate in an international student exchange program. Of the options I had, I picked St. Peadrus MacCallion because I found the dynamics of a secularizing catholic school that takes in larger numbers of international students to be an interesting case."

Thanking them, she leaves to attend to Lechle's luggage, much to the apparent exhaustion displayed by the disheveled student that she took to be unusual.

Gratefully, Lechle gave a polite nod to the chaperone and returned his gaze to Emmanuelle. He excused himself to the lobby, giving Emmanuelle the opportunity to vacate if she'd like, though she wouldn't be vacating his mind anytime soon.

"I better follow the herd into the lobby. If I'm lucky, I'll see you at dinner."

Emmanuelle smirked as she watched Saoirse attend to Lechle's luggage, knowing better than to try her luck at getting someone to carry hers, not that she would have been overly comfortable parting with it and entrusting it to someone else anyway, even if only temporarily.

"Well, I better follow as well." she reasoned, sticking with him just a little bit longer. "Speaking of dinner, when is that?" she asked, wondering what might possibly be served. Even the mention of a meal had suddenly reminded her that she was not only hungry, but thirsty as well.

Benoîst only narrowed his gaze at that response, thinking to himself, 'that is normal where he's from??', while he kept from vocalising those thoughts aloud he could not hide the mix of bewilderment and disgust that showed on his face in response. Again, Benoîst cleared his throat, before trying his best to make the point explicit without being too direct, "Ahem, sir, I'm not sure who you are exactly, but allow me to simply ask - did you ask the Princess for her permission and consent before you just went straight to kissing her hand?"

He thought the boy would be ok but still had his pepper spray in case.

“Do you verbally ask permission before shaking womens’ hands where you’re from?”said Khalid with a wide grin.

Benoîst was getting visibly annoyed, especially at this man's arrogant grin, "Not verbally, no, you stick out your hand, and the other person, man or woman, decides on their own if they want to shake yours. You don't just run up to a stranger and grab their palm without asking, no one does that, it's incredibly rude."

Benoîst was just about to open his mouth to respond to this older stranger's angry remarks, before he started screaming "can you apologise??!!", almost like a petulant child, at which point Benoîst had just about had enough with being disrespected and mistreated like this, but even then he couldn't help but just burst out laughing uncontrollably at such a peevish and ill-tempered reply, "Wow....wow, wow, wow, wow....okay, you, whoever you are, I don't know how people treated you back in...well, wherever you come from, but I definitely am not going to apologise for saying it is rude and uncouth to just walk up to random strangers and start planting kisses on their body without their consent, and I almost certainly not more likely to apologise after that ridiculous display of, well, whatever that was." Benoîst rolled his eyes and shook his head, scoffing, "My god, I don't believe I've ever been spoken to like this in my life. Get a grip, man."

Yes, this was a misunderstanding, but again, I can't apologise when I didn't say or do anything wrong. And its not as if I'm asking you to apologise here, I don't see why I should have to."

Camelone wrote:"I like the harshness, it's a major change of pace.

Larsa could sympathize with the Camelonean. While culturally it may be more Skaldic than Sophoclean in terms of musical tradition, both still were drawn upon as sources of great ballads. Such reinventions for modern metal were enjoyed and listened to, even by the most fuddy of gaffers.
"So how about your career now? Did you form any bands, go on solo tours...or is it just a hobby for now?" The Princeling's practiced stoicism was gradually fading away. Music-especially good music-had that effect on Dancerians.

“Ok.” He said.
He then turned to Athelhart “excuse me I am not sure I got your name. Mind saying it again?” He said.

Champagne Socialist Sharifistan wrote:“Sorry for being A bit funny earlier, my lady.”said Khalid.
He was determine to have some kind of female partner for the foreign exchange otherwise things would get pretty boring; notwithstanding Athelhart as a friend and the numerous books he had brought with him.

Emmanuelle half-heard Khalid's apology, her focus not quite fully on him, and as she looked back over it appeared that again the tall boy was potentially causing trouble with another boy and girl, which she didn't want to get involved in. It reinforced her initial assumption that perhaps he just couldn't avoid starting trouble, and not even the fun kind of trouble that she wasn't necessarily opposed to. Instead, she ignored him and her focus shifted back across to Lechle as they left that scene behind and made their way indoors.

“Have you unpacked already or do you want help carrying your bags?” Said Khalid.

"Well, I better follow as well." she reasoned, sticking with him just a little bit longer. "Speaking of dinner, when is that?" she asked, wondering what might possibly be served. Even the mention of a meal had suddenly reminded her that she was not only hungry, but thirsty as well.

"Six, if my memory serves correctly. But with the back-up of students here, probably seven."

Lechle soon realises how little he ate as well. As of yet he was running on a granola bar and a cup of yogurt.

It didn't take long for Lechle to realise how clingy the exchange students here really were. Fitting so, really. These students had top GPA's and were highly competitive, both in and off the books. The onluy place Lechle was competitive in was the black market, but they don't offer classes on those.

"Hey, Khalid. Why I oughta ask, if you're free later, I could use some help unpacking, actually. With my wrestling injury and all."
