A beginner's guide...

Welcome to the WorldVision Song Contest, based on the Eurovision Song Contest, aiming to provide and unite nations from different parts of the World through music. The WorldVision Song contest is an outlet to showcase the popular or native music of your nation. As with every contest, there are a few simple rules and regulations that you'll need to follow.

1. To start, you must sign up for the contest. Do so by using the form below and posting that you sign up in this thread. Make sure you sign up before the cutoff date. You won't be penalized if you sign up and don’t end up posting a song. You then post the song in the IC thread after a host vote (see previous contests to see what a "normal" post looks like).
2. At the end of the host bidding period, all nations which have signed up at that point may vote for the nation that will host the contest. Instructions will be posted by this account, and all host votes should be telegrammed to this account as well. The winning bidding nation will then create the IC thread.
3. The contest is based upon the Eurovision Song Contest: nations will "perform" their song. No real-life song can be entered into the WorldVision Song Contest; of course, the melody can be used (usually linked via YouTube). At least 80% of the song’s lyrics must be original, and translations are not allowed. Nations are free to choose to host a national final or internally select their representative. English is not compulsory, and other languages are encouraged.
4. Once the IC thread has been posted whenever the winning bidding nation chooses, nations will submit songs before the deadline. After the deadline nations may not edit or alter their song in any way, unless otherwise instructed by the Committee. Also, after the deadline and any interval act (wait for the signal from the host nation), nations vote, ranking their top ten songs in the following format: 12-10-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 in the IC thread. Nations may not vote for themselves. All nations that post a song in the IC thread must vote.

If you don't know how to sign up, use this form below; this should help. Not all of these fields have to be filled in, but it certainly helps.

Code: Select all
Nation Name: Your nation's name goes here.
Official Broadcaster: Your official broadcaster for WV goes here.
Song Title: The IC Song title goes here.
Artist(s) Name(s): The name of your act goes here.

Tune: The real-life tune you're basing your song on goes here.

1. A debutante nation cannot bid to host the WorldVision Song Contest. A nation must have entered and completed one edition in order to qualify to host a following edition. Furthermore, a nation that has put a host bid CANNOT vote for their own bid. This ensures a democratic and fair result.
2. At least 80% of the song’s lyrics must be original, and translations of real-life songs will result in disqualification. If you suspect another entry to be either wholly or mostly plagiarised, please telegram the WorldVision Committee with your concerns. The committee will then review the entry before making a judgment. If your entry is disqualified for whatever reason, you will not be reinstated even if you edit your entry.
3. All nations that post a song in the IC thread must vote. Failure to do so will result in a one-contest ban.
4. Each nation may enter ONE puppet nation (that is another nation controlled by the same player); the master nation must confirm their puppet on the thread. Should a nation is found to be in breach of the one-puppet nation rule, sanctions and a disqualification will be put in place.
5. If a nation enters a puppet nation, the maximum amount of points that can be awarded to each nation is up to five points thus ensuring a fair and more equal chance for all nations to succeed within the Contest. If a nation is found to have awarded a higher amount of points, the Committee will first allow said nation to alter their votes. If said nation fails to adhere to Committee reminders, the votes will be rendered void and will result in disqualification. A user controlling a master and puppet nation together can only award a third nation a total of 18 points.
6. Under no circumstances will bullying, offensive and/or intimidating language or provocations of any form be accepted within the Contest, within both IC and OOC threads. WorldVision promotes a peaceful and friendly environment. Failure to comply will result in disqualification. If at any point, you feel you are a victim or feel someone has been victimized by another nation, contact the Committee, or a member of the Committee immediately. The Committee will ensure anonymity/confidentiality at all times.
7. Only the current host of a Contest or the WorldVision Committee can reveal results during the voting process. Conspiring with fellow users to rig any of the votes is illegal and will result in sanctions.
8. Users may "reserve" slots in the running order of the contest, but if you do so and don't finish your entry by the deadline, you will receive a one-contest ban. An entry is accepted if it has a complete set of lyrics, regardless of whether stage directions have been finalized or not. You may also state that you are withdrawing from the contest on the OOC thread.
9. Users may not edit their entries or votes after the deadlines for any reason, including spelling or grammatical errors unless otherwise instructed to by the Committee. If you'd like to edit something in after the deadline, please ask the Committee for permission first.

So basically, be original, try to be fair, don't be a jerk, and have fun. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to TG the Committee - it helps if you add the Committee's individual member names (Achaean Republic, Ertzei Kishim, Mister X, Polkopia, Todlichebujoku) in the "To:" box along with "WorldVision Committee" for a faster response.

Even if you've missed the deadline or aren't participating, feel free to discuss the contest in this thread or post commentary in the IC. You'll find that people greatly appreciate some good commentary.

With all that said, welcome to WorldVision!

A reminder that this a ban on the user, not the nation: using a puppet to attempt to circumnavigate this will not be allowed.

STRIKE SYSTEM

As it was introduced prior to the start of '79, the same strike system for punishments will be in effect, where players breaking certain contest rules will receive strikes depending on the severity.

• One Strike: No immediate consequences;
• Two Strikes: One-contest ban;
• Three Strikes: Two-contest ban.
• Strikes expire after five editions; however, a strike expiring during a ban does not edit or shorten it.
• Bans stack; that is, a nation reaching three strikes within one edition is immediately banned for the following three editions.
• Bans erase strikes once they are completed.

Here are the following issues that can net you a strike:

One strike:
• Not voting in the contest (will also disqualify a contestant from competing)
• Changing votes without Worldvision Committee supervision.
• Posting halftime results when not the host or WVC & refusing to remove results (which also results in disqualification)
• Posting an incomplete entry.
• Not declaring a puppet.

Two strikes:
• Engaging in tactical voting.
• Intentionally refusing to vote.
• Attempts to evade a ban.
• Entering more than one puppet in the contest.

If you have any questions regarding the new strike system, please contact the Worldvision Committee and we can assist you.

Following Shireen's 7th place finish in Phoda, where she tied with Kalosia but won the tiebreaker by having two sets of 12 points compared to C-Gulls' 1 (as both countries received the same number of votes), ETV has announced that Elejamie will be taking part in WV80. After a small search, they revealed that Mason will represent the nation with his song "Racing For Your Love". Cerin Erali and Flynn Taggart will return as commentators.

Nation Name:Elejmaie
Official Broadcaster: ETV ONE
Song Title: Racing For Your Love
Artist(s) Name(s): Mason

Tune: The Weeknd - Blinding Lights (non-Vevo version)

Also pre-confirming Placely Placington (who I've yet to make I have now made) as a puppet.

EDIT: Sorry about all the edits, I'm not that indecisive, it's just the whole "did I finish joint 7th or just 8th" debate until I found out I won the tiebreaker. Plus I actually got around to making my puppet.

Welcome to Talvezout E Mouzeh: Operación Triunfo, live from Yaru-Bzhreiut. Five artists, 15 songs, 1 winner.

Following Talvezout's hosting of Worldvision 79 - and their subsequent 3rd placing, alongside universal lauds for their entire presentation - the Worldvision base in the archipelago nation was excited. Talvezout had reached the top 3 for the first time since Worldvision 46 - almost 40 editions ago. The initial wave of disappointment morphed into anticipation. Feelings of "Why didn't we win, we were so close" turned into "We got close, now let's do better". Thus, through popular demand, TRT has decided to revive Talvezout E Mouzeh: Operación Triunfo.

Last edition of Worldvision marked another Top-10 finish for Polkopia and the PNB opted to continue the tradition of using a National Final in order to determine Polkopia's entrant for the next edition of the contest. It should come as a surprise to no one that this National Final will once again take place in the form of the Landa vy Polkopiya, which has served as the National Final for Polkopia for decades and is one of Polkopia's longest-running TV shows. The contest dates back to 1972, where the winner of the competition received a cash price and was flown to Peeto in order to record more tracks with an established Polkopian record label. Of course, times in Polkopia are much different now, and apart from exposure on several media platforms, the winner of the Landa vy Polkopiya typically has the opportunity to represent Polkopia in the Worldvision Song Contest.

The lineup for this edition of the Landa vy Polkopiya has been revealed! As always, the PNB is calling on international juries to submit their votes before the conclusion of the semi-finals, and this result will be mixed with a televote in a 50/50 format in order to calculate the overall winner of the competition. The list of competing entries can be found below:

The broadcaster which brought home three wins for the nation in the space of the nine participated editions is back in charge of picking the Britonish Act for the upcoming 80th edition of the WorldVision Song Contest. The WorldVision Song Contest team are expected to heavily advertise the upcoming Britonish Artist for the WorldVision Song Contest due to the Contest's clash with hit BVC show Vha Mehlodhivestoile 2020 on the 14th March. As many nations that broadcast the National Final will ditch Vha Mehlodhivestoile's third Semi-Final for the WorldVision Song Contest, BITC will be hoping to do this across the board - conquering ABEN. It has been confirmed that the Britonish representative will sing at the Second Semi-Final of Vha Mehlodhivestoile 2020 on the 7th March 2020 as a part of the BVC-BITC deal.

The artist and song will be revealed soon.

Nation Name: Spiritual Republic of Caryton
Official Broadcaster: Trinity Broadcasting Network of Caryton
Song Title: Even Though You're Leaving
Artist(s) Name(s): Eleanor Strawson and Barry Polo, accompanied by the Georgine Gospel University Orchrestra (the latter does not need to be mentioned)

Tune: "Something To Believe In" - The Newsies

In a controversial act, the Spiritual Republic of Caryton has reserved to send something apart from gospel, yet with the modesty and class of the Carytonic people. A moralistic love song with the right amount of music theory to still retain the conservatism of the state's entries.
