Both chambers of the legislature of West Zilveren Berg have voted to officially remove the country's non-bloc status from the Basic Law of the State of West Zilveren Berg. As the upper house, the Senate of the State of West Zilveren Berg was the first to vote in favor of removing the non-bloc status from the Basic Law. Today, exactly a week later, the House of Representatives of the State of West Zilveren Berg has now made an identical vote. With both chambers of the legislature having now voted, the non-bloc status has officially been removed from the Basic Law, effective immediately. The vote has been in accordance with the outcome of a referendum on the non-bloc status, where most voters supported removing the non-bloc status. The referendum was not a consultative one, which meant that West Zilveren Berg was required to follow its' result.
The opposition in West Zilveren Berg took every step to protest the very idea of the referendum, as well as protest its' result and now the vote at the legislature to remove that non-bloc status. Against the opposition's best efforts, the vote still took place and the non-bloc status has been removed. Opposition parties are still rallying their supporters to pro-neutrality demonstrations to this day and many protesters remain on the streets, where they go out daily. Counter-protests are also being held, with other parties, NGOs and social movements, who do not associate themselves with the government and in fact disagree with it on many issues, are organizing demonstrations in support of the referendum results and calling on the other side to "respect democracy and respect the vote of their compatriots", as according to them elected officials are simply carrying out the will of the citizens, who elected them.
